During the War of 1812, Louisiana buccaneer Jean Lafitte assists the Americans in defending New Orleans against the attacking British war fleet. During the War of 1812 against the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: General Andrew Jackson has only 1,200 men left to defend New Orleans when he learns that a British fleet will arrive with 60 ships and 16,000 men to take the city. In this situation an island near the city becomes strategically important to both parties, but it's inhabited by the last big buccaneer: Jean Lafitte. Although Lafitte never attacks American ships, the governor hates him for selling merchandise without taxes--and is loved by the citizens for the same reason. When the big fight gets nearer, Lafitte is drawn between the fronts. After a disgruntled rancher and his sons rob at gun-point a rival rancher, the town forms a posse to go after the culprits but the ensuing events are muddled by unclear facts, false testimony, old scores, secrets, murder and stolen money. When the anxiously awaited posse returns with neither prisoners nor the stolen money, we learn in flashback what happened. Having been cheated by Sampson Drune, a rancher, his brother and his son have robbed him and fled. A posse led by Drune took off after them and although unwanted, the town's drunken Sheriff joins them. The Sheriff's influence on Jed, the adopted son of Drune, was the key to Jed later revealing who actually killed Drune, the robbers, and what happened to the money. —Maurice VanAuken <mvanauken@a1access.net> Complicated by flash-backs and flash-forwards, a posse of basically honest citizens track down a trio of outlaws responsible for robbing a wealthy New Mexico cattle baron, and decide to keep the recovered money for themselves. Honest Sheriff John Frazier (Broderick Crawford), an alcoholic, joins the posse and is mortally wounded during the foray and is unaware the cash has not been returned. An advocate of child rights and an opponent of the severe approach to juvenile delinquency at the time, Flanagan genuinely believes that there is no such thing as a bad boy. Starting with just a few boys in a rented house, Father Flanagan eventually establishes Boys Town on 200 acres of land 10 miles outside of Omaha, Nebraska. Much of the film focuses on Flanagan's attempts to influence one boy, Whitey Marsh, who will become a hoodlum if he doesn't change his ways. When Whitey is implicated in a bank robbery, it puts all of Boys Town at risk. Throughout it all Flanagan has to fight prejudice in those who believe delinquents should just be locked up and the never-ending shortage of money to accomplish his goals. —garykmcd

After botanist Wilfred Glendon travels to Tibet in search of a rare flower, the Mariphasa, he returns to a London haunted by murders that can only be the work of bloodthirsty werewolves. While on a botanical expedition in Tibet Dr. Wilfred Glendon is attacked in the dark by a strange animal. Returning to London, he finds himself turning nightly into a werewolf and terrorizing the city, with the only hope for curing his affliction a rare Asian flower, the Mariphasa. —Jeremy Lunt <durlinlunt@acadia.net> Dr. Wilfred Glendon returns to London with a rare flower he sought and discovered in Tibet. He also returns with the bite of a werewolf, which causes him to change into one himself during a full moon. Only the juice from his new flower can provide a temporary antidote. But the disease puts a strain on his relationship with his wife; worse, she's still in love with her old beau. Meanwhile, the flower has attracted the attention of the mysterious Dr. Yogami from Tibet. —J. Spurlin The British botanist Wilfred Glendon goes in an expedition to Tibet to search for the rare phosphorescent wolf-flower, the Mariphasa, that is located in a cursed place. While collecting the flower, Glendon is bitten by a strange creature. He returns to London and makes research with the flower. During an exposition, the mysterious Dr. Yogami tells him that there are two werewolves in London and the flower is an antidote to the lycanthropy that avoids the transformation into werewolf. Further the creature would seek out his love to kill. Glendon discovers that he has contracted the disease and when he seeks his flowers in the full moon, he finds that someone has stolen them from his laboratory. Now Glendon wants to protect his beloved wife Lisa from himself, but he begins a murder wave in London. —Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Renowned British botanist Dr. Wilfred Glendon has traveled to Tibet to obtain a specimen of a plant purported to exist, Mariphasa lumina lupina, and exist only in one valley in the Himalayas. It's name is partly because its survival is dependent upon the moon, it only blooming in moonlight. Despite locals warning him of dangers in the valley, he is able to obtain a specimen to bring back to London for research. He finds that a fellow botanist, Dr. Yogami, is also interested in obtaining a plant, specifically the bloom, for its purported medicinal properties in dealing with lycanthropy, he, to Glendon's disbelief, stating knowing two people afflicted in London. What happens and happened between the two botanists will affect Glendon's future, including with his wife, Lisa Glendon, who loves her husband but feels neglected, especially with the return into her life of childhood friend Paul Ames, who has his own romantic feelings for her. —Huggo
