Outside a church celebrating an Eastern Orthodox baptism in Pale, Bosnia, the Bosnian Finance Minister, a moderate pushing for peace in the ongoing Yugoslav Wars, is murdered. At a missile base in Kartaly (Chelyabinsk Oblast), Russia, ten nuclear warheads that belong to a SS-18 Satan ICBM are loaded onto a train for transport to a dismantling facility. However, Russian Army General Aleksandr Kodoroff (Aleksandr Baluev), along with a rogue Spetznaz unit, kills the soldiers on board while the train is on its way. The Spetznaz unit boards the train by jumping on to it from another train which was running on a parallel track. Kodoroff transfers nine warheads to this other train while they are running parallel to each other. Kodoroff then activates the timer on the remaining warhead and sends the transport on a collision course with a passenger train. Kodoroff hides his train inside a nearby tunnel to protect himself from the nuclear blast. First, the 2 trains collide and then a few minutes later. the 500-kiloton warhead eventually detonates, killing thousands of civilians and delaying an investigation of the accident. The detonation attracts the attention of the US government. Dr. Julia Kelly (Nicole Kidman), head of the NSC Nuclear Smuggling Group, believes that Chechen terrorists are behind the incident. Terry Hamilton (Gary Werntz) is the National Security Advisor and Appleton (Holt McCallany) is Julia's immediate boss. Julia tells Terry that the nuclear blast occurred 4.5 minutes after the trains collided (as captured by satellite imagery) and is 100% sure that a nuclear detonate cannot be triggered by a train collision. Which means that someone deliberately set off a nuclear explosion. Meanwhile, Kodoroff transfers the warheads from the train onto a waiting truck for transport through the Ural Mountains. The truck is disguised as a Red Cross vehicle as they are allowed to cross borders under the Russian nuclear protocol. Former US Army Ranger and Special Forces turned Military Intelligence Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Devoe (George Clooney) interrupts her briefing to suggest that the incident was staged to hide the hijacking of the warheads (satellite photos indicated people jumping off the passenger train before the collision, but nobody jumping off the warhead train as they were all dead). A functioning nuke is worth $200 million on the open market. Julia realizes that she does not know how many nuclear warheads were on the train. Russian nuclear command confirms that there were 10 nuclear warheads and a list of military personnel who were on the train. Devoe is shocked to see Kodoroff's name on the list as that would be like Ivanka Trump riding the subway. Kodoroff is deemed alive as intel confirms that someone has been calling his mistress in Helsinki, at the usual time that Kodoroff calls her daily. A call to Devoe's friend and Russian counterpart, FSB Colonel Dimitri Vertikoff (Armin Mueller-Stahl), adds reliability to his theory, and he is assigned as Kelly's military liaison. Kelly and Devoe secure information about the terrorists' hijacking operation through an Austrian trucking company that works as a front for the Russian Mafia. They meet Vertikoff in Vienna and assume identities to visit Shummaker (Alexander Strobele), who organizes the Russian's trucking. After Devoe tortures Shummaker for information (and takes information from his computer), he and Kelly leave the building and get in Vertikoff's car. They are chased by Shumaker's men, who kill Vertikoff while he is offering a bribe. Devoe shoots at the attackers and drives away but finds he and Kelly are being followed. Another chase ensues, followed by a crash, but Devoe and Kelly escape, after Devoe kills all the men involved in Vertikoff's death. Information from the trucking company says that the nukes are going to Iran via Azerbaijan. When US spy satellites place the truck in a traffic jam of refugees in Dagestan, Devoe uses a ruse to identify it. He calls Kodoroff directly, who was riding in the truck, and makes him believe that a missile his headed for his position. Kodoroff panics and moves the truck, which is picked up by American satellites. This information is passed on to Russian authorities in hopes of stopping the transfer to Iran. The Russian military stops Kodoroff at a roadblock, but he and his men kill the soldiers. Devoe leads an airborne Special Operations team from a U.S. base in Turkey to stop them. Denied entry into Russian airspace in Azerbaijan, one of the three Special Ops helicopters is shot down by a Russian missile, but the remaining two manage to locate Kodoroff's truck. Firing missiles which disable Kodoroff's truck, they then engage in a gunfight, killing Kodoroff and securing the warheads. However, interrogation of the group's surviving member, a U.S. educated Pakistani nuclear scientist Amir Taraki (Harsh Nayyar), reveals that one warhead had been sent off with an operative before the truck was intercepted. The scientist says that the last warhead is now mobile and fits inside a regular backpack. Julia knows that a mobile primary will still take out 10 city blocks and kill 100,000 people in a densely populated are with a yield of 1 to 2 KT. The information from the trucking company leads IFOR to a Sarajevo address. Inside is a video cassette of Dusan Gavric (Marcel Iures), a Bosnian who disclaims allegiance to any particular faction in the Yugoslav Wars, but blames other countries for supplying weapons to all sides in the conflict. Kelly's further analysis of the trucking company documents suggests that Gavric intends to bomb a meeting at the UN headquarters in NYC. The invoice had a code 44E, which Julia translates to 44th East, which is the address of the UN building in NYC. Gavric arrives in Manhattan with the Bosnian diplomatic delegation, having replaced the murdered Finance Minister. Gavric actually wants to avenge the death of his wife and daughter, who died in Sarajevo during a sniper attack. Julia orders the shutdown of all airports in the US, but Gravic makes it out as he was travelling on a diplomatic passport and smuggled the nuclear bomb in the same way. Julia tracks the Bosnian delegation's hotel, but Gravic had left by then. She knows that the backpack is leaking radiation and orders trackers on all streets. A copter picks up the radiation source. Gravic and his brother are later found by Devoe and Kelly. When his brother is killed by Devoe, a wounded and enraged Gavric flees into a parochial school. Devoe and Kelly confront Gavric, who commits suicide, knowing that the bomb is set to go off in minutes. With only seconds to spare, Dr. Kelly manages to remove part of the bomb's explosive lens shell and stop the primary explosion from establishing critical mass within the plutonium core. The primary explosives detonate, wrecking the church, as Devoe and Kelly dive out of a window. However, Kelly's efforts prevent it from causing a nuclear explosion. Kelly later is seen swimming laps in a pool. Devoe stops by and asks her out for a drink, which she accepts.

In 1965, photographer Robert Kincaid asks housewife Francesca Johnson for directions, an encounter which blossoms into a few days that will stay with them for their whole lives.

Ever-so-virginal Tanya Robertson [Madchen Amick] is working at the local theater in Travis, Indiana when sleepwalker Charles Brady [Brian Krause], a new student who just transferred from Paradise Falls, Ohio, comes to see the double bill (They Bite and Scream Dream). She's pretty, he's cute; they make a date to shoot photos together at Homeland Cemetery. While driving home from school, Charles is stopped by his English teacher, Mr Fallows [Glenn Shalix], who tries to blackmail Charles on grounds that there is no such place as Paradise Falls in Ohio and that Charles' transcripts are fake. Charles responds by ripping off Fallows' hand and killing him. Charles continues on, driving at breakneck speed past Sheriff Andy Simpson [Dan Martin]. Charles is having fun trying to outrun the law, until Andy's cat Clovis pops his head up and looks out the window. Charles' face suddenly shifts into his catform and then back to human, confusing Andy. When it looks like Charles isn't going to outrun Andy, he pulls off the road and makes his car go invisible. However, Clovis can still see Charles, which upsets Charles greatly. When Andy finally gives up the chase, Charles makes his car turn from blue to red and drives home. Cats are beginning to amass in the Brady's yard. They've set traps, but some cats seem impervious to them. 'It's starting again,' Charles tells his mom, remembering all the previous places they've tried to live but been discovered and driven out. Mary Brady's [Alice Krige] concern, however, is with the fact that she is starving. When is Charles going to bring her the nourishment she needs? 'Tomorrow,' Charles promises. Tanya is looking forward to her date with Charles. She's even packed a picnic lunch, along with a bottle of wine which she hides from her parents. As Charles makes grave rubbings, Tanya takes photos of both the graves and of Charles. Everything is hunkydory until, while engaged in a bit of kissing, Charles starts to suck out Tanya's breath. Tanya manages to clout him in the head with her camera, but he doesn't stay knocked out for long. When he tries again to steal her breath, she skewers his eyeball with a corkscrew. Meanwhile, Charles' car has turned back to its original color, just as Andy and Clovis drive by. When Andy stops to investigate, Tanya comes running out of the cemetery, Charles in pursuit. As Andy tries to calm Tanya down, Charles rams a pencil into Andy's ear. Charles attempts once more to take away Tanya's breath, but Andy shoots him in the back. Undaunted, Charles takes the gun from Andy and shoots him with it. Back to Tanya. Just when it looks like Charles is going to win, Clovis leaps at Charles' head and begins biting him. Tanya climbs in the squad car, locks all the doors, and frantically tries to get a message through to the dispatcher. Charles manages to get the cat off his face and speeds away in his blue car. The police arrive [look for Stephen King's cameo as the cemetery caretaker]) and take Tanya home. They don't quite buy her story about Charles arriving in a red car and leaving in a blue car nor about his face changing, but they do take her camera to develop the pictures she took of Charles. Charles is in a bad way. When he gets home, his mother tries to care for him, but she also has troubles. The yard is full of cats, and now the police have arrived, looking for Charles. She decides that the best course of action is to make the car, Charles, and herself invisible, just as the police break down her front door. While Tanya languishes in a bubblebath, Mary Brady comes to the Robertsons' front door, bearing a bouquet of roses. When Mr Robertson [Lyman Ward] tries to turn her away, Mary breaks the vase and cuts his face with the glass. When Mrs Robertson [Cindy Pickett] comes in from the kitchen to see what all the commotion is about, Mary tosses her out the window. When Deputy Horace [Monty Bane] comes in from the kitchen (where he was eating some of Mrs Robertson's home-cooked corn-on-the-cob), he fires at Mary but misses badly. When he returns to the kitchen to call headquarters for reinforcements, Mary stabs him in the back with an ear of corn. When Tanya comes downstairs to see what's going on, Mary knocks her out cold and carries her outside. More police are arriving, including Captain Ira Soames [Ron Perlman], State Police. He pointedly tells Mary to put Tanya down, so Mary bites off three of his fingers. Using Soames' gun, she shoots two of the patrol cars, causing them to burst into flames. She hoists Tanya into the third car and drives home. When she arrives, she finds that her house and yard are crawling with cats... millions and billions and trillions of cats. While Mary is forcing Tanya to dance with Charles, who is near death, the police are sneaking up on the Brady house. When Charles tries to feed on Tanya's breath, she pokes out Charles' eyes with her fingers. Mary is irate. 'You killed my only son,' she screams at Tanya. Clovis and the police break in, also letting in some cats who leap on Mary. She fights them off while the policeman tries to get Tanya out of there. Mary catches up with them, killing the policeman by impaling him on a picket fence. Tanya jumps into the patrol car and tries to get it started. Mary, in cat form, breaks the window and attempts to pull Tanya from the car. Cats start leaping on Mary... millions and billions and trillions of cats (anyone recognize the reference? Hint: It's a classic children's book). For some reason, the biting cats cause Mary to burst into flames. Engulfed in fire, Mary takes human form long enough to leap on the patrol car windshield and scream at Tanya one last time, 'You killed my son... my only son.' As Mary burns up in the driveway, Clovis jumps into the car with Tanya. As Tanya hugs Clovis, the other cats start leaving, there being nothing more there for them. [Original Synopsis by bj_kuehl]

Whilst involved in an undercover operation to entrap Manning, his partner gets killed, and a sinister newcomer enters the scene. Along with F.B.I. agent Lawrence Smith, the two investigate a spate of mysterious deaths; normal non-junkies dying of massive heroin overdoses and bearing the same horrific puncture marks on the forehead. This, coupled with Caine's own evidence, indicates an alien force is present on the streets of Houston, killing and gathering stocks of a rare drug found only in the brain. Andie comes from a poor home, is a bit of an outcast at school and works at a record store. She takes care of her dad, who is still a bit lost after being left by Andie's Mom years ago. Duckie is her best friend who has secretly been in love with her since childhood. Enter Blaine, A popular rich kid who is interested in Andie despite the social pressure from his friends. After a couple days of flirting Blaine eventually asks Andie out, much to Duckie's disappointment. Andie is initially very excited but feels out of place when Blaine takes her to a party and his friends are less then accepting. They leave and go to one of Andie's favorite hangouts, A bar with live music, but the Blaine gets a less the welcome reception from Duckie. Despite the social world differences the two want to make it work and Blaine asks Andie to Prom. Blaine's douche bag friend Steff get's to him though and Blaine backs out of the prom date. Andie eventually decides to go anyways, is meet there by Duckie, and they reconcile their friendship. Blaine realizes he was wrong and apologies to Andie, Duckie relents and tells her to go after him, and Andie and Blaine make up and out in the parking lot and everything is golden in 80's teen romance land.
