Wenn Ludwig ins Manöver zieht
The Prussian Army comes to Bavaria for a military exercise. They show off and try to demonstrate superiority. Yet they don't stand a chance because they are not prepared to tackle Ludwig's nifty pranks. As a major maneuver is about to take place in Gamsting, Bavaria, a company of the royal regiment is billeted in the town. The rascal Ludwig Thoma is delighted to see his old friend Sepp Maier again during the maneuvers. Naturally, he puts him up at his house, but Sergeant Falkenberg, the village priest's wayward brother, is less welcome as a quartering guest. Aunt Frieda is not the only one who dislikes the rude lad; Ludwig also has a bone to pick with him. In Munich, meanwhile, they have come up with a special twist for the maneuver: a Potsdam regiment under the command of Colonel von Below is to line up against Bavaria's personal grenadiers. Whoever captures the opposing regiment's flag is the winner. Colonel von Below naturally puts all his ambition into demonstrating the superiority of Prussian strategy over Bavarian brawling. But it is not only the clever Ludwig, who is also waging his own petty war against Sergeant Falkenberg, who causes considerable surprises. —ARD
