The transformation takes place and Sanjay, much to his horror, is transformed to a female. He sets about his normal lifestyle, but finds obstacles everywhere. He confides in Loveleen and Shekhar about his real identity, tells everyone that he is Sanjay's sister, re-names himself Sanjana, and let her take over his job and life - albeit hilariously. He is asked to secure a 3.5 Crore deal with Prakash Malhotra, who is all set to seduce her/him. Then the inevitable happens when alcohol-induced Shekhar and Sanjana get intimate, with Sanjana getting pregnant. Even while Sanjana is attempting to adjust his/her life to this challenge, the Police find the body of a dead male, identify it as that of Sanjay's, and arrest Sanjana for his death. Ziya has worked with all the big-name banners in the industry and has done a wide variety of movies ranging from commercial to artistic. Her live-in relationship is about to break up with Neel (Rahul Bose) who has groomed her for a film career. She wants a child with him, but he does not want any responsibilities. Neel says that he was only a doormat in Ziya's life, and he never knew whom she truly loved. He says that he invested 3 years in Ziya's career and to proper her to stardom and yet she did not take even 3 minutes to acquire the starry airs. Diya Rao (Divya Dutta) is Ziya's younger sister and knows that Ziya can be a bit moody. Soon Neel moves on and finds another girlfriend Nandita (Priya Badlani). Nandita's uncle Harry (Rakesh Bedi) is a rich industrialist and is putting up a big project for Neel and Nandita. Ziya is spying on Neel & Nandita and knows that Nandita is also cheating on Neel. While Ziya was watching the CD on her home entertainment system, Diya also saw the video and knew Nandita's secret. Diya is a simpleton and repeats whatever Ziya says. Ziya tells Diya that men like Neel only entertain themselves with girls like Ziya, but for marriage they want a "pure" girl coming from a high-class family. Ziya calls Neel and asks him to come by one last time to pick up his stuff which is still lying in Ziya's home. Before Neel arrives, Ziya shreds all of Neel's favorite suits to pieces. When Neel arrives, Ziya's mood changes again and she seduces him. Ziya says that she never acted with starry airs in front of Neel, but Neel says that Ziya was always thinking of the male actors that she was working with, which made him insecure. Ziya says that Neel was never emotionally present in the relationship and was never invested in making it work. Ziya knows that Neel would have asked Nandita to come and pick him up in an hour, and that she would be waiting by the front gate. Rehana gets Ziya to sign a few autographs but does not have any topics to engage her in a conversation. Diya is angry at Neel and gives him the DVD that Ziya's spy made for her. Neel watches the DVD with Nandita and finds out that she was having sex with another guy. Neel dumps her. Anushka (Riya Sen) is a telephone receptionist who longs to discover tenderness in her relationship with a wealthy suitor Nikhil (Ashmit Patel). Meanwhile, her office colleague, Tarun (Jimmy Shergill), loves her silently. Anushka knows that Tarun has feelings for her but ignores him. Her colleague at office is Piya (Anita Hassanandani). They both work in Nandita's uncle's office. Piya is sexually open, and flirtatious, but Anushka is more conservative and traditional in her views about physical relations before marriage. Nikhil wants to have a sexual relationship with Anushka, but she doesn't. For their date, Nikhil books a hotel room and wants to have sex, but Anushka pushes him back. Nikhil dumps her in a second. All the while that Anushka was in the room with Nikhil, Tarun was following her and was waiting in the hotel cafe. Tarun throws a party as he has been transferred to the New York office. He invites both Anushka and Piya for the same. Anushka sees Nikhil at the dance club and proceeds to have fun with Tarun to make Nikhil jealous. Nikhil comes begging back to her and she gives him a passionate French kiss right on the beach, in public. Nikhil is ashamed and now Anushka knows that he only wants a hidden relationship with her and not a public one. The working girl must decide between the two in a romantic finale that has a twist in the tale. Anushka feels bad about treating Nikhil that way, even though Tarun is pursuing her with gifts and roses. She knows Tarun is the safe and sincere guy, but Nikhil is passionate, exciting and adventurous. Anushka asks for Tarun's help to patch up with Nikhil. Tarun takes Anushka to meet Nikhil only to find that Nikhil is having sex with another random girl in the same hotel room that he took Anushka to. Anushka kisses Tarun and sleeps with him. But she won't marry Tarun and wants to start a new life. Rehana (Tabu) is a 2nd housewife of Anwar, who must confront the fact that her husband Anwar (Kay Kay Menon) is being unfaithful to her with an air hostess, Preeti (Celina Jaitly). Inayat (Karan Panthaky) is Anwar's son from the first marriage. Inayat secretly has a crush on Rehana. Rehana gets blank calls from an anonymous caller (which is revealed to be Inayat). Preeti is good friends with Nandita. Inayat hates Anwar and wants Rehana to speak up against the injustice from Anwar. Anwar proposes to Preeti, but she doesn't want to destroy a home. Rehana goes to Preeti while Anwar is with her. Inayat made this happen. Rehana leaves Anwar and says that she sacrificed her life for his happiness. Ziya is pregnant and Neel is the father. Tarun gets a job in NYC and leaves. Rehana moves in with her mother. Ziya has a car crash on the highway right when Rehana is driving by. Rehana takes Ziya to the hospital. She has a boy.

India based Shomu/Som (Sanjay Suri) and his wife Geetu (Divya Dutta) are a happily married couple with two children. Shomu decides to travel to Britain for business purposes, as well as to meet his childhood friend, Ravi Kapoor (Aashish Chaudhary). Ravi believes that Geetu and Som, who got married right out of college, are the perfect married couple. Shomu is in London for a business order and if he gets it, he plans to put another ball bearing factory in India, and upgrade to a new car for Geetu. Shomu gets the order within the first 9 minutes of the meeting, and he was expecting that it would take him 9 days to close the deal. Ravi runs a recording label and launches new musical talent in the industry. But after they become successful, the musicians (especially female ones) take advantage of Ravi's niceness to get released from his contract and sign a fat one with any competitor. Ravi is good friends with Tara (Mandira Bedi). Tara says that Ravi needs a girl who loves him for who he is, and not his status as the MD of a music label. Shomu was smart in college but finds Ravi much ahead in life. Ravi is a MD, drives a Mercedes convertible. Ravi insists that Shomu will stay with him in his house, and not at a hotel. So, Shomu brags about how big his business is and says that his factories make ball bearings for airplanes (when he actually supplies cycle manufacturers). Ravi invites Shomu for auditions for a new female singer. Shomu finds himself getting close to single women and realizes that he is now ready for an extra-marital affair. His friend, Ravi Kapoor, on the contrary believes that Shomu is the luckiest man on earth, as he is in love with his wife, and their marriage is rock steady. But Shomu is kind of annoyed at his shrill, nagging, over-bearing and annoying wife (who is actually very sweet and caring). Geetu is a bit clingy, and Shomu feels suffocated with her. Geetu will call Shomu for trivial issues such as a maid not coming to work for 4 days, and the milkman forgetting to deliver milk. Shomu is introduced to Tara and instantly falls in love. Meanwhile Ravi wants to live Shomu's seemingly perfect life. Shomu can't take it anymore and tells Ravi how miserable he actually is in a marriage. Geetu makes Shomu pick all the bags during shopping trips, sleeps till late while Shomu makes tea and breakfast, Shomu is tormented by his kids who only treat him like a horse, even the dogs (who came in dowry with Geetu) chew up his ties and shoes. Shomu says that real life is different and not like in the movies. Ravi believes that Shomu is only saying these things to keep him away from marital bliss. Ravi is adamant that he wants to get married. Unfortunately, most of the women he knows are engaged, pregnant, married or they simply reject him as they were only nice to him due to his music label. Tara, Ravi and Shomu spend a lot of time together and Shomu is sure that he wants to be with Tara. In the meantime, Ravi meets a waitress named Menaka Choudhary (Samita Bangargi) (she refuses a large tip from Ravi and impresses him). Menaka also moonlights as a singer at a local night club and Ravi decides to launch her as the next star in his music label firm. Ravi asks Shomu to approach Menaka and convince her for the gig. Menaka auditions, but Ravi is super nervous, as he has already blown it with 2 other women in the past and doesn't want to mess up this time. Shomu approaches Menaka and offers her a contract with Ravi's Fuel Music Company. Slowly Ravi and Menaka start to fall in love. Shomu tells Tara that his wife has selective amnesia (Due to a car accident) and has no love life. All this is done by Shomu to gain Tara's sympathy. Tara starts soft dating Shomu. Not trusting her husband, Geetu asks a U.K. based friend to check up on him. The friend (who is a neighbor of Tara and has seen Shomu come to her place several times in the last few days) reports back that Shomu is involved with a woman named Tara. Geetu decides to go to Britain as well and catch Shomu red-handed. When Tara comes to know what Shomu has been doing, she punches Shomu in the nose. Tara explains to Geetu that every male has a roving eye, and she should not try and control Shomu as much. Shomu acknowledges his mistake as well and repents in front of Ravi. Shomu and Geetu meet and make up. Ravi goes out on a date with Menaka, but she doesn't know she is on a date with Ravi. Ravi is trying to say that the music contract was a way for him to get close to Menaka. But she misunderstands Ravi, and thinks he is propositioning her for sex. Ravi gets slapped as Menaka leaves. Ravi is mad at Shomu for misguiding him. He goes to Tara and cries. Ravi proposes to Tara. Shomu goes back to Menaka to explain things to her and tells her that Ravi really loves her. At the wedding, the bride is under cover. Turns out Shomu had dressed Menaka as the bride and not Tara. Ravi is happy.

In 1984 the former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards, and since then the Sikhs have been a target of violent backlashes by radicals and the Punjab Police. During 1985 Gursharan Singh Soman lived a peaceful life as a farmer in rural Punjab, along with his elderly parents, Gurdev and Tejpal, and an unmarried sister, Guddi. Gursharan meets with and gets engaged to the Station House Officer's only daughter, Jassi Sandhu. Shortly thereafter her father is killed in a drive-by shooting, and a new Officer, Randhawa, takes over from him. Far from being ethical and honest, he is only concerned with fulfilling a quota of deaths of so-called terrorists by fake police encounters. Jassi and Gursharan get married as Jassi has no other relatives. When the police find a duffel bag of automatic weapons in Soman's house, they immediately arrest Gursharan and beat him up severely, even though he claims his innocence, alleging that real terrorists had forced themselves upon the family at gun-point. When a deputation from the town asks Randhawa to set him free, he does so, and the Soman family settle down. Guddi is soon to get married to a young man who loves her. Then in July, 1987, Sikh terrorists gun down a bus full of non-Sikhs, setting off a shock wave in the entire country. Punjab Police are instructed to maintain order, even if it means to do away with law. A large number of Sikhs are hunted down and killed in fake police encounters, scores are arrested and tortured. Gursharan is arrested again and severely beaten up in police custody. When Guddi goes to plead with Randhawa to release him, she too is imprisoned and beaten by a burly policewoman. Gursharan's American-based friend, Darshan Singh Gill, comes to their rescue and arranges for Gursharan to visit the U.S.A. on a travel visa as a hockey player. Once in America, Gursharan applies for political asylum, and is granted one, which also permits him to sponsor Jassi, and his new-born son to America. After Jassi's arrival, Gursharan gets a job in a corner store, while Jassi works as a Gas Attendant. It is then Gursharan gets the news that his father has suffered a heart-attack and may not live long. Gursharan is ready to leave for India to be near his family in this crucial hour, but his leaving America may well revoke his political asylum, and even if he does leave America and arrives in India, there is more than a bullet from the Punjab Police awaiting him. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

In the meantime, Yusuf finds out that his mother has been feigning mental illness, and is able to recollect everything that happened on her wedding night. She asks Yusuf to kill Gul and Jameela, to which Yusuf agrees. When his mentor Lala Lajpatrai is mercilessly beaten to death by the police Bhagat Singh is enraged and he sets about to avenge his death. He and his colleagues do succeed in killing one of the officials responsible, but they are identified and as a result they are arrested and held in prison where they are tortured relentlessly. They are then sentenced to a life in prison. The Judge and the Public Prosecutor do not see it that their way and they are sentenced to life in prison. Bhagat's mother, Vidya, comes to meet him in prison, and he goes to greet her, shackled in chains from head to toe, and he foretells that India will continue to suffer, even after Independence from the British, and that he will return in another birth to free his motherland. Vikramaditya Singh (Lucky Ali) is a teacher in a music school named "Sur" in Ooty where he, with others, polishes every student's voice to make them stars. Vikram is very passionate about music and can play several instruments flawlessly. Vikram is a true master of the violin. Vikram is so perfect that most of his students believe that they can never achieve his standards and tend to give up midway during their training. Vikram has just released a new music album working with his music producer. Vikram believes that if his work is good, it will sell for itself. He does not believe in launch parties, or publicity events. Vikram believes that it is his school that will make him immortal. Harman (Eshan Khan) is Vikram's only friend in the entire world. Although Vikramaditya is a famous singer himself, he is not satisfied with his creations as he is looking for a special person. His heart longs for someone so special that, if worked on, would be a masterpiece who would be known as the worthiest graduate and the world's most talented singer. He accidentally meets Tina (Gauri Karnik), who has a magical voice. Vikram was returning home when his jeep breaks down. Harman asks him to get water and Vikram wander off coming across a church where he finds Tina singing in the choir. He learns about her when she sings a prayer in church. The priest tells Vikram that Tina studies in college and then serves drinks at her sister Rita's bar at night. During the evening, she comes for choir. Vikramaditya decides to take her to his school, where she can pay more attention to singing. Vikram goes to Rita's bar. Vikram tells Rita that Tina has an amazing voice but needs a little work. He offers Tina a place in his school, where a new session is starting in 2 days. Vikram says that he wants to make a star out of Tina. Rita recognizes that Vikram is a famous singer. Divya (Simone Singh) is Vikram's business partner for 8 years and objects to Tina gaining entry without the tough entry tests that other students had to endure, but Vikram overrides her saying that Tina will be his true successor. Vikram says that Tina will be his chance to become immortal in the annals of music. Divya is jealous and says that in her time at the school, Vikram never praised her that way. For training Tina has to shift to Vikram's school and her sister Rita (Divya Dutta), forces her to pack her bags and relocate to Vikram's school. Tina used to help Rita run her bar and contribute to the income of the family. But Rita doesn't want Tina to miss this chance of a lifetime as Vikram is a really successful singer and commercially a superstar. Rita tells Tina that Vikram already gave her a check for Rs 58,820 to hire a replacement for Tina at the bar. Tina starts off by being totally tone deaf and Vikram gives her individual attention to improve her musical and tonic sense. Vikram is also super tough on her and won't let her settle on mediocrity or let her set low standards for herself. He demands perfection. As Vikramaditya improves Tina's talent, she falls in love with him. Slowly, he molds her into a brilliant singer, and she emerges a star. Vikram's usual music producer Vishal (Yashodhan Bal) and his assistant Pooja (Achint Kaur), visit Vikram's school and hear Tina sing. They are mesmerized by her songs and want to sign Tina along with Vikram for his next album with them. In spite of Vikramaditya's dream coming true, he starts feeling jealous when he discovers Tina's success. He is not able to take in the fact that she is better than he is, so he starts competing with her. He agrees to Tina singing a song with him in his next album, but when Vishal and Pooja arrive, he presents Tina's song as his own. It was supposed to be a duet, but Vikram starts breaking her confidence, then dominates and overpowers her. He eradicates Tina from her own creation. Tina is completely broken down and can't understand why this is happening to her. Tina leaves the school. Her song is a blockbuster hit. At a party, One of Vikram's students Aqib (Harsh Vashisht), who was also good friends with Tina, confronts Vikram and accuses him of stealing Tina's song. Vikram throws Aqib out of the school, and for the first time Divya also tells Vikram to confront his own reality that he is refusing to acknowledge. Vikram starts drinking a lot and loses all control. Rita comes by and thanks Vikram profusely for the opportunity that he gave Tina. But she gives him a check for Tina's time at the school. Divya is livid and tells Vikram that he is wrong. Vikram goes to meet Tina and finds that she has become a sister at a convent. Vikram is devastated that he has destroyed Tina's life, but Divya helps him understand that Tina loves him. She asks Vikram not to give up. Vikram pursues Tina relentlessly and reminds her of her love for music. Vikram asks Vishal and Pooja to organize a concert in a week's time. They are super chuffed as this is the first concert Vikram has agreed to in his professional life. Vikram admits to Tina that he was a failure as he got jealous of his own student's success. Tina is moved by this confession and agrees to sing. On the day of the concert, Vikram goes missing and Pooja & Vishal beg Tina to sing to save the day. Tina performs at the concert dedicating her love for Vikramaditya, and the concert is a huge success. Later, Tina goes to meet Vikram at his house, and feels grateful to Vikram and expresses her desire to sing with him. But Vikram rejects her proposal, telling her that she should sing alone and that he wants her to become a big name in the future. A Heartbroken Tina leaves Vikram's house and continues her career, dedicating it to Vikram.

The film is set in 1947. The exodus has begun after Partition. A Sikh ex-military man in his thirties finds a 16-year-old Muslim girl alone in a nearby village and brings her home. But the villagers tell him he should either marry her or leave her in a camp where people bound for Pakistan are located. But he decides that since he's far older, he'd better leave her at the camp. As he is about to send her off with a man bound for the camp and who is prepared to marry her there, she asks Buta Singh if he is so poor that he cannot even feed her two Rotis per day to keep her alive. Whereupon Buta Singh decides to marry her. They have a baby girl. And Buta is pretty happy that despite being overage, matrimonially speaking, he's leading a pleasant life. Others of his class usually had to actually buy women from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar whom they married. A jealous uncle who realizes the family property will now go to the Muslim girl, forcibly dumps Buta's wife into a truck bound for Pakistan. Buta realizes what has happened, sells all his land and goes along with his child to Pakistan illegally. He's quickly arrested and brought before a judge who's quite willing to free him if his wife owns up. But, under pressure from her family, the girl backs off. A disillusioned and distraught Buta jumps with his daughter before an oncoming train. He dies, but his daughter is saved. Pakistani youth, overcome by this, hail him thus: Shaheed-e-Mohabat (a martyr in the cause of love), erect a memorial and a trust in his name. —Jalwehra

Some hotheaded Sikhs from outside the village hatch a plan to kill the Muslims on the train before it it sent to Pakistan. The Muslim lover of the village baddie Juggut Singh is supposed to be on the train. He single handedly foils the plan to butcher the train passengers sacrificing his own life in the process. Tensions run high near the Indo-Pak border immediately after independence of India in August 1947 when the country is being partitioned with a new country called Pakistan. Sikhs living in this border town have heard numerous stories of Muslims killing, raping, and looting other Sikhs, Hindus, and Christians, and many of whom are their friends and relatives. Enraged at the loss of law and order, they plan their own attack on a trainful of Muslims leaving British India. The train is overcrowded with thousands of migrating passengers, who are even perched on the windows and the roof of this train. The plot is to fell those seated on the roof of the train with a rope tied across the start of the bridge and kill them.
