Shava Ni Girdhari Lal is a period romantic comedy which revolves around a golden hearted, Girdhari and his attempts to find true love.

Set against the backdrop of the Gokak Chaluvali (the language rights agitation in the 1980s in Karnataka), this movie tells the story of Akash and Geetha whose paths keep crossing as they bump into each other at different stages of their lives.

Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Sunil (Shashi Kapoor) are burglars who are assigned to kidnap the son of Seth Mathur (Shreeram Lagoo), Bittoo. They get enrolled in the school to get close to the kid. There Vijay meets Anju (Parveen Babi) and Sunil meets Shalu (Hema Malini). Unaware of their background, the girls fall in love. However as time comes close, the boys realise they cannot kidnap Bittoo due to their affection towards him. Sunil`s boss Uncle Jagdish (Kader Khan) loses hope on him and he himself comes up with a plan and abducts the boy. Whether or not the two are able to protect their friend from their uncle, forms the rest of the story.

Anoop and Minoo get married, but she remains childish even after moving to her in-law`s house. Her carefree behavior forms a rift between them that they may not overcome.
