Sambhu and his wife Lata adopt his sister's son, Prem. During his student days, Prem and Khushi fall for each other. But her father is against their relationship and wants Khushi to marry the son of a rich builder. Heartbroken, Prem attempts suicide but survives somehow. The rest of the movie conveys how they fight to be together.

The film derives its name from sage Agastya, who had a tremendous control over his anger. The lead character also goes by the name Agastya, and he does not get agitated even under most difficult circumstances in life.

CI Shankar, who is also known as `Encounter Shankar`, gets posted in a small town called Bukkapattanam. This town is a troubled area because don Damodar rules the roost, threatening people to cooperate in his illegal business. When Shankar arrives, he starts halting Damodar`s illegal business and in the process, finds out that Damodar had attacked his family and begins to plan his revenge. In the meantime, Shankar falls in love with Saroja, a sweet-shop owner. How Shankar finally puts an end to Damodar and his gang with the help of Delhi Suri forms the crux of the story.

Jhilik scribbles sweet nothings on whatever material she finds, including vegetables and shirts. Her love story with Babu begins when she scribbles a sweet note on a bus going to a different city and is surprised to get a reply from someone at the other end. Babu, who is a happy-go-lucky guy, finds out that the messages that he gets and exchanges through the bus, are actually written by a girl. They exchange phone numbers in the same way, but the number gets washed off in the rain. Neither therefore knows the other`s identity. Meanwhile, Jhilik `s parents have arranged for her marriage to a rich boy. Will Jhilik and Babu ever meet in real life? What does fate have in store for them?
