In Ancient Egypt, Ema 'Emmy' Hesire, a young princess, is hiding from her mother inside a pyramid disguised as a mummy. Emmy is against her arranged marriage, and prays to the gods to be united with her true love in the future. Strangely, Emmy suddenly vanishes before her mother's eyes. In present-day Philadelphia, Jonathan Switcher is a young artist working in a mannequin factory. Jonathan takes his time perfecting one he is working on, which angers his boss, who claims he needs to be working on quantity than quality. After protesting, Jonathan is fired and attempts to find other jobs, but his artistic passion also gets him terminated from most of them. One evening, after his motorcycle breaks down in the rain, he passes by some windows being property of the department store Prince & Company and is surprised to see his mannequin in the window. The next morning, Jonathan returns to the store and ends up saving the life of its owner, Claire Timkin, from her own fallen shop sign. Claire becomes very grateful and offers to find Jonathan a position in the department store. Viewed with suspicion by the security guard, Captain Felix Maxwell, Jonathan works with and befriends flamboyant Hollywood Montrose, the store's chief window dresser. Jonathan eventually finds the mannequin he created and is surprised when it comes to life with Emmy's spirit, when he is alone. She explains she has existed for centuries as a muse, sometimes possessing the works of an artist she admires and inspires. Emmy then explains the gods allow her life when she is alone with Jonathan, who is unsure once he is dreaming or has gone insane. The next morning, Jonathan wakes up in a newly created window display advertising tennis equipment and sportswear, unsure once he dreamed all this or not. The window display begins to attract massive attention, bringing shoppers back to Prince & Company. The landmark store has been losing shoppers to a newer, trendier department store called Illustra located across the street. Prince & Company's conniving manager, Daryl Richards, is secretly being paid by Illustra's owner, B.J. Wert, to convince Claire to sell her store to him. However, after the recent floor traffic seen on account of Jonathan's window display, Claire feels that Jonathan could be the key to saving her store. Much to Richards' disgust, the store's board members promote Jonathan to visual merchandising. Over the next several weeks, Jonathan and Emmy continue their secret romance and keep improving the creativity of the store's window displays, which bring a tremendous number of customers and profits for the store. Jonathan soon receives a call from his former girlfriend, Roxie Shield, who works for Illustra. Jonathan meets her for lunch at a French restaurant, where Roxie says that Illustra wants him to be their chief window dresser. Jonathan explains that he cannot do this, considering that he likes working at Prince & Company, as well as working with a very beautiful woman there, enraging Roxie, causing her and another co-worker to sneak into Prince & Company after hours to take pictures of Jonathan and his supposed girlfriend. However, they are shocked when they see what appears to be Jonathan getting intimate with a mannequin. Jonathan's window designs continue to be the talk of the town and business continues to bloom at Prince & Company, leaving B.J. seething and threatening to fire most of his workers once his store's sales do not improve. Claire has been very impressed with Jonathan's work and soon after promotes him to vice president of the department store, after she fires Richards and Felix, for their accusations towards Jonathan. Meanwhile, he chooses to celebrate that evening by taking Emmy for a ride through the city on his motorcycle, despite how unusual this seems to bystanders. However, he is encountered and accosted by Roxie again, claiming he needs to seek help and begs him again to come to work at Illustra. Jonathan denies again, claiming that he has people at Prince & Company who care about him and someone who makes him feel special. Richards and Felix, who are sitting in a car around the corner of the store, plan to go into steal Emmy, but sees her and Jonathan speeding past on the motorcycle. Richards and Felix give chase, with their car getting stuck in a narrow alleyway. Later that evening, Jonathan and Emmy enjoy their time alone in the store, before Emmy leaves his side to take her place in one of the windows. However, Richards and Felix have also come back to the store to steal Emmy, only are unsure which mannequin is her. Being desperate, they simply steal every one from the display room, unaware they are being watched by security cameras. Jonathan wakes up the next morning and is informed of this design by Hollywood while the customers applaud him. Jonathan immediately suspects Illustra's workers are behind this, and he and Hollywood drive over there. Jonathan confronts Richards, Roxie and B.J., demanding to know where Emmy is in the store. Roxie storms out, with Jonathan following her, while being pursued by the store's security guards including Felix, Richards and B.J. Roxie runs into the storeroom and loads the female mannequins into a large trash compactor, then is knocked out by falling debris. As Hollywood holds back the pursuers with a fire hose, Jonathan goes into the room and a janitor watches Jonathan jump onto the compactor's conveyor belt to save Emmy slowly moving to her doom. Jonathan grabs her and Emmy comes to life, grabbing his arm, as he pulls her out and the janitor shuts down the compactor. Once safe, Emmy realizes she is alive again and now free from her ancient curse, she thanks the gods for uniting her with her true love and Jonathan vows to love her forever. While the janitor wonders once other mannequins will come to life, Hollywood arrives and suddenly realizes Emmy was alive the entire time. In the aftermath, the store guards, Felix, Richards and B.J. all barge into the storeroom, along with several police officers, who B.J. orders to arrest Jonathan for trespassing, but Claire arrives to convince the officers that she has video footage of Richards and Felix sneaking into Prince & Company to steal Emmy and the officers arrest Felix, Richards and B.J., who fires Roxie as they are all hauled away. Some time later, Jonathan and Emmy are married in the store window of Prince & Company, with Claire as maid of honor and Hollywood as best man, as well as numerous pedestrians watching them exchange vows.

The Wild West goes wacko when the Greatest Fast-Drawin', Fancy-Dressin', Silver-Spurred, Geetar Playin', Singing Cowboy movie matinee idol Rex O'Herlihan hits the saddle in this cockeyed, affectionate send-up of the '40s B-movie Western. While the audience watches a black and white horse opera, a narrator's voice wonders what such a movie would be like today. Rex O'Herlihan, The Singing Cowboy, finds himself in color and enters a cliché-ridden town, in which the evil cattle baron (Andy Griffith) and the new Italian cowboys (who always wear raincoats no matter how hot it gets) join forces to get him and the sheep ranchers to leave the valley. —John Vogel <jlvogel@comcast.net> Tumblin' tumbleweeds: The Wild West goes wacko when the Greatest Fast-Drawin', Fancy-Dressin', Silver-Spurred, Geetar Playin', Singing Cowboy movie matinee idol Rex O'Herlihan (Tom Berenger) hits the saddle in Rustlers' Rhapsody, a cockeyed, affectionate send-up of the '40s B-movie Western. Classic Western stereotypes and clichés get turned on their ear when our fearless hero, fully dressed in white and atop his dancing horse Wildflower, rides into the tackiest town west of the Pecos to do good deeds and defy desperados. Written and directed by Hugh Wilson, who was responsible for the hilarious Police Academy (1984), Rustlers' Rhapsody stars Andy Griffith and Marilu Henner. —Anonymous An amusing spoof of the good 'ole westerns back in the halcyon days when all the cliches were held up as icons, this parody by Hugh Wilson works best for savvy audiences. Rex O'Herlihan (Tom Berenger) is a singing cowboy with a wardrobe straight out of the Hollywood westerns of the '40s - he worships his horse, and has a trusty sidekick too. Every town he wanders into has a sheriff on the dole, a shady cattle rancher, a prostitute with a heart of gold, an innocent young damsel, a town drunk, and the standard bad guys in black hats and long coats (Spaghetti-western style) who brutalize the poor sheep ranchers. After setting things straight in each identical town as he goes, Rex is beginning to feel like a re-run junky when he saunters into a town that is slightly different - and the parodies continue. —Anonymous

As a crime wave sweeps the city, admission to the Police Academy is opened up. Now the first cadets - a set of oddballs, eccentrics and misfits - will be let loose on the streets.

It is 1985. Police Sgt. Jack Ramsay is 35 years old; his records show he was born in 1950. He is a widower and has a 10-year-old son Bobby. He works in a large city which is never specified. Ramsay has a fear of heights, so he asked to be moved to a division called "Runaways" that deals with malfunctioning robots, who have taken over many of the jobs humans once did. Thompson is Ramsay's new partner. She has tried other jobs, including computer programmer, but none of them worked out. She is pretty but capable. On their first assignment together, Ramsay and Thompson must take a helicopter to a farm where pest-control robots are out of control. They are able to successfully capture the robots. On their second assignment, Ramsay and Thompson go to the house of a man named Johnson whose household robot has killed two people. A 10-month-old baby is alone and crying. TV crews are on the scene and Ramsay must discourage them, but one cameraman insists on going inside and gets killed before Ramsay can bring the robot under control. Johnson comes home and is very concerned about the baby but disappears before Ramsay can rescue the baby. A suspicious looking man is watching everything. Ramsay goes home to Bobby and Lois, the robot who takes care of the house and Bobby. Bobby, who should be in bed, is very excited about what he has just seen happen on TV, and he likes Thompson, who is already showing signs of being a partner to Ramsay in more than one way. Lois makes sure Bobby goes to bed and asks if Thompson needs to be entered into her list of information, which of course she does. On another day, Ramsay and Thompson go out on another assignment, this one a tall building under construction where a robot is throwing items off the building. Ramsay gives this job to Thompson and he stays on the ground. Johnson is discovered staying in a hotel room, and Ramsay and Thompson go to pick him up. Johnson fears for his life, with good reason. His company developed a new technology that someone called Dr. Luther wants to use to commit crimes. Just before Ramsay can take Johnson to the station, he takes off running and Ramsay chases him. Dr. Luther joins the chase and starts firing bullets at Johnson, only these are not ordinary bullets. They an go around corners and dodge obstacles and have the ability to track their target. After several attempts, Johnson is killed. Although it is not Ramsay's department, he continues to investigate the case and discovers Dr. Luther in a room at the Ritz hotel. There is gunfire and several officers are killed. TV crews are there as well. Despite his fear of heights, Ramsay must go to the roof to rescue a girl being held by Dr. Luther. Because of all the chaos and the deaths, and the fact it wasn't his department, Ramsay is reprimanded by his Chief. There is an incident at the company where Johnson worked, and secretary Jackie is being held prisoner by one of the robots. Ramsay rescues Jackie and destroys the robot in the process, which the security guard says wasn't necessary. Ramsay takes Jackie and offers her protection. She has the templates necessary for the chips needed for Dr. Luther's special bullets, and Dr. Luther still wants them. This leads to a car chase where special robots that can track Jackie start shooting. Eventually Ramsay and Jackie have to change cars; a robot is driving theirs and Thompson is in the other. As soon as the transfer is made the car they were in is blown up. At a nice restaurant with outdoor seating Dr. Luther demands Jackie be turned over to him. Jackie leaves part of what he wants behind as insurance, but he kills her when he realizes he doesn't have everything. Dr. Luther escapes and ends up at Ramsay's precinct dressed as a cop, and no one notices. He has an eyeball which is capable of passing a retinal scan that is required to sign in to Ramsay's computer. Ramsay later sees information about him on the screen, and he knows someone knows where he lives. He goes home and discovers Lois seriously damaged and Bobby missing. After fixing Lois, Ramsay goes to a tall building under construction where Bobby is being held. After going up in the elevator, Ramsay demands Bobby be released and then hands over the templates. Dr. Luthor explains that as soon as Bobby gets off the elevator, robots called spiders will kill him because there can be no witnesses. Thompson has followed Ramsay and rescues Bobby before anything can happen to him, but Ramsay experiences a series of terrifying events before he can successfully trick Dr. Luther into the trap his set for Bobby, leading to Dr. Luther's death. At the end of the movie it is clear Ramsay and Thompson are romantic partners.
