Brave Indian policeman Raj beats up, then arrests Muslim terrorist Khan. Then Balbir clarifies to Ajit what the motive was behind his assassination attempts on the Home Minister, and Ajit decides to join forces with Balbir to expose the Home Minister. Then terrorist Ghafoor Changezi announces that no worshipper will be permitted to visit the Holy Shrine of Mata Sheravali during the Navratri Fest, and the Home Minister accepts the challenge, to make himself even more popular. Villagers are shocked by the sudden death of Mary. Father Prem Fernandes gets legal permission to conduct a postmortem on Mary's body by removing it from her grave. Look-alike twins Prem and Arun Kumar live a middle-class lifestyle. When they grow up, Prem decides to be celibate, becomes a Catholic Priest, and re-locates to a small village, while Arun becomes a Police Officer in the region. Years later Prem is a well-respected Priest, while Arun is the Superintendent of Police. One day Prem visits Arun with regard to the incident of a young woman named Mary who had reportedly killed herself. He asks Arun to have the body exhumed in order to perform a postmortem. Arun suspends the Police Inspector who had Mary's body buried without following proper procedure, and goes to the graveyard to have the body prepared for a postmortem. When the coffin is dug up and opened Arun gets a shock when he finds that the dead person in it is Prem. He immediately begins an investigation (Tahqiqaat) to find out who killed Prem, and what happened to Mary's body. As the investigation continues, hampered by lies and deceptions by the village folks, he will find out that Prem appeared to have been leading a double life, and may have responsible for Mary's pregnancy and subsequent suicide.

Ajay Khanna works as a Photographer and Jounralist earning Rs.850/- per month. He meets with wealthy Preeti B. Pratap, rescues her from goons, they become friendly and fall in love with each other. Then Ajay is promoted as the Editor of a sports magazine with a salary of Rs.4000/, much to the delight of Ajay and Preeti, however, this does not last long when Ajay is told that Bhanu Pratap had arranged this promotion. While Preeti is quite content with this arrangement, Ajay is not, arguments ensue, and a pregnant Preeti moves back into her parent's home. Bhanu is determined to keep Ajay away from Preeti, so much so that when Preeti gives birth to a boy, he decides to turn the child over to Ajay with strict instructions not to interfere in Preeti's life anymore. Two siblings attempt to avenge the death of their father and elder sister. But the sister believes in the law while the brother believes in administering justice himself. Jan Nissar Akhtar Khan works as a Forest Officer, and lives with his wife Zakhiya. One day while on duty he comes across some poachers who were cutting sandal wood trees illegally. When challenged, they retaliate, a struggle ensues, and one of them, Ram Gupta, gets killed. Khan is charged with killing him, tried in Court, and sentenced to several years in prison. His shocked and devastated wife kills herself. Years later, an angry and embittered Khan is released from prison. One day he comes across another young man, Vijay Singh, and finds out that he is struggling with taking vengeance against two men who had traumatized and killed some of his family members, and decides to help him. It is then Khan finds out that Gupta is still alive and decides to kill him, quite dramatically in the same courtroom where he was convicted for his murder. Watch how this action will effect Khan's future, and Vijay's plan for avenging his family.

Lakshmi (Reena Roy) and Vijay Singh (Raj Babbar) fall in love, but Vijay's father Thakur (Om Shivpuri) at first is not ready to wed his son with a petty postmaster's daughter but then agrees. Vijay and Lakshmi both get married. But soon Vijay has to go London for further studies. Lakshmi gives birth to a boy, on Vijay's return his father has a party, and on the same night he has to go quite far to attend someone ill and on his return to the party while driving very fast vijay meets with a car accident and dies. His in-laws call their daughter in-law unlucky and throw her out, but she again becomes pregnant. Lakshmi while running away from goons arrives at a courtesan's parlour. Tamanchabai (Nadira) takes her in and there she gives birth to a girl. Lakshmi never sells her body, just her dance. Years later she happens to kill Moti Seth (Bharat Kapoor) as he wanted a one night affair with Lakshmi's niw young daughter. Her son Ajay (Raj Babbar) who she calls Pappu in childhood is now a lawyer, he fights against her in court but once he knows that Lakshmi is his mum, he asks the court for her forgiveness but she still gets life imprisonment. But outside court after embracing her son and daughter she dies.

Once there, he meets with Chandidas Rai, a businessman, who would like Ashok to work for him in his uranium laboratory, which Ashok accepts.
