Nancy Drew is based on a fictional character, the titular teen detective, where Nancy (Emma Roberts) goes together with her father, Carson Drew (Tate Donovan) on one of his business trips to Los Angeles. She falters across evidence about a long standing crime involving a death of a beautiful movie star under strange circumstances. Nancys inventiveness and personal liabilities are tested when she finds herself amidst the fast living, self- indulgent world of Hollywood.

David Fox (Luke Wilson) and his soon-to-be ex- wife Amy (Kate Beckinsale) are forced to spend the night at a cheap motel when their car breaks down on a remote country road. The motel is run by an odd but seemingly harmless proprietor (Frank Whaley). In their filthy room, the couple finds a series of homemade slasher films which seem to be disturbingly real. They realize that the videos were shot in the very same room that they are staying in! David and Amy must put aside their differences and work together to escape, or become the sadistic filmmakers next victims.
