Veerappan is an Indian docu-drama thriller based on the events leading to Operation Cocoon to capture or kill Indian bandit Veerappan. The story revolves around the search of Veerappan by a group of police officers headed by Kannan. Kannan is a non-conformist, one who would willingly flout rules as long as Veerappan is captured. The film begins directly with the planning of Operation Cocoon. This was a mission headed by the Commander of the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force, Vijay Kumar, the mastermind behind Veerappan`s final assault. The plot tracks the team`s attempts to corner Veerappan. Priya is hired by Kannan to befriend Muthulakshmi, so that the STF can get closer to her husband Veerappan. The goal is clear - Veerappan has to be lured out of the forest. Will Kannan be successful in his mission and will he be able to find Veerappan?

The film stars Ruhi Singh as Rhea, a free-spirited girl, whose life turns upside down when her father gets appointed as the Prime Minister of India. The fiercely independent Rhea starts to feel stifled because of the security team that accompanies her wherever she goes and the young lady jumps at the chance of an adventure provided by a mysterious stranger Aryan Shekhawat (Krishna Chaturvedi), who she runs off with while on a vacation in South Africa, much to the anguish of her security team led by RAW agents Lisa Ray and Jaaved Jaaferi. During the day, Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson) is a normal man (even if slightly naive to the workings of the world) working in the construction industry. During the night time, he transforms into his alter-ego, Defendor, protecting the streets from thugs. The city has a problem with thugs and nobody is prepared to stand up and fight for themselves. The police are slow to catch the wrongdoers and Arthur has a huge willpower to do what he can to help the people. He helps Kat (Kat Dennings) one night from Dooney - when she really didn't need any help - she was a hooker. Dooney (Elias Koteas) is a corrupt cop in the police force and he is in cahoots with a Serbian mob boss. Arthur has been searching for Captain industry all his life as he had killed his mother. Kat and Arthur become friends and Defendor goes after Captain Industry knowing that there is a very high chance of dying or getting arrested.
