The film opens with a man named Isaac (Damien Leake) going for a job from the city to a suburban neighborhood. He gets hit by a pick-up truck on the way. The driver steps out of the car and walks over to Isaac and stomps his head in. Sometime later, Isaac's estranged daughter Shaun Russell (Gabrielle Union) is driving to Isaac's old home with her kids Jasmine (Ajiona Alexus) and Glover (Seth Carr) in order to settle the estate and sell the house. Upon arriving to the house, Glover finds security cameras in the basement, along with the remote that controls everything in the house. Hours later, as Shaun is ordering pizza, four criminals - Peter (Mark Furze), Sam (Levi Meaden), Duncan (Richard Cabral), and leader Eddie (Billy Burke) - break into the house and take Jasmine and Glover hostage. Peter attacks Shaun outside, but she fights him off and stabs him with a broken wine glass. When she tries to get into the house, she finds Eddie standing over the kids menacingly. Peter chases after Shaun into the woods with a crowbar. She fights him and manages to knock him unconscious when he hits his head on a rock. She leaves him bound and gagged. Shaun runs back to the house to speak to Eddie on the intercom. He says they only came for the safe in the house containing $4 million. They have 90 minutes before the security company calls the police and they want to find the money immediately. Duncan is bloodthirsty and thinks they should kill everyone since they saw their faces, but Eddie is more relaxed about it. As Shaun tries to find a way inside the house, Maggie (Christa Miller), the real estate agent, comes to the house with paperwork for Shaun. She is greeted at the door by Eddie, who says that Shaun went into town for groceries. When Maggie notices Shaun's car is still there, as well as her purse, she becomes suspicious and decides to leave. Before she can get to her car, Duncan attacks her and slits her throat, which Shaun sees. Eddie and Sam chastise Duncan for this. Shaun manages to get her hands on firecrackers as she sneaks around the house to find a way in. She sets off the firecrackers and breaks the security lights. The villains try to find her, but Shaun manages to find a way in and get to the kids. She gets to Jasmine and tells her what to do so she and Glover can stay safe. With time running out, Shaun has to get out as the villains go back to the room with the kids. Jasmine tells Eddie she knows where the safe is. She leads them to a room where she pulls back a tile on the wall and the safe is revealed hidden by the closet. However, only Peter knows how to open the safe. The villains go outside as Shaun comes back with Peter and a knife held at his throat. Knowing that they need him, she demands that they let the kids come out so they can leave together and they can take the money. Eddie responds by shooting Peter dead and forcing Shaun to run back into the woods. Eddie takes a flash drive off a necklace that Peter was wearing so that they can open the safe. They then tie the kids up as Duncan starts to dump kerosene everywhere so they can light the place on fire. Shaun makes another attempt to save the kids by coming from the roof, but she is found by Duncan and Sam. After a tense moment, Shaun takes the rope she was holding and swings down to the ground after pushing Sam off the roof, where he dies after his head hits the ground. Meanwhile, Jasmine cuts herself and Glover loose. Eddie finds them, but Jasmine manages to stab him before Glover takes his gun. He fires at Eddie and misses. Shaun takes Sam's keys as the kids run out of the house. They make it to Sam's truck as Duncan walks up from behind. Shaun goes in reverse and runs Duncan over, but Eddie shoots at the truck and causes them to crash. Shaun and the kids run back to the house and lock themselves in. Soon, Shaun's husband Justin (Jason George) arrives and is attacked by Eddie. He makes his way back in the house and finds Shaun holding a lighter over the money bag after she poured kerosene on it. She knows that if Eddie kills her, she will just drop the lighter and he will lose what he came for. Eddie takes out the cartridge from the gun, and Shaun lets him take the money. However, Duncan returns and stabs Eddie to death. He goes after Shaun and threatens to rape her and Jasmine. Jasmine arrives to help her mom, but Duncan overpowers her. Shaun goes for Eddie's gun, but Duncan kicks it away. Before he can do anything else, Shaun swipes his knife and stabs him dead. The film ends as Shaun goes outside to hold Justin and their kids close as the police arrive.

Augusten discovers his homosexuality with Neil Bookman (Joseph Fiennes) another adopted son of Dr. Finch and also befriends Natalie Finch (Evan Rachel Wood) who has issues of her own. Together Augusten and Natalie develop a way of dealing with the crazy environment until they discover a way out.

The duplex belongs to Miss Benvenutti (Alice Drummond) who is an old woman and is moving out of New York as she can't handle the winters anymore. They have two weeks to come up with the rest of the money or it well be sold to a developer William Davies (Eric Stoltz). the couples have 10k in their accounts and need $20k to make the down-payment in 2 weeks. Alice decides to ask her mother (Carol Woods) for the rest of the money they need for the down payment. Ed is working the sewers one night and finds an abandoned shed with an exquisite, high class, preserved train car sitting right there. He tells Ralph that the city is going to auction the train car. Ralph has the brain wave to modify the train car and use it to give tours of New York city to tourists. Ralph and Ed decide to buy a train found below the streets of New York they end up spending most of the money ($ 3000) Ralph and Alice have saved. Ed shuts out another buyer from the auction, who was very interested in the train. Lenny (Lenny Venito) is a mechanic and tells the guys that the train car is in good shape, but it is sitting 60 feet below street levels. Once they find out how much money it is going to take to get the train out Ralph and Ed decide on a new plan to get the money back. but none of their schemes (begging, looking for coins, asking for donations dressed as the Brooklyn youth club, hip hop dancing in the streets) are big enough to earn cash that fast. Ralph and Ed had found a greyhound dog in the dumpster and decide to race the dog (after Ralph sees the dog run very fast in the park). The duo approaches the track owner Kirby (Jon Polito) who says that the weekend is the anniversary derby of the track with a prize purse of $20,000. Kirby agrees to give a time trial to Ralph and Ed's dog. He suggests that they approach Dodge (John Leguizamo), to train the dog. Dodge charges them $500 and only agrees to train the dog at night. Ralph makes a story to Alice about a job at a lodge to get out of the house at night and to go with Ed to train the dog with Dodge. Dodge has to train the dog to start running when the cages open. Despite mind tricks and all sorts the cajoling, the dog still won't budge from his starting position. Eventually the dog only chases the blue ball that Ed plays with him with on their outings to the park. Using the ball, Ralph and Ed make the dog qualify for the race in front of Kirby. Dodge gets them the paperwork for the dog for $600. Meanwhile Alice's mom gives her a check for $10K. she thinks that they already have $10K in their accounts, and that together is their deposit. But when she finds that her account is empty, she is mad at Ralph and decides to leave him. When William (who has private investigators trying to find out where the remaining $10K is coming from, as he knows that Ralph and Ed have nothing in their bank accounts) finds out they are going to make the money that way he pays off Kirby to not let the dog race. Ralph makes a speech about the down and out dumpster dog & so that gets the dog back into the race. Ed pulls out the dog's blue colored ball (with which he plays in the park) while he is in the race that could win the money and distracts the dog, and he loses. Ralph yells at Ed, which upsets Alice when she is already mad at him for spending all of their money. Ralph is by the train he had bought (burning all of his previous business invention prototypes) when he finds the card of the other man that wanted to buy the train. Ralph decides to sell the train (for $20 K) to get the money back for the duplex. Once he gets the money, he makes up with Ed and they get to the seller in time to buy the place (before it's sold to the developer). When they are all sitting down in the back yard eating, the dog brings the paper and on the front is the train Ralph sold that was in turn sold for one million dollars.

In Los Angeles, Quincy and his cousin Evan work at Spoil magazine. Quincy is an editor but Evan's job is never specified. Evan warns Quincy that Philip (known as Junior) is now in charge and plans layoffs. Philip calls Quincy to his office, but it is not to let him go. Because of Quincy's psychology degree, Philip believes Quincy is the right person to design procedures for laying people off without making them mad enough to take revenge. Quincy takes numerous books home where he is greeted by his girlfriend Helen's dog, who is still there for some reason. Quincy goes to Sig Sag to meet Helen, for their engagement party. But Helen wants to spend time apart. Quincy returns to work with a plan for firing people, and Philip hands him a list of the people to let go and tells Quincy to do it. After having to fire Sam, who thought he was coming in for a friendly chat, Quincy puts his name on the list of people to fire and walks out. Evan comes to Quincy's house because his mother was concerned about him. Quincy is a mess and so is the house. However, he has a big pile of papers on which he has attempted to write a breakup letter. That process is similar to being let go from a job. Spoil agrees to publish a book called Spoil's Breakup Handbook and before long it is climbing the newspaper's best-seller list. Quincy is making appearances at bookstores and on TV. Evan's girlfriend Nicky sees Quincy on TV while getting her hair done and realizes she wants to make a change. Afterward, she regrets what she has done. She had long hair but now looks like Halle Berry. Evan comes over but she won't let him see her so Evan goes to Quincy's house. Evan, thinking this means their relationship might be over, asks Quincy to meet with Nicky, telling him she has long hair. Quincy goes to Sig Sag where Evan and Nicky were supposed to meet but none of the girls with long hair are Nicky. But Quincy is attracted to the short-haired girl sitting next to him. Nicky has heard everything, and she decides to introduce herself as Mary. Quincy is supposed to say positive things about Evan, but he tells the truth about Evan instead, including some things that are not flattering. Quincy and Mary hit it off. Quincy tells Evan that Nicky never showed but he met a girl he likes. Also aware of Quincy's book is Rita, Philip's girlfriend. Philip wants to break up and on several occasions he and Quincy meet so Quincy can give him advice. Evan is still at Quincy's house, getting drunk and getting Helen's dog drunk. Rita shows up and, believing Evan is Quincy, says she knows Quincy is helping Philip break up with her. Rita indicates she wants a relationship with Quincy, who is a real man unlike the wimpy Philip, and when Evan wakes up he finds her phone number on the mirror. At Philip's place Rita is reading the book in the bathtub, and then the two have a conversation that doesn't go well. Evan goes to Nicky's place and when he sees her hair, says he doesn't like it. He says she stood him up but she says she didn't and that she went out with someone. Evan says he thought she wanted to break up while Nicky says she didn't want to. While massaging the flirtatious Mr. Lynch at work, Nicky tells co-worker Amy that Evan dumped her. Quincy doesn't know so Nicky continues to date him. However, when Evan asks for advice he says Nicky cut her hair. Quincy realizes Mary is Nicky but doesn't say anything. Helen is on a plane reading Quincy's book. Rita and Philip have naughty sex. After Heather Hadley's concert Nicky asks about Evan and Quincy says Evan and his girl broke up and Evan isn't happy. While Quincy and Nicky are making out, Quincy gets an angry phone call from Rita and Nicky hears the message. Believing Quincy is cheating on her, she gets mad. Quincy has no idea what the message is about. He visits her at work but is told she is not there. Evan and Rita, who still thinks he is Quincy, meet for sex. But she meets Philip in a post office since it is a public place where violence is less likely, and says she wants to get married. Quincy and Nicky meet in a park and admits who she is and Quincy says he didn't know, at first. At a surprise party for Quincy, everything goes wrong. Nicky didn't want to go but Amy insisted. Evan sees Nicky with Amy and hides. Helen is there, and she introduces herself to Nicky as Quincy's girlfriend. Then Rita also introduces herself. Evan, who now knows Quincy was dating Nicky, gets angry and leaves. Philip is in the hospital. The explanation is shown in flashbacks. As he and Rita plan for their wedding, Philip has a heart attack. When Evan and Quincy are visiting at the same time, Rita learns Evan is not Quincy but doesn't get mad. She wants to continue the relationship. Helen comes back to Quincy's place intending to resume their relationship. However, her dog now hates her. Later, she demands that Quincy have the dog put down. Quincy takes the dog to the animal shelter but is told that pugs don't usually get adopted. There are already several pugs. Quincy adopts them all and they chase Helen out of his house. Quincy wants to get back together with Nicky but learns she is taking a train to Portland. In fact, Nicky is taking Mr. Lynch on the train at the request of his daughter. Quincy narrowly misses seeing Nicky at the train station. Then he finds out what train she is on and starts chasing the train. Nicky pulls the emergency brake and the train stops, and they get on the train together, to Mr. Lynch's disappointment.

Smith is a well-educated woman who feels that when it comes to men and their tricks, she knows them all. Shante is a senior advertising executive at Parker & Long agency. Keith is an attorney and was accomplished at sports in his prime. Shante says that men stay in line during the winter as they need the "indoor activity", but every year as spring arrives, it is breakup season. This is the time of the year when women start wearing short skirts, skimpy clothes and cause men to lose their mind. Shante says that she specializes in keeping men in line, who are unable to say no. Shante says that if men act right, women will automatically give them all the love and respect that they need. Shante's girlfriend Karen (Wendy Raquel Robinson) was cheated on by her boyfriend Michael (Bobby Brown). Karen was now living with Shante, and Shante was guiding her on the next steps. Karen is a top executive at a big engineering firm. Michael was a car mechanic with crooked teeth. Karen was charmed by him and in return Karen paid for his dental work and a completely new wardrobe. Michael asked Karen to marry him, but then started to take her for granted. It was 2 years since Michael proposed marriage and was now avoiding her. Shante asked Karen to kick Michael out. Tracey (Tamala Jones) is Shante's other friend, and her man Dwain (Dondre T. Whitfield) had roving eyes. Shante asks Tracey to put a Panty in the couch (that is not her own) and pull it out in front of Dwain to check his reaction. Dwain claims that they belong to his sister, who came to do laundry. Diedre (Mo'Nique) is Shante's other friend whose boyfriend Tyrone is always borrowing money from her and losing it in gambling. Shante says that before the actual cheating there are excuses like "I was working late", "I got new underwear as the old ones were worn out", Lost ring, trying to get back in shape. Connie "Conny" Spalding (Gabrielle Union) works in the same office as Keith and is the Vice President of Marketing. Conny is drop dead gorgeous. When Keith, is caught red-handed stepping out with a coworker, Shante institutes her "Ten Day Plan" to get her man in line. Keith had told Shante that he was "working late", but Shante finds him on the dance floor with a woman Julie (Natashia Williams) at a club, where she was with her girls. Shante casually confronts Keith (without making a scene) but hides the situation from her girlfriends. She says that the girlfriends will only give her bad advice, that will shake her confidence. On the other end, Shante's boyfriend Keith is being led by his friend Tony (Anthony Anderson), who thinks he knows all the tricks that women play. Tony says that Keith went out with Julie as he wanted to have sex with her. Tony tells Keith not to call Shante first as whoever calls first, loses ground. Keith calls the next day, taking his time as Tony taught him. But Shante rushes him saying that a client is coming in and asks him to meet at dinner. At dinner, Shante is deliberately 15 mins late to build anxiety. Kieth admits that he was wrong, as guided by Tony. Shante says that she wants some time apart to test the waters. Shante now decides to punish Keith was his stray behavior. She goes shopping with her friends, while she knows that Keith is feeling miserable. Keith calls twice, and Shante screens him. Keith even gets tickets to her favorite concert, but Shante doesn't budge. As Keith is still playing it cool, Shante ups the ante by hugging an acquaintance in church, while Keith's friends are watching. The friends tell Tony about the "hug". Keith calls Shante 8 times ad she still screens him. Keith misses work and Tony realizes that Keith is now hurting. Keith goes over to Shante's place, but Shante had already anticipated this. Keith tries to seduce Shante and when she pulls back, they have an argument, and Shante ends up yelling at Keith. Now the frustration is transferred over to Shante. Keith goes dancing with Conny. It is evident that Conny is attracted to Keith and wants to have sex with him. The next evening, Shante dresses all sexy and goes over to Keith's with the excuse of returning his remaining stuff. Keith begs her to come inside. Shante gets Keith all hot and heavy and then leaves in the middle of foreplay. Tony tells Keith that now Shante has turned the tables on him, and she has the power. Tony says that Keith is now fighting for all mankind as if Shante gets away with her tricks, soon women all the world will be trying the same thing to get their men under control. Keith decides to go to a party with Conny, knowing that Shante would be there. Shante is mortified to see Keith with Conny, as she expected Keith to return to her begging for forgiveness. Shante tells Conny to back off, but she refuses and tells Shante to control her own man. Shante's girlfriends were also at the party, and they see Keith with Conny. They heighten the situation by panicking and forcing Shante to make bad decisions. To counter Keith, Shante brings her own guy named Calvin to the party. She pretends to have a flat tire and reels in a smooth looking guy. Shante spends the entire party talking to this guy and then takes him to a quiet corner of the party. Keith confronts Shante and says that she is back to playing her games. Shante ignores Keith and drops a condom from her purse, leading Keith to believes that she will have sex with Calvin. Keith tells Shante that if she leaves with Calvin, he will sleep with Conny. Shante takes a gamble and walks out, hoping that Keith will come back to her.
