Diana tries to nurse Steve back to health, but her mother Hippolyta insists on arresting him for entering a land prohibited to men. Diana defies her mother and leaves Themyscira, with Hippolyta deciding to disown the rebellious princess. Settling in the United States, Diana finds a friend and mentor in the archaeologist Julia Kapatelis. Julia's daughter Vanessa resents Diana, because her mother neglects her in favor of having quality time with Diana. In 2018, Vanessa steals an artifact from her latest employer and attempts to sell it to the villainous Doctor Poison. Diana, Steve and Julia try to stop the transaction and fight against Poison's private army. Julia is fatally shot in a crossfire, and Vanessa blames Diana for her mother's death before fleeing. At a later point, Poison transforms Vanessa into the powerful villainess Silver Swan. Diana intends to reverse Vanessa's transformation, but she needs to use healing equipment from Themyscira. She does not know the location of the island due to a memory block, but she finds clues in Vanessa's research notes about the hidden island. —Dimos I
