Twenty years ago, Angar Chand (Amrish Puri) lived a wealthy lifestyle in a small town in India along with his wife, Parvati, and four sons, Balram (Jackie Shroff), Kishan (Paresh Rawal), Shakti (Arbaaz Khan) and Jai (Akshaye Khanna). Since Balram is of marriageable age, he arranges his marriage with the daughter Dhamini of Laxmi Devi (Lakshmi). Dhamini used to love Balram. Laxmi decides to oppose this marriage. During the wedding ceremony, Laxmi Devi and her sons, Surajbhan (Akhilendra Mishra), and Pratap (Deep Dhillon) forcibly take away their sister from the wedding pyre. Laxmi's husband shoots at Balram, but accidentally kill Parvati. They subsequently get Dhamini married to Kashinath (Shakti Kapoor). An enraged Angar hacks Laxmi's husband to death, is arrested and sentenced to 14 years in prison. When he returns, he makes it clear that women will not be permitted in his house, posting a sign on the front gate, and forbids his sons to ever marry. Advocate Milind Sharma (Asrani) is Angar's lawyer. Angar will take up any issue for the villagers if it against Laxmi's interests. The 4 sons are now settled in their businesses (and Jai studies in law college), but are summoned to the village by Angar, whenever he needs them. 6 years later, Dhamini's daughter Anjali is in college with Jai, Angar's youngest son. Lucky (Arshad Warsi) is Jai's best friend in college. Surya is married to Ramila (Upasana Singh) and Pratap is married to Raakhi (Ada Puri). Angar learns Anjali (Kareena Kapoor) will marry the state's Home Minister. Due to the impending marriage, Anjali quits her law studies midway. Still having a grudge against women, Angar breaks the wedding by political pressure. Angar had kept 10 MLAs under his control and had threatened the Home Minister to refuse the wedding else Angar would topple the government and throw him out of a job. Dhamini had since passed away and hence Laxmi had spared no expense for Anjali's wedding. Laxmi was livid at the humiliation and only her 3rd son Veer was able to calm her down and bring the situation under control. Laxmi's Advocate Namdev tells her that Angar's family is strong and together since they do not have woman among them. He says that a woman is a sure fire way to divide the family. Angar tells Milind that he is not willing to forget the past and will only be at peace when Laxmi and her 2 sons who killed Parvati, are dead. Anjali is Laxmi's granddaughter. Jai humiliates Anjali when she returns to Uday Pratap Law College after her failed engagement. Anjali returns home livid with anger and rage. Suraj, Pratap and Veer want to avenge Anjali's honor by attacking Angar's home. Laxmi convinces Anjali to trick Jai into falling in love with her to cause a rift in the family. Jai meets with Anjali, who openly admits that she is attracted to him. Jai, at first rejects her and is even hostile to her, then decides to teach her and her family a lesson. Lucky makes Jai realize that pretending to be in love with Anjali would be a great way to humiliate her family. Both feign their love for each other. Veer comes to college and finds Anjali with Jai. He proceeds to beat up Jai, when Anjali intervenes and explains that she is doing this on Laxmi's bidding. Jai's brothers find out about the fight and come to college. They want to know who hit Jai and find that it was Veer. Jai manages to convince them that he will deal with the situation in his own way. Subsequently Anjali admits that she wanted to come close to Jai to extract vengeance, as well as Jai admitting his agenda. Both go their separate ways but find that they are indeed in love with each other. Lucky tells Jai to marry Anjali and to run with her to Dubai. Anjali leaves college as she does not want to admit her feelings to Jai, but Jai follows her to her village Anpara and meets her inside her house by hoodwinking her family. They both agree that they love each other and want to get married. In order to get wed, Jai must first convince his elder brothers to get married albeit in vain as none of them even want to consider this option. Then Lucky, Jai's friend, finds out that Kishan, a seemingly celibate Bhagwan Hanuman's devotee, is leading a dual life as Murari, who has been married to a woman, Gopi (Farha Naaz), from Gangapur, for 7 years and has two children, a son and a daughter. When Angar finds out he kicks Kishan and Jai out of his house. A marriage is finalized with Laxmi's Advocate Namdev Mishra's (Manoj Joshi) son Dr. Satyendra "Sattu" Mishra (Sharad Kelkar) for Anjali, but after Jai and Anjali acknowledge their love for each other to her family, Pratap and Surajbhan approach Angar to help them stop Jai from disrupting this marriage on one hand, while Laxmi tells Jai to marry Anjali - setting off confrontations between the estranged sons and father. Jai, Kishan and his wife Gopi, and Lucky sneak into the wedding festival with the help of Anjali's uncle Veeru/Veer (Suniel Shetty). Jai is dressed as the bridegroom and successfully completes the wedding ceremony. Once Laxmi recognizes Jai in disguise, she confronts Angar to cut his own son's throat. Jai tells his father he won't go through with the wedding without his approval. Balram the oldest of the brothers finally tells Jai to place the wedding necklace on Anjali's neck which finalizes the wedding. The necklace is grabbed from Jai's hands and a race goes throughout the wedding hall chasing Jai to stop him, but in the end, Jai succeeds, and the marriage is completed. Anjali asks her grandmother to stop the feud their families and Jai asks his father for forgiveness. Angar leaves the wedding and contemplates all his son's actions on the way home. All brothers and the two wives arrive and the gate. Angar looks at his sons and takes the sign off the gate and finally welcomes women back into his family.

Sultan is the Chief of Mujahd-E-Kashmir Front, and he deputes dreaded terrorist Mohammed Jalaudin Ghaznavi to abduct tourists in Mahabaleshwar and hold them for ransom. This ploy fails due to the timely action of Major Abdul Hamid of the National Security Guard, who not only saves the hostages, but also apprehends Ghaznavi. While being held in a cell, Ghaznavi attempts to negotiate his release with Home Minister Mahendra Suryavanshi to no avail. His comrades, led by Shabbir Khan and Aslam Marzban, abduct Suryavanshi's wife, Rukmani, who is the Principal of St. Mark's Sr. Secondary School, along with her son, Chaitanya; his girlfriend, Sapna, and a bus-load of students. Their demands are to ensure to release of Ghaznavi and others as well as free Kashmir from India. Abdul is once again deputed to deal with Shabbir, but ends up becoming their captive. The Nanda family's world gets turned upside down when Nisha and then Vijay pass away suddenly, leaving the family devastated. Then Yashpal, too, suddenly passes away. A village school-teacher gets in disputes with his step-brother and the Police. Teacher Tulsiram is married to Saraswati and has two step-brothers, Advocate Rajaram, and Shankar who is uneducated. When Rajaram returns, Tulsiram wants him to get married to Bindiya, the daughter of Thakur Narayandas, and is displeased when he finds that Rajaram has married Sheena, the daughter of wealthy Advocate Surendranath. Narayandas gets upset after Tulsiram attempts to get Shankar married to Bindiya, and he gives Tulsiram an ultimatum - get Rajaram to marry his daughter - or he will forcibly take over their land and house, which have been mortgaged with him to pay for Rajaram's education. Then Tulsiram gets arrested on charges of Fraud, Theft and Cheating. Shortly thereafter Shankar, too, is arrested for abducting Bindiya and holding her hostage. The Zamindar passes away, and his lecherous, womanizing, and alcoholic son views this plot, and describes it as heavenly, and wants it at any cost. Bansiram refuses to sell, and the Zamindar's son wants it by hook or by crook. Bansiram appeals to the British for protection, which they provide, and Bansiram is thus able to save his property. Shortly thereafter the Zamindar's son passes away, and his look-alike son, Devraj comes to take-over the estate. Devraj does not consider taking-over Bansiram's land as a priority, and years go by. The Zamindar's soul, unable to complete it's task during this life-time, wonders around in anguish and pain - waiting. When Devraj finally goes to see Bansiram, he finds an elderly semi-senile man, who has a grandson, Chotu, who wants to build a business on the land to sell alcohol, and Devraj decides to take advantage of this situation with unpredictable results. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

After idealist Shashi takes a stand against traditional marriage dowries, angry elders vow to destroy the young man and his family. Shashi, Akbar and a group of young people pledge never to give nor receive dowry. Acting against his mother's wishes, Shashi marries Sugandha Srivastav, and does not accept any dowry. He arranges his sister's, Rama's marriage with Ravi Verma, the son of Goverdhan and Shakuntala. Goverdhan and Shakuntala did not get any dowry, and are quite upset, though Ravi is happy. Both want Ravi to re-marry, so that they can get dowry. They send Ravi away, and Goverdhan plans to accidentally kill Rama, but things go wrong, and instead Shakuntala gets badly burned, and has to be hospitalized. Taking this opportunity, Goverdhan blames Rama for attempting to kill Shakuntala, and has her arrested. For years powerful landlords have held sway over the poor illiterate farmers, keeping them impoverished, making them work as bonded laborers for paltry loans they had taken years ago, but which now have ballooned with the interest charged on the principal. One such story is of Mukhiya Hardayal, who is on the Panchayat, and is opposed to the cruel practices of Thakur Sher Bahadur Singh. When Hardayal's wife, Krishna, passes away while delivering their second son, Karamveer, he begins to hate, treat him contemptuously, generally ignore him and holds him responsible for his wife's death. Hardayal spends all his love for his elder son, Suraj, who does live up to his father's expectations and excel in his studies, so much so that the Thakur himself loans some money to Hardayal so that Suraj can further his studies in Bombay. After Suraj leaves, Hardayal finds himself enmeshed in the Thakur's loan, unable to re-pay it with the interest, he is severely whipped and made to work as a bonded laborer. Fifteen years later, the work and the beatings have taken their toll on Hardayal, and his spine is fractured beyond repair. Suraj returns home, finds the plight of his father, confronts Thakur, who in turn offers money so that Suraj can go abroad to further his studies. A grateful Hardayal accepts this offer - only to find out that this was another ploy of the wily Thakur to separate Suraj from his family, make Karamveer and Hardayal his laborers. Hardayal continues to work for the Thakur, hoping that one day Suraj will return and all his troubles will be over. What Hardayal does not know that Suraj may never return home, as he has been apprehended with smuggling drugs - and it looks like the Thakur will continue to have his way with Hardayal and the rest of the villagers.

Two petty thieves who hate each other escape from police custody while being chained together and go on the run. Petty-thieves and con-men, Manu and Kanu are rivals only to find themselves united when they are framed for the murder of police inspector, Amar Sinha. Their quest leads them to find out that the perpetrators of the crime are their one-time employer, a gangster named K.K and his son, Bichhoo where-by their tasks involve making this known to the relevant authorities in order to clear their names. —gavin (racktoo@hotmail.com) Manu and Kanu are two con-men and petty thieves who work alone and are not known to one another. They individually decide to work for underground criminal Don "K.K.", and K.K. accepts them. This does not auger well with Bichoo, K.K.'s son, who dislikes them as he had physical disputes with them in the past. When both are assigned work, Bichoo makes an anonymous call to the police, and both are arrested, held in a cell, chained to each other. They are then transported to the Court, they escape, still chained to each other. It is then the underworld and the general community in India is shocked when photographs of both the escapees are flashed across television sets that they are responsible for killing a Police Inspector named Amar Sinha, and that the police have issued shoot-at-sight orders for both of them. Kimtilal, a deeply corrupt person, bribes everyone to get his work done. However, Kamal, his son, grows up to be an honourable police officer and is disappointed to learn about his father's crimes. In modern secular India corruption, nepotism, caste, and favoritism has taken root all the way from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, sparing no one in it's wake. Bombay Municipal Corporation's employee Kimtilal is one such person who had to pay a bribe to a gynecologist so that his wife, Shanti, can give premature birth to their son, Kamal. When Kamal grew up, Kimtilal had to pay another bribe in the form of a donation to a school for admitting him. Then he had to pay another bribe so that his son could successfully pass his college examination, and go on to join the Bombay Police Force. Finally, he withheld an important municipal license for businessman Sampat, in order to get his consent to marry his advocate daughter, Kamini, with his son. Kimtilal's story does not end here for he goes on taking bribes after bribes and it has now become a part of his life. Then a building that was supposed to have been built with only six stories is illegally constructed with ten, collapses leading to hundreds of casualties. When Kamal finds out about his father's involvement he is ashamed, arrests his father, and has him tried in Court. Kimtilal has only the following advise for his son. "When a honest man is tried in Court, he may get the maximum sentence possible, no one will come to his aid, but when a dishonest man is tried, he will have several supporters and never even be found guilty". The Saxena's family consists of Chief Engineer Vinay Saxena, his wife, a daughter, Pooja and his younger brother, Shankar. Shankar is a CBI officer a fact that is known to his family members only recently; meanwhile Vinay is approached by a corrupt builder, Shaadilal who attempts to bribe him to pass an illegal tender. But Vinay refuses to accept the bribe forcing Shaadilal to adopt other means of getting the job done. Meanwhile Vinay hopes to get his daughter marry to his personal assistant, Deepak Malhotra. Ironically Vinay is once again approached by Shaadilal who confides to him that Deepak is behind the crime of arranging the passing of the illegal tenders. Unfortunately both Deepak and Vinay gets fired from their job. The same night Shankar red-handily catches Deepak committing a murder, arrests him and logged him in a cell; then Shankar goes home to hear that his niece, Pooja is pregnant with Deepak's child only to arrange the marriage of Pooja and Deepak. In the midst of the wedding Shankar is forced to arrest his brother, Vinay; unable to bear this Deepak decides to go about a quest that will provide evidences to prove Vinay's innocence only to be killed. And to make matters worse, Shankar too is aware of Deepak - not as a groom for his niece, but as a suspect for murder!! But before he could arrest Deepak, he must execute a warrant for the arrest of none other than Vinay himself. Dhanraj (Kader Khan) is a mild-mannered man who is married to a wealthy, petty-minded, and controlling wife (Shashikala). Dhanraj has two sons and a daughter. Uma prefers to live with her mother instead of her husband's residence. Mrs. Dhanraj wants Amar to marry a very rich girl so that she can accumulate more wealth through a large dowry. Ram finds that his brother Amar and his wife Seeta are very close, and starts suspecting them of having an affair with each other, he makes observations but is not ready to confront anyone. Marte Dam Tak a 1987 Indian Hindi film, directed by Mehul Kumar. The film stars Govinda, Raaj Kumar and Farha in lead roles. The film had musical score by Ravindra Jain. Sub-Inspector Rane is a honest and diligent Police Officer. He comes to know that a gangster by the name of P.C. Mathur is behind numerous criminal dealings and gets a warrant for his arrest. Before he could arrest Mathur, he himself gets arrested for murder, is tried in Court, and sentenced to seven years in prison. After the end of his prison term, Rane becomes an underworld figure known as Rana, and his main motive is to locate Mathur at any cost and kill him. But the wily Mathur manages to elude him. Then Rana hires a young man named Jai to kill Mathur. Jai accepts this assignment, but ends up killing another man by the same name. Jai decides to give him a life of crime so that he can atone this killing by looking after the blind daughter, Rajni, and widow of Mathur, leaving Rana alone to fend himself against Mathur and his growing gang of criminal elements, including Sonu, Ricku, and Daulat alias D.K..
