When he was two years old, his family was forced to leave the country because of the Soviet occupation. His values were shaped in France, in a free Europe where he spent his childhood and youth, and where he chose the path of a clergyman. He studied in Rome, worked in the Vatican, had a close friendship with Pope John Paul II, went on missions in different countries on different continents - all of it gave him unique experience and perception of the world. Nevertheless, he has never lost his love for the homeland too. He could return to Lithuania only after many years, when he was appointed Archbishop of Vilnius. However, challenges and difficulties awaited him in his fatherland: the Soviet society and the church which was separated from the outer world did not easily accept the visions and dreams of Audrys Juozas Backis, who was unaffected by the Soviet era: a free person, different than others and therefore often misunderstood. A man whose mission was to fundamentally change the Church in Lithuania in the upcoming new post-Soviet times. After gaining authority in Lithuania, he did not lose it in the West either: he is always welcomed as a spiritual leader in Paris and Rome, participates in the consistencies of cardinals, elections of a new Pope and, according to some sources, even was a candidate himself.

The show was revived in 2010 by the artist Matthew Day Jackson. In Search of... Zombies was filmed in New York and across the American West, from Las Vegas to the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site in South Dakota, in the summer of 2011. The episode focuses on the ubiquitous contemporary figure of the zombie. Zombies are everywhere, or so it seems, and the program tries to figure out why, as well as propose alternate or expanded ways in which we might think about them. The classic zombies are all considered, but so are some less traditional models. Archival footage from a wide array of sources is mixed with contemporary travelogue as the narrator wends his way across the American West. Rick Riker (Drake Bell) is an unpopular student at Empire High School. He lives with his Uncle Albert (Leslie Nielsen) and Aunt Lucille (Marion Ross). He has one friend and confidant, Trey (Kevin Hart). His crush is the breathtaking, Jill Johnson (Sara Paxton), who hardly notices him, is dating Lance Landers (Ryan Hansen), a bully who torments Rick. During a school field trip at an animal research lab, Rick meets Lou Landers (Christopher McDonald), who coughs up blood because he is terminally ill. Dr. Strom (Brent Spiner), the head researcher at the lab, presents his mutated dragonflies, one of which has escaped and bites Rick, and causes his neck to swell. By the time Rick returns home he is violently ill. Uncle Albert and Aunt Lucille believe Rick is acting strange, so Albert proceeds to talk to Rick about puberty, but Rick passes out from the bite. He wakes up five days later, tries to look up "dragonfly bite" online but is contacted by a stranger instead who wants to speak to him in person, later adding Rick as a friend on Facebook. Meanwhile, Lou Landers is involved in an accident during an experiment at the lab, transforming him into Hourglass, a villainous being who can siphon the life energy from others, killing them. During a science fair at school in which a comically rude and mean-spirited Stephen Hawking (Robert Joy) is present, Rick begins to experience strange physical traits, such as becoming stuck to objects, which creates a number of mishaps during the fair. Fleeing school, he discovers has developed superhuman abilities, such as the ability to walk on walls and superhuman strength, though he repeatedly laments throughout the film that he cannot fly. After testing his abilities, he pushes an elderly woman and her dog out of the way of an out-of-control truck, colliding with the truck himself. He is congratulated by passers-by, though he notices that the elderly woman he shoved out of the way landed into a wood-chipper and crushed, with her dog still on its leash. Rick reveals his secret to his uncle and Trey and the latter offers to become his sidekick, but Rick refuses. He and Uncle Albert have an argument, which spurs a flashback sequence in which a younger Rick and his parents (Robert Hays and Nicole Sullivan) are mugged in an alley and die in a spoof of Batman Begins. With his dying words, his father urges him to sell all his shares in Google but invest heavily in Enron. Later, after seeing Jill and Lance leave in Lance's Porsche Cayman, Rick, who desires a car of his own, goes to a bank, where he is denied a loan. A bank robber then holds up the bank and after Rick fails to stop him, Uncle Albert is shot and hospitalized. Jill visits Rick at the hospital, kisses him in an attempt to cheer him up. Meanwhile Landers accidentally takes his secretary's life energy, killing her. Rick is met by Xavier (Tracy Morgan) at his school for mutants Ala X-Men where he meets Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops, the Invisible Woman and Mrs. Xavier. Rick is told to make a costume by Mrs. Xavier and adopts the identity of the Dragonfly. The first version of the skin-tight Dragonfly costume completely covers his head and face so he can't see or breathe, causing him to panic. The final revision has eye, mouth, and nose openings. He meets the Human Torch but fails to fly. Dragonfly quickly becomes a media sensation, fights and gets badly injured by Hourglass who manages to escape stealing a canister of Cerillium. Jill is attacked by muggers, but Dragonfly saves her. Just after Dragonfly defeats the last of the thugs, Jill tells Dragonfly he saved her life, and shyly asks Dragonfly if she can thank him with a kiss. Just before she can kiss him, Dragonfly slides down, so he has a perfect view down Jill's shirt. Jill lifts him back up, but he goes over the building, leaving Jill alone. Dragonfly tries to kiss Jill again but decides to fight more crime to impress her. Landers plans to construct a machine that will kill 42 thousand people and give him enough life energy to make him immortal. During a Thanksgiving dinner at the Rikers', Landers manages to learn his secret identity. Just as Rick and Jill are about to kiss, the Hourglass appears and murders Aunt Lucille. Uncle Albert recovers, and after a comical funeral, Rick decides to end his superhero career, though Trey and Uncle Albert convince him to find Hourglass, who plans to kill countless innocent people. At an awards ceremony to honor achievements in feminine hygiene, Landers is presented with a Douchebag Of The Year Award. Although Rick goes to the ceremony too, Landers tricks him into thinking that the Dalai Lama is Hourglass, which leads to a brawl in the ceremony hall involving all the attendees, including Buddhist monks, the Pope and Stephen Hawking. During this, Jill discovers that Landers is Hourglass. In a nearby hall there is a superhero convention where a flying machine awaits Hourglass. Landers gets in the convention hall and changes into Hourglass as Rick gets into his Dragonfly costume and fights him. When Hourglass tries to finish off Dragonfly, Jill attempts to intervene and is critically injured. Hourglass flies off with the machine to the rooftop where he activates the machine to steal the life-force from all the attendees of the ceremony and the convention. After Stephen Hawking implores Rick not to give up, using a rationale that Rick points out are the lyrics to Celine Dion's "Taking Chances", he dons the Dragonfly suit, and battles the Hourglass on the rooftop. Dragonfly siphons off some of Hourglass's stolen life-force to heal Jill, but the Hourglass throws a bomb at Dragonfly, with the bomb sticking to Dragonfly's crotch. He back-flips several times, finally managing to stick the bomb to Hourglass. Stuck to his invention, he shouts "Oh, f**k!", with the bomb detonating and killing him. Jill falls off the roof, but Dragonfly jumps off after her. After he grabs her and reveals that he is Rick, Jill tells him that she loves him, and they passionately kiss, and Rick finally grows wings. He flies them away, landing on the rooftop where Uncle Albert and Stephen Hawking await them. While they walk away, Hawking's wheelchair gets stuck and hits the ledge sending Hawking to a free-fall. Rick and Jill fly once more but they are hit by a helicopter.

Two bungling, petty criminal BFFs try to rob a church, but someone from staff beat them to it. They spend the night with the church staff to get the money. Durell Washington and LeeJohn Jackson are best friends and bumbling petty criminals. Armando Sancho (Clifton Collins Jr.) is a former Los Angeles gang member who has transitioned into law enforcement. Sancho, however, who is surrounded by corruption, finds that life as a police officer is just as morally bankrupt as life as a gangster. Salim Adel is Sancho's partner. One night, Sancho and Salim were planting evidence and stealing drugs from a drug bust, when they were seen by an old man. Salim asks the old man to retreat, but perhaps he was hard of hearing and stood his ground. Salim shoots the old man in the head after repeating the warning a few times. After being implicated in the shooting of an innocent man himself, Sancho is pressured (by IA officer Bryant (Judy Reyes)) to testify against his loose-cannon friend and partner, Salim Adel (Cuba Gooding Jr.), who has a history of abusing citizens. Sancho lives with his sick and wheelchair bound mother (Soledad St. Hilaire) and believes that some lines of decency should not be crossed. And yet, he also does not want to be a rat. Sancho picks up Salim at 8 AM from his house where he stays with his girlfriend, and his son Elijah (Dax Ramgoolam). Salim and Sancho have been called in to testify in front of Internal Affairs at 6 PM that day. On their patrol, they reach downtown at 8:34 AM. They find a couple in a car who are lost, and Sancho tries to help them. The couple cannot understand Sancho's accent, and this angers Salim. He arrests the husband and proceeds to sexually harass the wife in front of her husband. Salim steals the couple's PDA, before Sancho intervenes and allows them to leave. They then drive into Police HQ for a daily briefing from Captain Spain (Keith David). Spain declares war on the drug cartels in the city and wants his cops to remind the people that there is war going on in the streets. Spain meets Sancho and Salim separately say that police tactics are working as crime is going down in the city. He wants the cops to stick together and stop anyone from outside interfering in how they do things. Indirectly, Spain asks Sancho and Salim to lie to IA. Meanwhile, Spain is in touch with a kingpin to supply drugs to him. At a local bar at 9:42 AM, the Lieutenant (Cole Hauser) approaches Sancho and Salim and says that they have an opportunity. Lieutenant says that Brax (Wood Harris) is Damian Baine's (Wyclef Jean) right hand man. Damian owns every nightclub in town. Lieutenant tells Sancho and Salim to deliver 13 Kilos of drugs from the evidence locker to Damian at his Mexican nightclub. Sancho doesn't like the deal and feels there something is off. They pick the drugs from the evidence locker at 10:19 AM, by using a fake requisition slip from a judge requesting to produce the evidence in court. They meet Brax at a Taco Pup at 10:47 AM, who asks them to bring the drugs to Baine's club. Sancho tells Salim that if Baine kills them both, IA will never know that the incident with the dead old man was set up by the Lieutenant. Salim feels Sancho is getting paranoid, but Sancho is adamant that they will keep the drugs in the car when they meet Baine. At 11:13 AM, they reach Baine's club. Despite the warning, Salim takes the drugs into Baine's club. Baine says that Canadian gang Hells Angels have set up shop at the beach and are buying drugs from anyone willing to sell. They want to jack up prices by having a monopoly and driving all other suppliers out of business. Baine wants Salim and Sancho to use the 13 Kilos of drugs to lure the Hells Angels and steal the money and their drugs. The police get one third of the entire loot. Salim convinces Sancho that this is the mother-lode, and they won't have to do small gigs if they manage to pull this heist off. They reach the beach at 1:43 PM. They pick up drug sellers Rita (Aimee Garcia) and Splooge (Khleo Thomas) on the beach. When Sancho roughs up Splooge, Rita spits on Salim, leading him to sexually harass Rita in front of Splooge. As Splooge is taken away, Rita vows to kill Salim. Turns out Splooge is Salim's informant, and they staged the whole arrest to make it look genuine. They reach the Canadian Beach Bungalow at 3:17 PM. Splooge goes in first and distracts the Hells Angels and the cops follow in a few minutes later. Sancho is stunned to find one of the Hells Angels to be his family member, who says that the entire money belongs to Roland (Robert LaSardo). As Sancho is distracted, Splooge runs away with the drugs and Salim is shot. As Sancho pursues the shooter, Salim finds the money bag and hides it. Sancho puts Salim in the squad car and drives him away. Brax and his entourage enter the house but find no drugs or money. Sancho finds Splooge at the beach and pursues him, leaving Salim in the squad car. Splooge escapes and Sancho takes Salim to a safe-house at 5:09 PM. Turns out the whole deal was set up Lieutenant to get rid of Salim and Sancho. Salim and Sancho would attack Hells Angels to steal money and the drugs. Brax would kill them while they are in the house, and it would like Hells Angels killed the 2 dirty cops who were selling evidence from the police locker. Sancho suspected Salim, but Salim convinces him that they are both partners and in this together. The drugs hidden by Splooge are found by kids, who overdose on it. Officer Rodriguez (Nick Gonzalez) attacks the safe-house but is captured. He confirms that Lieutenant is behind the setup and the drugs were payment for their murder. Baine was supposed to kill them at the Taco Pup, but he got greedy and thought he could get both the drugs and the money and get rid of his competition by getting the police to eliminate Canadian Hells Angels. Salim realizes that Sancho was going to tell the truth to the IA and the department knew about this, and hence Lieutenant made this plan up. Salim and Sancho surrender to Roland. Roland wants his money back, but Sancho didn't know that Salim had hidden the money. It is revealed that Salim never killed the old man and had stepped away. It was Sancho who thought that the old man was reaching for his gun and shot him. Roland wants Sancho to shoot Salim, but Sancho prefers to shoot himself. Seeing this, Salim reveals that he knows the location of the money. Roland shoots Sancho regardless for going against his first family. Salim manages to escape when police are already at the spot where he hid the money. He returns the drugs recovered to the evidence locker. The drugs are destroyed as they were mixed with heavy duty rat poison. Lieutenant tells Salim that Sancho killed his girlfriend. Spain and Lieutenant indicate that they are holding Elijah hostage till Salim implicates Sancho in the day's events. As Salim exits the HQ, he is assassinated by Roland's men.

Riddick (Vin Diesel), having remained in hiding for five years after the events of Pitch Black, evades the bounty hunter Toombs (Nick Chinlund). A crew of bounty hunters led by Toombs arrives at the frozen planet U.V. to hunt down Riddick, a notorious wanted fugitive. Riddick kills Roombs' crew and steals his ship, before heading for the planet called Helion Prime, after Toombs reveals that the incredibly high bounty originated there. Once there, Riddick is reunited with Abu "Imam" Al-Walid (Keith David), the man he rescued in Pitch Black, and is asked about his home world, a now devastated planet called Furya, and if there are any of his people still alive, aside from him. Imam and the others are aware that Helion Prime is likely the next planet to be conquered by the Necromongers, an army of religious fanatics who seek to convert every human life and kill those who refuse. Aereon (Judi Dench), an Air Elemental, believes Riddick is a Furyan, a member of a race of warriors long thought extinct. One night, the Necromongers invades Helion Prime, overwhelming their entire defense forces, and takes control of the capital. In the ensuing battle, Imam is killed defending his family and Riddick heads to the capital building. The next day, the Necromongers, led by the high priest (called The Purifier), coerce the populace into converting, except for Riddick, who in a display of defiance kills the man who killed Imam the night before. Intrigued, and alarmed by a sense of Deja Vu, the Lord Marshal (Colm Feore) leader of the Necromonger faith, orders Riddick be examined in the main Necromonger hall by the Quasi-Dead Telepaths. Lord Mardhal possesses unnatural abilities granted to him after visiting the Underverse, the Necromonger Promised Land. He is the subject of a prophecy that foretells of his death at the hands of a Furyan warrior. It is discovered that Riddick is the last Furyan alive, to which the Lord Marshal immediately orders Riddick's death. Riddick escapes the Necromonger ship and allows himself to be captured by Toombs and his new crew. Riddick quietly gets Toombs to take him to Crematoria, a scorching subterranean and harsh prison moon, where the kid from Pitch Black, Jack (Alexa Davalos), was reported to have been sent. Following Riddick's escape, the Lord Marshal sends a commander named Vaako (Karl Urban) a loyal Necromonger Commander who is tasked with hunting down and killing Riddick. This process made easier by Toombs' ship leaving behind an easily traceable path. During the voyage, Vaako's wife Dame Vaako (Thandiwe Newton), after talking to the Elemental Aereon who acted as a seer for the Lord Marshal 30 years prior, reveals that Furya was devastated by the Lord Marshal, after he was informed that a male child from that world would bring about his downfall, thus revealing his desire to see Riddick killed. On Crematoria, a disagreement between Toombs and the prison warden over the amount Toombs is owed for Riddick results in Toombs and his crew staying there for a day. Word about the Necromongers has reached even the isolated prison guards, who suspect that Toombs stole Riddick from them, and that it will bring them only trouble. A firefight breaks out, killing most of the bounty hunters except for Toombs. On Crematoria, Riddick quickly asserts his position in the prison's populace. In the prison, Riddick meets up with Jack, now renamed Kyra, who resents him for abandoning her. After a few fights, they eventually reconcile. The next day, the guards kill all the mercenaries, except Toombs who drops into the prison area, who take all their money and prepare to leave when they realize the Necromongers are coming for Riddick. Overpowering and locking Toombs' in a cell, Riddick escapes the prison and leads several prisoners across Crematoria's volcanic surface to the hangar to steal Toombs' ship. As the prisoners reach the outside of the hangar, they find that Necromonger ships have also landed. A three-way fight breaks out between the Necromongers, the prisoners, and the hangar guards. In the end, all of the guards and prisoners are killed, Riddick is incapacitated by Vaako, and Kyra is captured. As the deadly sunrise approaches, Vaako leaves Riddick to die and departs. However, following an outburst of energy by Riddick, a trait among Furyans, and the approach of the vicious sunrise (0 to 700 degrees F), Vaako leaves Riddick for dead. Kyra, also thinking Riddick is dead, flees with the Necromongers. However, Riddick is saved by the Purifier (Linus Roache), who informs him that if he stays away from the Necromongers, the Lord Marshal will not hunt him. The Purifier then reveals that he too is Furyan, and that Vaako will likely report Riddick as dead, giving him the element of surprise. The Purifier then commits suicide by walking out of the hanger onto the scorching surface of Crematoria after encouraging Riddick to save Kyra and kill the Lord Marshal. Meanwhile, Vaako has reported Riddick as dead, and for which, has been named as the heir apparent by the Lord Marshal. Riddick flies back to Helion Prime. Flying back to Helion Prime on Toombs's ship, Riddick infiltrates the Necromongers' flagship. Riddick, disguised as a Necromonger in full armor, infiltrates the main Necromonger hall. Dame Vaako finds out and encourages her husband to let Riddick strike first, so as to wound the Lord Marshal, paving the way for Vaako to kill him. Taking advantage of the Necromonger's culture, Riddick openly challenges Lord Marshal, who taunts him by revealing Kyra has been converted. Riddick fights Lord Marshal, who keeps the upper hand with his supernatural powers. Riddick attacks him, and when it appears that Riddick has been defeated, Kyra stabs the Lord Marshal in the back with a spear. She is then mortally wounded after being tossed onto, and impaled, on spikes. Vaako attempts to strike the wounded Lord Marshal, who evades the blow. Riddick, who in the fight has figured out the Lord Marshal's weakness, ends up killing the Lord Marshal. After Kyra dies in Riddick's arms, and as Riddick mourns, the Necromongers kneel before him, the new Lord Marshal.

Mays Gilliam (Chris Rock) is the alderman for the 9th Ward in Washington, D.C. Gilliam works a tough neighborhood with a high crime rate. The local residents trust him as he genuinely understands their problems and tries his best to help people. A local woman's home Miss Pearl is due for demolition after she was paid $40,000 for it. The woman comes back on the day of the demolition as her cat is stuck inside the house. As Gilliam tries to argue with the demolition crew, Miss Pearl goes inside the house and Gilliam learns that the demolition countdown cannot be stopped. Gilliam risks his own life to rescue Miss Pearl before the house is demolished. Gilliam learns that is likely to lose his job as the Mayor hates him. The tendency to help people costs money and it makes the Mayor look bad. So, the Mayor evicts Gilliam out of his office. Even Gilliam's lawyer Bernard Cooper (Keith David) asks Gilliam to fit in. Gilliam is also getting dumped by his girlfriend, Kim (Robin Givens). Kim leaves Gilliam as she thought he had potential, but now she believes that he is stuck in a rut. But then Gilliam is unexpectedly chosen as the Democratic Party candidate for the 2004 presidential election after his party's original presidential and vice-presidential nominees die in a plane crash, and Gilliam is being hailed as a hero by the media for saving Miss Pearl. Assuming the election was already lost to incumbent Republican vice-president Brian Lewis (Nick Searcy), the Democrats (led by Senator Bill Arnot (James Rebhorn), Debra Lassiter (Lynn Whitfield) and Martin Geller (Dylan Baker)) decided to pick a likable but unwinnable minority candidate to improve their chances in the 2008 presidential election. All the other options for the Presidential ticket had one vice or another and were too open to attack on the campaign trail. With Gilliam, Bill reckons that the minorities will be happy with the Democrats and will again vote for them in 2008. Bill intends to run for President in 2008 and offers the running mate position to Debra to get her support. Debra convinces Gilliam that Congressmen and Senators are politicians and Alderman work with the people, hence he is perfect for the role. Bill says that in every situation Gilliam cares about the little people and this would be his chance to make a difference on the biggest stage of all. Mr Earl (Jude Ciccolella) is assigned as Gilliam's security director. Nicollette "Nikki" White (Stephanie March) is assigned as the executive director of Internal Liaison. Martin explains that Nikki's main job is to sleep with Gilliam as the campaigns cannot afford sex scandals. Mays even finds time to romance Lisa Clark (Tamala Jones), a gas station attendant he crosses paths with (she works a second job as a cocktail waitress and Gilliam meets her at one of the fund-raising events), and who has been a huge supporter of Mays. Just as Gilliam hits the campaign trail, Kim returns to Gilliam and claims that they are engaged. Gilliam calls in security to remove her. At first, Gilliam feels he will not be able to succeed as president because he would be representing the entire African American populace and does not want to do anything to damage his reputation. Gilliam is given vague and similar sounding speeches to make at every public rally and his support is stuck at 10%. His brother Mitch joins the campaign trail before his rally in Chicago. Mitch is a bail bondsman. However, Gilliam begins to rise in the polls after his brother Mitch (Bernie Mac) persuades him to speak out for what he believes in. He ditches the bland, boring, and uncontroversial speeches prepared for him and begins to talk honestly about major issues such as welfare, health-care, income inequality, pension reforms, education, and society overall. He knows that most people work 2 jobs just to be broke. He coins the catch phrase "That A'int Right" for everything that he finds wrong with American society and economy. Gilliam changes the entire tone of his campaign to represent him and gives his support to niche minority groups such as gays and escorts. After Lewis runs a series of attack ads including one saying Gilliam supports cancer, Gilliam begins to fight back using what he claimed was "kissing" his opponent (taken from Bugs Bunny-Elmer Fudd cartoons). A part of this strategy includes dubbing a videotape of Osama bin Laden saying he hates America but loves Brian Lewis. This strategy gains Gilliam even more points in the polls. As Gilliam gets to 30 points in the poll, even if he loses, he will be the front-runner for 2008. Bill wants Debra to kill Gilliam's campaign, but now even she supports him and refuses to toe the line with Bill. Lewis refuses to have a debate with Gilliam. Bill gets his investigators to release news footage that show Gilliam in association with known drug peddlers and criminals. As election day draws closer, Gilliam eventually learns the reason why he was chosen as the party candidate, fires campaign operatives Martin and Debra. Martin reconciles with him afterwards and says that he really wants to help Gilliam. Martin convinces Gilliam to come back stronger in his campaign and chooses his brother as his running mate. Mitch again brings the attention back to the main campaign topics and helps erase the negativity around Gilliam. Gilliam hounds Lewis till he agrees for a debate. Gilliam reaches out to Debra to help prepare for the debate. Gilliam manages to win the crowd over by speaking truth about American life. He talks about educating the kids by disciplining them, as much as needed. He suggests putting guns laws on video to educate the people about them. Gilliam talks about paying farmers not to grow food, while millions go hungry, about heroine being cheaper than AIDS medicine, and about spending billions overseas without any impact. Gilliam argues that the country was built by people who were doing things for the first time. Finally, Gilliam ends up winning the presidency, and proposes to Lisa by saying he wants to make her his First Lady.

Cody Banks (Frankie Muniz), a 15-year-old high school student, applies for a junior position for the Central Intelligence Agency's Special Activities Division after completing his summer camp for CIA agents. The kids enter the camp, so the parents do not suspect anything, but inside they are trained by the CIA in the highest standards of combat, weapons handling, covert espionage and other mission critical skills. Cody lives with his parents Mrs Banks (Cynthia Stevenson) and Mr Banks (Daniel Roebuck) and has a brother named Alex. At home, Cody is expected to contribute to house chores like mowing the lawn and feeding the pets. Answering to his handler Agent Ronica Miles (Angie Harmon), Cody is called upon a mission to find information about a scientist named Dr. Albert Connors (Martin Donovan). Albert is the world's leading authority on Nano technology and its applications in Nano robotics. Connors is employed by a SPECTRE type organization named ERIS led by Dr. Brinkman (Ian McShane), and his henchman, Francois Molay (Arnold Vosloo). Connors had built Nano-robots that could clear oil spills, but Brinkman wanted Connors to program the Nano-robots to eat through any kind of carbon or silicone-based materials with obvious military applications. CIA Director (Keith David) had received a last transmission from his agent undercover indicating that Brinkman had asked Connors to convert the Nanobots into a weapon. Connors only connect with the outside world is through his daughter Natalie. Cody is placed into the prep school of Dr. Connors' daughter, Natalie (Hilary Duff), the William Donovan Institute. As all CIA agents are known to Brinkman's organization, the CIA uses the unknown Banks. Banks is chosen because as per his report, he is smooth with the girls. Cody's mission is to get close to Natalie and through her, try and access Albert's lab to try and figure out his exact plans with the Nanobots. Cody is given a bunch of cool spy gear such as x-ray glasses, cell phone with a holographic display and GPS transmitter, $1000 in cash for expenses and a watch that activates an intense electric charge when its dial is pressed. Cody tells his parents that he has been admitted to a prep school with full scholarship and that it has always been his dream to go there. Cody soon finds he has no social skill with girls and has no time to work on Natalie, while balancing his chores and homework. Cody knows that Natalie is way out of his league. The CIA decides to help by doing his chores and homework, trying to build his status, and going into the school to set him up with Natalie. Eventually, it emerges that Cody had lied on his profile and that he had no charms with the ladies. The director is livid, but they have limited time, and Cody is their only option now. The CIA assembles a varying team of "experts" to train Cody into how to talk to girls and issue him with a variety of gadgets with various functions. The experts cannot agree on the best way for Cody to approach Natalie and he is back to square one. Cody fails his driving license test, but the CIA intervenes and gets him a license from the DMV, so he can drive cool cars and impress Natalie. Eventually, Cody befriends and falls in love with Natalie after rescuing her from a falling a ladder while putting up a banner. After Cody befriends Natalie, he is invited to her 16th birthday party, where he goes undercover to her father's lab. Cody gifts Natalie a necklace with a built-in location tracker. Cody finds that Dr. Brinkman is planning to use Nanobots - which can destroy any carbon or silicon-based substance - to destroy the world's defense systems so he can threaten anyone who opposes him. Brinkman announces his intention to use the Nanobots to eat away the guidance systems on all intercontinental ballistic missiles, leaving their host nations defenseless. Since the Nanobots are inactive in the cold, he plans to use ice cubes to distribute them. After Connors, Brinkman, and Francois leave the lab, Cody tries taking one of the ice cubes, but melts when in his possession. Cody falls in love with Natalie and nearly fails the mission at the same time exposing his cover to Brinkman and Molay, causing the CIA to suspend him. Dr. Brinkman sends Francois and some men to catch Natalie and bring her into his base in the mountains. Meanwhile, Cody, disobeying orders to avoid Natalie, eats ice cream at a local restaurant with her. Cody attempts to explain things to Natalie but Francois and a group of henchmen ambush Cody and abduct Natalie. Dr. Brinkman's men come over to their table and fight with Cody, knocking him unconscious. Cody is removed from the mission, and his parents punish him for staying out past his curfew. Cody gets his brother Alex (Connor Widdows) to make sure his parents do not find out that he is gone by giving him the $5,000 the CIA gave him. Cody infiltrates into the CIA weapons hold and steals a rocket powered snowboard and other devices to rescue Natalie. Cody knows Natalie's location via a tracking device in a necklace he gave her as a birthday present. Cody gets a ride to the top of the mountain and snowboards to the factory where Natalie is held. On the way, he gets caught in a grove of trees as Ronica finds him using a SoloTrek XFV. After convincing Ronica that they need to rescue Natalie, Cody infiltrates the laboratory and rescues Natalie. However, Natalie is held hostage by Dr. Brinkman, who puts an ice cube with a Nanobot inside, on her forehead to make her father program the system. Cody plants an explosive charge and Natalie places the partly melted cube in Dr. Brinkman's mouth, killing him. Cody defeats Francois and sends him to the CIA using the SoloTrek XFV. Cody, Mr. Connors, Natalie, and Ronica flee the facility before it explodes. The CIA welcomes Cody back to the team and congratulates him for completing the mission, and Cody and Natalie start a relationship.

On a cold winter Saturday in Chicago in year 2002, Calvin Palmer, Jr. (Ice Cube) decides he has had enough of trying to keep open the barbershop his father handed down to him after running it for 40 years. Calvin has been running the shop for 2 years. He cannot borrow enough money from Bank Manager (Lorenzo Clemons) to keep the place open (the bank will foreclose on the shop if he doesn't pay the property taxes), it is not bringing in enough revenue, and he is more interested in coming up with get-rich-quick schemes to bring in easy money. Without telling his employees or the customers, Calvin sells his barbershop to a greedy loan shark named Lester Wallace (Keith David), who lies about keeping the place the same and secretly plans to turn the place into a strip club. Calvin's plan is to invest the proceeds into creating recording studio & play in the big leagues of the music industry. When his wife Jennifer (Jazsmin Lewis) finds out, she points out that the business was never under debt until Calvin started borrowing money to finance his schemes including a failed T-shirt company, and herbal life vitamins. Jennifer is pregnant and is expected to deliver shortly. The staff at the shop includes Eddie Walker (Cedric the Entertainer), Ricky (who carries a weapon in his backpack), Terri Jones (Eve) (who finds that her boyfriend Kevin (Jason Winston George) is cheating on her), Jimmy James (Sean Patrick Thomas), Isaac Rosenberg (Troy Garity) (who is white, but acts like an African American) and others. Prior to this, two wannabe thugs, JD (Anthony Anderson) and his best friend Billy (Lahmard Tate), steal an ATM from a convenience store. Due to Billy's clumsiness the thugs end up damaging the convenience store bu driving their pick-up truck right through its front facade. They tie an iron chain around the ATM and pull with the brute force of the pick-up truck. During the attempt, the truck's rear fender detaches and falls inside the store, which neither Billy nor JD notices. Detective Williams (Tom Wright) comes by the shop the following morning to interrogate Ricky as he has a criminal past and is a 2 time felon. Williams warns that he has the CCTV footage from the camera at the convenience store and in a few hours he will know the truth. The barbershop is a focal point for the community where people gather and exchange good vibes and humor. They take the machine back to Billy's place and they spend all day trying to pry it open. Calvin says words of encouragement to the convenience store owner Samir (Parvesh Cheena), which helps Samir & deepens his resolve to keep the shop open & continue serving the community. Samir tells Calvin that the ATM machine was brand new & had no cash, but the machine itself is quite valuable & banks give $ 50K reward for returning it. After spending a day at work and realizing just how vital the barbershop is to the surrounding community & everyone who works there, Calvin rethinks his decision and tries to get his shop back, only to find out Wallace wants double the $20,000 he paid Calvin to give the shop back, and before 7 P.M. Meanwhile JD & Billy keep having issues in hiding the ATM machine as Billy keeps messing up & keeps on increasing the visibility & attracting attention to himself & the machine. Now Calvin has only a scant few hours to try to raise enough money to save the shop. After he admits to the employees that he sold the barber shop and that it would be closing at the end of the day, Chicago police come in and arrests one of the barbers named Ricky (Michael Ealy). Ricky was arrested after being accused of driving his pickup truck into a nearby market to steal the ATM, but it is revealed that the ATM thief, JD, is Ricky's cousin and he was the one who committed the crime after borrowing Ricky's truck. That was Ricky's third strike, and he could be sentenced to life in prison. Calvin uses the $20,000 from Lester to bail Ricky out of jail. Once Calvin picks Ricky up from the jail, Ricky is angry at his cousin for betraying him and wants to kill him. Ricky had called JD from jail & when JD found out that this was Ricky's third strike, he was happy because Ricky would be jailed for life & could not harm JD anyways. Calvin tries to calm him down, but Ricky does not show any sign of calming down. Calvin gives Ricky a gun he found that fell out of Ricky's locker at the shop and is disappointed that Ricky is going to end up right back in jail. Ricky tells Calvin to pull the car over, and he does. Ricky gets out and decides to throw the gun off the bridge they are on and into the water before getting back into the car, proving that he does not want to get in any more trouble with the law. Then they both go to see Lester. Lester, as well as JD and Billy (who were still trying to pry it open, by using the blow torch in Lester's workshop, without Lester's knowledge) are confronted by Calvin and Ricky. Calvin and Ricky demands Lester to give Calvin his barbershop back. Rickey threatens to reveal the existence of the stolen ATM machine to the police along with the fact that Lester is dealing with stolen car parts in his workshop. Lester is angered and orders his bodyguard Monk (Kevyn Morrow) to pull out his gun. The police arrive just in time to save Calvin and Ricky. JD and Billy are arrested. Calvin and Ricky take the ATM and get a $50,000 reward for returning it to police. They get the money, and the barbershop reopens with even better business than before. In the meantime, Calvin's wife, Jennifer (Jazsmin Lewis), has given birth to a baby boy.

In 2065, Earth is infested by alien life forms known as Phantoms. The Phantoms arrived on Earth 34 yrs ago. By physical contact Phantoms consume the Gaia spirit of living beings, killing them instantly, though a minor contact may only result in an infection. The surviving humans live in "barrier cities" protected by energy shields that prevent Phantoms from entering and are engaged in an ongoing struggle to free the planet. After being infected by a Phantom during one of her experiments, scientist Dr. Aki Ross (Ming-Na) and her mentor, Dr. Sid (Donald Sutherland) discover a means of defeating the Phantoms by gathering eight spirits, unique energy patterns contained by various lifeforms. When joined, the resulting energy wave can negate the Phantoms. Aki searches for the sixth spirit in the ruins of New York City when she is cornered by Phantoms but rescued by Captain Gray Edwards (Alec Baldwin) and his squad Deep Eyes, consisting of Master Sergeant Ryan Whittaker (Ving Rhames), Neil Fleming (Steve Buscemi) and Corporal Jane Proudfoot (Peri Gilpin). It is revealed that Gray was once romantically involved with Aki. When they return to Barrier city #42, the whole team undergoes scans, and it is revealed that Gray somehow got infected. Aki takes a big risk and by treating Gray inside the city, and using lasers to eliminate the phantom before it broke through & infected the entire city. Dr Sid then arrives and allows Aki to bypass the scans. 20 years ago, Sid discovered an energy signature in the phantoms. Sid is responsible for every piece of tech being used to fight the phantoms. Including bringing together the 8 spirits from 8 different life forms. Dr Sid believes that each spirit is born out of the Gaia. and is housed in a physical body, where it grows and mature. When the body dies, the spirit returns to the Gaia, enriching it and allowing it to grow. But his research is not popular, only the weapons he creates are. Returning to her barrier city, Aki joins Sid and appears before the leadership council along with General Douglas Hein (James Woods). Hein is determined to use the Zeus cannon, a powerful weapon aboard a space station, to destroy the Phantoms (who nest in the Leonid meteor, which is now lying on the surface of the Earth), though Sid is concerned the cannon will damage Earth's Gaia (a spirit representing its ecosystem) (Sid argues that every time humans have attacked Leonid, the phantoms go deeper inside the Earth to bide their time. Increasing the weapons power could lead to injuring the spirit of the Earth). Aki delays the use of the cannon by revealing that she has been infected, and the collected spirits are keeping her infection stable inside her body, convincing the council that there may be another way to defeat the Phantoms. The 6 spirits collected so far are: Human, Fish, Sparrow, Deer, A little girl (dying in the emergency room), & a Plant. However, this revelation leads Hein to incorrectly conclude that she is being controlled by the Phantoms. Hein reassigns Gray to Aki and to keep an eye on her at all times. Aki and the Deep Eyes squad succeed in finding the seventh spirit as Aki's infection begins to worsen and she slips into unconsciousness. The phantoms were attracted towards her energy signature. Gray barely manages to get her out. Gray's team wants to shoot Aki, but Gray stands in their way. Her dream reveals to her that the Phantoms are the spirits of dead aliens brought to Earth on a fragment of their destroyed planet (There was a civil war and both sides used powerful nukes, destroying their planet and turning all life forms into Phantoms. Which is why phantoms on Earth come in myriad shapes and forms). Sid uses the seventh spirit to bring Aki's infection back under control, reviving her. To scare the council into giving him clearance to fire the Zeus cannon, Hein lowers part of the barrier shield protecting the city. Though Hein intended that only a few Phantoms enter, his plan goes awry, and legions of Phantoms invade the entire city. Aki, Sid and the Deep Eyes attempt to reach Aki's spaceship, their means of escape, but Ryan, Neil and Jane are killed by Phantoms during the process. Ryan attacks the meta to distract them away from Aki's ship and allowing them to power up to escape. Aki and Gray share a kiss after they escape. Hein escapes and boards the Zeus cannon's space station, where he finally receives authorization to fire the cannon. Sid finds the eighth spirit at the crater site of the alien asteroid's impact on Earth. But that's most likely a one-way trip. He attaches a device to Aki's chest plate to attract the 8th spirit. He lowers a shielded vehicle, with Aki and Gray aboard, into the crater to locate the final spirit. Just before they can reach it, Hein fires the Zeus cannon into the crater, not only destroying the eighth spirit but also revealing the Phantom Gaia. Aki tries to speak to Hein to explain that the phantoms are only lost spirits, ghosts and not an invading force. Hein is in no mood to stop firing. Aki has a vision of the Phantom home planet, where she is able to receive the eighth spirit from the alien particles in herself. When Aki awakens, she and Gray combine it with the other seven. Hein continues to fire the Zeus cannon despite overheating warnings and unintentionally destroys the cannon and himself. Gray sacrifices himself as a medium needed to physically transmit the completed spirit into the alien Gaia. The Earth's Gaia is returned to normal as the Phantoms ascend into space, finally at peace. Aki is pulled from the crater holding Gray's body and is seen looking into the newly liberated world.

It's in the distant future (when people traveling to outer space is a thing) and in another part of the galaxy away from earth. The space transport ship "Hunter-Gratzner" is sailing in its designated lane (marked by stars), carrying about 40 people on board. As is the norm during space travel, all the people are in cryo-sleep (suspended animation); all except one Riddick who exceptionally is awake. Twenty-two weeks into its journey and several weeks away from the next stop, accident strikes, as debris from possibly a rogue comet or a meteor storm hits the ship and pierces the ship's hull. It wakes up the crew, kills the captain, and the ship is knocked into the atmosphere of a nearby planet, thus kicking in gravity. The ship is now descending to the planet's surface at extreme speed and Docking pilot Carolyn Fry (Radha Mitchell) with navigator Greg Owens (Simon Burke) tries to take control. Owen tries to send a distress signal, but the communication antenna is damaged (apparently burning in the friction of the upper atmosphere). Fry tries to control the descent by jettisoning the aft section, which puts the ship into a roll, as it enters the cloud strata of the planet. She deploys air-brakes, and the ship stabilizes from the roll, but still, the rear-heavy ship is descending tail-first, so she begins purging the aft sections sequentially. Owen sees the door behind him close and realizes she intends to jettison the passenger cabin as well and stops her by blocking the airlock. With barely a minute to go, Fry sees the horizon as the ship finally levels. The overloaded air-brakes fail and break the windscreen, and Fry faces the force of air as the ship paces ahead. The ship finally makes a sliding crash landing on the planet, partly guided by the automated program in the ship which has chosen a place to hit that has some oxygen. The impact has broken open the main cabin, scattering objects outside, all along the long trail of impact. There are about 11 survivors of the crash: Carolyn Fry; William J. Johns (Cole Hauser), who appears to be a cop from his badge; a Muslim "Imam" Abu al-Walid (Keith David) and three young Muslim boys (Ali, Hassan, and Suleiman) he is escorting on hajj (a religious pilgrimage) to the planet New Mecca; antique dealer Paris P. Ogilvie (Lewis Fitz-Gerald); stowaway teenager Jack (Rhiana Griffith) who has run away from his parents; settlers John 'Zeke' Ezekiel (John Moore) and his partner Sharon 'Shazza' Montgomery (Claudia Black); and Richard B. Riddick (Vin Diesel), a dangerous "criminal," murderer and feared monster, with unusual eyes - he can see in the dark but is hurt by daylight, so he wears protective goggles in the daytime. As the dust settles, Fry finds Owens is impaled by a metal shaft. She seeks painkillers from the back, but the back of the cabin is gone. With Owens in terrible pain, Fry orders everyone out of the ship, and alone attends to him as he dies. Riddick has partially got free in the chaos but is quickly arrested by Johns. Riddick is blindfolded, chained, and tied inside the ship, while the rest of the survivors come out of the shipwreck and look around. They find that the planet is a barren and bright hot desertscape. In the distance is a low hill, spiked with many spires (chimney-like structures tapering to the top). The compass needle sways rudderlessly, so there is no sense of direction. They can breathe in its air, though breathing is difficult. As Fry joins them outside, they thank her as "captain" for saving their lives from a hopeless situation, but she is unsure having tried to sacrifice them earlier. Some 50 meters away from the main cabin of the wreck-ship, lies the Cargo Hold cabin, where Paris finds his bottles of luxury wine, but they have no water. Imam gives hope - "All deserts have water. It only waits to be found." Meanwhile, Riddick sitting tied at hands, legs, eyes, and mouth, escapes using his extraordinary skills bending his shoulders. There is extreme fear about Riddick among the rest of the survivors, due to his notorious past. Johns has them all pick some weapon from the shipwreck (including some antique weapons of Paris), with the message that Riddick would come back to get things of need, so be ready to kill him or be killed by him. Jack is an exception, as he admires Riddick to the point of idolizing him. Outside the shipwreck, Zeke, Shazza, and Jack make a breather aid, to push oxygen intake on need. Johns scans the horizon with his telescope looking for Riddick. It seems to be late afternoon and sunset will happen soon, so Fry asks Imam to get on searching for water while it's cool enough and before nightfall. That's when they see something stunning on the horizon - there are three suns, promising everlasting daylight! A yellowish pair of suns very close to each other are setting, while a blueish sun is rising in the opposite direction. With no nightfall, they should be able to continue searching - for Riddick and water. Imam takes the blue sunrise as the direction from God to search the blue water. Johns is happy that Riddick won't have the advantage of the dark and takes the blue sunrise as the direction to search Riddick (who being comfortable in darkness would have gone opposite of sunset direction). Johns has half the group (Shazza, Paris, Jack, and Zeke with a gun) keep vigil at the wreck-ship, warning them to shoot Riddick on sight, otherwise, there would be a few silent kills, apparently by Riddick's knife skills. The remaining group (Imam, his 3 Muslim boys, Fry, and Johns with his gun) sets off searching, in/towards the blue sunlight (as the other two suns have set). Johns finds "trees" in his telescope and that means water. However, on reaching there, they see it's a huge bone structure, lying along a long channel of giant skeletons of animals. They think it's a mass graveyard/boneyard and wonder - is this whole planet dead and who killed them all? The dying Owens had uttered "Don't touch that handle" to Fry, apparently referring to the rod piercing his chest, but subconsciously repeating his earlier words to her when she pulled the handle to drop the passenger cabin. Johns, who had picked up this hint, now finds Fry alone near the skeleton's shade and confirms with her that she indeed tried to sacrifice the passengers, with the promise that he won't tell anyone. However they are not alone; hiding behind in the shade is Riddick, with his shiv (knife) made of bone. Through their conversation, Riddick has silently cut away, contrary to the monster image of his, a piece of her hair. Leaving the boneyard, the group continues scouting and walks through a narrow canyon that has many spires at the ridge tops and a rib cage skeleton making an archway over the path. Near the end of the canyon, they begin to find man-made objects like a solar toy robot and soon reach a complete human settlement, long abandoned. They find water-related items like jugs, a moisture-recovery machine, tap, and conclude there was once water here. Fry finds a dark room that has an orrery, a mechanical model that shows the motion of the planets around their sun(s). She tries a voice command to switch on the lights but gets no response, so she opens the windows to let sunlight in, and the solar-powered orrery starts running. The model shows that there are 3 suns (two yellowish ones close by and another bluish one away) and three planets between them. One of the end planets has a Saturn-like ring and the middle planet apparently is the one where they have landed. Having suns on either side, the planets should get everlasting sunlight, which explains why the rooms don't have any light bulbs. The model has the option to set the year which arranges the orbits accordingly. As she exits, she finds to her utter delight, a skiff (small spaceship) at the back of the settlement. Back at the wreck-ship, Paris, Shazza, and Jack are near the containers, and Zeke is a watchable distance away near the hill, digging a mass grave, all at the same time nervously watching out for Riddick. They mistakenly shoot an unknown man who looked like Riddick, but he was just a survivor of the crash. Zeke's dug grave is amongst a group of spires and when he brings the bodies there to be buried, he sees a hole in the grave. He inspects the hole and is dragged inside by some unseen force and killed, despite firing his guns. Shazza runs to the place and finds blood everywhere. Also, sitting there is Riddick, knife in hand. As Riddick runs off, Shazza takes him to be Zeke's murderer and they chase him. Johns had heard the gunshot while inspecting the skiff-ship with Fry and had come back. The fleeing Riddick is intercepted by Johns who fights him, tearing off his protective goggles, blinding him with the sun, and he is re-chained in the shipwreck. Fry questions the chained Riddick, who sarcastically confesses, repeating the exaggerated stories about him being whispered around the group who are so fearful of him. When Fry still probes, he replies he is no longer the group's biggest problem, hinting that some unknown creatures killed Zeke and the body may be deeper inside the hole. Fry notices his peculiar shiny eyes and the fanboy Jack asks how he can see at night. Riddick points to his past where he was kept in prison for years away from daylight and a surgical job which led to those changes. Though Johns warns that Riddick is lying (that something else killed Zeke), Fry begins to believe Riddick and decides to investigate the hole. Tethered by a safety wire to the outside, Fry enters deep inside the tunnel where Zeke disappeared and finds his severed ankle and boot. She sees several conical openings to the top through which sunlight beams into the cave - those are apparently the inside of the spires they have seen from outside, and the home of the alien inhabitants of the planet. As she finds the aliens lurking there in the shade and making strange sounds, she freaks out screaming and somehow escapes into another hole, helped by the group outside. Having found bigger problems to handle, Johns unchains Riddick to fight for survival, promising him freedom and under the condition that he won't carry his shiv (knife). The group packs up some belongings and a power cell from the wreck-ship (to test the skiff-ship) and heads to the settlement, a big load on a metal sled being dragged along by Riddick, now part of the group. At the settlement, they try to repair the skiff-ship. Though Paris observes it's very old, Fry thinks if they can adapt its old electrical system to theirs, it will work. Shazza observes it's low capacity (two-seater) and probably cannot go far, but Riddick says even this two-seater can take them to the solar-track shipping lanes from where they can be rescued. Johns stops Riddick from going inside the skiff-ship and diverts him to find materials to repair the wings. Fry manages to power on the skiff-ship for a system check. She calculates they will need five power cells to launch the skiff-ship, as it needs 90 Gig power and each cell is 20 Gig. They need to fetch four more cells from the wreck-ship, each cell being 35 kg. There is a solar-powered sandcat vehicle at the settlement, which Shazza repairs to carry the heavy load. Elsewhere in the settlement, the moisture machine has been repaired and Imam and his boys are overjoyed as water drops from the tap there. Jack has found a shaving tool, shaves his head, and dons a pair of goggles in emulation of his idol Riddick. Riddick explores around and finds one Coring Room which strangely is chain-locked from the inside. Jack, along with the Muslim boy Ali, playfully followed him there, Jack hiding on top of the room and Ali sneaking inside the room. Riddick and Jack come back from there as the group is having a "party," apparently celebrating the newfound water. At the gathering, the group discusses the many items left behind at the settlement. They reckon that its former residents were geologists, but wonder why they left the planet and left behind those many items, including the skiff-ship. While Others try to rationalize, Fry doubts and Riddick states baldly that the former occupants are all dead, and by the same creatures who killed Zeke. All this while Ali is still in the nearly dark Coring room, which unfortunately has Alien birds nesting near its ceiling. Riddick had unknowingly uncovered the solar equipment on its roof and slowly an automatic shutter opens, letting sunlight in. As light falls on the nest, hundreds of bat-like Alien birds (apparently young, not fully grown ones) fly around screeching. Ali, in panic, runs into another dark room inside, as do the birds. Hearing his screams, the others come and break open the Coring room. When they open its inner room, the flock of flying creatures comes out and quickly flies down into the coring shaft, apparently avoiding light in the room. They find and bury the boy's body. They throw a flare light down into the coring shaft to see what's in there and find a huge number of human skulls and skeletons. Riddick explains the geologists had hidden there thinking it to be safe but were killed by the flying aliens through some gaps. Shazza offers Riddick her breather, trying to apologize for thinking he killed Zeke. Fry finds a coring sample dated 22 years ago, of the same month as now. She returns to the planetary model and flips through the year setting. They realize that every 22 years there is a total eclipse, as all the 3 planets and the suns on either side align, thus plunging the middle planet into complete darkness. Not only that, the 3 planets then move as one for some time, thus the eclipse should last for a prolonged period of days or months. Fry and others rush on their plan to bring the power cells from the wreck-ship to the skiff-ship, repair the wings, and fly out of the planet, all in time before darkness falls (though nobody knows exactly when that will happen). Johns warns against that, telling Fry that Riddick escaped the last time by flying a ship and killing the pilot, so they must not fetch the power cells to the skiff-ship until the last minute, lest Riddick does it again. Fry is rather happy that in Riddick they have another person to pilot a spaceship. Soon Riddick gets Fry alone inside the skiff-ship and contrary to her fear and imagination, rather gives his version of things - his promised freedom, that Johns is not a cop but a bounty hunter, and hints about Johns' drug problem. Fry confronts Johns about the new finding about him and he admits he isn't a cop. She finds Johns shooting morphine into his eyeball and has a stash of morphine and is angry that he didn't give those painkillers when Owen was dying painfully. She wonders what else is Johns hiding and whether he can be trusted to decide the actions for the group. He shows her the wounds he received from Riddick and asserts that how he takes care of himself, drugs or not, is none of her business and she should rather look to herself (hinting at how selfish she was during the crash and she is hiding it and deciding the actions of the group who now think her as the captain). They come out to see that the yellow suns have risen (the blue sun apparently has set), but also, the ring of the other planet appears on the horizon and the massive planet is about to eclipse all sunlight. They hurriedly ride the sandcat vehicle back from the settlement through the canyon back to the wreck-ship and load the power cells on the sled to be dragged. Darkness falls rather quickly, rendering the solar-powered vehicle useless before they can go back to skiff-ship. The rings of the planet cover one sun, then the other sun, and finally the body of the planet covers both suns, thus transitioning from gloomy sunlight to twilight to pitch black. In the twilight, they hear a growing squealing sound from the spires and soon see thousands of mid-sized young aliens flying up into the sky. The men flee to the shelter of the cargo hold cabin (as the main cabin is half open), but Shazza and Riddick fall behind and have to drop to the ground as a torrent of flying creatures passes over. Shazza panics and tries to make a run for it, but is quickly torn into pieces and then carried off in the air. Riddick survives by laying low until the flock flies off. Riddick now removes his goggles and watches in his eyes the distant darkness as the spires break and fully grown alien birds emerge. As they explore inside the cargo hold, which has now become a prison for them, the aliens' sound and wall-piercing blades drive them further and further in. Riddick finds a big alien eating a smaller one in the dark corner of the room, which is when Hassan stumbles in there and both try to stand still, hiding. But when multiple big aliens sit close by and bring out their scythe blades from near their sharp claws, Hassan runs in fear and is killed. Riddick runs off towards the rest of the group who put lights that way and Riddick howls away from the light in his face, and so does the alien behind him. Johns shoots down an alien, and they see that light actually burns their flesh which explains the creatures' light aversion. The creature has vertical curved bone blades on the skull, a mouth with teeth for eating and probably smelling, two long horizontal bone ears, a fleshy body, bird-like claws, scythe-blades that emerge from its sole, wings supporting limited flight, and no eyes (consistent with the nature of their totally dark environment). It locates an object by sending sound through the mouth, receiving the echo through the ears, and imaging the sound. Johns thinks the darkness should be over soon, but Imam reminds: the planets in the model were moving as one during the eclipse, so there would be a lasting darkness. Fry wants to stick to the plan -- move with the cells to the skiff-ship and fly off this planet. Since the aliens fear the light, Fry suggests they use light as cover while moving in the dark. Johns calls that a mass suicide and would rather wait for the suns to rise again, but Fry points out that strategy did not work for the geologists hiding in the coring shaft. Fry and Johns' argument ends in heated and hateful barbs at each other. The rest of the group takes her as captain to be followed, but who can find the correct path in the dark (even though they have seen the path: wreck-ship to open-ground to the boneyard to the canyon to skiff-ship)? Suddenly Riddick is their means of survival - Fry decides Riddick would lead them with his night vision. They move to the main cabin of the wreck-ship, ready the sled with the 4 cells, and bring as much light as possible, including flares, cutting torch, bottles of inflammable spirit, and glow tubes connected to a central machine. Riddick cautions them: avoid bloody cuts as the aliens have an acute sense of smell for the blood. Jack is particularly alarmed at this, the reason for which is revealed later. Finally, they head out in the dark, Riddick leading them with a flashlight at his back and darkness in his front, and... several alien creatures following them and keeping in the shadows away from the light. Paris drops a flashlight and Jack leaves the sled to get it, sparking an alien attack. Jack is saved, but Paris panics and crawls away, breaking the entire glow tube system, and quickly his lights go out and he is stabbed by an alien. As he puts to flame his last sip of wine, the terrifying sight of surrounding aliens flashes for a moment. The aliens hungrily feast on him in the dark, watched on by Riddick, who then notices that Jack is a preferred target of those creatures. They continue walking with flares and other lights, but the road seems endless. They find that they have crossed their own tracks, and angrily ask where Riddick is taking them in the dark. Riddick replies he took an extra round as he needed time to think because a death row in the form of the canyon is ahead and because "the girl" is bleeding. The group is stunned to discover that "Jack" is a girl masquerading as a boy to protect herself and is "bleeding." Their earlier passage through the canyon had shown the walls to be full of spires at the top, implying a den of the alien predators, so a bloody girl there with nowhere to escape should be on death row, given the aliens' sense for blood. Fry now realizes the mortal danger they are in now and ahead, with the destination a couple of hundred meters away, and says they should go back to the ship. Johns slaps away her suggestion, recalling her earlier remarks and revealing to the rest her attempts to sacrifice the passenger cabin. The light moves forward - to the skiff-ship. They now move into the boneyard, with Johns and Riddick walking ahead of the rest. To survive the canyon ahead, Johns proposes "sacrifice one to save many;" and let Riddick kill "Jack," to be dragged some feet behind the sled, as a bloody bait for the aliens. Riddick is angry at his thought process and fights Johns aiming to kill him. Fry (who had already been suspicious and kept more distance) and others run back in panic, as the fight continues. Riddick cuts John's back with his knife, then merges into darkness as Johns' light on the floor goes out. Johns readies his gun while his bleeding wounds and movement draw aliens, and his gun fails him as he is stabbed by an alien and eaten. Riddick rejoins the group who are running back to the wreck-ship (but without direction thus burning up their light) and refocuses them to walk towards the skiff-ship. When they mourn hearing Johns' death, Riddick slams that, hinting at the kind of thoughts reciprocated for them by Johns. In the boneyard, Riddick finds an alien predator's skeleton, studies its strengths and weaknesses, and realizes the alien has a blind spot at the center, in between its two bone ears. Then Imam joins him and preaches about believing in God, and Riddick hints at his tortured life in the past, which is why he believes in God... and absolutely hates Him. About to enter the canyon, they see it's indeed a death row with a narrow path, and high walls filled with aliens and their sounds all around. As they hesitate, Riddick asks them to see only one way, the way to go off this planet. Riddick takes the power cells, either as a desperate life-saving strategy to enable others to run fast or as a plan to fly off the planet alone as Johns predicted. Riddick puts on his goggles - either he expects the light in his face as the others should run faster, or he does not want to see the dangers of the dark but only the way out. Finally, all of them run for their lives through the canyon, with Riddick dragging alone the 4 power cells tied together and keeping pace with the others. As they run, a torrent of mid-sized aliens come flying towards them and quickly go over due to the lights. Now they see aliens fighting each other overhead in midair, apparently showing cannibalism from years of hunger. Dead and half-dead aliens and their blue fluid drops down on the ground and they try to run through them. The last Muslim boy gets a bloody leg as one of the fallen aliens grabs his foot. Riddick keeps walking as if he is abandoning them, but "Jack" is attacked by an alien and Riddick turns back to fight the alien hand to hand (apparently blocking its scythe blade at the feet), cuts its flesh with his knife, and finally kills it. Suddenly it starts to rain, perhaps indicating the cycle of life on the planet - years of heat followed by night's cool and rains of water. The rain threatens what little light they have left. As they look for cover, the last boy pilgrim is snatched by the aliens. Riddick finds a cave for them to hide in, and sends Fry, "Jack" and the Imam inside, but then closes the opening, himself moving on. "Jack" worries that Riddick is leaving them since he has the power cells and the skiff-ship just after the canyon. Soon all their light goes out in the cave, and they find glowing slugs on the cave walls and fill their empty bottles with those to make lamps. Fry leaves the cave with a lamp and heads for the skiff-ship. Riddick is there on the pilot seat, preparing to launch, leaving the rest to their fate. He opens the door for her, and she invites him to go back together to bring Imam and "Jack" back. Riddick, instead, persuades her to get on the skiff-ship and leave with him, abandoning the rest. She cries, with visions of the passengers on the ship during the crash flashing in her mind. She attacks Riddick and insists they go back for "Jack" and the Imam. He holds a knife to her neck and asks if she would die for them, and, to his bemusement, she confidently says yes. Back at the cave, "Jack" and Imam find the rock at the opening moving aside and it's a moment of joy and relief for them when they find Fry and Riddick there. All four run to the settlement, but multiple aliens are in the way. They run through them and Riddick sends the rest ahead, himself lagging behind to absorb the attack. The three reach the skiff-ship and Riddick too manages to reach close, but an alien suddenly blocks his way between the buildings. Riddick smartly sways back and forth with it, staying in its blind spot. Unfortunately, as he draws away, a second alien appears behind him and he is "visible." The others have hesitated at the skiff-ship, thinking him dead, but then they hear him yell. As Fry rushes towards the sound, Riddick drops down on the ground in front of her, bloody, wounded, gasping, but still clutching his knife. She tries to lift him to his feet, to get to the skiff-ship, but he is too big and heavy. She says "I said I'd die for them, not you." He is finally vertical when she is suddenly stabbed from behind by an alien, then pulled away into the air as it flies away with her. He collapses to the ground and lets out in pain - "Not for me." Imam and "Jack" chat as Riddick takes the pilot seat, turns on the switches, powers up the engines, getting the skiff-ship ready to go. Surprisingly, he shuts the switches back off, making the others restless for take-off and relief. Quickly, the aliens are drawn to the now-dark area, menacing the skiff-ship from all sides. He now powers up the skiff-ship's engines again and they take off. His "parting goodnight" for those inhabitants of the planet is a deadly blow - the bright light and the force of the engines kill the surrounding aliens all around them as they exit the atmosphere. In space, the three survivors, the Imam, "Jack" and Riddick, are relieved that their ordeal is over and watch the darkness give way to sunlight. "Jack" asks Riddick what they should tell the authorities about him when they are questioned. He tells her "Riddick is dead, he died somewhere on the planet," implying his transformation back to a caring human heart.

In a Brooklyn housing project, a group of "clockers" - street-level drug dealers - sell drugs for Rodney Little (Delroy Lindo), a local drug lord. Rodney tells Ronald "Strike" Dunham (Mekhi Phifer), one of his lead clockers, that another dealer, Darryl Adams (Steve White), is stealing from him and "got to be got", implying that he wants Strike to kill Darryl. Strike then meets with his brother, Victor Dunham (Isaiah Washington) and tries to persuade Victor to kill Darryl Adams. Rocco Klein (Harvey Keitel) and Larry Mazilli (John Turturro), homicide detectives, ride to the scene of Darryl Adams' murder. Larry and Rocco receive a phone call from another detective who says a man has confessed at a local church that he killed Darryl. The police meet Strike's older brother Victor at the church and take him in for questioning. In the interrogation room, Victor tells Rocco that he shot Darryl Adams in self-defense. Rocco finds holes in this story and starts looking into Victor's background which includes two jobs, a wife, two children, no criminal record, and aspirations to move out of the projects; Rocco comes to the conclusion that Victor is covering for his younger brother. Rocco pressures Strike but Victor sticks to his story, so Rocco convinces Rodney that Strike has confessed and informed on Rodney's drug ring. Rocco arrests Rodney and then humiliates Strike in front of his crew. Strike gets together some money and decides to leave town, but a younger boy who admired Strike shoots Errol, Rodney's enforcer, with Strike's gun. Rocco lets Strike leave town.

Dr. Richard Sturgess and his colleagues cut red tape at a poorly-run hospital for veterans. A group of doctors in a veteran's hospital must contend with their hopeless situation: too many patients and not enough beds. The main cause of their problems is bureaucratic belt-tightening by the hospital administrators. Two garbage men uncover a conspiracy involving illegal toxic waste dumping and decide to bring the whole operation down. Carl and James are two pleasant but unambitious garbage men. Carl has binoculars with which he observes his neighbors. One evening he sees a man giving a female neighbor a hard time. As she leaves he shoots the man with a pellet gun. Hiding, he and James miss two men strangling the man and leaving with the body. When he appears in a can on their route they are afraid and hide the body, fearing that they may be implicated in the death. Trying to crack the case, they spy on the woman, join up with a slightly to majorly crazed Vietnam vet, kidnap a pizza man and help to protect the ecology. —Anonymous

A British art expert travels across America in order to purchase a rare Renoir painting in the South but comes across some crazy characters in the process. Young Englishman Henderson Dores (Daniel Day-Lewis), yearning to give up his genteel British ways and be a bold and brash American, gets his chance when his New York firm sends him south to acquire a Renoir painting from Loomis Gage (Harry Dean Stanton), the eccentric head of an unusual family. Working at a New York City auction house as a nineteenth century art expert under the direction of Edgar Beeby, the father of his overbearing socialite fiancée Melissa, stereotypical uptight Brit Henderson Dores moved to the US to expand his horizons i.e. to break out of his staid British rut. Edgar sends him to rural Luxora Beach, GA upon news that a man named Loomis Gage wants to sell what was thought to be a long lost Pierre-Auguste Renoir painting, Henderson estimating its value in auction upwards of $10 million, which would make it one of the house's most lucrative acquisitions. Already feeling like a fish out of water in New York, Henderson feels even more so in rural Georgia in dealing with Loomis and his stereotypical backwoods, eccentric and disparate family, each member who has his or her own motivation separate from Loomis.
