A blind woman is taken care by a wealthy nobleman after her fiancee is presumed to be dead. Things takes a turn when her former fiancee comes back to her, which puts her in a dilemma. Durga (Amisha Patel) is a beautiful blind woman with a talent for shaping pottery. She is poor, and lives with her widowed mother in a simple home. By chance Durga crosses paths with Babu Rohit (Arjun Rampal) who saves her life when she is about the fall over a cliff. The pair spend time together and fall in love. At one point Durga creates a clay bust of her Babu ("sir") but weeps because she cannot see it. Rohit tells her that he will find a way to help her see again. But before anything could happen between the two Dubai returned Rana, another man who wants to marry Durga, kills her mom and then Babu himself. A devastated Durga undergoes eye surgery through Swiss-based Dr. R.K. Prasad and regains her sight. Dr. Prasad takes her with him to live in Switzerland and this is where multi-millionaire Raj (Bobby Deol) enters her life and wants to marry her. Dr. Prasad persuades her to let go of Babu's memory and marry Raj, which she does. At their engagement party, Raj's friend, Rohit, who was missing in India, is found. His appearance disrupts Durga's life as she thinks that her Babu has returned back. Rohit however recognize her and convinces her that her "sir" where in Babu has returned. There she meets Raj, who falls in love with her and proposes marriage to her, through persistence and kindness, Durga finally accepts Raj's marriage proposal. Unknown to Durga that her lover, Babu is alive and is known as Rohit, who is also Raj's childhood friend. A young beautiful-looking woman sells liquor while her boyfriend is stuck in prison. Its a fun masala romp with generous helpings of the recommended masala allowance. There is feisty Hirni (Zarina Wahab) who wears backless cholis and sells liquor while her smoking hot boy-friend Jaamlia (Vinod Khanna) languishes in prison. Then there is the college-going Rekha (a very subdued Neetu Singh) whose attachment to Hamlet is exemplary -- she goes to bed with it. Her hair goes from shoulder length to waist length in the space of a few moments. Perhaps that is why a visiting drunkard -- Anand (Shashi Kapoor) -- falls for her and stalks her in a bordering-on-harassment song sequence. Mahendranath (Bharat Bhushan) is a rich and lonely old man with a smarmy new manager Dilip Singh (Prem Chopra). Mahendranath had a much younger brother Rajen (the annoying kid from Fakira) - a willful brat who left home one day, never to be heard of again. Instead of heaving a sigh of "good riddance", Mahendranath keeps hoping Rajen will return. Taking advantage of the old man's hopes, Dilip hires an unemployed youth (Raza Murad), to impersonate the lost-and-now-grown-up Rajen. Mahendranath happily hands over all his property to "Rajen" and is promptly murdered by Prem. "Rajen" himself is bumped off later.Things get more complicated with new twists and thrills at every turn. Someone is sending Dilip threatening letters about Mahendranath's murder. Jaamlia is fighting off goons who land like flies in Shaitan Chowki to evict the residents. Anand makes a pact with Dilip to get Shaitan Chowki vacated. But is he tricking the residents or Dilip? While all this is happening, Rekha is mysteriously absent from the scene. After years of absence, wealthy Mahendra Nath still believes that his rebellious younger brother Rajen will return home one day. In the meantime, knowing Mahendra's weakness, plotting new manager Dilip has hatched a plan to get his hands on Nath's riches by enlisting the help of an impostor to pose as repentant Rajen. However, as greed and murderous intent take over, innocents suffer, and someone threatens to expose Dilip and his dirty secret. Who is the writer of the threatening letters? Jamunadas is bent upon winning this election at any cost and accordingly he sends a group of social workers to mingle with the villagers, gain their sympathy and support, and hence elect him. The social workers, Vijay Sharma, Rekha, Raju Ustad, Bhalua, and Kalua arrive there and go to work immediately with the villagers. They take up an ambitious project of diverting water to this parched region, and do succeed. A thrilled Jamunadas even visits all the villagers in his bare feet and donates money for the villagers' benefit.
