Wayward, brash, and disobedient Mohan (Shammi Kapoor) is sent by his angry dad Diwan Badriprasad (Ulhas) to a retired army captain Dayaram (Om Prakash) to learn some discipline and respect. But Mohan asks his friend Anokhe (Mehmood) to switch places with him, and Anokhe agrees to do so. Mohan meets with Meena (Mala Sinha), who lives with her blind dad (Manmohan Krishan). Anokhe is welcomed as Mohan by Captain Dayaram and his daughter Malti (Shubha Khote) in their household. Eventually both Malti and Anokhe fall in love. Things start to get even more muddled when Captain Dayaram finds out that Anokhe is married to another woman, and that Anokhe drives a rickshaw. Bale Pandiya (Sivaji Ganesan) is a young man who leads a troubled life. He is continuously being chased by Marudhu (also Sivaji Ganesan) - a look-alike of him and Marudhu's boss Kabali (M. R. Radha), who would be given a lot of money if they killed Pandiya. While being chased by them once, he gets into a runaway car being driven by an insane young girl(Vasanthi). The car crashes, but the girl gets cured from her insanity. Her father allows Pandiya, who is homeless, to stay with them. Parallelly, Pandiya falls for Geetha (Devika) and her father Amritha Lingam (also M. R. Radha) accepts the romance. But Marudhu and Kabali's pursuit for Pandiya still continues, and they successfully toss him into the sea. What happens to next forms the remaining story.

Gaali Medula is a tear-jerking tale of a young man Krishna on the lookout for his father. Ranganatham leaves his only son Krishna in the custody of Panakalu before he leaves for his medical treatment. Greedy Panakalu leaves the village with the money given by Krishna's father and buys a piece of land in town. He educates his son Mohan and makes Krishna look after the land. Panakalu also takes money from Naganna as loan, in exchange to make Lakshmi his daughter-in-law. Lakshmi who is in love with Krishna is unaware that she has to marry Mohan. Panakalu accuses Krishna of ruining the marriage plans of Lakshmi and Mohan, which makes Krishna leave the house. Meanwhile, the ambitious Mohan on the pretext of becoming a millionaire meets Nimmi who is the landlord's daughter and marries her. This makes Lakshmi leave the house in search of Krishna. Will the two reunite? And will Krishna be able to meet his father again?
