In 1799 America, Peter Van Garrett writes and seals a series of documents, before fleeing the small Dutch hamlet of Sleepy Hollow with his son, Dirk. On the road, their carriage is overtaken by a lone rider who beheads Dirk, and follows Peter into a cornfield, where he is slain as well. Elsewhere in New York City, mild-mannered constable Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) comes at odds with his superiors due to his persistent arguments in favor of integrating modern scientific procedures into the American justice system. Crane, who suffers from severe religious trauma (caused by the torture and murder of his mother, a practitioner of benign witchcraft, at the hands of his father, a sadistic religious fanatic) abhors the torturous methods used to solve crimes, and advocates for early forensic science in its stead. To this end, the Burgomaster (Christopher Lee) dispatches him to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the Van Garretts' murders, as well as the murder of the local widow Emily Winship, who was also found beheaded. Arriving in Sleepy Hollow, Crane meets Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci) and her suitor Brom (Christopher Van Dien), and is welcomed by Katrina's father, Baltus (Michael Gambon), and stepmother, Mary (Miranda Richardson). Upstairs, Crane discusses the murders with Baltus and the other town elders: Reverend Steenwyck (Jeffrey Jones), Doctor Lancaster (Ian McDiarmid), Magistrate Samuel Philipse (Richard Griffiths), and Notary James Hardenbrook. The town believes that the murders are the work of Sleepy Hollow's local ghost story, the Headless Horseman. Baltus explains that the Horseman was once a bloodthirsty Hessian mercenary (Christopher Walken) who fought in the American revolutionary war, riding a great black steed and beheading his victims with a sword. When the Horseman was finally beaten, he was beheaded with his own sword and buried in the Hollow's western woods. The town believes the Horseman to have returned from the grave to slaughter its inhabitants, but Crane remains confident that the murderer is a mortal. The next morning, a fourth victim is found: Van Garrett's servant, Jonathan Masbath. Investigating the scene of the crime, Crane discovers that the wound was instantly cauterized, which the elders believe to be a sign of demonic force. At Masbath's funeral, Crane accepts his son, Young Masbath, into his service, and exhume the bodies of the Horseman's victims on a tip from Magistrate Philipse. Discovering a stab wound on Winship's body, Crane performs an autopsy on the widow and discovers that she was pregnant. That night, Crane is attacked by a headless rider in black, who turns out to be Brom playing a prank on him. Katrina takes Crane to the ruins of her family's old cottage, where the two begin to bond, and gives him a small spell-book for protection. Magistrate Philipse tries to flee, but is confronted by Crane, who interrogates him regarding his knowledge of Winship's pregnancy. The Headless Horseman suddenly appears and kills Philipse in front of Crane, riding into the woods with his head. Despite his initial terror, Crane volunteers to lead an expedition to the western woods, with Young Masbath the only one volunteering to accompany him. In the woods, Masbath mentions an argument that his father overheard between Peter Van Garrett and his son, and the two stumble upon the home of an old crone, who directs them to find the Headless Horseman's grave beneath the Tree of the Dead. Encountering Katrina along the way, the three reach the tree, which Crane deduces to be a gateway between the worlds of the living and the dead. Finding the Horseman's grave disturbed, Crane exhumes the body to find the skull missing. At that moment, the Horseman bursts from the base of the tree and rides for Sleepy Hollow, where he kills midwife Beth Killian (Claire Skinner) and her family. Unable to kill the Horseman, Brom is killed and Crane is stabbed. Recovering at the Van Tassels' house, Crane deduces that someone is using the Horseman's skull to summon and control him, and opens up to Katrina about his religious trauma. Suspecting a conspiracy, he confronts Notary Hardenbrook, and discovers that Peter Van Garrett secretly married Emily Winship, and made a new will that named the widow and her unborn child his sole beneficiaries. Realizing that Baltus stands the most to gain from the murders, Crane names him the prime suspect, as all those beheaded are either witnesses or beneficiaries to Van Garrett's will. That evening, Crane discovers the sign of the Evil Eye under his bed, and follows a hooded figure into the woods, who he discovers to be Lady Van Tassel in the middle of a sexual rendezvous in which she ritualistically cuts open her hand. The next day, Katrina burns the evidence against her father, and spurns Crane when he confronts her. Crane learns that Notary Hardenbrook has taken his own life. Reverend Steenwyck holds a meeting to discredit Crane, when Baltus rushes in declaring that the Horseman has killed Lady Van Tassel. The townsfolk shelter in the church, as the Horseman cannot enter. Steenwyck kills Doctor Lancaster when the latter confesses their conspiracy to Baltus, who shoots and kills Steenwyck in self-defense. The Horseman impales Baltus with a makeshift harpoon and drags him out of the church, beheading him. Crane finds that Katrina has drawn a large Evil Eye sigil on the church floor. Believing her to be in control of the Horseman, and unable to bring himself to accuse her, Crane leaves Sleepy Hollow. Crane discovers that the Evil Eye is actually a sigil of protection, and discovers the wound on "Lady Van Tassel's" body to have been inflicted post-mortem: the real Lady Van Tassel, having faked her death, abducts Katrina. At the town's old windmill, she reveals her true heritage as the daughter of an impoverished family who had been evicted by the Van Garrets. Making a pact with Satan, she summoned the Headless Horseman to kill those who had wronged her, and manipulated her way into the Van Tassel family while coercing the other elders into her plot. Having killed all beneficiaries and witnesses - as well as her sister, the crone who aided Crane and Masbath - Lady Van Tassel summons the Horseman to kill Katrina, the final obstacle between her and both the Van Garrett and Van Tassel estates. Crane arrives in the nick of time to save Katrina and Young Masbath, and the three destroy the windmill in an attempt to kill the Horseman. Fleeing to the Tree of the Dead, they are intercepted by Lady Van Tassel, who shoots Crane. Crane survives thanks to Katrina's spell-book taking the bullet, and manages to retrieve the Horseman's skull from Lady Van Tassel's possession. He returns it to the horseman just as Katrina is about to be killed, freeing him from his curse. The Horseman's head is restored, and he rides back to Hell, taking Lady Van Tassel with her. With the Headless Horseman's rampage ended, Crane, Katrina, and Young Masbath return to New York City.

Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves), a defense attorney in Gainesville, Florida, has never lost a case. He defends a schoolteacher, Mr. Gettys (Chris Bauer), against a charge of child molestation. During the trial, Kevin realizes that his client is guilty, and a reporter tells him that a guilty verdict is all but inevitable. Kevin had seen Mr Gettys making the same gesture under the desk as the girl was describing on the stand and had his other hand inside his pants while hearing the testimony as he relived the experience. Kevin has a decision to make on whether to continue defending Gettys. He asks the court for a short recess as he makes up his mind. In the end, Kevin decides to protect his perfect record. However, through a harsh cross-examination Kevin destroys the credibility of the victim (Heather Matarazzo) and secures another not guilty verdict. Kevin claims that the victim hosted a party at her home when her parents were away and played a game called special places with her friends. This game is sexual in nature, and this is when the victim first told her friends about Mr Gettys and then threatened her friends to also lie, else she would tell everyone about the party and the game. The victim admits that she didn't want to be the only one. As he celebrates, Kevin is approached by a representative of the New York law firm Milton, Chadwick & Waters, who offers him a large sum of money to help the firm with a jury selection. After Kevin's jury delivers a not guilty verdict, John Milton (Al Pacino) offers him a large salary and a swanky apartment if he joins the firm. Despite warnings from his Evangelical Christian mother, Alice (Judith Ivey), about sinful big city life, Kevin accepts the job and moves with his wife Mary Ann (Charlize Theron) to Manhattan. Kevin's Christian fundamentalist mother Alice, whose only sex was to conceive Kevin, urges the couple to return to Florida after meeting Milton. Kevin refuses. Kevin first defends a Voodoo sorcerer (Delroy Lindo) who ritually sacrificed an animal. He compares the incident to Kashrut law and claims that his client is protected under freedom of religion, winning the case. Kevin spends an increasing amount of time at work, leaving Mary Ann (Charlize Theron), his wife, feeling isolated. Kevin next defends Alexander Cullen (Craig T. Nelson), a billionaire accused of murdering his wife and child. This case demands more of Kevin's time, further separating him from Mary Ann. He begins having fantasies about co-worker Christabella Andreoli (Connie Nielsen), while Mary Ann shows signs of mental illness when she claims seeing demons everywhere and has a nightmare about a baby playing with her removed ovaries. After a doctor declares Mary Ann to be infertile, she begs Kevin that they return to Gainesville, but he refuses. Milton suggests that Kevin step down from the trial to care for Mary Ann, but Kevin thinks that he will resent her for costing the case for the firm. Eddie Barzoon (Jeffrey Jones), the firm's managing attorney, is convinced that Kevin is competing for his job after finding his name in the company papers as a partner. Although Kevin denies any knowledge, Barzoon threatens to inform the United States Attorney's office about the firm's illegal activities. Kevin tells Milton about Barzoon's threats, but Milton is unconcerned, sarcastically dismissing Barzoon as "God's special little creature". At that moment, Barzoon is beaten to death by vagrants, who take on demonic appearances. Mary Ann witnesses this, further eroding her sanity. While preparing Cullen's mistress Melissa (Laura Harrington) to testify about Cullen's alibi, Kevin realizes she is lying and tells Milton he believes Cullen is guilty. Milton offers to back Kevin regardless. Kevin decides to proceed with her testimony and wins an acquittal. After the trial Kevin finds Mary Ann in a nearby church, naked and covered with cuts. She tells her husband that Milton sexually assaulted and mutilated her, but Kevin saw Milton in court with him at the time of the alleged attack. He believes that Mary Ann injured herself and has her committed. United States Department of Justice agent Mitch Weaver, who is investigating the clandestine activities of Milton's firm, warns Kevin that Milton is corrupt, and also reveals that Gettys, acquitted in Florida, has been arrested for killing a little girl. Moments later, Weaver is struck by a car and killed. At the same time, while attending Eddie's funeral service, Milton sticks his finger into holy water and makes it boil. Kevin, his mother Alice, and his case manager, Pam Garrety (Debra Monk), Kevin's case manager at the firm, visit Mary Ann. Alone with Mary Ann, Pam appears as a demon through a mirror. Mary Ann attacks Pam with the mirror and locks herself in the room. As Kevin tries to break down the door, Mary Ann takes a piece of broken glass from the mirror and cuts her throat with it, killing herself. Before he can mourn, Alice reveals that Milton is Kevin's father. Kevin leaves the hospital to confront Milton, who gleefully admits to sexually assaulting Mary Ann. Kevin fires a pistol into Milton's chest, but the bullets have no effect. Kevin realizes that Milton is not only his father, but also Satan himself. Kevin blames Milton for everything that happened, but Milton explains that he merely "set the stage", and that Kevin could have left at any time. Kevin realizes that he always wanted to win, no matter the cost, and left Mary Ann behind. Milton explains that he wants Kevin and Christabella, who is Kevin's half-sister, to conceive a child: the Antichrist. He offers Kevin anything that he wants. However, rejecting his Satanic heritage, Kevin cites free will and shoots himself in the head, ruining Milton's plan. Milton's demonic rage burns Christabella alive, revealing his demonic form before turning into a winged angel that resembles Kevin. Kevin wakes up during the recess of the Gettys trial. After embracing Mary Ann, Kevin announces that he can no longer represent his client, despite the threat of being disbarred. A reporter follows Kevin and Mary Ann, pleading for an interview and promising to make Kevin a star. After some prodding from Mary Ann, Kevin reluctantly agrees. After Kevin and Mary Ann leave, the reporter shape-shifts into a grinning Milton. Breaking the fourth wall, he says, "Vanity - definitely my favorite sin."

Harry Crumb is a bumbling and inept private investigator who is hired to solve the kidnapping of a young heiress which he's not expected to solve because his employer is the mastermind behind the kidnapping. Harry is the latest generation of the Crumbs, famous and extremely talented detectives. Unfortunately, talent seems to have skipped a generation and Harry is reduced to "gumshoe" work at a remote branch of the Crumb Detective Agency. Back at headquarters, Crumb executive Elliot Draison hatches an evil plan which requires the inclusion of an incompetent detective. Popular high school student Ferris Bueller decides to skip school for a day galavanting around Chicago with his friends, all while the school principal tries to catch him in the act.

The film begins with Howard the Duck (voiced by Chip Zien), who lives in a parallel universe inhabited by anthropomorphic ducks. Howard spends his days smoking, drinking and reading the latest issue of Playduck. One day, as Howard relaxes in his armchair, it begins to quake violently and propels him out of his apartment building and into outer space. He eventually crosses dimensions and ends up in Cleveland, Ohio. Howard encounters a woman being attacked by thugs and decides to help her out with his unique brand of "Quack Fu". After the thugs scamper, the woman introduces herself as Beverly (Lea Thompson) and decides to take Howard into her apartment and let him spend the night. The next day, Beverly takes Howard to a supposed scientist named Phil Blumbertt (Tim Robbins), whom Beverly hopes can help Howard return to his world. As Phil is revealed to be only a janitor, Howard resigns himself to life on Earth and rejects Beverly's aid. Howard later lands a job cleaning up at a local romantic spa. Due to unfair treatment by his boss, Howard quits the job and returns to Beverly, who plays in a band called "Cherry Bomb". At the club Cherry Bomb is performing at, Howard comes across Cherry Bomb's manager and confronts him when he bad-mouths the band. A fight ensues, in which Howard is victorious. Howard rejoins Beverly backstage and accompanies her back to the apartment, where Beverly elects Howard to be Cherry Bomb's new manager. The two begin to flirt and almost engage in sexual intercourse, but are interrupted when Blumburtt and two of his colleagues, Doctor Walter Jenning (Jeffrey Jones) and Larry (David Paymer), arrive and reveal how Howard came to this world: earlier, the scientists have been working on a dimensional-jumping device that just happened to be aimed at Howard's universe and brought him to Earth when it was activated. They theorize that Howard can be sent back to his world through this same process, so they drive Howard to the lab planning to send him back. However, the device malfunctions upon being used a second time, arousing the possibility of something else being brought to Earth this time around. Around this time, Jenning's body is taken over by a lifeform from another alternate dimension. At a diner, the lifeform introduces itself as the "Dark Overlord" and demonstrates its developing mental powers by assassinating table condiments. Howard then gets into a fight when the truckers in the diner begin to insult him. The fight results in Howard's capture and near-decapitation at the hands of the diner chef. However, the truckers are scared off when the Dark Overlord destroys the cafe and kidnaps Beverly, escaping in an articulated truck. Meanwhile, Howard finds Phil and frees him from a police car. On the run, they discover a light aircraft, which they use to hunt down the Dark Overlord and Beverly. Having returned to the lab, the Dark Overlord ties Beverly down to a metal bed, hoping to transfer another Dark Overlord into her body with the dimension machine. Howard and Phil return to the lab and supposedly destroy the Dark Overlord with an experimental "neutron disintegrator" laser. However, the Dark Overlord reveals itself as a monstrous stop-motion creature, Howard fires the neutron disintegrator at the beast oblitirating it. All the while, the dimension machine is in the process of bringing more Dark Overlords to Earth, leaving Howard with no choice but to destroy the machine. This results in Howard's loss of a ride home, a decision he comes to accept as Earth is now safe. Howard becomes Beverly's manager and hires Phil as an employee on her tour.
