Viola Hastings (Amanda Bynes) is a high school soccer player at Cornwall, which has just cut its girls' soccer team. Viola is into sports and is really passionate about football. Viola is dating Justin, a fellow soccer player on the boy's team. Viola knows that she plays better than half the boys on the team. After her request to join the boys' team is refused by the misogynistic coach Pistonek (Robert Torti), she finds a way to play for Cornwall's rival, Illyria. Viola breaks up with Justin when he laughs at her idea of trying out for the boy's team. Viola's twin brother, Sebastian (James Kirk), is supposed to enter Illyria as a new student, and since he is instead going to a contest in London with his fledgling band, Sebastian asks Viola to cover for him by telling the school that he is sick and each of their parents (who are divorced) Daphne (Julie Hagerty) and Roger (John Pyper-Ferguson) thinks that he is staying with the other. Viola is not thrilled about the idea as Sabastian just got kicked out of Cornwall for skipping. Sebastian is dating Monique (Alex Breckenridge). Daphne wants Viola to attend the debutante pageant, which she believes is archaic. Viola instead decides to pass herself off as Sebastian and join the boys' soccer team at Illyria. Illyria is coached by Dinklage (Vinnie Jones). She hopes to beat the Cornwall team and humiliate her sexist goalie ex-boyfriend, Justin (Robert Hoffman) who plays for the rival team. With the help of her stylist friend Paul (Jonathan Sadowski) and her girlfriends, Viola becomes the quirky "Sebastian". At Illyria, Viola's roommate is Duke Orsino (Channing Tatum), a good-looking striker on the soccer team. Duke finds tampons in "Sebastian's" backpack, which he says is for nose bleeds. Try-outs see Viola assigned to second string, much to her dismay. "Sebastian" avoids removing his shirt on the playground by saying that he is allergic to the sun. "Sebastian" is taken a ragging event for soccer newbies, and he only escapes by triggering the fire alarm. Everybody thinks that "Sebastian" is a dork, so Viola asks her friends Kia (Amanda Crew) and Yvonne (Jessica Lucas) to dress provocatively and flirt with "Sebastian" shamelessly, to improve his image in front of the guys. But then Monique comes looking for Sebastian, and "Sebastian" has to run away. Meanwhile, "Sebastian's" lab partner, Olivia (Laura Ramsey), develops a crush on him, which frustrates Duke, who likes Olivia. In exchange for "Sebastian's" help in getting Olivia's attention, Duke agrees to put in extra soccer practice time with him. Coach Dinklage eventually moves "Sebastian" up to first string, and he is delighted. Meanwhile "Sebastian" realizes that Duke is not good with talking to girls. "Sebastian" helps Duke in having a casual conversation with any girl. "Sebastian" is reminded, by a message from his mother, about the Junior League carnival that the siblings promised to attend. Since Duke's mother is also a part of the Junior League, he must go as well. "Sebastian" is forced to switch between herself (Viola) and Sebastian the whole time, while trying to avoid her mother and Monique so that she is not discovered as impersonating her brother. Viola is trying to run around and do both her and her brother's jobs at the carnival. Duke misses his chance with Olivia when her shift is up at the kissing booth. He is not disappointed by her replacement, who turns out to be "Sebastian's" sister, Viola. Duke and Viola meet for the first time and exchange their kiss at the kissing booth, only to be interrupted by Viola's ex-boyfriend, Justin. Duke and Justin get into a fight and decide they will finish the battle on the soccer field. Duke realizes he might be crushing not only on Olivia, but on Viola as well. "Sebastian" tells Duke to go after Viola. "Sebastian" had told Olivia that she is not his type. Olivia goes on a date with Duke to make "Sebastian" jealous, remaining far more interested in him than in Duke. Duke is smitten with Olivia and agrees to go on a date with her, despite "Sebastian" reminding him to call Viola instead. "Sebastian" barges in by convincing Olivia to do a double date with him and Eunice, and Olivia and Duke. Encouraged by Viola (who meets Olivia at a preparation session for the debutante's ball), Olivia decides to go directly to "Sebastian" and tell him how she feels. Monique and Olivia end up in a big fight when Olivia taunts her that Sebastian dumped Monique. Things become complicated when the real Sebastian returns from London a day early. Sebastian had left Monique a message that he was in London but is heading home. This makes Monique wonder about who has been masquerading Sebastian all this while. When he arrives at Illyria, Olivia runs up and kisses him. Duke, seeing this, believes his roommate has betrayed him and after arguing with "Sebastian" kicks him out. Viola stays in Eunice's room and oversleeps, causing the real Sebastian to wind up on the field playing in what should be his sister's spot in the next day's much-anticipated game against Cornwall. Principal Gold (David Cross), who has been told of Viola's impersonating Sebastian by two students, Monique, and Malcolm, halts the game and informs the crowd that Sebastian is a girl. The real Sebastian being present instead, he proves himself to be male by pulling down his shorts and exposing his genitals. At half-time, Viola explains the situation to Sebastian, and they switch places again. Later on, in the game Viola explains that she has been impersonating her brother, finally convincing Duke and everyone else by showing them her breasts. The coach agrees to let Viola keep playing anyway, sternly informing the Cornwall coach that Illyria doesn't discriminate based on gender and he calls out the coach for his sexist ways. Illyria wins the game on a penalty kick when Viola scores a goal (after a save and then pass from Duke) pass her ex-boyfriend Justin. Everyone at Illyria celebrates their victory over Cornwall, except for Duke who is hurt at Viola's deception. She invites Duke to her debutante ball. They meet in a garden and head to the Debutante ball, where they are introduced, come on stage, and kiss. At the end of the film, Viola and Duke are shown playing on the soccer team of Illyria a year later, both on the first string.

Ronnie must then deal with his new life, while having to deal with missing his ex-wife that he left back home. This is a delightful comedy with countless celebrity cameos by Dave Foley, Jeff Goldblum, and Jack Black just to name a few. The film begins with GloboTech Industries acquiring the Heartland toy company, CEO Gil Mars tells remaining toy designers Larry Benson and Irwin Wayfair to develop actual live-action toys capable of "playing back". Mars selects the action figures the Commando Elite for the project and educational toys the Gorgonites for their enemies. After Mars forgoes any safety testing and sets a short production time, Benson uses Irwin's password and chooses GloboTech's overly powerful, X1000 intelligent AI munitions microprocessor integrated circuit to control the toys. Teenager Alan Abernathy signs off for a shipment of the toys at his family's toy store without his father's consent. He and a delivery truck driver named Joe investigate the toys introducing the Gorgonites' leader Archer and the Commando Elite's leader Chip Hazard. The daughter of Alan's next-door neighbor and love interest, Christy Fimple, buys Chip as a birthday present for her brother Timmy. After Archer sneaks to Alan's home in Alan's backpack, Alan realizes that he is a sentient being, but in the meantime, the Commando Elite awaken and apparently destroy the Gorgonites in the toy store. Alan calls the company and fills in a complaint. Later when Larry and Irwin listen to Alan's voice mail, they wonder how Alan got the toys since they were only supposed to be released at a later date, causing Larry to conclude that they are dealing with industrial espionage. Larry tries to ignore the problem until he admits he ordered the AI chips, and he used Irwin's password to get the AI chips. Irwin is terrified to discover that the X1000 were originally designed for military purposes. Larry and Irwin head to the facility that made the munitions chips and learn that the X1000 chips can learn and grow based on their programming and they can also overcome their programming. However, they cannot stand an EMP since the shielding required to protect the chips was not cost effective, which caused the government to shut down the project. Meanwhile, Chip and his squad pursue Alan to his home and attempt to kill him and Archer. Alan is attacked by Nick Nitro, whom he mortally wounds. The next day, Alan and Archer find the rest of the Gorgonites in a dumpster. At home, Alan learns that the primary goal of the Gorgonites is to seek their homeland Gorgon which they mistakenly believe to be Yosemite National Park. The Commando Elite aware of Alan's interest in Christy upon intercepting a phone call occurring between them, invade the Fimples' house, drug Christy's parents with sleeping pills, tie up and gag Timmy and place him in a closet, turn Christy's collection of Gwendy dolls into auxiliaries and wait for Christy. She comes back from a date and is finally captured herself with the dolls, who declare that "it's their turn to play with her." After hearing her scream, her boyfriend runs up to see her being held down by the dolls, tied with ropes, and gagged. Before he can do anything, the Commandos attack him, causing him to run out of the room. Chip asks Christy if she is scared; he states "you'd have to be crazy not to be scared" causing her to look up in dread. They send a video message to Alan, telling him to surrender the Gorgonites or Christy will die. Alan and Archer distract the Commandos and sneak into the Fimple house to save Christy, who warms to Alan for his courage. She is tied to a chair and gagged with duct tape, but Archer frees her. They are then pursued down the street by the Commando Elite in heavily armed kit-bash vehicles, but they are all destroyed during the chase - except Chip who locates Joe's truck full of recalled Commandos. At Alan's house, Irwin and Larry seek out Alan after monitoring his phone call about the dangerous nature of the toys. Stuart punches Larry for the Commando Elite almost killing Alan. Chip attacks the house with more Commandos equipped with large numbers of improvised vehicles and weapons, and a battle breaks out between the Commando Elite and the humans inside. During the battle, the humans learn they can fry the toys' chips with an EMP blast. Alan heads out to destroy a nearby power-line to overload it and create such a pulse; Christy, Irwin and Larry head to the Fimples' house to turn on all of the electronic items inside and wedge the power transformers open to reinforce the pulse. The normally peaceful Gorgonites exit the house and fight back against the Commando Elite. Chip flies to the top of the power-line pole to stop Alan, where he briefly battles and defeats Archer. But just as Chip claims victory, Alan seizes Chip and jams him into the power-line, triggering an EMP blast which kills Chip along with all of the remaining Commando Elite. The next day, while the police and firefighters are cleaning up, Gil arrives in his helicopter. He bribes Joe, the Fimples, and the Abernathys into silence and orders Larry and Irwin to prepare the Commando Elite for military missions in South America. Gil is disappointed that the toys will never be a big hit in the toy stores. Amongst the craziness of the aftermath, Alan and Christy part on highly amicable terms, and Alan later discovers that the Gorgonites have screened themselves from the EMP blast by hiding underneath the Fimples' large satellite dish. The Gorgonites are surprised that they finally won the war against the Commando Elite. The film ends with him accompanying them into Yosemite National Park where he sends them out in a large toy boat from his father's store to find their island home of Gorgon.
