At the same time, mafia don, Irfan Khan intends to shift headquarters to Dubai as the prize on his head is Rs 50 lakh. As all international airports are under surveillance, he comes up with a complicated plan to dodge the police. He plans to fly from Hyderabad to Kathmandu along with the Home Minister, have the plane hijacked. The plan is supposed to ensure that he should get away with the freed passengers while the minister is detained by the hijackers. For achieving this, he plans to recruit four innocent young people with no police record. Ramu makes the decision for his friends too. Does Khan's plan succeed? Inspector Ashok Sharma is assigned to take over as Inspector In-Charge of a remote police station, which he does. Upon his arrival there, he comes to the rescue of a blind man and a widow, and has a fist fight with Nishikant Shah and his men. The next day, Shah finds out that the person his men fought with is no other than the new Inspector In-charge, and he goes to pay homage, but Ashok refuses. Anand and Usha are separated in love. Years later they meet and speak about how happy they are in their married lives. The reality is they both are hiding the truth from each other. Anand (Anil Kapoor) is a Hindu orphan living with a Muslim guardian, Abdul Rehman (Ashok Kumar), in the Northern-most part of India. Anand is a champion skier, and one day Usha (Padmini Kolhapure) watches him ski, and falls in love with him. When they are introduced, Anand too falls in love with Usha. When Usha's mom, Annapurnadevi (Sushma Seth) comes to know of this romance, she instructs Usha not to step out of the house without her permission, and forbids her to see Anand ever again. When Anand persists, Annapurna relents and tells them that she will arrange their marriage, but instead she forces Usha to marry the son of N.N. Shukla (Ramesh Deo). When Anand finds out he is devastated, and finds solace in the company of his boss's daughter, Shobha (Anita Raj). Niranjan Pratap Singh is the stepson of Zamindar and real son of Ranimaa Sunanda. He is also the sole heir to the property of the Zamindar, as his elder stepbrother, Govind is drug-induced to the point of senility. When Gauri opposes Niranjan's ruthlessness against fellow-villagers, the Zaminder, angered by her intrusion, complains to her dad, Vedji. The Zaminder's anger is subdued when he actually speaks to Gauri, and ends up admiring her and asking her hand in marriage for his son, Niranjan. But Sunanda will not hear of her son marrying a poor villager's daughter, and she convinces him that Gauri should get married to Govind. Although her father is opposed to his daughter marrying a senile man, Gauri accepts Govind, and marries him. She finds out that she and Govind have no status in the household, which is run on the whims and fancies of Sunanda, her maid, Chintamani, and Niranjan. Niranjan is misguided by a dancer, Mallika and Amirchand who are after his wealth. An idealistic young man fights against the exploitation of the poor by the rich. He had been at the receiving end of their exploitation when a book actually written by him was credited to a rich man. Anoop (Dharmendra) is a struggling writer. One day he meets with wealthy and beautiful Seema (Hema Malini) and both fall in love. When Seema's brother Rajan Choudhury (Pran) finds out, he is angered and forbids Seema to see Anoop again. On the other hand Anoop's sister, Rekha (Aruna Irani), and Rajan's brother-in-law Mahesh (Mehmood) have also fallen in love with each other. This angers Rajan even more and he turns Mahesh out of his house. Rajan finds out that Anoop has authored a book called "Naya Zamana", and decides to publish it and sell it under his name. Anoop and Seema find out when the book hits the stalls and is a big hit. Rajan is unapologetic. Rajan then tries to evict the poor people living in small tenements with Anoop and his mother (Lalita Pawar), but Anoop and Seema intervene, and as a result Rajan orders the tenements to be burnt secretly by his henchman Sitaram (Jankidas). Anoop is blamed for the destruction and arrested by the police. Seema's dad, Sachin Choudhury (Ashok Kumar) forbids Seema to see Anoop anymore as well as stay away from the poor people's lives.
