Sunny Palomattam, a successful businessman in Singapore, enjoy his life with his girlfriend Sandra Valookaran. However, he is unaware that Sandra is a spy hired by his business rival Mohammed Ali. Sunny Palomattam (Mohanlal) is an established businessman in Singapore. He enjoys a flamboyant life with girlfriend Sandra Valookaran (Meena). His business rival, Mohammad Ali, was a partner who left after he was found embezzling company funds. Sunny discloses his past to Sandra: his family was a happy one, until Pappan (Rajan P. Dev) framed Sunny's father Ittichan (Madhu) in a fraud case. Shortly after, Ittichan died of a heart attack, and Sunny's engagement with fiancée Nancy (Divya Unni) is called off. Sunny flees to Mumbai, and then to Singapore with Kuruvilla's help. Later, Sunny learns that Sandra, who he plans to marry, is actually a call girl hired by Mohammad Ali, to spy on Sunny and foil his business plans.To fulfill his marriage commitment to his family, he and Sandra pretend they are still engaged when they go to visit Sunny's family in Kerala. In his hometown, he meets the old enemies who falsely accused his father of theft and thus ruined the family reputation. Sunny plans to take revenge on Pappan, Tonychan (Ganesh Kumar) and company, aided by Paily (Jagadish). In the meantime, he meets Nancy who is now married to Paulachan (Dileep), Tony Chan's younger brother. When Tony tries to sexually assault Nancy, Paulachan is humiliated and commits suicide. Mohammad Ali arrives with a gang from Singapore to reveal Sunny's "false marriage" ploy in an attempt to destroy him. Sunny pleads with Mohammad Ali to forget everything so that he can live a happy life and offers all his assets to Mohammad Ali, but Mohammad Ali has a change of heart and leaves Sunny and his family alone. In the end Sunny and Sandra appear with a happy family.

The film focuses on bullock cart driver Khader (Mammootty), a retired Corporal and World War I veteran, and Unni Krishnan (Suresh Gopi), a hardline nationalist revolutionary from a family of Hindu landlords. Both men join the brigade of Variyan Kunnathu Kunjahammed Haji (T. G. Ravi), one of the prominent leaders of the 1921 Uprising. The plot gradually introduces a variety of characters, representing the Malabar society of the 1920s. The film also touches various social dilemmas which led to the 1921 Uprising, the atrocities committed by the British army during the events and the eventual collapse of the rebel unity and organisation.

Babu who stayed in a nearby hostel takes a fancy to Raji and she begins to visit him almost regularly. Babu's friend Jayan, a drunkard, attempts to approach Raji but is prevented by Babu. News spreads about Babu's relationship with Raji. Sudhakaran is a regular visitor to his teacher Chandran's room. One day a beggar steals Chandran's wrist watch through an open window. Sudhakaran is arrested by the police. He is beaten up by the cops. Sudhakaran dies after his release from police custody. The real thief is arrested and Chandran repents for what he had done. But Raji refuses to pardon him and rejects the support offered by him. Karunakaran (Bahadur) decides to conduct the marriage of his son Babu with Radha (Usha Rani), daughter of Damodaran (Sankaradi) and brother of his wife Lakshmi (Kaviyoor Ponnamma). Karunakaran, accompanied by Damodaran and Radha, reach Babu's hostel and are shocked to see Raji in his room. They came to know about Babu's relations with Raji. Radha gets married to another man. Jayan dies of liver related complications. On his death bed he advises Babu not to abandon Raji whose love for him is pure, though 'impure' in the eyes of the society. Raji gets gang raped but Chandran's timely help saves her life. Lakshmi comes to the town to meet Babu and Raji. She takes pity on Raji when she comes to know about her past and the circumstances that led her to become a sex worker. Lakshmi accepts her as her daughter-in-law and takes her home.

Madhu, a rich man, gets falsely accused in a murder case. However, a police officer agrees to get hold of the real culprit when he learns that Madhu is innocent.
