Huntington, West Virginia is a small town and a river runs through it. Next to the river is a steel mill and a school is situated right next to the steel mill. The school is Marshall University. In the middle of the University is a fountain, where the water is turned off at the exact same time and same day of every year. On the evening of November 14, 1970, Southern Airways Flight 932, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9 chartered by Marshall University to transport the Thundering Herd football team back to Huntington, West Virginia following their 17-14 defeat to the East Carolina University Pirates, clips trees on a ridge just one mile short of the runway at Tri-State Airport in Ceredo, West Virginia, and crashes into a nearby gully, killing all 75 people on board. Marshall is a school with a proud football tradition and in one instant their entire team, and coaching staff is wiped out. The team loses the game as the last pass in the game made by Marshall, could not be completed at the touchdown line. The coach asks the team to do better. The coach says that winning is the only thing that matters on the field. The deceased include the 37 players. Head coach Rick Tolley (Robert Patrick) and five members of his coaching staff. Charles E. Kautz, Marshall's athletic director. Team athletic trainer Jim Schroer and his assistant, Donald Tackett. Sports information director and radio play-by-play announcer Gene Morehouse. 25 boosters and five crew members. The plane crash landed in a forested area and broke into several pieces. Everything was on fire and there was no chance of anyone surviving. The whole town is impacted by the tragedy. William "Red" Dawson (Matthew Fox), one of the coaching staff, was saved when he gave his seat to another person who had to see his granddaughter perform in school that night. Red Is married to Carole Dawson (January Jones). Since Red's name was on the passenger manifest, he is still declared dead by the papers. The town organizes a funeral for the dead. As the dead are buried, the people of the town find it difficult to move on as the commemorative events continue to roll on. That spring, led by Nate Ruffin (Anthony Mackie), a player who was ill and missed the fatal flight, students rally to convince the board of governors to play the 1971 season. The others include Tom Bogdan (Brian Geraghty) and Reggie Oliver (Arlen Escarpeta). Paul Griffen (Ian McShane) is the father of the star quarterback of the team Chris, who lost his life in the crash. Annie Cantrell (Kate Mara) was dating Paul's son and was on the cheer-leading squad, who traveled back in a car with her friends. Paul works at the steel mill. Chris and Annie are engaged, but Chris was waiting to tell Paul before he died, and hence now Paul had no idea that Annie was engaged to Chris. In the wake of the tragedy, University President Donald Dedmon (David Strathairn) leans towards indefinitely suspending the football program. Paul also counsels Donald that it does not seem right to resume the football program so soon after the tragedy and that the town should not rush back into it. Paul argues that it would not be a game, but a weekly reminder of what the town lost. 28 kids lost both their parents in the tragedy. Donald is ultimately persuaded to reconsider by the pleas of the Marshall students and Huntington residents, and especially the few football players who didn't make the flight, led by Nate Ruffin. Nate rallies the town's younger population and conducts a demonstration in front of Donald's office to demonstrate the a majority of the people want things to return to normal. Dedmon hires Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) as head coach who, with the help of Red Dawson one of two surviving members of the previous coaching staff, manages to rebuild the team in a relatively short time, despite losing many of their prospects to West Virginia University. Dedmon travels to Kansas City, where he pleads with the NCAA to waive their rule prohibiting freshmen from playing varsity football. This was a rule which had been abolished in 1968 for all sports except for football and basketball, and would be permanently abolished for those sports in 1972. Dedmon returns victorious. Jack Lengyel motivates and leads young players at the same time that he reexamines the Lombardi (Ex coach) creed that winning is the only thing. He uses every trick in the book, including visiting a rival coach for their playbook to prepare his team. The new team is composed mostly of the 18 returning players (three varsity, 15 sophomores) and walk-on athletes from other Marshall sports programs. Due to their lack of experience, the "Young Thundering Herd" ends up losing its first game, 29-6, to the Morehead State Eagles. The loss weighs heavily on Dawson and Ruffin, who had been hurt on the first play of the game. This sets the tongues rolling that it is disrespectful to the dead players to set such an inept team on field. But Lengyel believes in his team & prepares them for their first home game. He sees that the town is still behind its team. The Marshall's pull off a stunning come from behind win & win the town's heart. The Herd's first post-crash victory is a 15-13 win against Xavier University in the first home game of the season, while erasing the painful memories of the crash. Hours after the victory a grief-stricken Coach Dawson remains in the team's locker room, in disbelief over the Herd's first win since the crash. He walks out to a still-full stadium of Marshall fans who share his astonishment and don't want to leave the stadium either. They don't manage to win another game the rest of the season, but their determination to keep the program running delivers huge success in the 80's with 5 championships. All thanks to the courage of those few men who stood up & kept the football going when no one else was willing to do so.

The movie begins with Katey (Romola Garai) narrating on how she ended up in Havana to a montage of postcards and Havana sights. Her father, mother, and sister are riding in the car with her to a fancy hotel. Katey explains that Castro is leading a revolution against the current government of Cuba, but everyone at the hotel seems at ease. At the hotel pool Katey finds her sister sitting with some other Americans, including James (Jonathan Jackson), who introduces himself as the son of her father's boss. At this point the waiter, Javier (Diego Luna), arrives with the drinks and Katey accidentally knocks the tray over. One of the girls calls him a derogatory name and tells him to get more drinks. Katey feels bad and tries to talk to Javier, but he is not interested. Katey watches a movie of her mother and father dancing and wishes she was as good as they were. She and her father dance a bit. The next day in class Katey is asked to read aloud from The Odyssey and it is a passage about love and passion (foreshadowing!). After class James asks Katey to a party at the country club and she agrees. While walking home from school she sees Javier dancing at a street party and he offers to walk her home. They stop to listen to a street band and police show up, stopping Javier while Katey runs away. The next day Katey tries some of the dance moves she saw. Javier sees her and asks her to come see the real dancers Saturday night, but she says she is already going to the country club. Javier gets upset and leaves. Katey wears one of her maid's sexy dresses to the party and impresses James. Katey convinces him to take her to the Cuban club where Javier is dancing with the ladies. Javier dances with Katey while James sits at the bar. Soon he is accosted by Javier's brother, who tells him that they will eventually kick the Americans out of Cuba. Javier comes over and argues with his brother. James takes Katey back to the car and tries to seduce her, she refuses and runs away. Katey goes back to the club and Javier agrees to walk her home. The next day Katey walks by a dance class in progress and sees Patrick Swayze (gasp!) teaching it. He asks if anyone wants to enter the big dance contest and then dances with Katey for a bit. She grabs a flyer for the dance. While walking to the pool, James apologizes to her and then tells her that Katey's sister saw Javier with her and got him fired. Katey argues with her sister and goes to find Javier. He is now working at a chop shop with his brother. She asks him to enter the dance contest with her, but he refuses. Meanwhile, it is becoming apparent that Javier's brother is helping the revolutionaries. The next day Javier shows up at Katey's school and agrees to enter the dance contest with her. They start teaching each other dance moves and Javier convinces her to "feel the music". They practice all the time, Katey dances some more with Patrick Swayze (gasp!), until it is the night of the dance. They dance with the other couples on the floor and are chosen to go on to the next round. Katey's parents, however, disapprove of her relationship with Javier but Katey reconciles with them. On the night of the final round of the contest, while Katey and Javier are on the dance floor, Javier sees his brother and some revolutionaries disguised as waiters and the police soon try to arrest them. The contest stops as everyone flees the club and Javier has to save his brother from the police. Javier and his brother talk about how they miss they dad, then they hear that Batista has fled the country and join the celebration. Later, Javier comes to the hotel and finds Katey. He takes her to the beach and they do the horizontal mambo. The next day Katey's parents tell her they are leaving Cuba and she has one last night with Javier. They go to the Cuban club where they first danced and the floor is theirs. Katey's family is there to see her and Katey narrates that she doesn't know when she will see Javier again, but this will not be their last time to dance together.

In 1978, a young Dave Buznik (Adam Sanlder) is about to kiss the girl of his dreams, when a local bully, Arnie Shankman, pulls down his pants and underwear, embarrassing him in front of everybody. This leaves Dave with lasting trauma about public affection, as well as repressing his emotions. In the present day, Dave Buznik lives in New York, working as a secretary for Frank, an abusive boss who takes credit for Dave's work. His problems also extend to his private life, much to the concern of his girlfriend Linda (Marisa Tomei). Her ex-boyfriend and best friend Andrew is in her life constantly, and makes no resistance in being condescending to Dave. While flying to a business meeting, Dave sits next to a man named Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson). Buddy irritates Dave, and after Buddy pressures Dave to watch a movie with him, Dave asks the flight attendant for a headset. She ignores him, and when Dave asks her again, she overreacts and demands that he keep calm. The flight's sky marshal appears, overreacting to the situation as well, and tasers Dave. Dave is then arrested, tried, found guilty of assault, and sentenced to anger management therapy. Arriving at his first therapy session, he discovers that his therapist is Buddy. There, Dave meets a diverse group with assorted mental issues. Dave loses his temper more than once, mostly due to Buddy's odd therapy techniques. After the session, Buddy tells Dave that he will have to attend double the entire therapy course, recognizing Dave's problem as passive-aggressive anger. Later that night at a bar, Dave and Chuck, his "Anger Ally", played by John Turturro, get into a confrontation due to Chuck's anger. Dave accidentally strikes a cocktail waitress, while trying to stop a bar fight that Chuck had just started. Due to this, Dave ends up landing back in court. There, brash Buddy enlists Dave in his intense anger management therapy, moving into Dave's apartment, where he finds various ways to aggravate him. Among these, Buddy accompanies Dave to work where he insults Dave's boss and Andrew, whose father knows Frank. After receiving a phone call for Buddy, Dave is asked to tell him that his mother is having minor surgery in Boston. As a joke, he exaggerates its seriousness. Regretting his deceit, Dave confesses and Buddy forgives him, but vows to get him back. Buddy then tells Dave that he has to accompany him to Boston to check on his mother. On the way back to New York, they stop at a restaurant. There, Dave meets and goes home with an attractive woman at Buddy's insistence. He later comes back to the bar after rejecting her out of loyalty to Linda. Later, Dave is devastated to learn that Buddy has told Linda about the woman. Buddy reveals that the woman is actually a former patient of his and that this was his way of getting back at Dave. Buddy agrees that when they get back to New York, he will tell Linda the truth. On their way back, Buddy takes a detour to a Buddhist temple, so that Dave can confront Arnie. Now a monk, he is remorseful for his previous behavior, except for pulling down his pants when they were still kids. Buddy quickly starts a confrontation by lying to Arnie about insulting comments Dave made about Buddha and things that he did to tease Arnie's nutty sister. Dave beats Arnie in a fight, then he and Buddy are chased from the grounds. Back in New York, Dave attempts to propose to Linda but loses his nerve. Disappointed, Linda suggests that they take a break from their relationship. Later, Dave learns that Buddy has started dating Linda. He has an outburst and attacks Buddy, prompting him to end up in court on assault charges. Afterwards, Dave's boss browbeats him to return his latest assignment and gives the promotion Dave was clamoring for, to Andrew. Fed up, Dave snaps in his boss' office, punches Andrew out after ordering him to stay away from Linda, humiliates his boss and orders him to give him the promotion, to which he agrees. Dave learns that Buddy is taking Linda out to a New York Yankees game that night. Assuming that Buddy has stolen his idea of proposing to her at a game, he races to the stadium, runs out onto the field. Security captures him and begins to remove him from the stadium but Mayor Rudy Giuliani orders them to allow Dave to speak. He proposes to Linda but before she says yes, she wants him to prove his love by kissing her in front of everyone. When he does, she tells him that he has graduated from anger management. Linda then explains how she first approached Buddy while attending one of his anger management lectures and that everything that has happened was a setup for Dave's therapy; the Judge, the female flight attendant and the waitress were all friends of Buddy's and were part of the setup... except for the Air Marshal that shocked Dave with the taser, who was just another disgruntled passenger on the flight at the time. Dave, Linda, Buddy and the other therapy group members are celebrating Dave's graduation in Central Park, when a man approaches and asks for Buddy. When Buddy steps forward, the man pulls a gun and points it at him. Dave confronts the man, citing what he has learned from Buddy. The situation is defused when the man squirts water in Dave's face, revealing the pistol to be a toy, and Dave stating that he's a friend of his. The group laughs then sings together as the movie ends.

In a restaurant in East Great Falls, Michigan, Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) prepares to ask Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) to marry him when Jim's dad (Eugene Levy) calls to inform him he left the ring at home. As Jim tries to stall, he talks about the next step which Michelle interprets as spicing up their sex lives. She gets the impression that he wants a public sex act and proceeds to perform oral sex on him under the table. When Mr. Levenstein (Eugene Levy) arrives, Jim tries to hide the fact that he's being given a blow job under the table. Not knowing Michelle is under the table, Jim's dad expresses his excitement at the proposal. Then, after Michelle bumps her head under the table out of shock, all chaos ensues as Jim ends up exposed and has to hike his pants up quickly. Saving face, he swallows what's left of his pride and asks Michelle to marry him which she readily agrees. Jim has a night at the local bar with Michelle, Kevin and Finch to celebrate their engagement. During that night, it is revealed that Michelle likes to dance but Jim is a terrible dancer. Jim wishes to exclude Steve Stifler (Seann William Scott) from the wedding. Stifler notices the celebration party while passing and decides to crash what he thinks is a graduation party but is actually the engagement party. He messes with the cake which ends up on his lap and Jim's as well. Jim tries to take his pants off to clean them and chaos ensues ending with Jim looking like he's having sex with dogs when Michelle's parents meet him for the first time. When Stifler realizes that Jim is getting married, he volunteers to organize the bachelor party which Kevin and Finch hadn't thought about but agrees that Stifler would be the perfect guy for such an occasion. Stifler insists on taking part, seeing an opportunity to have sex with the bridesmaids. They don't tell him however that he is not invited. Michelle is stressed but doesn't want to tell Jim about her worries, so Jim doesn't know what she really wants and he knows she'll want to dance and he's really bad at it. He shares these details to Kevin and Finch who offers their help. Looking for dancing lessons, Kevin and Finch meets Stifler and try to hint that he's not invited at the wedding. Jim goes to Stifler to try to explain why he's not invited. Stifler gets angry and screams at Jim while his football team surrounds them and scream with him. Stifler uses that moment to whisper that he knows how to dance, and he can teach Jim. They have a first lesson together and Jim asks Stifler to tone down his obnoxious personality in exchange for planning the bachelor party. Meanwhile, Finch has been following Michelle under disguise to learn more about her desires for the wedding. He finds out that Michelle's dream wedding dress is made by only one designer working for one store in Chicago. Michelle was struggling to find the dress and Jim wanted to surprise her. Jim, Stifler, Paul Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), and Kevin Meyers (Thomas Ian Nicholas) travel to Chicago. The dress maker named Leslie isn't at the store. One of her colleagues agrees to give them the address of a few bars where they could find her. Stifler unwittingly walks into a gay bar as the designer is supposed to be hanging out there, and his raucous behavior gets him into a dispute with several patrons. Stifler defeats Bear (Eric Allan Kramer) in a dance-off, who offers to provide strippers for the bachelor party. Dress designer Leslie (Reynaldo Gallegos) reveals himself and agrees to make the dress for Michelle. Michelle is very happy with the effort Jim put in for her dress. Michelle's parents Mary Flaherty (Deborah Rush) and Harold Flaherty (Fred Willard), who were initially skeptical of Jim. When they first met Jim, it looked like he and Stifler were performing sexual acts on the Flaherty's dogs. The dress episode has convinced Michelle's parents that they should give Jim a second chance and they schedule a private dinner. Jim lies to Stifler that everyone will be gone that night so he can have his private moment with Michelle's parents. Michelle's younger sister, Cadence (January Jones), flies in for the wedding after breaking up with her boyfriend because he would not take her virginity. Both Finch and Stifler are attracted to her, and in an effort to win her over, they each adopt the other's personality. Finch believes Cadence is looking for the player type Casanova, while Stifler believes she is looking for a "decent" guy and avoids swearing and speaks of philosophy. The act works as it seduces both Cadence and her mother. When Finch realizes that Cadence is beginning to tire of the intellectual Stifler however, he starts to act immature, rude, and perverted: in other words, like the real Stifler. This change of attitude momentarily gets him the attention and favor of Cadence. Stifler arranges the bachelor party for Jim at his home but does not inform Jim, who unknowingly has arranged dinner with Michelle's parents at his home at the same time. Meanwhile, Jim begins to have doubts about marriage, worried that he has only ever really been with one woman. His father's awkward reassurances fail to convince Jim. Stifler, Finch, and Kevin break into Jim's parents' house to surprise him with the bachelor party and Bear's strippers, unaware Jim is bringing Michelle's parents over for dinner. Not waiting for Jim, they get the party started and play Bondage and Submissive roles with the girls. When Jim arrives with Michelle's parents, Stifler and Finch realizes their mistake and they hide everyone. With assistance from Bear, who poses as a butler named "Mr. Belvedere", Jim nearly succeeds in keeping the activities a secret, until Michelle's mother opens a closet door and is shocked to find Kevin inside, blindfolded, stripped to his boxers, and tied to a chair. Stifler makes up an excuse to explain everything and tries to take the blame for it but Jim insists to take the blame himself which convinces Michelle's parents that Jim is willing to make a lot of efforts for their daughter and they give him their blessing. Mary is touched by Stifler's gesture towards Jim and anoints him the ring bearer and hands over her mother's ring for safekeeping. In Grand Traverse County, Michigan, wedding preparations are underway, despite mishaps. Michelle is concerned that Jim's paternal grandmother (Angela Paton) disapproves of the wedding because she is not Hebrew. Jim tries to explain to her that his grandmother is very old fashioned, but Michelle still takes it very personal. Jim shaves his testicles the night before the wedding at an attempt at personal grooming, but when he disposes the hair from the window, it gets sucked into the kitchen via the ventilator and decorates the entire wedding cake. Stifler accidentally feeds the rings to the Flaherty dogs (by mixing it with dog treats) and then has to take it out of dog poop. When he finally gets the ring back, he tries to sneak to his room to wash it but is intercepted by Michelle's parents. Mistaking the stool in Stifler's hand for a truffle, Michelle's mother, who loves chocolate, attempts to eat it, giving Stifler no other choice but to eat it himself to save face. Only Finch knows the truth and reacts accordingly. Cadence admits she likes Stifler but questions if he is pretending to be different around her. After Cadence agrees to sleep with Stifler, he inadvertently disrupts the walk-in refrigerator's power supply while retrieving a bottle of champagne in an attempt to seduce Cadence which kills the flowers. He gets in an argument with Finch and goes into full Stifler mode just as Cadence walks by and sees everything. She obviously cancels the encounter. With the flowers destroyed, Jim is livid and asks Stifler to leave, and all the other guests, including Cadence, support Jim's decision, as she had also learned of his true personality and intentions. On his way home he sees the flower shop that provided the flowers for the wedding. He finds the owner's address and wakes her up in the middle of the night. Feeling guilty for his thoughtless behavior, Stifler convinces the florist to put together a new batch of flowers. She claims the job is impossible since she had four people working for two days to do the first job. Stifler enlists the help of his football players and Bear, to put the wedding back on track. Jim and Michelle, who were very sad the night before, wakes up to the sound of Stifler leading his whole team into decorating the wedding hall. As a gesture of remorse, he also gives a rose to Cadence. Seeing the new display, Michelle and Jim forgive Stifler, and Cadence reconciles with him, seeing he does genuinely care about his friends, and agrees to have sex with him in a supply closet before the wedding. Finch admits that Stifler was probably better for her anyway. Stifler, angry that he can't hate Finch after such a noble remark, tells Finch that he hates not hating him. Finch reminds him that he slept with Stifler's mom twice. Stifler says "Thank you" as a way to reveal that all the hatred is back. Stifler's presence is delayed by a brief thank-you meet Jim calls among his groomsmen, citing how he is grateful to have friends like them. Quickly returning to the hotel, Stifler hears someone in the supply closet and steps inside, unaware that Cadence was interrupted by wedding preparations and that the ushers. Meanwhile the ushers had placed Jim's grandmother in that closet to sustain her hostility about the wedding. Stifler only realizes this upon walk-in by Finch and Kevin, and by that time Stifler had already had sex with Grandmother, thinking she was Cadence. Grandmother becomes pleasant, particularly towards Stifler, making Michelle and Jim's dad unknowingly happy. Struggling to convey her feelings through her vows, Michelle asks Jim's dad for help. He explains that love is not just a feeling, but the actions they do for each other. She happily thanks and calls him dad. Despite the chaotic events leading up to it, Michelle and Jim get married. At the reception, the couple dances privately acknowledging their shared awkwardness and perversions that make them perfect for each other. Stifler dances with Cadence. Finch sits by himself when Stifler's mom (Jennifer Coolidge) arrives. Although agreeing they are over each other, Stifler's mom mentions having a hotel suite and invites Finch to join her. The guys from high school end up spying on Stifler's mom and Finch having sex in the hot tub.

Two friends and convicts, one charismatic Joe (Bruce Willis), the other neurotic and hypochondriac Terry (Billy Bob Thornton), break out of Oregon State Penitentiary in a concrete mixing truck and start a bank robbing spree, hoping to fund a dream they share. Joe notices that the main gate of the prison takes time to open and shut. When it open let out a pickup truck, Joe commandeers the concrete mixer that was in the prison compound, laying concrete and drives towards the main gate. Terry jumps on the truck, more out of worry for Joe. Joe is the brawn and Terry is the brains of the operation. Right after breaking out of prison, Joe steals a car from a woman, and uses that to drive up to a bank. He uses a magic marker and puts it against the lone guard inside the bank to make it seem like a gun. Joe is shows to have a weakness for beautiful women. Exiting the bank, Joe steals another car for their getaway. Escaping the police, they enter the first open garage they can find. The house belongs to Cheri Woods (Azura Skye) whose father is out for the weekend and she was spending time with her boyfriend Phil (Anthony Burch). Joe tells Terry that his uncle owns a hotel in Acapulco, and his dream is to buy the hotel and convert it into a resort and nightclub. Terry likes the idea. Joe proposes to pay for it by robbing banks. The next morning, the duo wear Cheri's father's clothes and leave in Phil's car. Terry says that the biggest issue with robbing banks is that everybody is trying to hit the alarm and there are too many uncontrollable. He figures out a way to control their environment. They become known as the "Sleepover Bandits" because of the way they work: they kidnap the manager of a target bank the night before a planned robbery, then spend the night with the manager's family; early the next morning, they accompany the manager to the bank to get their money. They use dim-witted would-be special effects stunt man Harvey Pollard (Troy Garity) as their getaway driver and lookout. Harvey is Joe's cousin. Harvey wants to make a name for himself in fire based special effects, but he needs a perfect suit. Their first bank was the Oregon City Bank, and its manager Darill Miller (Brían F. O'Byrne). They enter his home and kidnap his family including wife Cloe (Stacey Travis) and 2 daughters Monica (Scout LaRue Willis) and Erika (Tallulah Belle Willis). The next morning the plan goes like clockwork and quickly becomes a template. The three successfully pull off a series of robberies that gets them recognition on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list and ultimately the reward for information leading to their capture is increased to $1 million. When a housewife, with a failing marriage, Kate (Cate Blanchett) decides to run away, she ends up in the hands of the criminals. Terry was out of gas in his car and was stranded on a bridge. When he came back with a can, the cops were already there. Frantic, he tries to flag down a driver, running into Kate. Kate is in depression, and it doesn't matter to her that Terry is a fugitive. She offers to drive Terry to his destination and won't allow him to leave her car as she does not want to be alone. Terry had no choice but to bring Kate to their hideout in the woods. At first, Joe is livid, but is charmed by Kate and allows her to stay. Terry reads Kate's situation perfectly, and Kate loves that Joe is well read and into poetry. Initially attracted to Joe and kisses him. She also participates in the upcoming heists as a regular member of the crew and goes with Joe for the 2-week hiding period after every heist. After the next heist, Harvey is driving Kate, and Joe and Terry are in another car. Harvey makes a mistake while driving due to which an oncoming truck rams into Joe's car. The whole thing is recorded in a camcorder by a bystander. In the chaos, Terry escapes with Kate, and Joe with Harvey, with a plan to meet at the rendezvous point. Terry reaches their early and leaves with Kate, without waiting for Joe. Terry and Kate end up in a motel, which has only a single room available. Kate ends up in bed with Terry and a confused love triangle begins. The gang regroups out of town of their next heist location, as planned. The guys ask Kate to choose, and she refuses to and prefers to keep things ambiguous. Meanwhile, the tapes of the recording are all over the media and now police believe that Joe and Terry have kidnapped Kate. On one heist Harvey leaves the lookout to chase a girl, and the gang is almost caught. Terry fires Harvey, who leaves the gang and meets his girl on the highway. The three of them go on the lam and manage to pull off a few more robberies, but after a while the two begin to fight over Kate, and she decides to leave them. The two criminals then decide to pull off one last job. The story is told in flashbacks, framed by the story of the pair's last robbery of the Alamo Bank, as told by Criminals at Large and its host Darren (Bobby Slayton), a fictional reality television show. Apparently, Joe and Terry reached out to Darren at his house, and narrated their life story and within 24 hours, they died in the shootout at Alamo Bank. The show tells the story of the last job to be a failure when Kate tips off the police and the two are caught in the act, robbing the bank. The two then begin to argue when Joe tells the police "You won't take us alive!" and the argument gets to the point where the two of them shoot each other dead. But at the end of the film the real story behind the last job is revealed: Harvey used some of his special effects to make it seem as though Terry and Joe were shooting each other. Harvey and his girlfriend then ran in dressed as paramedics and placed the stolen money, Terry, and Joe in body bags. In the ambulance, Harvey uses electronics to blow out his tires which sends the ambulance into a junkyard. Under his jumpsuit, Harvey was wearing a fire suit. He lights himself on fire and rigs a bomb to go off. Kate, Harvey, Harvey's girlfriend, Terry, and Joe flee the scene, leading officials to believe the bodies were burned. Reunited, Joe, Terry, Harvey and Kate make it to Mexico to live out their dream. The last scene shows Harvey getting married in Mexico and Kate kissing Joe and Terry passionately.
