An ex-minister is trying to get back his laptop from an auditor, who is blackmailing him from Kasi for Rs. 10 crores. It contains data regarding the minister's wealth from corrupt sources. Then there are the three young men, the three young women and a plethora of other characters with their own problems, who get involved in the ongoing madness.

The film is a horror comedy and a sequel to the hit Tamil film - Aranmanai. The story is about a family living in a sprawling mansion who face a series of paranormal activities.

The protagonist - Saravanan runs a company that supplies man power to political meetings and campaigns. He falls in love with Maya when they meet by chance. Saravanan`s father has three sisters who have an enmity with him. How Saravanan unites his father with his sisters forms the crux of the story.

Ashok Raj (Dileep) is a lawyer, whose interest lies in reviving a defunct drama troupe called Bharatha Kalakshetram, which used to be run by his family. His elder brother Babu Raj (Biju Menon), who runs a company, is now in a financial mess. Balasubrahmanyam (Bhagyaraj) is a bank officer who has come to initiate legal proceedings against Babu Raj to get him to repay the loan that he had taken to start his venture. As it turns out, Balasubrahmanyam is now separated from his wife Raja Mallika (Khushboo), who lives with her daughter Raja Lakshmi (Sanusha) and her mother Raja Kokila (Sheela), the owner of Raja`s group of companies. The trio believe that a woman can survive easily, without the help of a man. The entry of Ashok Raj into their lives forces them to rethink about their opinion.

Rajnikant plays the role of Superstar and his friend is Pasupathy who plays a barber. Pasupathy`s wife is played by Meena, while Nayantara is Rajni`s pair. The story is about friendship and such noble values. About how Rajnikant is busy with his career and doesn`t have much time for his friend. The film has a remarkable climax which so impressed Rajni that he wanted to do the film.

The rest of the story is all about how Yama (Mohan Babu) and Raja try to outsmart each other. After regaining power, Yama sends Raja back to earth, only to take away his life once again. How Raja escapes from the wrath of Yama and lives a long life with Mahi, whom he loves later, forms the crux of the story.

Starring Cheeranjivi, ``Stalin`` is the story of an ex-Army man, who is disturbed by the apathy that unabashedly prevails in the society. He aims at establishing a social system wherein everyone helps one-another, for which he devices a ``chain theory``. Will he be able to reform the social order?
