Shambu is against going to Bombay as his own brother Raghuveer had gone there several years ago and died in a road accident. Shambu says that Bombay is a heartless city which will take Roop away from him. Roop gets very emotional and threatens to leave home, so Shamu agrees to go. Roop and his father immediately transfer to Bombay, where Roop goes to find work in a hotel owned by Ajay Narang (Naseeruddin Shah), where his friend Chandu also works as a waiter. Ajay dotes on his sister Reshma and her happiness means everything to him. Ajay had a partnership with Minister KK Singh (Anant Jog), but Ajay beat him up mercilessly when one day KK Singh put his evil eye on Reshma. Roop manages to enter Reshma's birthday party and starts singing. Ajay and Reshma are enthralled by his voice. Ajay's sister Reshma (Ramya Krishnan) falls in love with Roop. Reshma is a spoiled girl and Ajay sees through all of her wishes. Upon Reshma's recommendation, Ajay hires Roop to sing at his hotel. Roop is over the moon and indebted to Reshma, due to which he will be able to pay for Shambu's treatment. Roop meets Pooja (Pooja Bhatt) when she saves his life from a road accident at night, when she was going home from the hospital. Roop doesn't know her name or address. But Shambhu meets Pooja in the hospital, where she is a nurse, and immediately like her as his future daughter-in-law. Shambu decides to meet Pooja's maternal uncle (Avtar Gill), brother (Razak Khan) and paternal uncle (Amrit Patel) to ask for her hand for Roop. They all agree if Pooja consents to the marriage. Roop keeps running into Pooja in Bombay and even Pooja starts liking him. They both are shy to admit their feelings to each other, and Roop still doesn't know Pooja's name. Pooja realizes that Roop is Shambu's son, and that Shambu wants to marry her to Roop. The next day Roop also finds out that Pooja is the girl that Shambu wants him to marry. Meanwhile, Reshma becomes obsessed with Roop. When she sees that all the girls are flattered over Roop, she gets very jealous and asks him to sing only for her now from then on-wards. Roop realizes that Reshma is obsessed with him and decides to leave. Roop prefers to work for Ajay's rival, Patel (Shrivallabh Vyas), rather than take Reshma's offer. Ajay's obsession with keeping his sister happy at all costs comes into play and Patel is brutally beaten by him until he agrees to throw Roop out of his hotel. Turns out this is the 2nd time Reshma has been obsessed with someone. Ajay remembers the time many years ago when Reshma went through the same symptoms when she fell in love with someone. Shambu's situation gets worse when the tumor bursts after he eats betel leaf. Now, he must be operated upon, and he needs to arrange money for it within 24 hours. Desperately in need of money for his father's operation, Roop has no option but to work for Reshma and Ajay. Reshma slowly becomes creepily obsessed towards Roop, treating anyone that stands in the way of her love towards him. Ajay reveals to Roop that many years ago Reshma was happily married. The one day, she found that her husband had cheated on her, and she started crying. Ajay could not tolerate that, and he killed her husband by smashing his head into the wall. He warns Roop never to make Reshma cry. Shambunath's undergoes an operation, which goes well, but seeing Roop extremely unhappy with his new life, which saddens Shambu. To protect Pooja and his family, Roop decides it is best to break up with Pooja, despite her efforts to console him. Pooja tells Roop that he did the right thing to save his father. To help Roop get over her, she decides to marry colony boy Raja (Pankaj Berry) who is in love with Pooja. Shambu is disappointed with Roop and says that he was better off dead. Roop is shaken and decides to leave Reshma. He goes to Pooja's wedding and expresses his love for her. Pooja refuses to reconsider, but Raja comes forward and reunites the lovers, relinquishing his claim on Pooja. Roop later tries to leave Bombay himself, along with his father and Pooja, but his plans are interrupted when Reshma tries to commit suicide, causing Ajay to have an outburst of anger. Nevertheless, Pooja and Roop get married. Frustrated with such a turn of events, Reshma and her brother devise a plan to make their lives miserable. After tracking Roop, Shambunath, and Pooja down, Ajay puts Roop's father on gallows and a rope tied around his neck with Roop on his feet, leaves with Pooja, and asks Roop to save Pooja or his father. Although Roop refuses to leave his father in such a horrible situation, Roop's father kicks him, sacrificing himself so that he could save Pooja and his son could be happy. Roop sets out to save Pooja, which brings him to a party Ajay is throwing at his hotel. Roop crashes Ajay's party where Pooja is being held hostage. Ajay and Roop begin to fight and brawl, during which Reshma threatens to kill Pooja if Roop doesn't stop fighting with her brother. Ajay then tries to shoot Roop, but Pooja, who just sees him, pushes Roop out of the way and Reshma gets shot, getting killed. Ajay is left in a shocked and catatonic state, while Roop and Pooja escape. Roop and Pooja end up crying on a sidewalk, embracing each other bloodily and distressed.

Sharma (Anupam Kher), replace him with a lookalike Nathuram (also Anupam Kher), throw a scare and "force" the fake president to sell India. Don Quixote had a plastic surgeon create 5 duplicates, and Don puts them through a test and determines the one best suited for the job. He then kills the 4 excess duplicates and also the Doctor who created them. Belatedly, Don realizes that Nathuram stammers under stress. Since the Government of the country has resigned, and the country is waiting for fresh elections, the President is in charge of the country. SD Sharma implements President's rule in the country in light of the prevailing financial crisis and the threat of terrorism against the country. Don Quixote plans to incite riots all over the country at midnight. As Army controls internal riots, external enemies will push their terrorists into India, and during this chaos, Don will replace the President of India. Hero (Shah Rukh Khan) is new to Bombay and broke. Hero came to act in the movies and ended up on the streets with his dreams shattered. Miss India (Deepa Sahi) is busy living it up the night she meets Hero as this is her last night of freedom. They meet at Marine Drive and decide to spend the night entertaining each other in any way possible. Throughout the night Hero and Miss India run into Havaldar (Tiku Talsania). Miss India wants Hero to make her laugh, and they roam the streets of Bombay at night looking for fun. In exchange, Miss India feeds Hero. Together they encounter the diversity of India, a microcosm of different cultures (home grown and foreign influenced), music (classic or western), religions, economic status (rich and poor) and beliefs (Scientific, spiritual or downright superstitious), which comes together as an unfinished country known as India. Meanwhile, Don Quixote's son Prince (Javed Jaffrey) has set his eyes on Miss India, who shows no interest in him. Prince wants Miss India to go with him and presents her a necklace as a gift. Miss India rejects the gift and tells him that he cannot order her around. Prince considers her as his personal property. He represents the entitlement attitude of the privileged class in India. Hero says that everything Prince has belongs to his father and he has earned nothing himself. Prince threatens Hero to back off, but he says that the power of love is bigger than the power of weapons, and forces Prince to retreat. Hero and Miss India are imprisoned by Havaldar when their truck rams into a police paddy wagon. Prince asks Don to get Miss India released, but she refuses to leave without her friends. Havaldar is forced to let them go, as Miss India threatens to kill herself and that would lead to needless escalation. The night turns out to be an adventurous one for Hero and Miss India. Hero discovers that Miss India's father (Tinnu Anand) is a drunkard who wants her to enter prostitution, while Miss India discovers that Hero has a brain tumor and finds an X-ray in his bag which is proof of the same. Hero falls in love with Miss India. As they serenade each other, Prince finds and confronts Miss India. Prince attacks Hero, but he and Miss India manage to escape. Hero and Miss India gain access to a convention center after changing into some fancy clothes that they stole from a showroom. Unknown to them, this is where Don was implementing his plan to switch the President. The President arrives for inauguration and is engulfed in a bomb blast, which drops his glasses to the ground. Hero retrieves the glasses but finds that the man being rescued by the security forces (who also looked like the President) already had glasses. When they find out Quixote's plans, they decide to save the president. Don triggers the riots, but Prince goes to save Miss India. Don goes after Prince to protect him from the riots. Prince abducts Miss India from the streets and brings her to his palace. Hero follows her. Quixote is killed in some riots and Prince takes his throne. Prince decides to continue his father's plan. Hero reaches Prince, who had kept Miss India captive. After a brutal fight, Hero beats Prince, and rescues Miss India. Hero (disguised as Prince) and Miss India, manage to enter the auditorium where the auction is taking place. At the auditorium, Nathuram, as President, declares his intention to auction off the country to the highest bidder. Hero drives up the prices to the point of 100,000 Billion dollars. Prince, in his father's Don attires, suddenly makes an entry with his henchmen. Hero is caught and imprisoned with the real President SD Sharma. SD Sharma and Hero work together to escape the cell and re-enter the auditorium, where the auction has been reset. Prince buys the country for Rs 1 and drapes a flag around him. Hero, Miss India, and their friends successfully overpower the cronies. Some people previously rescued by Hero and Miss India kill the fake president, pushing a hose in his mouth, causing his stomach to inflate and explode. When Prince attacks Hero and Miss India, causing all three of them to smash the glass and fall out of the building, Hero and Miss India create a parachute from an Indian Flag, taken from Prince's body. During the jump, Prince falls to his death. Hero and Miss India land on the roof of a double-Decker bus, and Hero declares that he is glad to be alive. When Miss India reminds him that he has a brain tumor, Hero tells her that the X-ray she saw was taken a year and a half ago.

Read more →Roshni (Sridevi) is the only child of Sharda Chadda (Reema Lagoo). Her father, Prakash Chadda (Anupam Kher), left before she was born, and she has no knowledge of where he went. Roshni lives with Sharda and her mother (Kamini Kaushal). Roshni wants to know about her dad, but Sharda would always scold her when she asked about her father, and where he is, or what he looked like. Sharda refuses to answer any questions regarding Roshni's father. After Sharda learns she has cancer, she asks her family friend Ahuja (Anang Desai) to take Roshni to Mumbai, so that she learns to live without her and be independent. Roshni is introduced to Rahul Malhotra (Rahul Roy), and they share a mutual attraction. Rahul is a businessman and trades in export / import items. He frequently travels overseas as well. When Rahul learns that she is an aspiring singer, he assists in her career. Rahul gets her an audition with HMV, and as a result her first song is also recorded. Soon, Roshni becomes a major singing sensation. She has a devoted fan named Jagannath, alias Jaggu (Sanjay Dutt), who is a petty thief. Pakya (Laxmikant Berde) works with Jaggu. Jaggu has been following Roshni's career for 2 years now. Jaggu earns good money by selling Roshni's concert tickets in black and follows her all over the country. Sometimes, he even gets on stage to garland her with money. Jaggu is in love with Roshni, but she rejects him. Roshni tells Jaggu that she has a certain lifestyle, and he is only a petty thief. Jaggu promises to earn enough money to be able to afford all the luxuries that Roshni wants in life. Jaggu robs a bank and buys everything on the list (a mansion, an expensive car, lots of dresses and jewelry and so on). Jaggu is eventually arrested for his crimes by Inspector (Mushtaq Khan). But eventually, Jaggu escapes custody. Roshni's mother reveals on her deathbed that Roshni's father Prakash is alive. Prakash had come from Mauritius to do business in India. They met a club and soon got married. Prakash went to Delhi for some official work. He was forced to abandon his family over a government level criminal accusation. Prakash tried to contact Sharda but Roshni's grandmother's reluctance to allow him back home, thwarted all his attempts. She tells Roshni that that she is free to go find her father. Roshni decides to start in Mauritius. Since Rahul is also in Mauritius, Ahuja asks him to pick Roshni from the airport. Since things are too hot for Jaggu in Bombay, he travels to Hong Kong to tide some time. Jaggu is employed by Prakash, who now lives in Hong Kong. In Mauritius, Rahul and Roshni meet Prakash's brother (Mushtaq Khan), who hates Prakash. He says that Prakash's actions in India ruined the families reputation in Mauritus. When Roshni insists, he reveals that Prakash is in Hong Kong. Roshni calls the number in Hong Kong, but Prakash refuses to accept her as his daughter, even though he remembers Sharda. Roshni refuses to give up and decides to go to Hong Kong. Before the flight, Rahul hides 3 drug packets in Roshni's luggage, and his own ticket is booked in a different name. Rahul and Roshni go to Hong Kong to look for her father, Roshni is arrested for trafficking cocaine, and Rahul disappears. Inspector Phillip (Tom Alter) picks Roshni up from the baggage belt after her luggage is marked by sniffer dogs for drugs. Roshni is quickly found guilty and remanded to a prison where inmates are kept barefoot and in squalid conditions. The warden (Bob Christo) sexually abuses the female inmates assisted by female cop (Kunika). Roshni befriends fellow inmate Angela (Soni Razdan), who is on death row for drugs smuggling. Angela's brother Neel is in the male prison block. Angela bribes the guards to meet him from time to time. Jaggu sees Roshni's picture in the papers and Roshni asks for Jaggu's help in finding her father Prakash. Jaggu tells Prakash that her own daughter is in jail in Hong Kong. Prakash goes to visit Roshni in jail as her attorney. Prakash is really emotional, but doesn't divulge that he is her father. He tells Roshni to accept that she brought the drugs for personal use, and she would go to jail for a few years. As a smuggler, she will be put to death. Roshni refuses to accept a crime that she did not commit. Prakash gets Rahul's photo from a camera in Roshni's luggage. Inspector Phillip wants a bribe of $50,000 to arrest Rahul. Jaggu enters a street fight contest to earn the money to pay off Phillip. Phillip changes the drugs to talcum powder, and Prakash manages to get bail for Roshni at the next court hearing. Roshni starts loving Jaggu. However, a Hong Kong Officer Lee Ming suspects Phillip of foul play and starts investigating the case. Phillip is arrested for bribery and the court convicts Roshni of drug smuggling and sentences her to death. Back in prison, Angela is shot to death as per her sentence, along with her brother. The only way out now is for Roshni to escape prison. Prakash finds that 7 prisoners escaped in WW II from the prison where Roshni has been kept, by using a tunnel network underneath the jail. Jaggu gets arrested for vandalism and is sent to prison. He runs afoul of the jailer and the female cop, themselves lovers, who beat him in front of Roshni. Jaggu ends up in the medical ward. Prakash works to help them escape by arranging a fake passport for Roshni. Roshni bribes the female guard to let her visit Jaggu, but the guard takes the money and refuses to let Roshni go to Jaggu. A fight ensues between Roshni and the female guard, in which the latter is killed. The warden intervenes when Roshni reaches Jaggu and they try to escape the jail via the drain system under the prison. Jaggu attacks and kills the warden. They escape the jail and return to India with the help of tickets and passports arranged by Prakash. At the Hong Kong airport, Prakash is questioned by the police, and Roshni learns that he is her father, and that he had fled the country years earlier when he had been wrongfully accused of treason. Later at Rahul's house, Rahul admits that he had been dealing with drugs that resulted in Roshni's arrest. She slaps him for deceiving her and gets him arrested. With Prakash's blessings, Roshni and Jaggu get married.
