Do Dishayen is the story of a wealthy businessman played by Dharmendra, whose wife (Hema Malini) leaves him after the birth of their kid. When his kid craves for mother's love, Dharmendra mages to calm him down by lying about the whereabouts of his mother. Amit (Amitabh Bachchan) is found wounded on railway tracks and when he awakens he has no memory of who he is and doesn't remember anything about his life. Six years later, he is living with a wealthy couple who have adopted him as their son and is now named Naresh Dutt. One day (after a car accident on the roads) he wakes up and cannot recognize his parents and has no recollection of his recent past. Mr Sumesh Dutt (Pradeep Kumar) and Mrs Dutt (Urmila Bhatt) had lost their 8 year old son Naresh 20 years ago in the Kumbh Mela. Sumesh tells Naresh that 6 yrs ago, while travelling to Nasik, they found a man injured on the railway tracks and Mrs Dutt adopted him as her own son, Naresh. When the man woke up, he had lost his memory and easily accepted MR and Mrs Dutt as his parents. Mr Dutt reveals to Naresh that his real son's dead body was found the very next day in Sangam river, but he never told his wife as she would have committed suicide. Naresh begins to regain his memory when he watches a film and realizes that the actress in the film is related to him somehow. It is then that he discovers the actress in the film is none other than his wife Rekha Roy (Rekha). In flashbacks Naresh remembers that Rekha was a small time dancer in Calcutta when he met her for the first time. He got married to her, but she was not happy as she was ambitious and wanted to earn both respect and fame in her career. right from the beginning Rekha makes it clear with Amit (which is his real name) that she wont do housework and is dis-satisfied with his rs 500 a month salary. She wants luxury and status... Amit takes 2 loans on his PF and money from his friends to fund his wives lavish lifestyle and her dancing classes. To the extent that this comes in notice of his boss, who decides to cut 50% of his pay towards his PF loan. Meanwhile Rekha wants to increase the salary of her dance teacher to Rs 100/month. The teacher brings a movie producer, who wants Rekha to perform a cabaret in his next movie. But Amit refuses and Rekha is angry. Then they realize that Rekha is pregnant and she is furious at Amit for destroying her life and her career. Amit's neighbor (Lalita Pawar) stokes the marital discord for her own entertainment. Due to his hard work Amit receives a promotion at work and his PF loan is excused. Mithun is born and is now 4 yrs old. Ranjeet Malik (Prem Chopra) is Amit's US returned friend, whom he introduces to Rekha. Rekha is attracted to Ranjeet's flashy cars and expensive clothes. He offers Rekha a dance performance for charity, which Amit allows. Rekha liked a pearl necklace but it costed rs 1500, so Amit wants to borrow money from Ranjeet to gift the necklace to Rekha on her birthday. But Ranjeet refuses the money to Amit and gifts Rekha the necklace himself. Amit starts to think that something is on between Rekha and Ranjeet. The charity show is a hit and Ranjeet tells Amit that he is getting movie offers for Rekha. Amit gets more and more jealous and Rekha goes to Ranjeet to complain. Ranjeet suggests they all take a vacation in Mumbai and takes them by train. In the train, Ranjeet gets Amit drunk and when Amit again talks about why Ranjeet is being so generous to him and Rekha, Ranjeet pushes him off the train. Amit travels to Calcuuta and finds out that Rekha is now a very successful film actress, having changed her name to Sunita Devi and her manager is none other than Ranjeet. Amit befriends director Mr Sanyal (Utpal Dutt) who tells Amit (who poses as a film financier from Mumbai) that Rekha's first husband committed suicide and that his young son who is now 10 years old has been sent to a boarding school and regains custody of his son. He first makes sure that his son recognizes him, despite the disguise, which he does. He plans on taking revenge against Ranjeet. Amit comes up with a plan to re-enter Rekha and Ranjit's lives by disguising himself as a film producer. He meets with Rekha and Ranjit and offers Rekha the opportunity to act in his new film titled Do Anjaane. Rekha and Ranjit grow suspicious of Naresh Dutt as they start to realize that he bears a striking resemblance to Rekha's supposedly deceased husband Amit Roy and the story line of his film eerily mirrors Rekha's past life. Amit uses his wealth to lure Rekha away from Ranjeet and drive a wedge between the two. Ranjeet and Rekha do their own investigation but only find that Naresh is indeed the sole son of wealthy businessman Sumeet. After shooting one of the scenes, Rekha realizes that Ranjeet had pushed Amit out of the train, and he had not committed suicide as Ranjeet had claimed. Ranjeet threatens Rekha that if he is arrested, she will be too. Ranjeet attacks Amit, but Amit is ready and records his confession and hands him over to the police. Rekha arrives and Amit tells her that he will take away Mithun from her. The next day they both arrive at the boarding school and Mithun decides to go with Amit. In the end, Amit pretended to go back to Mumbai with his son, instead came back to Rekha's home with his parents. It is concluded that he forgave her halfheartedly and they got back together again.

Maanav is an orphan who was brought up by a Catholic Priest, Father Francis. After completing his M.A. he returns home to Taran Devi and finds out that his mentor his dead. He re-locates to Bombay by train, and a man named Gopichand Sharma attempts to steal his luggage, but Maanav chases him and retrieves it. Both men become friends, despite of their differences - Maanav wants to lead a honest life, and Gopichand, who is estranged from his wife, a nurse, Kalyani, and son, Munna, is an alcoholic and thief. Gopichand eventually changes his lifestyle, decides to be honest, patches up with his family, but ends up antagonizing his crime boss, Monto Sardar, who chops off his right hand. Maanav gets him a job with Hercules Milk Foods. Maanav meets with and falls in love with Kaajal Gupta, who is the daughter of the owner of Hercules Milk Foods, much to the chagrin of her dad who wants her to get married to Shyamal. Then one day Maanav disappears from Gopichand and Kaajal's lives. He re-locates to Simla and it is here that he learns that things have spiraled out of control as Gopichand has been arrested for marketing contaminated milk powder resulting in the deaths of hundreds of children. Maanav decides to return to Bombay and attempts to try and make sense why Gopichand committed this crime. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com) An orphan Maanv returns to Shimla after completing his education to meet Father Francis but finds that he has already passed away sometime back and its was his wish not to inform him about his death which could impact his education.Manav decides to relocate Bombay in search of job where on his journey he is looted by a thief Gopi but manages to get hold of him despite their differences Maanav and Gopi start living with each other.Maanav finds it hard to get a job while Gopi continues to live by looting people and tells Gopi that he will live life way he wants if he is unable to find a job in 10 days.Manav fails to find job and tries to commit suicide but Gopi saves him and decides to live life of honesty,Manav meets Kaajal daughter of a rich businessman Gupta she promises him job but first he has to pretend to be her boyfriend so that her fiance Shyamlal breaks up with her.Things are going well when Maanav reunites Gopi with his wife Kalyani and son and finds job for Gopi when his crime boss cut his fingers.But Maanav who has developed liking for Kaajal soon disappears from her and Gopi's life and relocates to Shimla but returns back when he he finds that Gopi is accused of selling contaminated milk leading to deaths of many children. —alex.mjacko@gmail.com

Jaya lives in a village called Chandangaon in India along with her widower dad, Gokul, who works for a living as a compounder, but calls himself a Homeopathic doctor and dispenses Arnica for all kinds of ailments, especially since there is no qualified doctor in the village. Since Jaya is or marriageable age, he has arranged her marriage with hard-of-hearing Shiv, the son of Dayashankar, who is the President of the Gram Panchayat. Dayashankar is anxious to get Shiv married so that he can get some dowry from Gokul. The other suitor for Jaya is Ratan, whose mother would like her to re-marry her son as his wife, Maya, is unable to conceive. Then a new doctor arrives in this village to look after the charitable dispensary. Things heat up when Dayashankar and Ratan's mom find out that he may be Jaya's new suitor.
