US troops were deployed to Afghanistan in Oct 2001, after the 9/11 attacks. Initially only 1300 troops were assigned, but by December 2011 this had increased to 98,000 troops. 50,000 Afghans were employed as interpreters under the agreement that they would be eligible for Special Immigration Visas and relocation to America. The interpreters are regarded as traitors by the locals and the Taliban for collaborating with the enemy. In March 2018, in the middle of the War in Afghanistan, U.S. Army Special Forces Master Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) and his unit are ambushed by a truck bomb attack orchestrated by the Taliban during a routine vehicle inspection at Lashkargah, which claims the life of his interpreter. In need of a replacement, he is introduced to Ahmed Abdullah (Dar Salim), a steadfast yet disliked interpreter, who claims he pursues the job only for money. During an undercover capture mission, Kinley learns that Ahmed was previously affiliated with the Taliban through the opium trade but had defected when the organization murdered his son. Kinley's unit is tasked with searching of all potential locations with suspected Taliban personnel or IED factories. Ahmed is very well connected locally and tells Kinley that he is searching the wrong locations as US intel is not very good. Kinley feels that he is putting his team in danger everyday for no output. He speaks to his CO colonel Vokes, who informally asks Kinley to go after targets not fully investigated, a list of whom is supplied by Sgt. Declan O'Brady (Alexander Ludwig). Ahmed later saves Kinley's team from being ambushed by a Taliban unit aided by a compromised Afghan National Army soldier, earning Kinley's respect. Ahmed smelled the ambush when the Afghan solider led them on a particular road, and Ahmed got Kinley to stop the convoy. Satellite pictures reveal a ambush lined up 8 Kilometers down the road. Kinley's team includes Charlie "Jizzy" Crow (Sean Sagar), Joshua "JJ" Jung (Jason Wong), Tom 'Tom Cat' Hancock (Rhys Yates), Eduardo "Chow Chow" Lopez (Christian Ochoa), Steve Kersher (Bobby Schofield) and Jack "Jack Jack" Jackson (James Nelson-Joyce). Ahmed is shown to be married to Basira (Fariba Sheikhan) with a kid on the way. During another raid to check for a possible insurgent arms cache about 120 kilometers (74 miles) north of Bagram Air Base, Kinley's unit is attacked by Taliban reinforcements, who kill everyone except for him and Ahmed. Kinley's unit has requested air support when they discovered arms, but air cover was 15 minutes out when they were attacked. The duo manages to escape on a Taliban truck, killing several Taliban fighters in the process. The truck gets a flat, and Kinley cannot contact his base as the radio is out of range. Kinley and Ahmed are forced to abandon the truck and escape on foot, killing their pursuers in the process. The helicopters from base reach the original location and find 40 Taliban bodies and the bodies of the dead US soldiers minus Ahmed and Kinley. Whilst attempting to return to the airbase by navigating through the mountainous Afghan terrain, they are once again ambushed by insurgents, who manage to wound Kinley, before clubbing him with a rifle butt, incapacitating him. Ahmed manages to kill the Taliban and resolves to take Kinley back to the air base. Receiving help from some sympathetic Afghans, Ahmed evades the Taliban hunting them, carrying Kinley over the country's treacherous mountain topography. Several days later Ahmed and Kinley are near Bagram but are attacked by Taliban fighters; Ahmed kills the fighters but is shortly thereafter apprehended by U.S. troops. Three weeks later, Kinley, having been repatriated to his home in Santa Clarita, California, is completely unaware of how he was saved, but understands Ahmed's role in it. Kinley married to his wife Caroline (Emily Beecham) and has 2 kids. Upon learning that Ahmed and his family were forced to move underground owing to the duo's escapade having become local folklore (The Taliban have put a heavy price on Ahmed's head and is on their top 10 most wanted list), Kinley attempts to procure U.S. visas for them for over a month, but in vain. Emotionally tormented and rendered near sleepless by his inability to repay his indebtedness towards Ahmed, Kinley finally resolves to save him himself, enlisting the assistance of his superior, Lieutenant Colonel Vokes (Jonny Lee Miller), to procure the visas. Returning to Afghanistan under the alias of Ron Kay, Kinley meets with Parker (Antony Starr), a private military contractor, who promises to provide support on the condition that the former locates Ahmed first. But Kinley has to find Ahmed alone. Meanwhile Ahmed is being actively hunted by the Taliban, and he has to move frequently with his family to survive. Kinley meets Ahmed's brother Ali, a Taliban supplier who manages to smuggle Kinley across their territory; in the process, he kills two insurgents after nearly being caught at a road checkpoint, which alerts the Taliban with the sound of gunfire that echoes through the mountains. Vokes informs Kinley that the visas have been processed and are with Parker. Finally arriving at Ahmed's hideout, Kinley persuades him and his family to accompany him to the U.S. Meanwhile, Parker deduces Kinley's true identity; realizing the danger that the duo is in due to their value to the Taliban, he arranges for an AC-130 gunship and an Apache attack helicopter to provide air support. Concurrently, the Taliban mount an attack on Kinley, who manages to escape with Ahmed's family to the nearby Darunta Dam which is the extraction point designated by Parker. Cornered by approaching Taliban units, the duo engages them in a protracted gunfight, which ends when they run out of ammunition. However, the AC-130 and Apache helicopter arrive and wipe out the attackers. Parker arrives from the other end of the dam with a relief column of anti-Taliban technical personnel. He tells Kinley he would have supported his mission gratis had he known upfront it was him. Escorted back to Bagram, the group boards an Airbus A400M leaving Afghanistan. The film's ending title states that in the aftermath of the Taliban's recapture of Afghanistan, over 300 Afghan interpreters affiliated with the U.S. military were murdered by the organization, with thousands more still in hiding.

Based on the remarkable true story of Scottish cyclist Graeme Obree. In 1993, and as an unemployed amateur, Obree broke the world one-hour record on a bike of his own revolutionary design, which he constructed out of scrap metal and parts of a washing machine. He went up against the sport's Governing body who kept on making rules to disqualify him, but his innovation kept him in front & won him 2 world titles. The film starts with Graeme Obree (Jonny Lee Miller) cycling into a wooded area preparing to hang himself; he has bipolar disorder. There is then a flashback to Obree's childhood, where he (Sean Brown) was physically attacked at school by other pupils, events which leave severe psychological scars. Bur Obree refuses to squeal the names of his tormentors to his parents. One day Obree is given a bicycle by his parents, and we see Obree evading the bullies on his bike. The adult Obree, living in Glasglow in 1993, is married to Anne (Laura Fraser) with a child and while competing in local races runs a failing cycle shop and having to supplement his income as a courier. A local rival runs a much more successful "Smart Cycles" shop exactly opposite to Obree's shop (which had items on clearance and is in a generally run-down shape). Graeme encounters Malky McGovern (Boyd), a fellow bike courier, who recognizes Graeme, and they become fast friends. An ex-minister turned boatyard owner Baxter (Brian Cox) befriends Obree. Baxter wanted his cycle repaired and walks into Obree's shop, despite its run-down condition. Obree challenges a local business owner to a race. The local owner was buying his cycles in a clearance sale for 200 pounds and Obree offers the cycles for free if the business owner reaches his destination in a van, before Obree reaches the destination on his cycle. If Obree beats him, he gets 300 pounds. Baxter witnesses how fast Obree is, even though he loses. Graeme narrowly beats the driver but the van steers into him. Obree loves to tinker with his bike, with new handle positions, sitting positions and such, to make it go faster. This ultimately results in Obree coming up with a daring idea - he's going to try and beat the hour record within the next 8 weeks. Baxter sees Obree stealing parts from Smart Cycles shop at night, but decides to help Obree instead, when he hears Obree's idea about how he would beat the world record. This is unlikely as Obree has neither the funding nor the machine required to take on such a record. Determined to succeed, he asks Malky to take over his management and fund-raising from his wife Anne who is overwhelmed with work and raising their child. Baxter turns out to be a boatyard owner and offers Graeme and Malky his yard to build a fitting bike. Graeme sets himself 8 weeks to build a bike, raise funds for the challenge, and pay for access to a fitting velodrome. The driving force for such a tight deadline is due to Chris Boardman's attempt to break the record in the 9th week. Obree is determined and constructs "Old Faithful", a revolutionary bicycle, designed by Obree for maximum efficiency. Modifications include pedals which are closer together, the width of a single banana. Also pedal gear made from the spinning drum of a washing machine since it has the best bearings of any equipment in the market. Malky is not impressed as the current world record bike took 500,000 pounds to develop and was designed on a computer. Obree argues that his bike is designed with the laws of physics and there is a scientific reason for every single part on it. With help from his friend Malky McGovern (Billy Boyd), who becomes his manager (& tries very hard to get some funding for Obree's attempt. Small local Scottish businesses agree to support Obree). Malky, Anne, and Graeme arrive in Norway for their attempt, and Graeme is derided by officials. Malky reveals to Graeme that he has had a proper bike built based on the prototype of Old Faithful. Graeme grudgingly agrees to use the new bike but his first attempt at the record proves to be a failure, and he comes up short. Graeme tells everyone he intends to go again as he has the velodrome booked for 24 hours. Due to the grueling nature of the 1-hour challenge, everyone cautions him against making a second attempt. Graeme devises a cunning way to prevent his body from seizing up and cramping and exercises throughout the night. The next morning, he and Anne sleep in and rush to find Malky, who unknown to Graeme has rebuilt the bike using Old Faithful's parts. Graeme embarks on his attempts and this time is successful in beating the record. However, his initial victory is short-lived, when his record is broken by Chris Boardman a week later. The Union Cycliste Internationale holds a meeting where they devise rules to discourage Obree from using his experimental bicycle in the future. They reckon people won't buy expensive bikes if world records can be broken on bikes made from household appliances. It is shown that on the night Obree breaks the record he is severely depressed. This is exacerbated when Boardman breaks the record and when Obree is confronted and taunted by the four bullies who had victimized him years earlier at school. Baxter attempts to counsel him, but Obree feels betrayed when he discovers that Baxter is the pastor of a local church and the younger Obree is agnostic towards religion. He recovers enough to compete in the Individual Pursuit World Championship in 1993, in which he uses his bicycle design again. The UCI officials begin rigorously enforcing the new ruling, penalizing him for riding in the "Tuck" stance that his bicycle design is intended to support. The physical and emotional exertion take their toll, and he crashes disastrously, breaking his arm. The plot then returns to the opening of the film. The rope Graeme attempts to use to hang himself breaks, and he is found by another cyclist who summons the authorities. Graeme initially resists treatment, until Baxter tells him about his wife, who also suffered from bipolar disorder and ultimately took her own life. At Graeme's request, his wife, Anne, a hospital nurse, agrees to help him begin treatment. Graeme later makes a comeback and regains the 1-hour record as well as his world title. The new bicycle configuration that he uses, which supports the "Superman" stance, is later banned by the UCI after eight riders win gold medals with it.

In 2011, a deadly pathogenic virus killed 99 percent of the Earth's population, forcing the survivors to regroup and scatter across the Earth. A scientist named Trevor Goodchild developed a cure to the virus. Four centuries later, in 2415, the remaining five million humans inhabit Bregna, a dystopian walled futuristic city-state, which is ruled by a congress of scientists. Although Bregna is largely an idyllic place in the destroyed Earth, people routinely disappear, and the population is plagued by nightmares. The Goodchild dynasty has ruled Bregna for 400 years. But now, rebels have emerged to challenge the Goodchild regime. The Goodchild regime provides for the city, till they relinquish their freedom and agree to live quietly in a gilded cage. Relical, the dirigible, floats above the city to remind the people of what they have survived. The city is surrounded by an impregnable wall and citizens are not allowed to go beyond. A skilled warrior, named Aeon Flux (Charlize Theron), is a member of the Monicans, an underground rebel organization who communicate through telepathy-enabling technology and are led by the Handler (Frances McDormand). After a mission to destroy a surveillance station, Aeon comes home to find her sister Una (Amelia Warner) has been mistaken for a Monican and killed. Una was married to her husband Claudius (Nikolai Kinski). Aeon feels her life has been stolen from her and now she dedicates her life to her mission. Aeon is sent on a mission to kill the government's leader, Trevor Goodchild (Marton Csokas). Goodchild is addressing the congress of scientists at the citadel. Aeon has to cross the frontier garden and then cross a confusing maze inside the citadel. Aeon is told that Goodchild will be at the Forum. Sithandra accompanies Aeon for the mission, who has hands instead of feet. The Frontier Garden is defended by many autonomous defense systems, such as self-aiming darts and razor blades concealed in grass. At the Forum, Trevor is worried that his brother Oren is being too brutal against the Monicans and soon, brute force will not be enough to stem the rebellion. Trevor believes that the system they put in place was temporary and was meant to allow Trevor to continue his work. He knows that the control system is wrong, but Oren believes that the system can be controlled and be made permanent. Aeon finds Trevor alone, while he is practicing his speech to the Forum. But as she prepares to shoot Trevor, Aeon has flashbacks of kissing Trevor, and Trevor calls her by the name "Katherine". In her hesitation, Aeon is discovered and arrested. It is revealed that the attack on Trevor was organized by Oren who had passed on the information to the Monicans and allowed Aeon to overcome their defenses. Aeon escapes custody and finds Claudius alive inside the Citadel. Claudius tells Aeon that Trevor is trying to help by solving the problem of nightmares and memories that people have, of things that never happened to them. Aeon turns back into the Citadel and seeks Trevor. They end up having sex as Aeon has feelings when she is in Trevor's presence. Aeon finds Trevor's secret lab and is attacked by Oren's guards, forcing her to escape. Sithandra is livid that Aeon came out of the citadel without killing Trevor. Aeon tries to convince Sithandra to help investigate the matter further, but she refuses. Aeon breaks into the Relical. There she meets Keeper (Pete Postlethwaite), the old man who monitors everything. Aeon finds that her sister Una has been "recycled" and assigned a new identity. Meanwhile, Oren declares Trevor a traitor and assumes power. The Handler declares Aeon a fugitive on the basis on Sithandra's report. Trevor realizes that all the members of his test group 7B, of which Una was a part, have been killed in police action, by being labeled as Monicans. Aeon visits the address, where her sister had been reassigned, and only finds a newborn baby, with eyes exactly like Una's. Aeon questions the origins of everyone in Bregna and in particular, her personal connection to Trevor. Trevor arrives at the address and reveals the truth to Aeon. Everyone in Bregna is revealed to be a clone, grown from recycled DNA. With the dead constantly being reborn as new individuals and bearing partial memories of their previous lives, their troubling dreams have increased. Cloning was required because the antidote to the virus made humans infertile. Trevor's ongoing experiments were attempts to reverse the infertility. His preceding clones had all worked on this problem. Aeon learns that she is a clone of the original Trevor's wife Katherine and that she is the first "Katherine" clone in over 400 years. Una was one of Trevor's most successful experiments; part of a group of clones that proved to be fertile, with Una having been pregnant when she was killed. However, in order to keep the dynasty of Goodchild clones in power, Trevor's brother, Oren (Jonny Lee Miller), had Una killed along with the other members of the fertile experimental group. He ordered all of Trevor's research to be destroyed. In a confrontation with Trevor and Aeon, Oren reveals that nature has corrected the infertility problem and that some women are becoming pregnant without intervention by scientists. Oren has had them all killed to maintain the Goodchild reign. Aeon then goes against both Oren and her former allies, who want to kill Trevor and also kill her for not killing Trevor. Aeon convinces the other Monicans tracking her, including her friend Sithandra (Sophie Okonedo), to ignore the Handler and to help her kill Oren and his men. Aeon goes to destroy the Relical, the dirigible that stores the DNA for cloning. She discovers that he preserved Katherine's DNA for years, although an earlier Oren clone had ordered it to be destroyed so "Katherine" could not influence any Trevors. The dirigible crashes into the city wall, breaking it down to reveal the surrounding land for the first time in centuries.

Fanny is soon possessed of beauty as well as a keen mind and comes to the attention of a neighbor, Henry Crawford. In 1988, Dade "Zero Cool" Murphy (age 11)(Max Ligosh) is arrested and charged with crashing 1,507 systems in one day and causing a single-day 7-point drop in the New York Stock Exchange. Upon conviction, he is banned from owning or operating computers or touch-tone telephones until his 18th birthday. Shortly before Dade (Jonny Lee Miller) turns 18, his mother (now divorced) takes a job in New York City. Upon turning 18, Dade calls a local television station, dupes the security guard into giving him the modem's phone number (a tactic known as social engineering), and successfully hacks into the station's computer network, changing the current TV program to an episode of The Outer Limits. However, Dade is "attacked" by a hacker (handle "Acid Burn") on the same network. During the conversation, Dade identifies himself by the new alias, Crash Override. Dade enrolls at Stanton High School, where he meets Kate Libby (Angelina Jolie), who is assigned to take him on a tour of the school. After Dade learns that Kate is "Acid Burn," a feud erupts between them. The real trouble begins when Joey Pardella (Jesse Bradford), the novice hacker of the group, successfully breaks into an Ellingson Mineral Company supercomputer to prove to the rest of the group that he is an elite hacker. To validate this feat, he downloads part of a garbage file. Unfortunately, the company's IT employee Hal (Penn Jillette) detects this unauthorized entry and summons computer security officer Eugene "The Plague" Belford (Fisher Stevens) to deal with the problem. The Plague realizes the file being downloaded can prove that he is stealing from the company via salami slicing. The Plague enlists the U.S. Secret Service to recover the file by claiming that it is the code to Da Vinci, a computer virus that will capsize the company's oil tanker fleet and he needs that code to destroy the virus. Joey is arrested and his computer is searched, but the Secret Service finds nothing, as Joey has hidden the disk containing the files. In response, Dade and Kate decide to settle their disagreements with a hacking duel, with hacks focused on harassing Secret Service Agent Richard Gill (Wendell Pierce), a known enemy of hackers, who was involved in Joey's arrest. Kate and Dade's hacker friends Ramon Sanchez (Renoly Santiago) a.k.a. "The Phantom Phreak," Emmanuel Goldstein (Matthew Lillard) a.k.a. "Cereal Killer," and Paul Cook (Laurence Mason) a.k.a. "Lord Nikon" (so named for his photographic memory) act as judges. After being released on parole, Joey reveals the disk to Phantom Phreak in a public park; but they quickly realize that they are being followed by the Secret Service. The next day, Phreak is arrested. He uses his phone call to inform Kate that he hid the disk in a boy's bathroom at school. That evening, Kate and Cereal Killer ask Dade for his help; but, because of his record, he declines. Kate then asks Dade to copy the disk so that, if anyone else is arrested, they have the disk as evidence. After determining that Dade is not the one who hacked into Ellingson, The Plague attempts to enlist Dade's help to find the one who did. First, he offers Dade a free high-powered laptop. Later, he threatens to have Dade's mother incarcerated with a manufactured criminal record. At this, Dade agrees to deliver Kate's copy of the disk. Meanwhile, Kate, Lord Nikon, and Cereal Killer attempt to discern the contents of the disk. Dade joins them; and, after working all night, they learn the truth. It's designed to salami-slice $25 million from Ellingson transactions. Dade reveals that he knows Plague is behind this scheme because he was the one who wanted Kate's copy of the disk. He admits he gave Plague the disk and reveals his history as Zero Cool. Determined to stop the scheme, the assembled hackers plan to hack the Gibson again. Kate and Dade go dumpster-diving for employee memos with passwords; Cereal Killer installs a hidden microphone in the Ellingson offices; and Nikon poses as a delivery boy wandering the Ellingson cubicles, memorizing employee passwords as they enter them. From the memos, they discover the Da Vinci virus is set to capsize the fleet the next day, which would provide the perfect cover to distract from the salami-slicing worm. In need of help, they seek out Razor and Blade, the producers of a hacker-themed pirate TV show, "Hack the Planet." The next morning, they evade the Secret Service and converge on Grand Central station, where they use payphones to begin their assault on the Gibson. At first, their attempts are easily rebuffed by Plague, who calls Dade to warn him to escape before he is arrested. However, Razor and Blade have contacted hackers around the world, who lend their support with virus attacks, distracting Plague long enough for Dade to download the incriminating file to a floppy disk. Shortly after crashing the Gibson, Dade and company are arrested. As they're being led away, Dade surreptitiously informs Cereal Killer, hiding in the crowd, that he's tossed the disk in a trashcan. As Dade and Kate are being interrogated, Razor and Blade jam the local television signals and broadcast live video of Cereal Killer, revealing the plot and Plague's complicity. Plague is arrested when he tries to flee to Japan under the alias "Mr. Babbage" (a reference to Charles Babbage). Their names cleared, Dade and Kate go on a date. Kate even wears a dress. While relaxing in a pool on the roof of a building, their friends show off their latest hack. The lights in several adjacent office buildings spell out "CRASH AND BURN."
