The film is about Dr. Siddharth Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan) and his son Dr. Akash Sinha (Anil Kapoor). Both work in the same hospital founded by Siddharth. Siddharth wishes to run a state-of-the-art hospital, but his work and profession means he dedicates his time to his patients. Unknown to anyone except Siddharth, he is a heart patient himself, but Siddharth ignores his own condition as the hospital needs better equipment and staff to serve the people. Siddharth also does not like that Akash is not as dedicated to the mission as himself. Soon enough Dr. Neha Mathur (Gracy Singh) walks into Akash's life. Neha is an anesthetist and is assigned to work with Akash on his Neurosurgery team. Akash initially believes that Neha is incompetent when she fails to bring the blood pressure of a patient under control during surgery. He lashes out at Neha, but she defends herself saying that she did everything she could, and the patient had a complicated history of hypertension and heart disease due to which reducing blood pressure any lower would have resulted in a cardiac arrest on the operating table. Akash tells Neha that he is Siddharth's adopted son. Siddharth himself never married his entire life. Akash and Neha agree to work together to write Siddharth's new hospital's project report in a more investor friendly language. Akash and Neha fall in love. The project report is prepared, and the cost of the project is at Rs 12-15 Crores. The arrival of Soniya Kapoor (Preity Zinta) changes everything between Neha and Akash. Soniya is a rich and arrogant schizophrenic woman who is used to having things her own way and it is not long before she wants Akash for herself. Soniya learns from Akash that his biggest dream is to bring the hospital project to life. Soniya decides that since Akash is the man for her, she can latch on to him by literally 'buying' his love through financial agreement. Her father Gulshan Kapoor (Randhir Kapoor) contacts Siddharth for a meeting. Gulshan proposes that on Akash marrying Soniya, he will help finance the hospital project. As fate would have it, Siddharth Sinha expires in his attempt to bring a child injured in an accident to his hospital. Siddharth's car was broken, and he saw a kid run over by a truck on an isolated street. He carried the kid all the way to the hospital but has a heart attack himself in the process. His last wish is for the hospital to be properly completed. Akash sets on to fulfill his father's dream. Going through Siddharth's letters, Akash learns that Siddharth once loved a woman and wanted to marry her. But her father put a condition that Siddharth would have to give up the child as a precondition. Siddharth gave up his own happiness to protect Akash. Akash, now burdened with the increasing debts to purchase equipment for the hospital, cannot arrange for further funds. Akash then learns of Gulshan's offer to Siddharth, which he had refused saying that Akash is not for sale. Over a broken heart, Akash agrees to marry Soniya, in order to set up the hospital, and thus fulfilling his father's final wish. Neha understands this and agrees to break up with Akash but offers to continue working in the same hospital because she is a professional and dedicated person. After the marriage, Soniya starts suspecting Akash is having an affair with Neha and starts annoying both of them. She cannot stand Neha still working at the hospital and keeps coming up with all kinds of reasons to get Neha out. Akash is so stressed at home that he starts sleeping at the hospital. Neha tenders her resignation to Akash. But then she assists Akash in a critical surgery and realizes that the hospital needs her. Neha decides to marry a fellow doctor Sanjay, who had a crush on her from day one. Soniya is happy that Neha is finally getting settled. But then, Neha realizes that she will not be happy marrying Sanjay and calls off the wedding. Soniya feels that Akash had something to do with the marriage being called off. Soniya calls Neha's mother and threatens to hurt Neha if she does not let go of Akash. Neha's mother had a panic attack and falls down the stairs. She needs urgent surgery, but unfortunately all her medical records were with Akash. Soniya stalls every attempt by Neha to get in touch with Akash that night. Neha's mother passes away in the night and Akash only comes to know in the morning. Soniya had even instructed the guards not to let anyone into the house. Akash decides to leave Soniya. While following Akash, Soniya is involved in a fatal accident and has serious damage to her brain. Now Akash has to operate on her. For a moment he is in a dilemma, because curing Soniya would mean facing her problems again. But he decides that he is a doctor, and a doctor should never discriminate patients, but his job is to simply save lives. Akash operated Soniya and she is fully recovered. Soniya comes to know that she was operated by Akash, even when she created all kinds of problems for him. Wisdom dawns on Soniya and she asks for Akash's pardon and gives him divorce and walks out of his life, freeing him to marry and settle down with Neha.

Arun, a kind-hearted, modest man, discovers a device that gives him the power of invisibility, and battles against the feared crime lord, Mogambo, who is on a quest to acquire this device.

The story begins with a happy lower-middle-class family - Arun Verma (Anil Kapoor) an 8-year-old boy, his sister Komal Verma (Khushboo) a 5-year-old girl, his mother (Nutan) and his father Deepak (Girish Karnad) - living a peaceful life. Arun's parents teach their children through the famous title song "Zindagi Har Kadam Ek Nayi Jung Hai, Jeet Jayenge Hum, Jeet Jayenge Hum Tu Agar Sang Hai" which means that life is full of challenges at every step and still we will overcome all these if we are together. Arun's father is trapped in a murder case, for murdering a rich philanthropist Mr Oberoi, who refused to support his plan to start a music academy. A famous criminal lawyer G. D. Thakral (Amrish Puri) proves him guilty (with a false testimony of Oberoi's neighbor who gives a narration of happened on the night of the murder), and he is sentenced to be hanged by the court. Pleas by Arun's mother fail to convince Thakral to be truthful and spare her husband. Thakral asks her to give evidence for his innocence, to which she sadly quotes, "Jiske Paas Koi Sabut, Koi Gavah Nahi Hote Kya We Begunah Nahin Hote" ("one who does not have any proof or witness of innocence, are they not innocent?"). Thakral was determined to let her husband hang as this would get him lots of publicity (plus he was paid Rs 5 Lakhs by Oberoi's younger brother, who wanted control over his wealth). That night Oberoi's brother tries to kills the witness, lest he changes his testimony. The injured witness reaches the temple where Deepak's wife was sitting, desolate, and tells her that Deepak is innocent. But he dies there and then. She is not able to reach the jail on time. Deepak is hanged as per the court's decision. Arun's mother becomes mentally unstable from shock and is sent to a mental institution. Later Advocate Gupta (A. K. Hangal), the lawyer who defended Arun's father, finds out that Thakral had known all along that he was innocent, but only wanted him to be hanged. Arun finds out that Thakral abused the law. Arun's house and all his property are auctioned off by the court. Arun and his sister are not offered help. He grows up with the seeds of revenge in his heart. He becomes a successful defense lawyer and keenly follows every case of Thakral so that some day he can stand up in court against the unbeaten Thakral and beat him. One day Geeta Srivatsav (Meenakshi Seshadri) comes to him and asks him to fight the case of her sister, Dr. Asha Mathur (Bina), who is accused of killing a patient on duty with her medicine, which she gave from her purse. Arun refuses saying that if she can produce even a piece of evidence of her sister being innocent he will fight for her. Geeta replies coincidentally the same sentence "Jiske Paas Koi Sabut, Koi Gavah Nahi Hote Kya We Begunah Nahin Hote." Arun is instantly reminded of his mother's pleadings before Thakral. Geeta storms out of his office, but Arun is convinced to take the case. He meets Asha Mathur in police custody. He learns from her that on that fateful night she got a call from her ward assistant that her patient (who is a police witness) is in the ICU and needs her. She stops on the way (due to a traffic jam), and she impatiently moves out of her car to ask the reason. Meanwhile, somebody replaces the medicine bottle with the look-alike bottle of poison from her purse. On arrival in the hospital, she gives the liquid from that bottle to stabilize the patient. This resulted in the patient's death. It is shown that Asha Mathur's husband, Dr. Dinesh Mathur (Parikshit Sahni), had gone to meet Thakral and had asked him to fight his wife's case. Thakral says no, claiming he is very busy at the moment, but later tells his assistant that there is no way that this case could be won. Arun meets Dinesh Mathur and informs him that he will fight the case. He asked him about the nature of poison and for how long a person can sustain the poison; he learns that poison might result in death within 2 to 15 minutes depending on the body's resistance. The case begins with the prosecution lawyer recounting the events of that fateful day and telling that the medicine given to the patient was actually poison. Arun defends the case says that the patient did not die of this medicine. To prove himself right he drinks the medicine in court and refutes the claim. The court declares Geeta's sister not guilty. Just after the judgment, Dr. Mathur rushes Arun to hospital. It is revealed that the medicine contained poison, and Arun is saved in the nick of time. Geeta calls him on a beach to appreciate his efforts and kindness at the canteen. They fall in love. Thakral's son Vikram Thakral (Javed Jaffrey), a spoiled brat, not knowing anything about Arun, teases Geeta, which irritates the couple. Soon things take an ugly turn and Arun beats up Vikram. Dr. Mathur wants to appreciate and compensate Arun for the risky effort he took to save his wife. He calls him for a get-together in his mansion. Dr. Mathur gives Arun a blank check. Arun rejects the offers politely and says he did for his self-satisfaction. He then finds the same piano with the sticker of Bhagwat Geeta of Krishna which his father used to play and was auctioned. His memories are refreshed again and with the emotional request he tells Dr. Mathur that this piano is very significant to him and asks for it. Dr. Mathur very happily gives him the piano. One day at Arun's home, Mr. Mathur sees a photo of the former's mother hanging on the wall. He immediately recognizes the face with the patient he was handling for mental disorders. Arun and his sister request them to take them to her. In the mental hospital they see their mother. Her memories had stopped on the day of the incident; she feels that their children are eight and five, staying with father. Arun brings her mother to his house and tries to make her come back to normal; she regains her memory on hearing the song "Zingadi Har Kadam..." Meanwhile, Vikram wants to exact revenge on Arun and devises a plan to trap Komal who studies in the same college. He tries to impress her by his charms, dancing skills, and ways of flattering people. The plan works. Komal falls for him and he convinces her to run away with him (so that he can publicly defame Arun by leaving his sister). At the planned moment, when one of Vikram's ex-girlfriends Indu (Rabia Amin) shows up and tells Komal of Vikram's evil intentions. In the ensuing argument, Vikram murders his girlfriend which is witnessed by Dr. Mathur's family (as Arun had kept Komal with Geeta to keep her away from Vicky). Arun had been waiting for this moment to take revenge on Thakral. He steps in as the prosecutor against Thakral who is defending his son. The case moves to and fro (Thakral contends that Komal wanted to frame Vicky to extract revenge on his dad for hanging her father. Asha Mathur had weak eyesight and hence could not be relied upon to identify Vicky from a distance. Dr Mathur was also wearing a coat and trouser that night (as was Vicky), and Thakral alleges that Dr Mathur was having an affair with Indu and killed her when he saw Indu in his house and was afraid that Indu would reveal the truth to Asha) and, in the end, Arun has the upper hand (He produces a fake coat and knife and gets Thakral to admit that that night Vicky was wearing a white coat). That night Vicky bribes the police station inspector to release him for an hour so he can destroy the coat and knife. But this was a trap and Arun was waiting for Vicky. After a fight, Vicky manages to destroy the evidence, but letters from Indu fall into Arun's hands. Thakral kidnaps Arun's mother and attempts to blackmail him. Arun goes to save his mother and is beaten up by Thakral's goons. Even though injured, Arun fights back. In an attempt to shoot Arun, Thakral shoots his friend's son and is jailed. He is unsuccessful in saving his son, who is given the death penalty. Thakral becomes a mentally unstable person. Arun and his family are reunited.

Mona D'Silva (Dimple Kapadia) runs a small restaurant in Goa. Raja (Kamal Haasan), who lives close by, is a good friend & a fisherman. He is in love with her but is unable to profess his feelings. Raja is waiting to earn enough money, so he can buy his own boat and can provide the luxuries of life to Mona. Thekedaar (Goga Kapoor) is the owner of the docks & the boats. Cheena (Lilliput) is Raja's mute friend and Raja looks out for him Mr D'Silva (Saeed Jaffrey) is Mona's father and likes Raja. Miss Joseph (Nadira) is Raja's adoptive mom & knows Raja loves Mona. Mr Silva wants Mona to marry Raja, but she considers him as only a friend. Vikram (Shafi Inamdar) is the GM of a large fishing company. Batuk Laal (Satish Kaushik) is his assistant. They both work for Kamla Devi (Madhur Jaffrey), the owner of the firm. Vikram wants to ban small fisherman from the sea as their catch impact the market price of the company's products. Kamla Devi is Vikram's aunt, and he dreams of inheriting her wealth and position. But she informs Vikram that her grandson is moving to Goa from the US. Kamla does not like that her son married a commoner due to which Ravi was born. Vikram had eyes on Kamla's wealth and is not happy that Ravi is moving back to Goa, as the heir apparent. Kamla's son and his wife died when Ravi was 7 yrs old. Kamla brought Ravi back, but kept him in hostel for all his life, and only now decided to bring him to Goa to stay with her. Ravi (Rishi Kapoor) moves to Goa and Kamla wants him to manage the business. Ravi does not like that Kamla speaks disparagingly about his parents, and for taunting his death father for wasting his life by marrying his commoner mother. Ravi sees Mona swimming naked in the early morning sun on the beach and goes nuts. One day Vikram decides to drive his boat right through the local fishermen's nets that were deployed in the ocean, damaging them substantially. Raja is a witness and asks Vikram for compensation at his office. Vikram refuses, but Ravi intervenes and agrees to pay, as he has sympathy for the poor. Ravi starts pursuing Mona, and even serenades her. Mona and Ravi fall in love of which Raja knows nothing. Meanwhile Vikram advises Kamla to drop their fish prices in the market. This would force the poor fishermen to match their prices, which they cannot afford as they need to pay interest on their borrowings. This pricing move would wipe out all the poor fishermen of the area and allow Kamla to corner the entire market. Kamla approves the pricing move. The fishermen led by Raja contemplate their next move, but Ravi reaches out to Raja and befriends him, by drinking with him at a local bar. The friendship between Ravi and Raja grows. Ravi wants to marry Mona, but hesitates to ask her dad, so he decides to ask Raja to represent him. But before Ravi can ask, Raja tells Ravi how much he loves Mona, but hasn't had the courage to tell her. Ravi is heartbroken, and decides to step back from Mona. when Ravi finds that Raja is waiting to buy his own boats before he proposes to Mona, he arranges for a family friend to give Raja a business investment (without Raja ever realizing that the investment came from Ravi). Ravi writes a letter to Mona, and tells her that he is going away. They meet for one last time, and Ravi tells Mona that Raja loves her. Meanwhile Raja is ecstatic that he now has a business investment to buy his own boats. He prepares to propose to Mona. He rushes to Mona, only to find Mona and Ravi in a deep embrace. Raja is heartbroken and spends the whole night alone and drinking. Miss Joseph finds out about Raja's heartbreak. The next day Mona approaches Raja and says that she loves Ravi. And Ravi wont even talk to her, unless Raja fixes things between them, as he does not want to come between Mona and Raja. She categorically says that Raja is a great friend to her, but nothing more. To placate Mona, Raja pretends that all of this was only a ruse to get Ravi and Mona to profess their love for each other publicly. Raja then helps reunite Ravi with Mona. Post this Raja leaves with Miss Jospeh to visit her sister. Vikram tells Kamla about Ravi's affair with Mona. Ravi's grandmother, Kamladevi, is opposed to their love because of class differences. Ravi brings Mona to meet Kamla, but she was away on business trip. Ravi gives a holiday to all servants and proceeds to have some frolic with Mona. But Vikram finds out and tells Kamla that Ravi is alone at her bungalow with Mona. Kamla returns to the house and forces Mona to leave without meeting her properly. Kamla refuses to meet Mona formally, but tells Ravi to send Mr D'Silva to meet her. Kamla insults D'Silva over his and his daughter's status, and throws D'Silva out of her house. D'Silva has an heart attack after he is beaten up by Kamla's goons. When Kamla refuses to apologize to the D'Silva family, Ravi leaves her. Ravi goes to meet D'Silva, but is beaten up by the villagers and thrown outside the village. Kamla asks Vikram to buy the loans of the entire village. Kamla then sends the police with court orders to seize the boats of the entire village. The villagers send Mona to beg Kamla to relent. Kamla offers her a choice between Ravi and the welfare of the entire village. Kamla orders Mona to marry someone else within 7 days. Ravi threatens Kamla that if Mona gets married, he will commit suicide. Meanwhile Raja returns from his trip, & D'Silva asks Raja to marry Mona. Raja decides to help Mona and Ravi. Ravi finds out that Raja really loved Mona and that he sacrificed his own love for the sake of his friendship with Ravi. Ravi is shocked. Meanwhile Kamla decides that she cannot afford to lose Ravi and tells Vikram to get him back, by telling him that she is ready to accept all of his demands. Vikram decides to kill Ravi. Vikram abducts Mona and forces Ravi to surrender. He wants Ravi to commit suicide, but Raja intervenes and attacks Vikram's goons. Raja defeats the goons and asks Ravi and Mona to leave town asap. Ravi refuses to take Mona with him, as he knows that Raja loves Mona. But then Vikram gets up and shoots at Ravi. Raja sees this and comes in between, taking the bullets on himself. Ravi kills Vikram, but Raja dies. Kamla accepts Ravi and Mona.

Mohan Kumar (Dilip Kumar) is a honest and conscientious man working as the General Manager of a shipping company owned by his friend, Dinesh (Pradeep Kumar). Dinesh is a widower and his daughter, Roma (Amrita Singh) is attached to Mohan Kumar, his wife Sumitra (Saira Banu) and young son Ravi (Rishi Kapoor). Assistant Mgr Jugal Kishore (Pran), Accountant Bhandari (Prem Chopra) and storekeeper Balwant (Amrish Puri) who work under Mohan Kumar, are into smuggling. When Mohan Kumar comes to know of their activities, the three men murder Dinesh and deviously frame Mohan Kumar for it. Mohan Kumar is helpless. Unable to prove his innocence in court (he was holding the gun when the police arrived at Dinesh's house.), he is sentenced to a 14-year jail term. After that Sumitra tries to attack the trio in the street but is thrown off by then and come under a commercial vehicle and dies. Mohan vows revenge against the trio after he returns from jail. After serving the jail term Mohan Kumar takes help from Puri (Ashok Kumar) whose life he had saved in prison, to take revenge on the three villains. Mohan searches for his son Ravi in orphanages and finds that he ran away several yrs ago. Puri has connections with the under-world. While Mohan Kumar is also unable to trace his son Ravi. Roma lives with her wayward uncle Jagdish (Satyen Kappu), a mean alcoholic. Unknown to Mohan Kumar, his lost son Ravi (Rishi Kapoor) is a sophisticated conman and steals money by betraying people's trust. Jugal, Bhandari and Balwant still run the smuggling business. Ravi is asked to deliver a few liquor bottles to a party at Bhandari's house. Bhandari is taking a bath, so the servant thinks Ravi is a guest and invites him in. Ravi sits at the table and plays cards, which JK sees and is impressed with his tricks. JK employs Ravi for Rs 10000 per night. Puri helps Mohan to track down JK as well as Roma. Mohan rescues Roma from Jagdish. Mohan starts by figuring out the Modus Operandi of JK's smuggling operations. He finds out the location where JK's smuggled gold is being offloaded in Bombay, by kidnapping JK's agent Teja (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). Mohan then confronts the trio and tells them that is going after their lives. JK asks Balwant to kill Mohan at the earliest. Balwant finds that Mohan is taking Roma out for dinner on her birthday. As luck would have it, Ravi was scouting the same hotel and sees Roma alone with a purse full of money. Mohan is running late and Ravi strikes a conversation with Roma. Mohan meets Ravi when he arrives & feels an unexplained affection for Ravi. when Balwant shoots at Mohan, Ravi sees it in time and pushes him away, thus saving Mohan's life. Balwant sees Ravi and reports the matter to JK. JK believes Ravi when he says that he doesn't know Mohan and agrees to be JK's spy in Mohan's house. Ravi pretends to be in love with Roma in order to get close to Mohan. Roma loves Ravi and recommends him to Mohan for a job in Mohan's office. Ravi figures out that Mohan knows the location of JK's warehouses and intends to attack. Ravi tries to warn JK but gets delayed in traffic and then his lift gets stuck. Mohan sets the warehouses on fire. Bhandari had moved all of his life's savings into those warehouses, based on threat from Mohan, that he would target his wealth. Bhandari is penniless now. Bhandari is distraught and jumps into the blazing fire to save his money and dies. Unknown to anyone, Mohan had already removed Bhandari's money bags from the warehouse and delivered them to Puri. Jugal Kishore and Balwant assign Ravi to kill Mohan Kumar For Rs 10 Lakhs. Ravi decides to kill Mohan at Puri's party that very night. Unable to do so (he hesitates while taking the shot), Ravi falls off the roof, and is ironically saved by Mohan Kumar. Kabir (Mac Mohan), one of Puri's henchmen, finds Ravi's gun. Suspicious, he spies on Ravi and finds out his connection to JK and Balwant. Mohan Kumar is enraged and throws Ravi out even though he begs that he loves Roma and respects Mohan. Balwant tries to kill Mohan Kumar but fails. Mohan Kumar chases him and hit by a truck, Balwant dies. Ravi runs into Jagdish, who tells Ravi how Mohan was convicted for Dinesh's murder. Ravi confronts Mohan in front of Roma, and Roma is devastated to know that Mohan hid this fact from her. She decides to leave with Ravi. Meanwhile JK's goon reaches Ravi's house, and they find that Ravi is in fact Mohan's son. JK decides to abduct Ravi. While abducting Ravi, JK finds that Roma is Dinesh's daughter and abducts her too. Now JK informs Mohan that his son and Roma are in his custody and demands Rs 50 Lakhs as ransom. When Mohan reaches the designated location, Ravi realizes that Mohan is his father (JK reveals the same). Ravi and Mohan team up to get the upper hand on JK, but Teja arrives to swing the equation again in JK's favor. At the end Puri arrives to disarm JK and Teja. After a huge fight, Mohan ends up shooting JK.

The film takes place in the 19th Century British India and is the story of the fight for independence from the British between 1825 and 1875. The film tells the story of men that lead the war against British Rule: Sanga (Dilip Kumar), Bharat (Manoj Kumar) known as Kranti, a prince Shakti (Shashi Kapoor) and a freedom fighter (Shatrughan Sinha). Sanga is an honest and dedicated employee in the kingdom of Ramgarh, owing allegiance and loyalty to no one except Raja Laxman Singh (P. Jairaj). When Laxman Singh conditionally permits the British to use the port for trading purposes, Sangha finds out that the British are taking out gold and jewelry and bringing in ammunition, and puts a stop to this. He goes to report this outrage to Laxman Singh, only to find him stabbed to death. Sanga is charged with treason and of killing Laxman Singh. Sangha was betrayed by Laxman's brother Shamsher (Pradeep Kumar) and his brother-in-law Shambhu (Prem Chopra), who wants to see Shamsher on the throne of Ramgarh. SAngha is forced to accept charges of treason when Shambhu captures his wife Radha (Nirupa Roy) and son. Sentenced to death, he escapes (Before escaping he cuts off Shambhu's arm with which he killed his unborn baby) and forms a group of revolutionaries who have only one goal - to drive the British out of India. But the baby is born by miracle of God. Sanga doesn't know it as he has escaped the kingdom. Shambhu goes after Sanga's unprotected family. Sanga's elder son is saved by Sanga's friend & is named Bharat (Manoj Kumar). Meanwhile his younger son is saved by the palace maid, who puts the baby as the new born child of Laxman's sister Queen Charumati (Shashikala) (who has had 3 dead kids so far). The younger child grows up to be prince Shakti (Shashi Kapoor). Sanga captures a British ship and becomes a pirate to disrupt their sea based supply chains. This group multiplies into several armies, all united with one slogan - an Independent India, also known as Kranti. Bharat (Manoj Kumar) starts his own army which has Sureeli (Parveen Babi), Sheetal (Sarika) and Kareem Khan (Shatrughan Sinha). Kareem is captured by Shamsher and his forces. Bharat rescues Kareem before he is killed. In response Shamsher appoints Shakti his new commander of the armed forces. Shamsher's own son Prince (Dheeraj Kumar) is very pissed with this decision, but Shamsher explains he did this, so no-one would accuse him of bias when he appoints Prince to be the new King. Rajkumari Meenakshi (Hema Malini) is en-route to Ramgarh to wed Prince. She is arrogant and is imprisoned by Bharat, when her commander Darmiyan Singh (Manmohan) tries to rape Sureeli. Bharat decides to send Sureeli as the princess to Ramgarh, to infiltrate the enemy camp. Meanwhle Bharat rescues slaves from a British mining settlement, which includes Radha. Without knowing, mother and son are united. Bharat shows Meenakshi how British have tortured Indians to further their own business interests. Meenakshi converts to helping Bharat. Based on Sureeli's intelligence, Bharat stops Shakti from transporting India art and religious treasures to Britain. He spares Shakti's life in the process. Meenakshi is in love with Bharat, but Sureeli secretly loves him too. Bharat and Sanga are known as Kranti.. to turn public opinion against Kranti, British, with Shambhu start carrying our rapes and other atrocities in the name of Kranti. Sheetal is raped and killed in her village during one such revenge raid. This leads Bharat and Sanga to blame each other for the crimes. The two Kranti's have a showdown and fight with swords when Shakti shows up and arrests them both. Meenakshi and Kareem join forces to rescue Sanga and Bharat, but Sureeli's father is killed in the process. Sureeli is also killed by Shambhu when he realizes that she is not Princess Meenakshi. Shakti again captures Bharat (when he tracks the horse carriage used by Sureeli to come to the Ramgarh palace, it leads him to Bharat's hideout) and makes him a slave on a British ship. Bharat finds Kareem in the ship's hold. Meenakshi becomes a slave girl on the same ship. They convert the ship's slave master to their side and eventually kill all the Brits. Meanwhile Sanga confronts Shakti and defeats him in a sword fight. Sanga spares his life and rides away, but Shambhu shoots at his back and misses. Sanga thinks Shakti shot at him as a coward. Meanwhile the palace maid is dying and tells Shakti that Charutmati is not his mother and his real mom is Radha. As Shakti reunites with his mom, he is captured by Sanga. Radha follows Shakti and is reunited with Sanga. Radha meets Bharat and asks him to rescue Shakti (who has been kidnapped by Kranti, not knowing Sanga is Kranti). Bharat intervenes before Sanga can kill Shakti (Sanga is intent to punish Shakti even knowing that Shakti is his son). They all escape when the Brits attack Sanga's hideout and Shakti saves them Shambhu basically kidnaps Radha and Meenakshi, forcing Sanga and Bharat to join forces and attack the fort. At the fort Radha runs into the palace maid who tells her that Bharat is her elder son. Kareem sacrifices himself to fire an old cannon that brings down the door of the fort. Sanga heads towards the palace as Shambhu is taking Meenakshi and Radha there. Sanga rescues them and Meenakshi stays with Sanga, while Shakti goes with Radha to find Bharat who is trying to silence the cannons aimed at the villagers. Meenakshi goes into labor. Sanga takes Meenakshi away from the cannons where she can give birth. Meanwhile Bharat sacrifices himself to silence the cannons. Sanga leads Meenakshi to Radha, where she has already given birth. Before dying Bharat uses the cannons to injure Shambhu and the British garrison posted at Ramgarh. Shambhu turns one cannon towards Bharat and delivers a deadly blow. Bharat dies in the arms of his parents after kissing his son. Yrs later, Bharat's son kills Shambhu and avenges the death of his father.

DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) Shiv Kumar (Sunil Dutt) is a daring policeman who has just defeated and arrested notorious robber Durjan Singh. He returns home to his wife Sheetal (Rakhee Gulzar) and their young daughter and announces that he has been transferred to Bombay. He has two brothers, Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi (Shashi Kapoor), who live in Bombay. They are intelligent, capable guys, but spend their time loafing about the city and swindling unsuspecting people (for eg they convince a corrupt hotel manager that Vijay has stolen rs 2.5 lakh of jewelry from his employer, and Ravi (a policeman) is looking for him. The manager makes a deal with Vijay to buy the diamonds off him for RS 10000. Thats when Ravi arrives again and threatens jail for helping a robber. The manager pays an additional rs 5000 as bribe to Ravi). Shiv doesn't like their philandering ways. After being swindled by Chacha (Johnny Walker) and Renu (Bindiya Goswami) (Renu appears as a damsel in distress who owes money to Chacha who acts as a money lender. The due date is past and Chacha threatens jail. She offers her Porsche against a loan of rs 30K. The car is worth at least rs 100K. Ravi is besotted with Renu (and was overhearing the conversation) and offers to help her by buying the car for rs 30K. Turns out the car was stolen and lands Ravi+Vijay in jail). Abdul (Mazhar Khan) a crippled street beggar, helps them find Renu and Chacha. Renu and Chacha return the 25K to them, as they already spent the 5k. Vijay is impressed with their work and offers to join forces for the next caper. The idea is to steal a diamond necklace from Maharani Kamalpur when she attends a party at the Sheesh Mahal hotel. They are quickly joined by a glamorous thief, Sunita (Parveen Babi). Sunita manages to steal the necklace before the quartet. But the police condones off the hotel and starts a search of every individual. Sunita drops the necklace in Vijay's pocket, which Vijay notices. He escapes by hiding the necklace in his cane. Vijay invites Sunita to join their gang.. One of their tricks (the duo play god-men who can walk on water) eventually backfires (when Shiv sees their ads all over town and arrests them) and lands Vijay and Ravi in jail. Shiv later bails them out and reads them the riot act at home. Shakaal (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is an international crime lord operating from a remote island outside India (300 kms from Bombay). Shakaal is a sadistic villain who rejoices in pain of his enemies and traitors. Shiv gets progressively closer to the root of the crimes in the city. Shakaal kills an informant on his crew by feeding him to crocodiles on his private island. A mysterious man (Shatrughan Sinha) tries to assassinate Shiv Kumar twice in the city. Shiv survives both times. After the two attempts on his life, Vijay and Ravi advise him to find a different line of work, arguing that his profession is unpredictable, dangerous and unsuitable for a family man. Shiv stands firm, citing his undying patriotic commitment to his corps and his country. Shakaal has Shiv brought before him by kidnapping him from the city. He compliments Shiv on his wits and valor, and invites him to come to his side. True to his form, Shiv firmly refuses the offer. Shakaal tries to kill him, but Shiv breaks loose and tries to escape from the island. Shakaal unleashes wild dogs upon Shiv and eventually shoots him dead on the beach from a helicopter. As Vijay, Ravi and Sheetal lament their tragic loss, the mysterious man who tried to kill Shiv shows up. Sheetal angrily identifies him as the person she saw escaping at the carnival after the first attempt. The man introduces himself as Rakesh, a marksman and former circus performer who used to shoot targets blindfolded. He was recruited by Shakaal, to assassinate Shiv, by holding Rakesh's wife hostage. Rakesh confesses that he deliberately missed Shiv on the two previous instances, hoping it would buy him time to rescue his wife. On realizing this, an angry Shakaal killed his wife. Rakesh sought out Ravi and Vijay so they could work together to bring down Shakaal. The trio seek the aid of a homeless cripple, Abdul (Mazhar Khan) and manage to find and destroy Shakaal's contraband warehouse in the city. Finding that Abdul was providing Ravi and Vijay with information, Shakaal has his men kill him. Enraged with the destruction of his warehouses, Shakaal kidnaps Sheetal and has her brought to his island. Vijay, Ravi and Rakesh fume, knowing that Sheetal will almost certainly be killed and that they have no clue about the location of Shakaal's island. At this point, Jagmohan (Mac Mohan), another of Shakaal's aides who has been mercilessly crippled by him, offers his help to the group to gain entry to Shakaal's hideout. Posing as a musical troupe (a familiar stratagem in many Bollywood films), Vijay and Ravi (with Renu, Chacha/Uncle and Sunita) enter the island and perform for Shakaal. Shakaal, however, reveals that Jagmohan was sent by him to trap them. Jagmohan's fracture was a lie. Their cover is blown and they are captured. An elaborate sequence ensues as the three men escape. The trio and the widow avoid the booby traps (Vijay is dropped into a tank with the crocodiles and Ravi+Rakesh are in a poison gas filled enclosure fighting 2 of Shakaals men who have gas masks on) and the henchmen ultimately capture Shakaal and finally end his ignominious existence. Shakaal, with his dying breath, sets his island hideout to blow up, but the heroes escape via helicopter to safety.

Vijay, a simpleton and the lookalike of the notorious international criminal Don is hired by D'Silva, to be the mole in Don's gang and report the details of his illegal activities. However, things take a turn for the worse when D'Silva is killed.

They career is spent as false witnesses near the Bombay courts, where they get paid a set sum of rupees for false depositions. This changes when they meet and are influenced by Kabir Das, and decide to go straight. They find that it's virtually impossible to earn a living as honest citizens. Then Kabir Das is arrested and imprisoned by a murder he claims he did not commit, and the duo promise to help him, and find out who the real killer is, but they themselves end up getting in trouble.

Teja's family consists of himself, his wife, Sita, his brother, Shanker, and a son, Sunder. They all live happily. Things take a turn for the worse, when Sita passes away. Teja decides to re-marry, and he does so with Sonia, who comes to live with him at his palatial home with her brother, Laxmidas, with a devious agenda of taking over his property. Soon misunderstandings arise, and Shanker is asked to leave the house. Eventually these misunderstanding involve Sunder, who also is asked to leave the house by Teja, who thinks that his brother and son are consipiring against his newly-wedded wife. Years later, Sunder has grown up to be a conman, and Shanker a black-marketeer. Both Sunder and Shankar meet without knowing each other's identity, and a confrontation takes place. The poor woman Leela can't have a child herself and keeps one girl for herself when she sees that the rich woman has given birth to twins. Many yrs later, the rich couple are long since dead. Geeta, a feisty girl is raised in a poor neighborhood and is a street performer with Raka (Dharmendra), while Seeta is raised by her cruel aunt Chachi Kaushalya (Manorama) and meek uncle Badrinath (Satyendra Kapoor). Chachi treats Seeta like a servant, despite the fact that the family is living off her late parents' money. Seeta's only consolation is her old wheelchair bound grandmother (Pratima Devi). Kaushalya's daughter is Shiela (Honey Irani) who treats Seeta like her personal slave. Ranjeet (Roopesh Kumar) is Kaushalya's brother and lusts for Seeta and wants to sexually assault her. Kaushalya dresses up Seeta once a month when the trustee comes to give monthly allowance from her inheritance. Kaushalya will cease to be the guardian if Seeta gets married. One day Kaushalya removes Seeta's expensive Saree and forces her to parade half naked in the house in front of Ranjeet. Seeta is champion in all housework and very docile, but Geeta is street smart and knows no housework at all. Ravi (Sanjeev Kumar) is a wealthy doctor, who is looking for an "Indian" bride. The trustee suggests Seeta. When Kaushalya finds out, she dresses Sheila in an Indian attire and Seeta in a skimpy western attire for the meeting with Ravi and his parents. Ravi leaves when Seeta drops the tea tray after being tripped by Sheila. Grandmother emerges from her room and begs Ravi and her parents not to leave Seeta. One day, Seeta decides life is not worth living and runs away to commit suicide (The night after Ravi leaves, Ranjeet enters Seeta's room late at night and tries to sexually assault her. when Seeta screams Ranjeet accuses her of stealing his wallet and beats her with a belt). At the same time Geeta leaves home as Leela hits with a Jhaadoo for playing with kids instead of taking care of housework. Raka is worries about their performance and lack of resultant income. Badrinath reports Seeta's disappearance to the police. Seeta is saved by Raka but is mistaken for her identical twin Geeta and is taken to Geeta's home. Seeta finds motherly love in Leela and gladly accepts it. Meanwhile, Seeta's aunt and uncle are frantically searching for her and find Geeta. Geeta reports a street gambler to the police and the inspector identified her as Seeta based on report of Badrinath. The inspector, Badri and Kaushalya attempt to force Geeta to go with them but, using some of her clever tricks, she escapes them and the police who have been searching for her. She then meets Ravi (Sanjeev Kumar) and, though he also mistakes her for Seeta, she goes home with him. Ravi is surprised by this "Seeta" and the Seeta he had met previously. Geeta is then taken to Badri and Kaushalya's. Geeta realizes the cruelty that Seeta has been living under and vows to teach her aunt a lesson. Meanwhile, the real Seeta is living in Geeta's house. Her surrogate mother has attributed her new docile attitude to shock. Here, Seeta meets Raka (Dharmendra), Geeta's friend and fellow performer. Raka is also surprised by "Geeta's" sudden gentle nature and desire to do housework. When he tried to coax her into performing, she is unable to do so. Ravi meanwhile falls in love with Geeta. At home, Geeta begins to set everything on a proper course. She resumes control of the money and restores her grandmother to the head of the household (by giving her the keys to the house safe and giving her the head chair at the dinner table), where she belongs. Ravi proposes to Geeta, thinking she is Seeta. Raka begins to fall in love with Seeta. Trouble begins brewing when Chachi's brother Ranjeet returns home (he is also beaten up badly by Geeta by his own belt) and sees the real Seeta in a marketplace. He follows her and discovers the truth, which leads to a showdown in the villains' den. Seeta is abducted by Ranjeet. Ranjeet brings Raka to his house to expose Geeta. Ranjeet proves that Geeta is a street performer who wanted the riches of the house and a comfortable life by duping Ravi. Geeta is arrested by the police. Leela also comes and sees the photo of the rich couple of the wall and realizes the truth that Seeta and Geeta are sisters. Leela tells the truth to Raka. Raka rescues Geeta from jail. Ranjeet brings Ravi to his lair to treat Seeta, who has injured herself. Ranjeet wants to marry Seeta to become the legal heir of her wealth. Raka and Geeta track down Seeta and attack Ranjeet's lair. A fight ensues and Ranjeet is arrested. All is well.

Rajoo (Rajesh Khanna) and Sheetal (Hema Malini) are in love, and expecting some opposition from Rajoo's dad (Ajit), they marry in a simple temple ceremony. But Rajoo's dad vehemently opposes this marriage, and refuses to accept Sheetal. Then Rajoo is accidentally killed in a vehicle accident, leaving Sheetal pregnant and totally devastated. She eventually gives birth a baby boy Deepu (Master Alankar). Sheetal than seeks employment, and gets a job as a teacher. One of her students is a child named Muni, whose dad is a widower, Ravi (Shammi Kapoor). Since their circumstances are similiar, they become very close, and eventually decide to marry. But Ravi's mom )Achla Sachdev) objects to this marriage, and accuses Sheetal of being a woman of questionable means. In the meantime, a villager, Mahuva (Aruna Irani) commits suicide, and the villagers point the finger at Ravi, on whom Mahuva had a crush. Was Ravi two-timing Sheetal? —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

Rajesh Sharma, working with the Indian Government on a top secret research project, has to deal with enemy agents, explosions, murder and last but not least a dangerous look-alike. Police officer Rajesh is an expert in explosives and chemicals. He lives with his dog and his cook, and has a love interest in Rita. The department in which Rajesh works discovers that people are interested in stealing information about explosives from them, and start to guard against such an attack, but Rajesh is kidnapped and taken abroad. The kidnappers keep Rajesh imprisoned and send a look-alike, Jackoss, back to India to deceive the department. Jackoss is a non-Indian with blue eyes and a voice different from Rajesh's. To deceive Rajesh's department, he uses contact lenses and tells them that he lost his voice in the kidnapping. Rita believes him and accepts him as Rajesh, although she has some misgivings. Rajesh's dog and cook realise what has happened, so Jackoss kills them so they can't expose him. The authorities are also less trusting and do not allow Jackoss to enter the high-security zone until some other criminals help Jackoss to convince the authorities of his identity. Meanwhile Rajesh escapes and makes his way back to India. Jackoss had plans to blow up a laboratory, but Rajesh reaches it on time and foils his plan.
