Prajapati sees his orderly life unravel after helping a young couple evade a powerful politician, triggering a cascade of mistaken identities, public scandals, and increasingly absurd suspicions that threaten his marriage to Aparna. Prajapati Pandey agrees to help Chanchal Kumari and Sunny conceal their relationship from Sunny's influential father, setting off a chain of deceptions that pulls him away from his normal life with Aparna Trivedi Pandey. Each attempt to protect the couple creates fresh misunderstandings, from hotel arrests and false romantic appearances to rumors that spread faster than anyone can contain. Nilofer Khan becomes entangled in the confusion, while competing assumptions about loyalty, infidelity, and hidden relationships spiral across multiple families and political circles. As pressure mounts from every direction, Prajapati struggles to keep the situation from collapsing completely. Prajapati Pandey (Ayushmann Khurrana), known as Praja, works as a forest department officer and lives in Prayagraj with his wife, journalist Aparna Trivedi Pandey (Wamiqa Gabbi). Their routine life is disrupted when Aparna publishes a report revealing that Sunny, the son of politician Gajraj Tiwari (Tigmanshu Dhulia), is involved in a relationship with a Muslim woman. Photographs showing Sunny with a woman wearing a hijab trigger controversy in Benaras, prompting both Gajraj and Aparna to begin searching for the woman's identity. Unbeknownst to Aparna, the woman is actually Chanchal Kumari (Sara Ali Khan), an acquaintance of Praja's from Benaras who wore the hijab to conceal herself from Gajraj's associates. Chanchal is romantically involved with Sunny, also known as Sudanshu Tiwari (Vishal Vasistha), and the couple intends to leave for Canada together. After realizing that Aparna's report intensified their problems, Praja agrees to help them avoid Gajraj's interference. To divert suspicion away from Sunny and Chanchal, Praja pretends to be Chanchal's boyfriend. He tells Aparna that he is traveling to Kanpur for official work, then accompanies Chanchal through various public locations in Benaras. Gajraj's associates photograph the pair together, but remain unconvinced that their relationship is genuine and continue monitoring them. Seeking a more convincing display, Chanchal insists that Praja check into a budget hotel with her while posing as her romantic partner. Their plan backfires when local police, led by Inspector Dharamveer Singh (Vijay Raaz), raid the hotel and arrest numerous guests who had registered under false identities. Praja is taken into custody during the operation. From detention, Praja contacts Nilofer Khan (Rakul Preet Singh), a fellow forest department employee and a friend of Aparna's, asking her to secure his release. Nilofer travels to help him and succeeds in arranging his bail. However, she makes it clear that she intends to inform Aparna about what appears to be evidence of infidelity. Praja urgently tries to explain the circumstances to Nilofer and follows her in an effort to tell his side of the story. During this pursuit, Aparna, who is in Benaras investigating leads connected to Sunny's mysterious companion, sees Praja and Nilofer together. Combined with the rumors and confusion already surrounding him, the sight convinces her that her husband is having an affair. Back in Prayagraj, Praja continues balancing the fallout from the deception while carrying out his professional responsibilities. He receives an assignment requiring him and his team, including forest officer Mahesh, to capture a rogue wolf in the forests near Benaras. Nilofer accompanies him as part of the operation. At the same time, Praja remains committed to helping Chanchal and Sunny complete their plan. To further mislead Gajraj's network, he makes another public appearance with Chanchal. During a family wedding gathering attended by her relatives, Praja publicly announces an engagement between himself and Chanchal. The declaration is welcomed enthusiastically by members of her family, who believe the relationship is genuine. News of the supposed engagement quickly reaches Sunny. Unable to understand why Chanchal would suddenly agree to marry another man, he begins questioning her loyalty and motives. Acting on his suspicions, Sunny abducts Praja and interrogates him about the situation. During the encounter, circumstances place the two men in a compromising position that is discovered by Gajraj's associates, including Mahinder (Durgesh Kumar). The observers misinterpret what they see and conclude that Praja and Sunny are romantically involved with each other. They relay this information to Gajraj, who becomes alarmed by the potential political consequences if such rumors were to spread publicly. As confusion deepens, Gajraj develops another incorrect theory and comes to believe that Praja himself was the unidentified hijab-wearing woman linked to the original scandal. The following day, Gajraj escalates matters by holding Praja, Chanchal, Aparna, and Nilofer captive at his farmhouse while attempting to locate Sunny. Unknown to him, Sunny is already at the airport waiting for Chanchal so they can leave together as originally planned. While being held at the property, Praja notices that the farmhouse borders a forested area. Drawing upon his experience as a forest officer, he begins producing loud mating calls intended to attract the rogue wolf that his department has been tracking. The animal unexpectedly appears near the farmhouse, followed closely by Praja's team of wildlife handlers who have been searching for it. The arrival of the wolf and the forest department personnel throws the farmhouse into chaos. Amid the confusion, Praja manages to escape and takes Chanchal with him. They travel to the airport, where Sunny is waiting. Gajraj arrives in an attempt to stop his son from leaving, but Praja confronts him and warns that further interference could damage his public reputation. Faced with the possibility of greater scandal, Gajraj abandons his efforts to separate the couple. Chanchal and Sunny are reunited and able to proceed with their plans. Chanchal thanks Praja for helping restore her relationship with Sunny, while Aparna realizes that the apparent evidence against her husband resulted from a chain of misunderstandings and deceptions. She apologizes for accusing him of adultery, bringing an end to the confusion that began when Praja agreed to pose as Chanchal's boyfriend.
