Enraged that her father once again chose his career over her, Iris stops speaking to him and his wife Mary files for divorce. By 2017, He is facing financial ruin and is estranged from his ex-wife Mary (Dianne Wiest) and daughter Iris (Alison Eastwood), for always putting work before family. He's still on friendly terms with his granddaughter Ginny (Taissa Farmiga) and attends her wedding rehearsal. Mary is super angry with Earl for missing Iris's wedding in 2005 and now is angry as she thinks Earl wants to mooch off Ginny as he has nowhere else to go. Earl has not told his family that the only reason he's there is because his flower farming business has gone bankrupt, and his home has just been foreclosed on by the bank. Earl is desperate for money as he had promised to pay Ginny's wedding. While there, he is spotted by a member of a drug cartel (who is the boyfriend of one of Ginny's bridesmaids) who had been tipped off by one of Earl's former employees as to his financial problems. Earl accepts the gangster's offer and becomes a "mule", transporting cocaine through Illinois for the cartel. Facing little suspicion due to his age, race, spotless criminal history, and strict adherence to driving laws, Earl is soon trusted with huge amounts of drugs and paid large amounts of cash. Over time, Earl gets more involved with the cartel and becomes one of their best mules. With the money he obtains from drug-running, he buys a new truck, settles his financial problems, pays for renovations of the local VFW Post that had been damaged in a fire, and his granddaughter's wedding and education. He becomes friendly with the cartel members, who call him Tata ("grandfather"). There are only 2 rules, don't look at the cargo and always answer the phone. Meanwhile, Special Agent Colin Bates moves to the Chicago DEA office and assigned Agent Trevino as his partner. They are tasked with closing in on the cartel's deliveries to Chicago. With details from an informant, a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) task force made of Agent Colin Bates (Bradley Cooper), his partner Agent Trevino (Michael Pena) and their boss (Lawrence Fishburne), is narrowing in on the cartel's deliveries to Chicago. They start looking for the cartel's most profitable driver, Tata ("grandfather") As Earl gets more successful, cartel boss Laton assigns him bigger loads and assigns Gustavo to handle Earl. Gustavo doesn't like Earl as he has no family ties, doesn't listen to him, does whatever he wants. But Latin values Earl and asks Gustavo to put up with him. Unknown to all a snitch has given Earle's name to the DEA agents as their top mule. Earl keeps making bigger drops and earns a meeting with Laton at his home in Mexico. Earl mistakenly believes that the cartel considers him their friend. At a late-night party Earl suggests to Gustavo that Laton doesn't really care for him. Tensions within the cartel erupt when Gustavo (Clifton Collins Jr.), a power-hungry cartel lieutenant, assassinates cartel boss Laton (Andy García), and subsequently demands Earl be kept under tighter control. Earl follows instructions given to him and the snitch gives his exact route and stopping points to the DEA agents, but they simply don't suspect an old man like Earl to be the mule and keep on arresting the wrong people. In the middle of a $12 million cocaine shipment, Earl winds up in a diner with Bates. Neither man recognizes the other, and the elderly Earl gives Bates advice to try and mend fences with his wife and not make the mistakes Earl has made. Earl then leaves to conclude the delivery of the shipment but then gets a call from Ginny, who informs him that Mary is gravely ill. Earl initially tells Ginny there's nothing he can do until she rebukes him for his perceived lack of care. Earl relents and disobeys Gustavo, making peace with Mary and staying with her in her final moments. Mary dies peacefully days later. After attending the funeral and finally reconciling with Iris and the rest of his family, Earl resumes the delivery as the DEA and the cartel close in on him. The cartel's enforcers catch him and upon discovering that he disobeyed them to care for his ex-wife, they call Gustavo to request leniency. Gustavo agrees to this request and allows Earl to continue. Earl continues driving toward the drop point, but the DEA agents set up a roadblock and arrest him; Bates has a pleasant aside with Earl before sending him away. In court, Earl's lawyer starts to give an impassioned plea, asking for mercy for Earl due to his age and military service. However, a clearly guilt-ridden Earl interrupts her to plead guilty to all charges and is promptly sent to federal prison. His family lend him their support and promise to visit him. In prison, he returns to horticulture.

Carl Allen`s monotonous life takes a turn when he enrolls for a self-help program that requires him to say yes to everything, whether he means it or not. While this opens doors of opportunities for him, the weight of his decisions begins to grow weary.

The film opens as a well dressed, barrel chested man stalks the late-night passengers of a subway train. He assaults and kills several people with a meat hammer, and a butchers hook. He dispatches his prey wordlessly, and with an uncannily unnatural strength. He wears a ring on his finger, adorned with eight stars. We are then introduced to Leon, a vegan photographer who heads into the city's subway system at night to take photographs. He is criticized constantly by other photographers for fleeing danger before shooting a full reel. One night, in a decision to break this trend, he saves a woman from a gang that is abusing her. The next day, he discovers this girl has gone missing. Leon is intrigued by the mystery, and begins to investigate newsreels about similar disappearances. His investigation leads him to a butcher named Mahogany, who he suspects has been killing subway passengers for as long as a hundred years. Leon attempts to turn some of the photos he has taken of Mahogany in to the police, but they refuse to believe him, and instead cast suspicion on his own motives in photographing the victims. Leon's involvement quickly turns into a dark obsession, upsetting his waitress girlfriend Maya, who is as disbelieving of his story as the police chief. Leon takes matters into his own hands, entering the subway train at midnight, only to witness a shocking bloodbath, as the butcher kills several passengers, then hangs them on meat hooks. Passing out on the subway floor, he awakes the next morning in a slaughterhouse with strange markings carved into his chest. A concerned Maya and her friend Jurgis, a short-order cook, begin to examine the photos Leon has been taking of Mahogany, leading them to the killer's apartment. After breaking and entering the butcher's home, Jurgis is captured, and brutally killed. Maya goes to the police, But finds that they are as unwilling to consider her story, as they were of Leon's. It is at this point that we begin to discover that the police may be involved in the cover-up of Mahogany's crimes. A police official directs the misguided Maya to a trip on the midnight train. Leon, unaware of Maya's involvement, finally decides to put an end to the butcher's crimes, and heads to the hidden subway entrance in the slaughterhouse, arming himself with the a butcher's apron, and several slaughterhouse knives. Leon enters the train as Mahogany has completed his nightly massacre, and has cornered a helpless Maya. Leon attacks the murderer with a knife, beginning a climactic battle between the photographer and the superhuman butcher. They fight in between the swinging human meat, Leon's knives against Mahogany's meat hammer, and human body parts are ripped, thrown, and used as weapons in the shower of epic gore. Finally, Mahogany is thrown out of the train by Leon, but not long before it hits its final stop. The train has entered an underground cavern, filled with skulls and decomposing bodies. Mahogany, in a battered and bleeding state, returns, barely alive, from beneath the train, and engages in a death struggle with Leon, who finishes the job at last by impaling the psychotic butcher's skull on a blade. Mahogany grins in his dying throes, pronouncing the single word "Welcome!" With the butcher's death, the conductor of the train enters the car, advising Leon and Maya to "Please step away from the meat." With these words, the true purpose of the underground station is revealed, as horrible reptilian creatures enter the car, consuming the meat to which they have been delivered. The conductor explains to Leon that the creatures have always existed below the city, and that the butcher's job was to keep them satisfied by feeding them every night. The conductor then forces Leon to watch as he kills Maya with one of the butcher's knives. When he is done, he picks up Leon, and with the same supernatural strength as the deceased butcher, rips out Leon's tongue, throwing him to the ground. He tells Leon that, having killed the butcher, he must take his place. In the final scene, the police chief hands the train schedule to the new butcher, who wears a ring with eight stars. The killer walks onto the midnight train, and turns his head to reveal that he is Leon, ready to go on his nightly slaughter.

Tripp (Matthew McConaughey), a 35-year-old man, is still living with his parents Al (Terry Bradshaw) and Sue (Kathy Bates) in Baltimore. Tripp's best friends Demo (Bradley Cooper) and Ace (Justin Bartha) are also still living in their parents' homes and seem proud of it. Tripp has a number of meaningless romances; when he gets sick of the women, he scares them off by inviting them to "his place," and after seeing he lives at his parent's home, they promptly dump him, leaving him free again. Tripp has a great life with a roof over his head and all the chores performed by his mother, from making his bed to vacuuming his room, and ironing his clothes. Tripp even gets breakfast served to him every day by his mother. Ace says that Tripp is afraid of real love. Al and Sue are fascinated when their friends, whose adult son recently moved away from home, reveal that they hired an expert to get their son to move out. Al and Sue believe that they were good parents and now they are supposed to be done. The expert is Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker), who believes that men continue to live at home because they have low self-esteem. She calls it the "Failure to Launch". Her approach is to establish a relationship with the man to build his confidence (by helping her through an emotional crisis) and transfer his attachment from his parents to her. She asks Al and Sue to make things difficult for Tripp at home by assigning him more chores and by refusing to do his work around the house. She also promises them that she never sleeps with her clients, and she needs to keep Tripp "motivated". Sue starts off by getting Tripp to buy groceries, doing laundry and cleaning his own bathroom. Al and Sue arrange for Paula and Tripp to run into each other, when they go furniture shopping. Paula is drop dead gorgeous and Tripp instantly notices her as she walks into the store. Paula says that she comes to the store daily for 20 minutes to relax on the comfort chairs and has an "arrangement" with the guards who allow her in exchange for coffee. Paula lives with her roommate Kit. A running theme in the movie is a mockingbird outside of Kit's home that sings at all times of the day, driving Kit crazy. Nothing she tries is able to get rid of the mockingbird. Paula and Tripp have their first date as lunch on a sailboat. But turns out Tripp didn't own the boat himself and is only a broker. The owner of the boat turns up unexpectedly and interrupts their date. Paula helps Tripp by pretending to be a buyer. However, upon meeting Tripp, she finds that he does not fit any of her previous profiles, having normal social skills and no problems with self-esteem. He also has a good job which he enjoys. Paula creates an emotionally vulnerable situation for herself, when she pretends her dog died and has Tripp to be present to support her. Thats part of her "process". Tripp responds by taking her to paintball with Demo and Ace. Paula brings Kit along with her. The guys are impressed with Paula when she helps them win a paintball match with a team that came in third at the national paintball tournament. Ace has a crush on Kit (Zooey Deschanel). But Kit has difficulty in choosing between Ace (a software writer) and Demo (sexy, but just got fired from Kinko's). Paula gets "the nod" from Tripp's friends and the next day she even allows Tripp to teach her sailing. Tripp is cruising through her steps. Tripp confides in Paula that he would like to own an old wooden boat, which would make him feel like he is part of something. Paula ends up kissing Tripp passionately. Kit points out to Paula that she is having fun with Tripp. Paula believes that she has Tripp and that he is good to move out, while Tripp tells his friends that he is ready to break up with Paula. After an awkward encounter with his parents (when Tripp takes Paula home), Paula thwarts his attempt to dump her (Sue tells Paula secretly that the only reason Tripp brings girls over to their house is because he is getting ready to dump them) and responds by having sex with him, all the while developing real feelings for him. She and Tripp find themselves sailing unfamiliar waters and confide in their friends. Tripp says that the sex was fantastic. While Paula says that the rules are hers and she can change them if she wants. Kit even goes to the extent to trying to buy a shotgun to kill the mockingbird. The gun salesman Jim (Rob Corddry) refuses to sell Kit the gun, as mockingbirds are protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty act and killing one is a crime. Paula's vocation exasperates her roommate Kit, who believes that Paula took the job because she once had her heart broken by a man who lived with his parents. Ace finds Paula working another "client" at a cafe and blackmails her to set him up with Kit. although Kit is more attracted to Demo, she and Ace wind up falling in love. Paula, on the other hand, is shocked when she finds out (when Ace and Demo tell him as they know what she is doing and support her overall goal) why Tripp lives at home: his life collapsed when his fiance suddenly died, and his family has been his source of solace ever since. Demo in turn reveals all to Tripp that Paula is a professional interventionist, but he also says that Paula is the right girl for him, and he should sort things out with her. Tripp angrily confronts his parents and breaks up with Paula. Wracked with guilt, Paula refunds Al's and Sue's money. After an awkward confrontation, Tripp manages to forgive his parents, but he cannot forgive Paula for manipulating him. Tripp's parents and friends devise a plan to reconcile the two lovers. Paula is planning to move to Colorado and Tripp is moping around at the docks for 2 weeks, having moved out of his parent's house. They tie up and gag Tripp and lock him and Paula together in a room. Paula pours her heart out to him, and he finally forgives her. The film ends with Al and Sue in their empty nest, happily singing "Hit the Road, Tripp," fading into the closing credits playing the Ray Charles song, and Tripp sailing away with Paula on his newly purchased boat.

John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) are divorce mediators in Washington D.C. The two friends frequently "crash" wedding parties to meet women, working from a set of rules taught to them by a past Crasher, Chazz Reinhold. The duo always has cover stories for inquisitive guests and inevitably become the hit of every reception. Their goals are to enjoy the free food and drinks and ultimately to charm their way into bed with women from the wedding for a one-night stand. After a sequence of successful crashes, Jeremy takes John to a wedding for the daughter of the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, William Cleary (Christopher Walken). Once inside, the pair set their sights on Cleary's other daughters, Gloria (Isla Fisher) and Claire (Rachel McAdams). Jeremy ends up having sex with Gloria on a nearby beach while the reception is taking place. Gloria is possessive and quickly becomes obsessed with Jeremy. She claims to have been a virgin until the encounter, which shocks Jeremy, and he tries to get John to bail on the reception with him. Meanwhile, John is attempting to court Claire, the maid of honor, but he is interrupted by her hotheaded boyfriend, Sack Lodge (Bradley Cooper), who later turns out to want to date Claire only because of William's political power and is shown to openly mock and cheat on her behind her back. Later, John convinces Jeremy to accept the family's invitation to an extended weekend party at their family compound. Once there, Jeremy, John, and other members of the family play a game of touch football, which ends with Jeremy being badly hurt by an over-aggressive Sack. Gloria tends to him, while trying to engage him in sexual intercourse at the same time. At dinner later that evening, Gloria gives Jeremy a hand job under the dinner table, while John spikes Sack's wine with eye-drops. Sack becomes sick, which lets John further connect with Claire, and they agree to go for a walk together following dinner. John goes to his room to change his shoes, but William's wife, Kathleen (Jane Seymour), makes John fondle her surgically enhanced breasts, then rebuffs his actions, much to John's confusion. Later that night, Gloria ties up Jeremy and proceeds to sexually assault him, thinking she is being "adventurous" and is fulfilling fantasies. That same night, Gloria's gay brother, Todd (Keir O'Donnell), paints a provocative image of Jeremy and tries to seduce him, but is interrupted by his father. The next morning, Jeremy asks John if they can go home, but John convinces him to stay, which helps Jeremy realize that John is falling for Claire. That afternoon, the family (minus Sack) go sailing, where John and Claire continue to bond. Following the sailing trip, the family (with Sack now joining them) go on a hunting trip, where Sack intentionally shoots Jeremy in the buttocks (although it seems as if he was trying to shoot John, who fell down at the force of his gunfire at that point). After the hunting trip, John and Claire go on a bike ride through the country, and they end up at a secluded beach. Claire finally admits she isn't sure how she feels about Sack, and ends up kissing John passionately. Meanwhile, Gloria is tending to Jeremy's wounds, and reveals to Jeremy that she was not a virgin when they met, and that she only said that because that's what she thought he would like to hear. Jeremy realizes that he may be in love with Gloria. Later that day while eating lunch, Sack announces his engagement to Claire, leaving Claire at a loss for words, as she had not actually been proposed to. Outside, John is about to convince Claire to be with him, when they are interrupted by Jeremy being chased out of the house. Sack emerges and forces John and Jeremy to tell the truth about who they really are, as he had them privately investigated. John reluctantly reveals their true identities, and William kicks them out. While leaving, Todd wants his portrait back, but Jeremy tells him that he's keeping it as a gift; this gives Todd some relief knowing that someone took him seriously as an artist. Jeremy and Gloria briefly confess their love to each other. John and Jeremy return to their normal lives. During that time, Jeremy is trying to keep his relationship with Gloria a secret when John comes in to talk to him. He's found a new way to try and reconcile with Claire by trying to be a waiter at her engagement party. Jeremy tries to convince him that his attempts to reconcile with her were unsuccessful and he needs to let it go by coming to term that Claire doesn't want anything to do with him. While pretending to be a waiter, he is caught and brutally beaten by Sack (who has his friends hold John while he beats him, so he can't fight back). Once he recovers, he goes to search for Jeremy (who was supposed to have helped him), but instead finds him still at his house and having sex with Gloria. When John learns the truth, he's very upset by it and it causes a rift between him and Jeremy. John crashes several more weddings alone, but behaves erratically due to his state of depression, and soon becomes nihilistic and suicidal. Meanwhile, Jeremy continues his relationship with Gloria, culminating in an accepted marriage proposal, and Claire begins to doubt her relationship with Sack. Jeremy attempts to reconcile with John, asking him to be his best man, but John refuses. John then goes to meet their mentor, Chazz Reinhold (an uncredited Will Ferrell), to reaffirm Jeremy's apparent stupidity in getting engaged. During the visit, Chaz talks him into crashing a funeral instead of going to Jeremy's wedding, as Chaz believes that grief is the best aphrodisiac. While there, John takes notice of a woman who is truly grieving for her husband because she loved him. He reconsiders his stance on love and marriage and rushes to Jeremy's wedding. John joins the wedding mid-ceremony to Jeremy's delight, but soon disrupts it by attempting to speak to Claire. Claire, in tears, leaves the altar, but John quickly professes his love to her and his feelings of regret of his past behavior towards women. Sack interrupts, asking Claire to return to the altar so the wedding can be finished. Claire finally tells Sack that she can't marry him. He turns to William for help, but instead William states his full support of his daughter's decision to reject Sack, after he admits he put up with him because he thought Claire was happy. Clearly angry, Sack begins aggressively demanding Claire to return to the altar. John states that everyone is getting a good preview of what it would be like to be married to Sack (who he refers to as Ike Turner, referencing his supposed abuse of his ex-wife Tina). Sack loses control of himself completely and rushes at John, but Jeremy intervenes and knocks him out. The film ends with Jeremy getting married to Gloria, John uniting with Claire, and the two couples driving away talking about crashing another wedding together.
