Huntington, West Virginia is a small town and a river runs through it. Next to the river is a steel mill and a school is situated right next to the steel mill. The school is Marshall University. In the middle of the University is a fountain, where the water is turned off at the exact same time and same day of every year. On the evening of November 14, 1970, Southern Airways Flight 932, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9 chartered by Marshall University to transport the Thundering Herd football team back to Huntington, West Virginia following their 17-14 defeat to the East Carolina University Pirates, clips trees on a ridge just one mile short of the runway at Tri-State Airport in Ceredo, West Virginia, and crashes into a nearby gully, killing all 75 people on board. Marshall is a school with a proud football tradition and in one instant their entire team, and coaching staff is wiped out. The team loses the game as the last pass in the game made by Marshall, could not be completed at the touchdown line. The coach asks the team to do better. The coach says that winning is the only thing that matters on the field. The deceased include the 37 players. Head coach Rick Tolley (Robert Patrick) and five members of his coaching staff. Charles E. Kautz, Marshall's athletic director. Team athletic trainer Jim Schroer and his assistant, Donald Tackett. Sports information director and radio play-by-play announcer Gene Morehouse. 25 boosters and five crew members. The plane crash landed in a forested area and broke into several pieces. Everything was on fire and there was no chance of anyone surviving. The whole town is impacted by the tragedy. William "Red" Dawson (Matthew Fox), one of the coaching staff, was saved when he gave his seat to another person who had to see his granddaughter perform in school that night. Red Is married to Carole Dawson (January Jones). Since Red's name was on the passenger manifest, he is still declared dead by the papers. The town organizes a funeral for the dead. As the dead are buried, the people of the town find it difficult to move on as the commemorative events continue to roll on. That spring, led by Nate Ruffin (Anthony Mackie), a player who was ill and missed the fatal flight, students rally to convince the board of governors to play the 1971 season. The others include Tom Bogdan (Brian Geraghty) and Reggie Oliver (Arlen Escarpeta). Paul Griffen (Ian McShane) is the father of the star quarterback of the team Chris, who lost his life in the crash. Annie Cantrell (Kate Mara) was dating Paul's son and was on the cheer-leading squad, who traveled back in a car with her friends. Paul works at the steel mill. Chris and Annie are engaged, but Chris was waiting to tell Paul before he died, and hence now Paul had no idea that Annie was engaged to Chris. In the wake of the tragedy, University President Donald Dedmon (David Strathairn) leans towards indefinitely suspending the football program. Paul also counsels Donald that it does not seem right to resume the football program so soon after the tragedy and that the town should not rush back into it. Paul argues that it would not be a game, but a weekly reminder of what the town lost. 28 kids lost both their parents in the tragedy. Donald is ultimately persuaded to reconsider by the pleas of the Marshall students and Huntington residents, and especially the few football players who didn't make the flight, led by Nate Ruffin. Nate rallies the town's younger population and conducts a demonstration in front of Donald's office to demonstrate the a majority of the people want things to return to normal. Dedmon hires Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) as head coach who, with the help of Red Dawson one of two surviving members of the previous coaching staff, manages to rebuild the team in a relatively short time, despite losing many of their prospects to West Virginia University. Dedmon travels to Kansas City, where he pleads with the NCAA to waive their rule prohibiting freshmen from playing varsity football. This was a rule which had been abolished in 1968 for all sports except for football and basketball, and would be permanently abolished for those sports in 1972. Dedmon returns victorious. Jack Lengyel motivates and leads young players at the same time that he reexamines the Lombardi (Ex coach) creed that winning is the only thing. He uses every trick in the book, including visiting a rival coach for their playbook to prepare his team. The new team is composed mostly of the 18 returning players (three varsity, 15 sophomores) and walk-on athletes from other Marshall sports programs. Due to their lack of experience, the "Young Thundering Herd" ends up losing its first game, 29-6, to the Morehead State Eagles. The loss weighs heavily on Dawson and Ruffin, who had been hurt on the first play of the game. This sets the tongues rolling that it is disrespectful to the dead players to set such an inept team on field. But Lengyel believes in his team & prepares them for their first home game. He sees that the town is still behind its team. The Marshall's pull off a stunning come from behind win & win the town's heart. The Herd's first post-crash victory is a 15-13 win against Xavier University in the first home game of the season, while erasing the painful memories of the crash. Hours after the victory a grief-stricken Coach Dawson remains in the team's locker room, in disbelief over the Herd's first win since the crash. He walks out to a still-full stadium of Marshall fans who share his astonishment and don't want to leave the stadium either. They don't manage to win another game the rest of the season, but their determination to keep the program running delivers huge success in the 80's with 5 championships. All thanks to the courage of those few men who stood up & kept the football going when no one else was willing to do so.

This movie is a very good thriller, for the most part. Just cryptic enough, most of the riddles are easy enough to figure out, though some of them hard enough you run out of time if you don't pause the movie. But the biggest mystery of all is the ending, which could be seen as a continuation of the theme of the movie, or it could be seen as a case of a writer running out of good ideas. In the end, it does mirror one of the first riddles presented, as what it delivers IS the answer to that riddle. In doing this the film comes full circle, which OUGHT TO be very satisfying. However, because of what the ending DOES you, the excellent plot doesn't matter, when the movie ends you are left with the same thing as you are in real life when you die. Sara Novak is a college student whose mother died in a car accident. She is haunted by her inability to understand why such random tragedies happen, and when she stumbles upon a game that promises to provide the answer, she plays along. The Nemesis Game is played by following a series of riddles left to her by anonymous people, if you solve the riddles you are led to an abandoned building, and when you solve the final riddle and write the answer on the wall, you will see the "Design"' of life and understand why bad things happen. Sara meets a group of people who are involved in the game, and eventually reaches the end of it. However, she doesn't get a chance to write HER answer on the wall. But it doesn't matter, she receives the same thing as everyone who reaches this stage i life, and she personally experiences the central metaphor of the Game; That life itself is a game, you play your part, and then you die. There IS no understanding other than that, and as most people do realize at some level "In life also there IS no understanding, life is about NOT understanding but going on living anyway". And what IS the surprise ending that is finally delivered that wraps up the otherwise excellent plot? What ARE you left with as an explanation to the twists and turns of the movie? It's the answer to the riddle "what do the poor have, the rich want, and God fears?" 'Nothing'

Cody Banks (Frankie Muniz), a 15-year-old high school student, applies for a junior position for the Central Intelligence Agency's Special Activities Division after completing his summer camp for CIA agents. The kids enter the camp, so the parents do not suspect anything, but inside they are trained by the CIA in the highest standards of combat, weapons handling, covert espionage and other mission critical skills. Cody lives with his parents Mrs Banks (Cynthia Stevenson) and Mr Banks (Daniel Roebuck) and has a brother named Alex. At home, Cody is expected to contribute to house chores like mowing the lawn and feeding the pets. Answering to his handler Agent Ronica Miles (Angie Harmon), Cody is called upon a mission to find information about a scientist named Dr. Albert Connors (Martin Donovan). Albert is the world's leading authority on Nano technology and its applications in Nano robotics. Connors is employed by a SPECTRE type organization named ERIS led by Dr. Brinkman (Ian McShane), and his henchman, Francois Molay (Arnold Vosloo). Connors had built Nano-robots that could clear oil spills, but Brinkman wanted Connors to program the Nano-robots to eat through any kind of carbon or silicone-based materials with obvious military applications. CIA Director (Keith David) had received a last transmission from his agent undercover indicating that Brinkman had asked Connors to convert the Nanobots into a weapon. Connors only connect with the outside world is through his daughter Natalie. Cody is placed into the prep school of Dr. Connors' daughter, Natalie (Hilary Duff), the William Donovan Institute. As all CIA agents are known to Brinkman's organization, the CIA uses the unknown Banks. Banks is chosen because as per his report, he is smooth with the girls. Cody's mission is to get close to Natalie and through her, try and access Albert's lab to try and figure out his exact plans with the Nanobots. Cody is given a bunch of cool spy gear such as x-ray glasses, cell phone with a holographic display and GPS transmitter, $1000 in cash for expenses and a watch that activates an intense electric charge when its dial is pressed. Cody tells his parents that he has been admitted to a prep school with full scholarship and that it has always been his dream to go there. Cody soon finds he has no social skill with girls and has no time to work on Natalie, while balancing his chores and homework. Cody knows that Natalie is way out of his league. The CIA decides to help by doing his chores and homework, trying to build his status, and going into the school to set him up with Natalie. Eventually, it emerges that Cody had lied on his profile and that he had no charms with the ladies. The director is livid, but they have limited time, and Cody is their only option now. The CIA assembles a varying team of "experts" to train Cody into how to talk to girls and issue him with a variety of gadgets with various functions. The experts cannot agree on the best way for Cody to approach Natalie and he is back to square one. Cody fails his driving license test, but the CIA intervenes and gets him a license from the DMV, so he can drive cool cars and impress Natalie. Eventually, Cody befriends and falls in love with Natalie after rescuing her from a falling a ladder while putting up a banner. After Cody befriends Natalie, he is invited to her 16th birthday party, where he goes undercover to her father's lab. Cody gifts Natalie a necklace with a built-in location tracker. Cody finds that Dr. Brinkman is planning to use Nanobots - which can destroy any carbon or silicon-based substance - to destroy the world's defense systems so he can threaten anyone who opposes him. Brinkman announces his intention to use the Nanobots to eat away the guidance systems on all intercontinental ballistic missiles, leaving their host nations defenseless. Since the Nanobots are inactive in the cold, he plans to use ice cubes to distribute them. After Connors, Brinkman, and Francois leave the lab, Cody tries taking one of the ice cubes, but melts when in his possession. Cody falls in love with Natalie and nearly fails the mission at the same time exposing his cover to Brinkman and Molay, causing the CIA to suspend him. Dr. Brinkman sends Francois and some men to catch Natalie and bring her into his base in the mountains. Meanwhile, Cody, disobeying orders to avoid Natalie, eats ice cream at a local restaurant with her. Cody attempts to explain things to Natalie but Francois and a group of henchmen ambush Cody and abduct Natalie. Dr. Brinkman's men come over to their table and fight with Cody, knocking him unconscious. Cody is removed from the mission, and his parents punish him for staying out past his curfew. Cody gets his brother Alex (Connor Widdows) to make sure his parents do not find out that he is gone by giving him the $5,000 the CIA gave him. Cody infiltrates into the CIA weapons hold and steals a rocket powered snowboard and other devices to rescue Natalie. Cody knows Natalie's location via a tracking device in a necklace he gave her as a birthday present. Cody gets a ride to the top of the mountain and snowboards to the factory where Natalie is held. On the way, he gets caught in a grove of trees as Ronica finds him using a SoloTrek XFV. After convincing Ronica that they need to rescue Natalie, Cody infiltrates the laboratory and rescues Natalie. However, Natalie is held hostage by Dr. Brinkman, who puts an ice cube with a Nanobot inside, on her forehead to make her father program the system. Cody plants an explosive charge and Natalie places the partly melted cube in Dr. Brinkman's mouth, killing him. Cody defeats Francois and sends him to the CIA using the SoloTrek XFV. Cody, Mr. Connors, Natalie, and Ronica flee the facility before it explodes. The CIA welcomes Cody back to the team and congratulates him for completing the mission, and Cody and Natalie start a relationship.

Clinton loves to play elaborate games and he assigns everyone a secret--one is an alcoholic, another an informer and so on--that they are not to share with anyone. Every day for the next six days, they will call into a port where they will be given clues to discover one person's secret. The film opens during the Battle of France in May 1940, with RAF pilots evacuating a small airfield in advance of the German Blitzkrieg. The pilots, along with British and French military, leave just as German aircraft arrive and execute a heavy strafing attack. RAF Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding (Laurence Olivier), realizing that an imminent invasion of Great Britain will require every available aircraft and airman to counter it, stops additional aircraft being deployed to France so that they are available to defend Britain. The camera looks over of the deserted beaches of Dunkirk while the BBC relays British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's declaration that "what General Weygand called the battle of France is over, the Battle of Britain is about to begin". Albert Kesselring arrives to inspect a large German airfield in captured France. Hundreds of Heinkel bomber aircraft are stationed under his command. Luftwaffe commanders are stunned when the Fuhrer informs them that the British are not their "natural enemy" and delays their attack while attempting a diplomatic settlement. In neutral Switzerland, the German ambassador (Curt Jürgens) officially proposes new peace terms to his British counterpart (Ralph Richardson), stating that continuing to fight the "masters" of Europe is hopeless. The Briton replies that his country will fight on. In England, commanders celebrate their good fortune, using the delay to build up their strength and continually train their pilots and ground controllers. The wait finally ends when Luftwaffe pilots receive orders to move to the front, where troops are preparing for a sea-borne invasion. The campaign begins with the Luftwaffe launching an early morning assault on "Eagle Day". The plan is to destroy the RAF on the ground before they have time to launch their Spitfire and Hurricane fighters. The Luftwaffe is aware of the British radar installations, and plan to attack them with their Stuka dive bombers. The fighter pilots question this, wondering if it is better if the British are warned by radar and come up to fight, where they can be shot down. Eagle Day proves highly successful, knocking two radar stations out of action and heavily bombing a number of the British airfields. British losses are relatively light, but the RAF is in the process of building its strength, and many of the pilots who lack combat experience are shot down. The airfields are heavily damaged, with many aircraft destroyed on the ground, and their ability to repair and rearm seriously affected. Adding to the RAF's problems is a battle between the commanding officers of 11 Group, Keith Park (Trevor Howard), and 12 Group, Trafford Leigh-Mallory (Patrick Wymark). 12 Group is tasked with protecting 11 Group's airfields while 11 Group meets the enemy, but in raid after raid 12 Group aircraft are nowhere to be seen. Called to meet Dowding, Leigh-Mallory explains that the "Big Wing" tactic takes time for form up, while Park complains that the tactic simply isn't working. Dowding ends the debate by pointing out it makes little difference; the problem is not the tactics but a critical shortage of pilots. Dowding wearily remarks, "We're fighting for survival, and losing". The turning point occurs when a squadron of German bombers becomes lost in bad weather at night and drops bombs on London. In retaliation, the RAF launches an attack on Berlin. Though the damage is negligible, Adolf Hitler is enraged, and publicly orders London to be razed. Hermann Goring (Hein Riess) arrives in France to personally lead the attack, confident that the end of the battle nears. Their first attack skirts the RAF, who are still defending their airfields to the south, and they bomb unopposed. Nighttime attacks follow, and London burns. Meanwhile, to supplement Commonwealth forces, the RAF has been forming units of foreign pilots who have escaped German-occupied countries; the main difficulty is their lack of English-language skills. While on a training flight, a Free Polish squadron accidentally runs into a flight of German bombers without escort. Ignoring the commands of their British training officer, they peel off one by one and shoot down several of the bombers. Park rewards them by elevating them to operational status, leading Dowding to do the same for the Canadian and Czech squadrons as well. While discussing the day's events, Park and Dowding examine the German switch to London. Given a respite, Park notes that he will be able repair his airfields and bring his squadrons back to full strength. Dowding adds that 12 Group units north of London are now all within range, while enemy fighters are at the extreme edge of their own range. He concludes that "turning on London could be the German's biggest blunder." The next German daytime raid is met by a massive response; watching his formations build up in 11 Group's operations room, Wing Commander Willoughby (Robert Flemyng) wryly states "this should give them something to think about." RAF fighters are arranged into large groups and attack with all force, overwhelming the Germans and breaking up their raid. Goring is incensed, ordering his fighters remain with the bombers, an order the pilots hate. Losses continue to mount on both sides. The climactic air battle of 15 September 1940 arrives, with Winston Churchill in attendance at 11 Group's operations room. In the underground bunker, British ground control personnel order every squadron into the air to meet the massive attack. Intense combat over the London sky follows, with both sides taking heavy losses. The outcome is so confused that Dowding refuses to pass comment on the events. The next day the RAF anxiously await a raid that never comes. Two German anti-aircraft gunners, who had earlier protected a French port teeming with Kriegsmarine vessels and landing barges, now observe a deserted harbor basin. Goring leaves the front, accusing his commanders of betrayal. As the campaign draws to a close, the words of Winston Churchill appear onscreen: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.
