Jim and Sara Evers are successful realtors with two children, Michael and Megan. A workaholic with little time for his family, Jim misses his wedding anniversary and tries to make amends by suggesting a vacation to the nearby lake. Sara is contacted by the occupants of Gracey Manor, located in the nearby bayou; Jim, eager to make a deal after learning where the mansion is, takes his family there, meeting its owner, Edward Gracey, his butler Ramsley and his other servants; maid Emma and footman Ezra. When a rainstorm floods the nearby river, Gracey has the family to stay for the night. Ramsley takes Jim to the library to discuss the deal with Gracey, but Jim becomes trapped in a secret passage. Gracey gives Sara a tour of the mansion, discussing his past and his "grandfather"'s death after the suicide of his lover, Elizabeth Henshaw. Megan and Michael follow a spectral orb to the attic, where they find a portrait of a woman that bears an almost identical resemblance to Sara. Emma and Ezra appear, and identify the woman as the late Elizabeth. Meanwhile, Jim meets Madame Leota, the ghost of a gypsy whose head is encased in a crystal ball. He runs into Emma, Ezra and his children, and returns to Leota for answers about Elizabeth's likeness to Sara. It is then revealed that the mansion's inhabitants are ghosts, cursed a century ago by Elizabeth's and Gracey's untimely deaths, and can only enter the afterlife when the lovers are reunited; Sara is believed to be Elizabeth's reincarnation. Leota then sends the Evers to the mansion's cemetery to find a key that will reveal the truth about Elizabeth's death. In a crypt beneath a mausoleum, Jim and Megan find the key, but inadvertently disturb its undead residents. However, they escape with help from Michael, who overcomes his arachnophobia. Leota leads them to a trunk in the attic, which Jim unlocks to find a letter Elizabeth wrote to Gracey, revealing she truly loved him and wanted to marry him, indicating that she did not commit suicide as everyone believed. Ramsley then appears and reveals he murdered Elizabeth to prevent Gracey from abandoning his heritage, as he believed their relationship was unacceptable. To hide the truth, Ramsley traps the children in a trunk and literally throws Jim out of the mansion. As Gracey and Sara rendezvous in the ballroom, she is confused when he asks if she recognizes him, and he insists she is his beloved Elizabeth. The room fills with dancing ghosts as Gracey reveals his ghostly self, but Sara denies being Elizabeth. This gives Gracey second thoughts, but Ramsley insists that Sara is Elizabeth and, in time, she will remember. Ramsley blackmails Sara into marrying Gracey in exchange for her children's safety. Encouraged by Leota, Jim manages to re-enter the mansion, rescue his children, and stop Sara and Gracey's wedding. He gives Gracey Elizabeth's letter and Ramsley's crime is exposed. As Gracey angrily confronts Ramsley, the latter rages at his master's apparent selfishness for loving Elizabeth and summons wraiths to attack the group. However, with the truth revealed, a fiery entity emerges from the ballroom's fireplace and prepares to drag Ramsley down to Hell to face eternal punishment. Ramsley attempts to take Jim with him, but he is saved by Gracey. Sara collapses, having been poisoned by Ramsley during the wedding ceremony, but the spectral orb appears and, possessing Sara. It is revealed to be Elizabeth's ghost, who could only be released from her current form once the truth was revealed. Elizabeth and Gracey reunite as Sara is subsequently revived. With the curse finally lifted, Gracey gives the Evers the deed to the mansion and departs to Heaven with Elizabeth, Emma, Ezra, and the mansion's other inhabitants. The Evers drive across the Lake Ponchartrain Causeway for a proper vacation, accompanied by Leota and four singing busts that they encountered while searching for the mausoleum, strapped to the back of their car.

Shan Yu (Miguel Ferrer) is a Hun & attacks China after the Emperor builds the Great Wall. General Shigeta is in charge of defenses. Shan Yu has already crossed the Northern Borders when the news reaches the Royal Court. Chi-Fu (James Hong) is the Emperor's adviser and assistant. In the Imperial City, the Emperor (Pat Morita) orders a general mobilization, with conscription notices requiring one man from each family to join the Imperial Chinese Army. Mulan (Ming-Na Wen) is a tom boyish village girl who fails at finding herself a good husband. Mulan is expected to be quiet, graceful, polite, punctual and demure. Mulan has a pet horse Khan (Frank Welker) and cricket Cri-Kee (Frank Welker). She is arranged to meet a matchmaker (Miriam Margolyes) to demonstrate her fitness as a future wife. Fa-Zhou (Soon-Tek Oh) prays to the ancestors to help Mulan impress the matchmaker and bring honor to the family. Fa Li (Freda Foh Shen) is her mother and her Grandmother Fa (June Foray). In these times Women bring honor to their family by getting married to a suitable groom and giving birth to boys, who can serve the Emperor. Women are only expected to conduct house chores and look beautiful. Mulan is bathed and dressed up for her meeting with the matchmaker. Grandmother Fa adds Cri-Kee to Mulan's outfit for extra luck. Following a few mishaps (Mulan had taken notes on her hand, and when the matchmaker holds her arm the ink is transferred to her palm and from there to the matchmaker's face. Then Cri-Kee gets into the Matchmakers dress, and she falls on hot coals), the matchmaker deems her a disgrace to the family. Mulan is heartbroken and know that if she is herself, she will never bring honor to her family. Fa-Zhou consoles Mulan and says that she is just a late bloomer and when her time comes, she will bring honor to the family. Mulan's father Fa Zhou is summoned by Imperial Army to serve the Emperor against the Huns. Fa Zhou is old and has a limp in his leg (but he would not even consider not going as that would mean dishonor for the family for generations), so Mulan goes instead, dressed as a man. Mulan takes Fa-Zhou's orders, his sword and armor and rides away on Khan. When her absence is discovered, Fa-Zhou refuses to go after her, as if Mulan is found impersonating a man, she will be killed. Mulan's grandmother prays to the family's ancestors (Mary Kay Bergman) for Mulan's safety. In the local temple, Mushu (Eddie Murphy), a small red dragon, is a disgraced former family guardian who is demoted to the role of awakening the spirits of the ancestors. Mushu was demoted when he was sent to protect Fa-Deng and his misguidance led to disaster, with Fa-Deng being decapitated. The ancestors argue whether Mulan's actions are right or not, and the ancestors are split in 2 camps on the issue. The Great Ancestor (George Takei) decides that the powerful stone dragon guardian should guide Mulan; and sends Mushu to wake him. After accidentally destroying the guardian's statue, Mushu travels to Mulan's aid himself (after Cri-Kee talks to Mushu and gives him this idea), desiring to redeem himself to the ancestors by making Mulan a war hero. Cri-Kee decides to travel with Mushu, just to make sure that he doesn't get Mulan in trouble. As China continues to prepare for war, Shan Yu and the Huns are riding quickly through the wilderness toward the city. Shan-Yu sets fire to all the villages in his path. He has an eagle that soars above the battlefield and informs Shan-Yu of any unseen dangers. Hun soldiers capture two imperial scouts, and Shan Yu tauntingly instructs them to tell the Emperor to send his finest troops to battle the Huns. Reasoning that it only takes one man to deliver a message, Shan Yu has one of the scouts executed. Meanwhile Mulan is practicing how to be a man, just outside the army camp where she is supposed to report. Mushu links up with Mulan (Mulan is not convinced that her ancestors send her a little lizard to help her) & devises a plan to make Mulan a war hero to restore her family's honor & secure his own place as the guardian of ancestral temple. Mushu teaches Mulan to walk and talk like a man. Mulan meets fellow soldiers Yao (Harvey Fierstein), Chien-Po (Jerry Tondo), and Ling (Gedde Watanabe). Mushu's advise of hitting men and slapping their behinds only leads to a brawl and Mulan barely manages to escape. Captain Li Shang (BD Wong) is General Shigeta's son & in charge of training. General Shigeta takes the trained soldiers to stop Shan Yu at a pass, and leaves Li Shang in charge of the camp. Shigeta argues that Li Shang was at the top of his class, is well versed in military techniques and has an impressive military lineage, and so is the right person for the post. Chi-Fu is not happy with Li Shang's appointment and promises to keep a close eye on him for any mistakes. Li Shang has a tough assignment on his hands to train the troops as they are totally undisciplined. Mulan gives her name as Ping and says that Ping is Fa-Zhou's son. Chi-Fu believes this as "Ping" is clumsy and awkward. The remaining soldiers turn against Ping as Li Shang punishes them for Ping's mistakes and make him sleep outside of their camp. Li Shang starts training the troops. Their first task is to retrieve an arrow from the top of a tall mast, by wearing 2 heavy weights in their wrists. Yao and his buddies continue to undermine "Ping" by tripping him or putting insects down his shirt. At first Mulan is clumsy & disgraceful. Mushu helps Mulan cheat and pass the tests, but she is often caught by Li Shang. Slowly Mulan learns all the skills & surpasses all fellow soldiers at the defense arts. Mulan is the first to retrieve the arrow from the top of the mast. With time, the other soldiers accept "Ping" as their friend and comrade. The guys enter the lake when Mulan was bathing there, and she is trapped. She is only able to get away when Mushu bites one of the men and they believe that there is a snake in the lake. The confusion and chaos allow Mulan to escape with Khan's help. Shan Yu attacks the village that General Shigeta is defending as he already knew from his eagle that an ambush was set up for him. Though the soldiers have successfully completed training, but army supervisor Chi Fu (James Fong) is skeptical of the progress Captain Li has made and declares that in his report he will mark the troops as unfit for battle. Mushu also finds that Mulan is attracted to Li Shang. Mushu, afraid of losing the plot fakes a letter to Chi Fu from General Shigeta requesting all available troops at the front line. The ruse works, and Shang marches the troops out of camp the following day. On their march, the guys dream of becoming a hero and marrying a beautiful girl. But nobody wants a girl with a brain and one who speaks her own mind. Li Shang's troops arrive at the village to find the army destroyed & Shigeta dead. Li decides to pursue Shan Yu before he gets to the Imperial city. While pursuing, Mushu accidentally sets off a cannon giving away Li's position in the mountain pass. Li Shang's men use their cannons to attack the archers atop the mountain, but Li Shang asks them to save the last cannon. When the cannons are exhausted, Shan Yu attacks with his huge army. As the soldiers march up a mountain pass, they are ambushed by the Huns. Mulan cleverly uses the last Huolongchushui cannon to cause an avalanche, which buries the entire Hun army. Shan Yu is himself buried in the resultant avalanche. Mulan and Khan risk their own lives to save Li Shang from being swept away in the avalanche. Li Shang's soldiers survive by hiding behind a rock and the avalanche tides over it. Angered, Shan Yu wounds Mulan during the battle, and her deception is revealed to Li Shang when the wound is bandaged. Instead of executing Mulan as the law requires, Li Shang spares her life (he says that his debt to her repaid by sparing her life, in exchanging for saving his) and expels her from the army. Mulan is left behind as the other soldiers depart for the Imperial City to report the Huns' defeat. Mulan miserably tells Mushu that entering the army was a mistake, and that she was fated to dishonor her family. Mushu finally admits that he was not sent by the ancestors, and that his mission was a selfish one to get his job back. Even Cri-Kee confesses that he is not a truly lucky cricket. Mushu consoles Mulan and says that things will work out. He counsels her to return him and face her father. However, Shan Yu and several of his warriors have survived, and Mulan sees them heading towards the city. In the city, Captain Shang and his troops are being hailed as heroes for defeating the Huns. Though surrounded by cheering citizens, Shang, Yao, Ling, and Chein-Po are noticeably dejected. Mulan enters the city and warns Li Shang, but he ignores her. Mulan begs the other citizens to take notice of the danger, but they all ignore Mulan as she is a girl. The Huns then secretly enter the city (being part of the victory parade), capture the Emperor and seize the palace. Knowing of Mulan's knack for creative problem-solving, Shang, Yao, Ling, and Chien-Po turn to her for a rescue plan. With all except Shang disguising themselves as concubines, they infiltrate the palace and attack the Huns guarding the chamber into which the Emperor was taken. Shan Yu threatens to kill the Emperor if he refuses to bow to him and accept him as the new leader of China. The Emperor stoically refuses and Shan Yu prepares to strike, but Shang leaps into action just in time. As Shang and Shan Yu battle, Chien-Po carries the Emperor to safety. Mulan then attracts Shan Yu's attention by proving herself to be the soldier who started the avalanche, luring him to the roof of the palace for a final fight. Mushu, armed with an enormous firework rocket, launches himself at Shan Yu. As the Hun leader is blasted to smithereens in a colorful display, Mulan and Mushu drop to safety on the palace steps. As the chaos subsides, Chi Fu berates Mulan for her actions. Shang angrily defends her until the Emperor appears. He explains to Mulan that, despite her fraud, she has saved the entire nation of China. In the ultimate display of respect, the Emperor bows to Mulan, as do the countless people in the attending crowd. He then offers Mulan a place in his council (to the shock of Chi Fu), but Mulan respectfully declines and expresses her wish to return home. The Emperor gives her his medallion and Shan Yu's sword as gifts to honor the Fa family. Back at the Fa estate, Fa Zhou is overjoyed at the return of his daughter. Though Mulan presents him with the Emperor's crest and the sword of Shan Yu, he casts the priceless gifts aside and embraces her, assuring her that she herself is the greatest honor to their family. Captain Shang arrives soon afterward, returning the helmet that Mulan left behind, and awkwardly but happily accepts Mulan's invitation to stay for dinner. Mushu, at last, is restored to guardian status in the family temple. Mulan thanks him for his help in her adventurous plan, and the ancestors celebrate that the Fa family is complete again.

Lance Perkins (Eddie Murphy) is hosting an exercise program on TV for overweight people. At the Wellman College, thousands of hamsters are overrunning the entire campus, causing general chaos. This is due to the obese, yet loving and kind-heart, Professor Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy) accidentally releasing them by grazing the switch that opens the hamster's cages. The problem having been contained, Sherman is given an update by his assistant, Jason (John Ales), about their latest project an experimental formula that reconstructs the DNA of an obese person to make weight-loss easy. It seems that their fattest hamster, Shelley, has lost 3 ounces, proving that the serum works. Jason suggests increasing the amount Shelley is fed, but the ever-kindly Sherman argues against it, saying it could be dangerous. He then has an unpleasant meeting with Dean Richmond (Larry Miller). The Dean tells him that the incident with the hamsters has cost the science department most of its funding. Harlan Hartley (James Coburn) is the school's last remaining wealthy alumnus and is planning to award a $10 million grant to the college. After class, Sherman meets and instantly falls in love with Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett), a chemistry graduate student who is a big fan of his work. Sherman had dinner with his obese, impolite family including father Cletus, mother Anna Pearl Jensen-Klump, Anna's mother Ida Mae Jensen and Sherman's older brother Ernie (all of whom are also portrayed by Murphy). After noticing that he's taking very small amounts of food from the table, Sherman reveals that he's trying to watch his weight and avoid the calories. His father, Cletus, scoffs him, believing that there's nothing wrong with being fat and that while Sherman can do whatever he can, he'll never get rid of his fat. After his mother, Anna, brings up Colon Cleansing she saw about on T.V., Cletus starts his habit of randomly passing gas, much to the humor of Ernie Sr. and Jr., but to the disgust of Sherman, Grandma, and Anna. Sherman is hurt by the comments Cletus makes, but Anna, tells him that he is "beautiful inside and out," saying that he can do anything if he just believes in himself. This prompts Sherman to attempt to ask Carla out on a date, which she accepts, much to his surprise. While watching Lance Perkins on TV giving one his speeches of motivation, Sherman falls asleep and dreams he is making out with Carla on a beach, but she gets buried in the sand by his weight. Sherman is motivated, full of energy, and is determined to lose some weight. A Rocky-style montage ensues, showing Sherman trying various methods to get fit before the big date. At the date, it begins well with Carla showing admiration for Sherman's work, but Sherman falls victim to the club's wicked comic Reggie Warrington (Dave Chappelle), who attacks him with cruel jokes about his obesity. Back at Carla's home with tears in his eyes, a deeply hurt and humiliated Sherman says goodbye to his date. Carla insults Reggie for what he did to him and tells Sherman that he is brilliant. Sherman tells her to have a pleasant evening and shakes her hand. At home, completely depressed, he has a nightmare in which he becomes a giant with Reggie being present insulting him again, his mother offering him fried chicken, and his father supporting his fat weight. He lays waste to the city with just a single fart, which is then accidentally lit on fire. When he awakens, he yields to the temptation to try the serum on himself. It works, as he loses 250 pounds in seconds. Overwhelmed he goes out and buys many normal size clothing (mainly spandex) as a celebration. He initially celebrates the weight loss but later finds the effects of the serum are only temporary. Dubbing himself Buddy Love (Eddie Murphy), he invites Carla out on a date at the same club again while the serum begins to wear off. Carla later tells Sherman about Buddy and Sherman encourages her to go out with him. Reggie is present again, and Buddy takes revenge and heckles him mercilessly largely by targeting Reggie's "mama" with fat jokes similar to the ones Reggie pelted him with. During this Buddy develops a personality of his own as the high testosterone levels causes him to be overly assertive and confident. Finally angered, Reggie tries challenging Buddy to a Karate match, but he is once again overpowered as he performs Minnie Riperton's 1975 hit Lovin' You on the piano for Carla, and forces Reggie to perform her signature high-pitched squeal. Buddy then proceeds to stuff Reggie into the piano. Sherman's "Buddy" persona starts to develop an independent personality due to the heightened testosterone levels of the transformation, gradually changing from his regular good-nature self to perverted, arrogant and cruel. This transformation is seen by Sherman's lab assistant, Jason. He gives a waiter a credit card to pay for the meal. Buddy and Carla then share a kiss. Immediately after, the serum begins to wear off and Buddy makes a quick exit, attributing it to an allergic reaction to Carla's lipstick (the 'bulking up' beginning with his lower lip, and his midsection begins to swell up). Jason happens to be at the bar and notes that the card Buddy is using belongs to Sherman. He follows Buddy into the sports car to confront him, only to learn Sherman's secret when he discovers him in mid-transformation, culminating in Sherman's having to be cut out of the car when he becomes too big to use the door. The next morning, Sherman is very late for a class and his students have all left. The Dean Richmond ((Larry Miller), however, is there and he confronts Sherman about the sports car, which Buddy bought on Sherman's faculty account. The Dean threatens to strangle Sherman and asks him to meet Hartley (James Coburn) at a hotel restaurant called The Ritz to describe the weight-loss serum. Later, in the lab, Jason tells Sherman that he can't control Buddy, whose testosterone levels keep rising per transformation, as Buddy acted the exact opposite of who Sherman, and Buddy is now becoming an independent personality instead of a thin Sherman. Later, Carla talks to Sherman about her date with Buddy and Sherman takes the opportunity to ask Carla to dinner with his family, who promptly embarrass him by making various suggestive comments about their relationship, his grandmother especially pushing the question on whether or not they're having relations, and that there's nothing wrong to admitting if they are, calling it a beautiful thing. Cletus farts again. His confidence low and, after Carla mentions that she would like the opportunity to get to know the caring person she sometimes sees in Buddy's eyes, he uses the serum again. Sherman arrives at The Ritz as Buddy Love with Carla. When the dean spots him, Carla asks Buddy if he will take Sherman's place. With the Dean desperate to get the grant, he allows Buddy to talk to Hartley. He does, and he takes all the credit of his work to Hartley much to Carla's shock and outrage. Hartley and the dean are very impressed with his work, and the dean invites him to the alumni ball. Carla catches Buddy flirting with three women and dumps him out of disgust. Undaunted, he throws a loud party at Sherman's house that night, burning all the health food products in the fridge. Having transformed back to his normal self during the night, Sherman awakens to find himself surrounded by strange women. He has no memory of the previous night and is stunned to find the whole house in disarray. Carla arrives shortly thereafter to tell Sherman that she has left Buddy and to apologize about her encouraging Buddy to talk to Hartley. Carla finds the reverted Sherman with the women and breaks off their friendship as well. To add to Sherman's problems as he chases after her, he finds an eviction notice taped to his front door by his unseen grouchy downstairs neighbor and landlord, Mr. Wilson, owing to all the noise Buddy and the party had made during the night. After the falling out with Carla and Richmond gleefully telling Sherman that Buddy will be taking his place at the Alumni Ball, which means that Sherman is effectively fired from his job. At home, depressed, Sherman accidentally activates the VCR, where Buddy has left a message taunting Sherman and encouraging him to take the serum once again. This inspires Sherman to take his life back, resolved to prove that he can defeat Buddy. Sherman, having had enough of his alter ego, destroys all of the serum samples. However, Buddy, having anticipated this, has laced a sample of the serum in one of Sherman's diet shake cans, which Sherman drinks, causing him to transform into Buddy again. Jason that he has calculated that if he drinks 500 ml of the serum, he will have enough cellular stability to be thin forever, thus "killing" Sherman. However, he cannot drink all of that serum at once, as it would (literally) kill Sherman and therefore Buddy, too. Buddy, however, has a plan to drink 250 ml of the serum while still in the lab and the other 250 at the alumni ball. Sherman's young assistant Jason (John Ales) tries to stop him from going to the ball, but Buddy knocks him out and departs. At the ball, Buddy demonstrates the effects of the serum to the audience, but Jason arrives in time, as he has found out that Buddy's testosterone levels are at a lethally high 60,000%. Buddy plans to drink the serum to get rid of Sherman permanently, resulting in a fight between the two identities. The two of them get into a brief fist fight, but Sherman begins to fight Buddy from within. Sherman eventually transforms into his regular self and tells the alumni that he was wrong for what he did, that Buddy was who he thought he (and everybody else) wanted him to be, and that he should accept himself for who he is. As he leaves, Carla stops him and asks why he lied. He says he did not believe that she would accept him, but she says it doesn't matter if he is overweight or not. Carla forgives Sherman and invites him to dance with her. Jason presents Sherman with a tuxedo that will fit him. Richmond rehires Sherman and Hartley, impressed by Sherman's brilliance and genuine nature, donates the grant to Wellman. Sherman's mother cheers him on as he dances with Carla.
