A forty-something, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living a dream-good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart until he learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce and he sees his ``perfect`` life come tumbling down. As he tries unravel the secrets of the eerie island, Teddy begins to doubt everything, from his memory to his partner, and fights to hold on to his own sanity.
