Karan, however, falls for Tanya (Esha Deol), the new admission in college. Meanwhile, Professor Bakshi (Rishi Kapoor), who is rumored to have murdered his wife and hidden her body, is reinstated at the college. When Karan falls for Tanya, a playboy named Yash (Yash Tonk) befriends him and helps his way through Tanya's heart. Yash is Tanya's friend, but loves Natasha who is Karan's friend (so this is a give and take type situation). Karan finds every opportunity to impress Tanya (Kidnaps the sports teacher to get on the basketball team, Yash allows Karan to dance with Tanya at the prom fully knowing that Karan cant dance), but fails every time. Meanwhile Natasha watches silently & sadly, but she is pissed to know that Karan is trying to set her up with Yash. Meanwhile it is shown that a boy enters Bakshi's house to ask for his help and ends up finding something in his basement and is super scared. The next night he is chased around in the college by a masked assassin with a knife and hanged to death. Meanwhile at the final exams, Yash begs Karan to let him cheat, but Bakshi is the class monitor and is watching the 2 intently. He is about to catch Karan passing sheets to Yash, but Tanya takes the blame and flunks out. Karan is ashamed and decides to break into Bakshi's house to switch Tanya's answer sheet, so she can pass easily. Natasha tries to stop Karan, but he adamant. Together Karan, Natasha and Yash along with two other friends, Pat (Vrajesh Hirjee) and Kush, sneak inside Professor Bakshi's house to retrieve the exam papers so Tanya's year won't be a waste. They enter when they see Bakshi leave the house. Tanya comes to try and stop them (Natasha had told her what Karan was about to do). When they find a woman's dead body there, they try to run away in Tanya's car and she is driving. It is raining heavily and their car accidentally hits Professor Bakshi and he falls down the cliff. Fearing arrest, they run away. Tanya is traumatized by these events (She finds a intruder in her car who tries to kill her, but nobody believes her version of the stories), and leaves to start a new life. The friends are scattered. Years later, Tanya, Karan and their group have a reunion at the wedding of one of their friends (Kush with Dolly) in Shimla (the site of their old college). Karan is now engaged to Natasha, but is super happy to see Tanya at the wedding. Meanwhile when Pat arrives he is shaken to the core as he thinks he saw Prog Bakshi at the railway station. As soon as Tanya and Karan get together they start spending time together. Tanya doesn't know that Karan is engaged to Natasha and admits to her that she still has feelings for him. Pat is certain that he saw Bakshi and so the friends go his house and find nothing and nobody there. But they miss a burning cigarette and a half peg of whiskey. However, a killer is lurking somewhere nearby and is waiting to strike. And one by one they start to die: Pat, Dolly and Kush are all killed, while Yash is attacked, but miraculously survives. Eventually, only three are left. When Yash is attacked again, Karan follows who appears to be Professor Bakshi. Karan finds that Bakshi is alive. He wanted to kill Tanya only because she was the one who hit him that night. Bakshi admits to killing his wife and keeping her body in his basement (many yrs ago) as he wanted to be with her forever and she wanted to leave him as she thought Bakshi is mad. Bakshi spent the last 3 yrs hiding from the police, and took this opportunity to eliminate everyone, when they came to attend Kush and Dolly's wedding. He admits to killing Pat and Yash. But not Dolly. Karan finds someone else being attacked while Bakshi is with him. He leaves to find Khush attacked, and Khush says "Tanya" as he holds a piece of red fabric. Karan thinks Tanya is about to kill Natasha. Karan follows a car which has Natasha and Tanya in it to a cliff, and finds Natasha injured. Natasha tells him that Professor Bakshi had brought her and Tanya here. Karan realizes she is lying, as Professor Bakshi was with him, and also realizes the piece of fabric Khush had in his hand came off Natasha's scarf. He asks Natasha why she attacked everyone, and she claims it because she loved him. She begs him to forgive her, but he is speechless. She says that after finding this out, he won't forgive her, so she walks backwards in the snow and falls off the edge, yelling Karan's name. He runs to save her, but is unsuccessful, and her scarf blows into his face. On the first day of college, Karan remembers each of his friends who died, including Natasha. While on the plane back to Delhi, he meets Tanya again, and they decide to be with each other, while they find Yash in the back seat.

Raj gets a job at the polo club, where Priya's dad (Dalip Tahil) is the chairman. They marry and reside in Switzerland, where they meet another Indian couple: Vikram (Akshay Kumar) and Sonia (Bipasha Basu). The couples quickly become friends and decide to go on a Christmas vacation together to Mauritius. Raj was against going to Mauritius as he is not as wealthy as Vikram. But Vikram fakes an accident and gets a payout of $50K on his accident insurance policy and offers that money to Raj to convince him to come. Priya insists that Raj should go, Raj agrees to wants to pay for his own and Priya's expenses. During their vacation, Raj sees Vikram with another woman, kissing and looking intimate. At the same time, Sonia begins to try to seduce Raj, who rejects her. Vikram notices Raj looking at Sonia and casually talks to him about wife swapping and Vicky casually suggests Raj to enjoy with Sonia and asks whether he (Vicky )could enjoy with Priya overnight , this upsets Raj and an argument breaks out between the two men. Raj takes Priya away from Mauritius. However, a couple of days later Vikram and Sonia also return, Raj & Vikram they resolve their issues and become friends again (Raj saves Vikram's life when a car falls on him when he was working under it for repairs). On Vikram's birthday, the two men celebrate by getting drunk together, sharing bottles of alcohol. Once again, Vikram asks whether he could become Raj for one night, which Raj rebuffs, but still, both men end up in opposite houses. The next day Raj wakes up to find a semi-naked woman in bed and realizes he is in Vicky's house. After talking to Priya about the events from last night, he imagines Vicky was able to seduce and convince Priya to go ahead with his wife swapping and making passionate love throughout the night (Although Priya never said anything to that effect, but her half sentences gave that impression). After some time, Sonia is found dead, and Raj is accused of her murder by Vikram saying that Raj spent the whole night with Sonia and additionally his fingerprints are found on the murder weapon - an alcohol bottle. Priya is shocked as she never did anything with Vikram. In jail, Vikram visits Raj and offers him 14 Lakh dollars if he admits to killing Sonia and takes the punishment of life imprisonment (14 yrs). In court Vikram says that Raj took him to the airport bar after leaving the wives at home. But neither had money, so Raj went back to bring his wallet, but instead went into Vikram's house to sexually assault Sonia. Sonia resisted and Raj killed her. However, one of Raj's neighbors is also in court and he remembers seeing that 2 men entered Vikram's house and not one. Raj alleges in court that he went into Vikram's house to warn Sonia about his errant behavior, but then passed out. Determined to prove his innocence, Raj manages to escape from the court and is chased by the Swiss police. He meets Priya, who eventually believes his innocence and aids him in finding out what really happened. Raj tells Priya that he never went to the airport bar with Vikram and wants to prove this. They meet their neighbor who tells Raj that Vikram left alone that night. But later that night 2 men returned to Vikram's house (when Raj was already inside). He decides to search Vikram's house, only to be interrupted by Vikram, who calls the police and then reveals that everything was planned in advance. Raj escapes in Vikram's car with Priya. Raj finds a boarding pass that belongs to Sonia Bajaj from her book in Vikram's car, which states that Sonia arrived in Zurich on 29 December - however, Sonia was supposedly murdered on that night. Raj suspects her to be the woman he saw with Vikram, traveling to Geneva together. In Geneva, Priya finds the address of the woman who bought the ticket to Zurich for the 29th Dec. At her house, Raj finds an insurance officer who is trying to find evidence that Vikram was involved in the death of his wife, in order to receive her life insurance payment of $100 million. Working with the insurance agent, Raj traces Vikram to a cruise ship. There, he sees Vikram dancing with a woman who is revealed to be 'Sonia', alive and well. Raj confronts Vikram, who finally explains the whole devious plan - the woman whom he kissed in Mauritius was his actual wife Sonia Bajaj (Mink Brar), while the woman with him that Priya and Raj were introduced to in Switzerland is his girlfriend Neeta. Vikram, a struggling musician, married the wealthy and glamorous Sonia and convinced her to take out an insurance plan of $100 million on herself. That night, Vikram went to the airport to pick up the real Sonia. He went to the bar to get a witness that he was there, and slipped out to take Sonia home. The neighbor saw Vikram and Soni entering Vikram's house. Vikram used Raj's champagne bottle to kill Sonia and disfigure her face. Then he put Neeta on the flight to Geneva and went back to the airport bar to stay there till the morning. Vikram boasts about having pinned the murder on Raj. However, Raj takes Vikram to a computer and shows him his empty bank account. Raj says that he had guessed the password, "Everything is planned", something that Vikram used to say a lot, and used it to transfer the money back to the insurance company. Raj also reveals that everything Vikram said had been recorded. A fight erupts between the two and Neeta dies in the conflict. Angered at losing Neeta, Vikram gets aggressive, killing the insurance officer and seemingly kills Raj. He chases Priya to kill her too, but Raj is able to save her. Vikram dies when he is impaled by an anchor from the cruise ship. Raj and Priya return to India in the end.

Dr Balraj Chopra (Prem Chopra) is the family physician. Raj and Priya meet at a wedding, where Raj gets the impression that Priya has a child. In reality the child belonged to Priya's sister-in-law (Sheela Sharma). Kailashnath dearly wants Raj to get married. Priya's sister-in-law reaches out to Kailashnath for a meeting between the families. After a misunderstanding, where Raj understands Priya's sister-in-law to be his prospective bride, all doubts are cleared and the marriage is set. They get married and soon Priya gets pregnant. Soon after, Priya trips, miscarries, and becomes permanently infertile. On the doctor's advice, the couple conceal this fact from their family. Kailash has had 2 heart attacks already and he would not be able to take the strain of another attack. Priya knows how much a child means to the family. Raj says that they will adopt a child while they are abroad, but Priya says that an adopted kid will never look anything like Raj. Priya wants Raj to marry again, but he refuses. Priya convinces Raj to have a child with another woman. They decide to secretly look for a surrogate mother to bear Raj's child. No normal girl would agree to Raj's inquires on the matter. Raj forms a business partnership with Ajay Sharma (Adi Irani), who will market all of Raj's products in Europe. Raj meets Madhubala aka Madhu (Preity Zinta), a prostitute whom he brings to a hotel room. He discusses his situation with Madhu, who agrees to have Raj's baby, for the Rs 10 Lakh compensation offered by Raj. Raj lodges Madhu in a 5-star hotel. But Madhu is very raw and loud. She is rejected by the entire elite ecosystem. Ajay sees Raj with Priya and understands that he has hired a prostitute. After some much-needed grooming (He makes Madhu give up smoking and changes her entire wardrobe. He teaches her how to use cutlery, and gives her a makeover), Madhu meets Priya--who will be left unaware that Madhu was a prostitute--and the three depart for Switzerland together to carry out their plan. Priya stays in the guest room and asks Raj to sleep with Madhu. But Raj sleeps on the couch. One night, in a heavy snowstorm, Priya makes sure that she gets in a church, giving the entire night to Raj and Madhu alone in the house. Raj finally has sex with Madhu. Soon Madhu is pregnant with Raj's child, and he happily tells his family that Priya is expecting. Ajay is in Switzerland as part of the business deal with Raj. Ajay starts sexually harassing Madhu until she's ready to leave, upset at the thought that Raj told his friend that she is a prostitute (he didn't). Although Priya finds out about Madhu's past, she still believes that Madhu should carry their child, and she begs her to stay. Finally, the partner assaults Madhu while (he thinks) she's home alone, but Raj returns in time to save her. Overwhelmed by Raj's kindness, Madhu falls in love with him. Raj's family suddenly arrives in Switzerland. While Priya reaches for pregnancy-simulating pillows, the family meet the heavily pregnant Madhu and Raj tells them that she's a friend who's staying with him and Priya while her husband is business-traveling. The whole family takes the same care of Madhu, as they do for Priya. Madhu is emotional at being treated as a part of such a loving and caring family. Raj's grandfather Kailashnath Malhotra (Amrish Puri) arranges a religious ceremony and tells Raj and Priya that they are going back to India; this also includes Madhu. The ceremony is very important, so Priya sends Madhu dressed as herself and her face fully covered. The emotion at the ceremony is too much for Madhu and she becomes conflicted about giving up her child. Priya finds Madhu's room empty and the money dumped on the bed, and pursues her to the train station, only to slap Madhu when she confesses that she loves Raj. By the time Raj gets there, Madhu has gone into premature labor. The doctor announces that only one--Madhu or her child--can be saved, and Priya asks him to save Madhu. However, both mother and baby survive and seem likely to thrive. Madhu gives the baby to Priya, who quickly settles into a hospital bed with "her" baby. The doctor tells the family that Madhu's child was stillborn. When Madhu is ready to leave, she promises Raj that she won't go back to prostitution. When he takes her to the airport, he realizes that she loved him and kisses her forehead. Madhu leaves happily, ready, and able to start fresh, as Raj and Priya start their own new lives as thankful and proud parents.

The film starts with Gajraj told by his accomplices that one journalist is writing stuff against him, so he orders Karan to kill him. Karan kills that journalist in a market full of people including Kajal and his father standing in the crowd who witnessed the whole merciless tragedy. Kajal's father reports the crime being the eyewitness, to police. When Karan got to know about the report, he enters Kajal's house and starts beating her father. In order to protect her father and stop Karan, she slaps him. For the first time, Karan notices her and gets in eye contact with her which stopped him (as he got stuck with beauty and charm in her eyes). And then Karan goes to Tulsi (Tabu), a prostitute in one brothel where he is not able to forget Kajal's eyes and in frustration leaves the brothel. Karan starts stalking her and when she is stopped by him in a temple. Kajal felt disgraced, faced her fear and without being scared, lashed out on him by criticizing his behavior and thinking that he wants to fulfill his lust for her, after listening to which Karan feels disgusted and leaves the temple. Karen's soft side is depicted where he saved one child, named Timepass, being mistreated by customers at a bar and took that child with him to his place after knowing that he is an orphan and lives on streets and works to survive which shows the reason of his present state, and why he wants to save the child from the horrors of life, and save that child's childhood which Karan had lost. After, Kajal and some other women are on a bus and are being harassed by some goons from which Karan saves them and hands over the goons to the police. After witnessing his courage and goodness in Karan to do the right thing, Kajal becomes infatuated with him and gets interested in him. Kajal becomes friends with Timepass from whom she gets to know Karan more and wants to be friends with him. Kajal does not know about this fact. She gets to know about it when she is told by his father about the marriage plans with Raju. She confessed to her father about her love for Karan and refuses to marry Raju, after listening to this and thinking about her afterlife with a goon, her father suffers a major heart attack. To save her father, being the righteous girl and thinking it is her duty towards her father, she agrees to marry Raju. Karan gets furious with this and goes to Kajal's house to beg for her love but Kajal disclaims her love and backs out and asks him to forget her and never to return. Kajal considers the circumstances that how she was helpless to be with Karan and in saving her father's life, she realizes that she should not dwell in her past and it is best now that she should accept the truth and move on. (Again, this shows her power to sacrifice her wishes to do what is morally right for her and what she is supposed to do). Kajal marries Raju. Karan fails to prevent the marriage and is upset, so he returns to a criminal lifestyle. Kajal promises to her father while bidding adieu that she will fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a wife in true and every sense. Raju and Kajal go to their honeymoon and in front of Raju's late mother's photograph, Raju confessed his passionate love for Kajal for years.
