Panipat is set in 1761, when the Maratha Empire had reached its zenith and their grip on Hindustan reigned supreme with no one to challenge them. Until an invader set his eyes on the throne of Hindustan. That`s when Sadashiv Rao Bhau (Arjun Kapoor), the Commander-in-Chief of the Maratha army led a northern expedition in order to repel the invading forces of Ahmad Shah Abdali (Sanjay Dutt), the king of Afghanistan. This action-drama entailing the events that led to the Third Battle of Panipat, stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. It is produced by Sunita Gowariker under their banner of AGPPL along with Rohit Shelatkar`s company Vision World and is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.

The story revolves around Bauua Singh, a vertically challenged man, who is full of charm and wit, with a pinch of arrogance. His life is shattered completely when the evil drug lord Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt) hangs his father to death. Vijay leaves for Bombay with his pregnant mother played by Zarina Wahab, and takes an oath that he will return to Mandwa someday and bring back the glory of his father`s name. In Bombay, 12 Year-old Vijay is taken under the wings of the city`s drug lord Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor). From here on, it is a journey of revenge where he makes and breaks many relationships only to get closer to his aim. Vijay finds support in his only friend Kaali (Priyanka Chopra), who stands by him at every moment of his life. Fifteen Years later, his hatred for Kancha takes him back to Mandwa. Agneepath is a remake of the Hindi film of the same name starring Amitabh Bachchan which fetched him a national award.
