Yet another memorable film from the Yashraj Films stable, Nakhuda is the story of how in the darkest despair blooms the sweetest flowers of love and hope. For Ravi (Raj Kiran), despairing that he will never be able to pay off his debts, hope was in Shaikhoo Dada (Khulbhushan Kharbanda) who lends him the money and what Ravi gives Shaikhoo in the way of love and affection is something that no amount of money can ever pay back. More flowers of happiness bloom as Ravi gets a job and marries Sonia (Swaroop Sampat), the daughter of the wealthy Seth Jagannath (Madan Puri). As Ravi gains success, he never forgets the man he worships, Shaikhoo. But Seth Jagannath cannot accept that his son-in-law should hold an illiterate, poor man as his God and slowly begins to deviously sow seeds of dissension between Shaikhoo Dada and Ravi. Shaikhoo Dada realizes this will tear Ravi's world apart and starts deliberately creating circumstances where Ravi will lose all respect for him. And where once there was worship, now there is loathing. Will Ravi ultimately discover the truth, will he once more find his God?

A poor man, Ali Baba lives in the town of Gulabad (Dharmendra), somewhere in Central Asia, with his mother (Sofiko Chiaureli) and elder brother Qasim (Yakub Akhmedov), who owns a small, petty shop. Ali Baba's father, Yousuf (Zakir Mukhamedzhanov), is a merchant in a faraway land who has not returned to Gulabad since his departure after Ali Baba' birth. Ali Baba makes a living out of selling timber cut from the hills. Gulabad is terrorized by a band of 40 bandits. They hide their loot in a magical cave in the deserted hills. When the bandit leader Abu Hasan recites the magical spell, it opens (Open Sesame), and when he says another spell, it closes (Close Sesame). A young girl named Fatima (Zeenat Aman) has a score to settle with Abu Hassan. Fatima and her father (Madan Puri) were travelling in a caravan some time ago, when Abu Hasan attacked it. Abu Hasan realized that Fatima's father knew the secret to gun powder which was a revolution in the battlefield in those days. Abu Hasan captures Fatima's father to learn the secret of the gunpowder. Ali Baba and Qasim rejoice when they receive letter from their father Yousuf that he is on his way to Gulabad and is bringing a lot of merchandise with him. Unknown to the brothers, Fatima is working as a spy for Abu Hasan and tells the thieves the location of Yousuf's caravan. Fatima is also used as a courier to buy all the raw materials needed for her father to make gunpowder in captivity. Abu Hasan and his men attack the caravan and destroy the dam that supplies water to Gulabad. The Qazi of the region announces a reward for the capture of notorious bandit Abu Hassan (Rolan Bykov). He also plans to dig wells all over Gulabad where people will be able to buy water. But the poor people know that they will not be able to afford the water and want the dam to repaired. Ali Baba finds that his father has gone missing and finds the sacks from his shop at the dam site, indicating that Fatima knows something about the attackers. Marjeena's father, the King of a nearby Kingdom, had found Yousuf near death and gave him shelter and nursed him back to health. The King had found carrier pigeons with Yousuf and sent a message that Yousuf was safe and their location. The message was received by Ali Baba. His mother gives Ali Baba a family ring to help recognize Yousuf who had the exact same ring. Unknown to them, that ring had been stolen to Abu Hasan. Fatima's father knows that she will never be freed till he is a hostage. He gives Fatima a letter, which she opens after she is sent again to gather supplies. Her father had said that he will commit suicide and asks her never to return to Abu Hasan's cave. Ali Baba goes to the Kingdom and not only finds his father (but they both do not recognize each other as Yousuf did not have the ring on him) but also rescues princess Marjeena (Hema Malini) from the guards of the usurper Shamsher (Prem Chopra) who murdered her father to become the new King. Both Marjeena and Ali Baba fall in love with each other. They hide within a caravan to escape Shamsher, while Yousuf distracts Shamsher's forces. The caravan leader Mustafa (Frunzik Mkrtchyan) has his eyes on Marjeena and when she resists his lust, she is taken captive, along with Ali Baba. As Ali Baba is about to be killed, Yousuf intervenes and vouches for Ali Baba. Yousuf finds the signet ring on Ali Baba and reveals that he is his father (he says that his own signet ring might be with Abu Hasan). During their reunion, the caravan is attached by Abu Hasan and his forces. Yousuf is injured while Marjeena is taken captive by Mustafa. Ali Baba takes Yousuf to Gulabad, where he dies. Yousuf tells Ali Baba to rebuild the dam for Gulabad. Now Qasim recognizes Fatima in Gulabad since she had come to his shop to buy supplies. Qasim wants Fatima to reveal the location of Abu Hasan's cave, which is filled with treasure. Fatima decides to expose herself in Gulabad, knowing that some of Abu Hasan's spies are bound to recognize her. She and Qasim lie in wait to be attacked. But Fatima is attacked by Ali Baba instead (who had also recognized her as the girl who bought supplies from Qasim), who believes that Fatima is part of Abu Hasan's gang. As Abu Hasan's men attack, Ali Baba is forced to fight them, while Qasim escapes with Fatima. Qasim did not want to share his secret with Ali Baba. After burying Yousuf, Ali Baba finds out that Marjeena is being sold in the slave market, he borrows 1000 Dinars from Qasim (who makes him sign a paper declaring that Ali Baba has sold his share of Yousuf's property to Qasim) and uses that to pay for Marjeena. Qasim wants complete control, and as a result, decides to evict Ali Baba from their family home. Ali Baba and his mother leave the home, along with Marjeena. Qasim now hides Fatima in his house, but Fatima does not agree with his actions. Shortly, thereafter Ali Baba was cutting trees in the mountains when he discovers the secret hideout of Abu Hassan and its magic spells to open it. He takes some gold and jewelry from there, which he distributes among villagers to rebuild the dam and diverting some water to their parched land. Ali Baba's greedy brother Qasim lures Ali Baba into telling him where the cave is and what the magic spells are. Out of greed, Qasim takes so much gold jewelry and coin, as a result of which, he forgets the spell to reopen the door and gets stuck inside. When the bandits find him, they kill him. Ali Baba doesn't trust Fatima and captures her, but she escapes. Marjeena goes after Fatima but is found by Mustafa and Fatima helps to rescue Marjeena and this wins Ali Baba's trust. Fatima narrates her story and pledges her support to Ali Baba in killing Abu Hassan. Ali Baba then informs the Qazi about Abu Hassan's hideout. What Ali Baba does not know is that the Qazi and Abu Hassan are the same person, and that the Qazi has given instructions to his men to ensure that Ali Baba is killed, so that no one can get their hands on his treasure. Ali Baba is captured by Abu Hasan and his men. Abu Hasan tortures Ali Baba to reveal Fatima's location. But Marjeena helps Ali Baba to escape and return to Gulabad. Back in Gulabad, Ali Baba sees that Qazi is wearing Yousuf's signet ring and realizes that Qazi is Abu Hasan. Qazi claims publicly that he has killed Abu Hasan, and the 40 urns contain his wealth which will be distributed to the public. Abu Hassan hides the forty thieves in large urns to kill Ali Baba. Ali Baba kills them all with the help of Fatima. Ali Baba brings to light the startling truth in front of the public. Abu Hasan kills Fatima, before Ali Baba chases him back to the cave and kills Abu Hasan.

Noorie (Poonam Dhillon) lives in the Bhaderwah valleys with her father, Ghulam Nabi (Iftekhar) and her dog Khairoo, she has a boyfriend Yusuf (Farooq Shaikh), they decide to get married, the date is decided and preparations begin. But fate had something else in store. As another villager Bashir Khan (Bharat Kapoor) takes a liking to Noorie and approaches Noorie's father for her hand, to which Ghulam Nabi refuses. An angry Bashir Khan then arranges the murder of Gulam Nabi, through his men, using a falling tree. The marriage is suspended, few months later when the marriage preparations are back on, however a few days before the marriage Bashir Khan, who happens to be Yusuf's boss sends him on an errand out of town. While Yusuf is out of town Bashir Khan goes over to Noorie's house and rapes her. Noorie commits suicide and Yusuf gets to know that it all happened because of Bashir, so he runs behid him to kill him followed by Khairoo. They end up into a physical fight and Yusuf gets shot by Bashir. As Bashir runs back, he finds Khairoo there, who finally kills Bashir. Yusuf runs to the place where Noorie's body is and dies there. At the end they both are dug into the ground and unite with each other.

Dhoop Chhaon (Shammi Kapoor) is the owner of a cafe in Manoranjan street & is narrating the story in a train to a recently married Parsi couple. Havaldar Ratan (Sanjeev Kumar) is a rookie at the local police station and is assigned duty on foot patrol on Manoranjan Street, a notorious red-light area, on the very first day of his job. His senior constable (Asit Sen) is also assigned to the street and is notorious for collecting bribes from all pimps and goons to let them get on with their illegal activities. The constable would keep his cap on the table and all the pimps and goons would deposit the bribe in it. Ratan strikes up a conversation with a good-looking young woman named Nisha (Zeenat Aman) and tells her that there is a possible violation of Suppression of Immoral Trafficking Act taking place on this street. Ratan witnesses several women soliciting men, and decides to call in the paddy wagon, and get them arrested. Tingoo (Paintal) is the pimp of the area. Dhoop tries to explain the local economy to Ratan and tries to explain that he should not mess it up as many homes and families are sustained by the activities of the street. Dhoop wants Ratan that messing with the system would likely backfire on Ratan, but Ratan is adamant. While Dhoop and Ratan argue, Ratan's cap was on the table and as usual, the pimps and the goons deposit the bribe money in it. Balram (Dev Kumar) is the local don who is livid with Ratan interfering with his business and vows revenge. Alas, one of the men frequenting the prostitutes is none other than Ratan's superior officer (Madan Puri), who immediately summons Ratan. When Ratan removes his cap after saluting the officer, the bribe money falls out and the officer has him removed from service on corruption charges. Nisha takes pity on a homeless and unemployed Ratan and asks him to live with her. Balram manhandles Nisha for letting Ratan stay with her, but Ratan protects Nisha by beating up Balram. Since Ratan defeated Balram, he is accepted by the other pimps and goons, who were fed with Balram and his bullying ways. Balram was Nisha's pimp and now that job goes automatically to Ratan. Nisha's mother was a singer in Banaras who loved a man and came to Bombay. The man used to make fake currency notes and fled from the police. Nisha's mother was arrested instead, and Nisha was born in prison. Ratan does not want Nisha to sell her body and says that he wants to marry Nisha. Nisha does not like Ratan's views who considers prostitution as menial work and marriage as woman's savior. She says that she is happy where she is, and wants Ratan to accept her life, which he refuses to do. Nisha tells Ratan about a rich Nawab who used to visit her on Sunday's and paid her Rs 500 for the entire week, which meant she had 6 days off. So, Ratan decides to work at night, and during the day he takes on the guise of a rich Nawab Buland Dakhtar and spends time with her as a customer. As Nawab, Ratan only plays cards with Nisha for the entire time he spends with her and claims to be impotent. Tingoo informs Ratan that he has been selected as the head of the Bombay Dalla Union (union of pimps). Things go along smoothly, but the new job requires Ratan to stay away all night. The job is to be a live dummy for training attack dogs. The job is dangerous, but pays Rs 20/hour, which is a princely sum. Nisha thinks that Ratan is cheating on her. Nisha suspects her fellow prostitute Lolita (Faryal) is trying to seduce Ratan and proceeds to thrash her. But then again Nisha sees Ratan return home early morning and is sure that Ratan is sleeping with Lolita. She throws Ratan out of the house. Nisha tells the Nawab that she wants to run away with him to his palace to serve him for the rest of his & her life. Ratan decides that it is now time to get rid of the "Nawab", and he does so. Balram sees that Ratan and Nawab are the same person. Ratan finds that the police have been informed, by Nisha's ex-pimp & Ratan's enemy Balram, that Ratan has killed the Nawab, and they are out to arrest him. Dhoop advice Ratan to accept the murder charge to win over Nisha' love and to prove to her that his love is pure & he does so. Nisha sees how much Ratan loves her. Ratan then escapes police custody by running away. He then dresses up as the Nawab to prove to the police that there was no murder. The Commissioner of police (Murad) gets to know Ratan's case & how he was wrongfully fired for doing his job. Ratan is re-instated. Ratan & Nisha get married.

Sunil and Sonia, a young married couple, happen to stop at Sunil`s boss`s bungalow due to a storm. When his boss`s son tries to rape Sonia, Sunil steps in and kills him. But he is soon arrested for the crime, changing their lives forever.

Journalist Naresh is hired to probe illegal activities on an island. When he's captured, a fellow prisoner gives him a ring with magic powers. Naresh Kumar Saxena lives with his widowed mom and sister, Seema. He works as a freelance photographer and journalist. One day he meets with Mala Mehta and her dad, who is the Editor of a Newspaper. Mr. Mehta hires Naresh and assigns him to go to a remote island to investigate and expose some illegal activities there. Naresh goes there in the company of his friend, Shyam. Unfortunately, Naresh is caught by the island guards and lodged in a cell along with two others, one a scientist and Ram Singh, a hoodlum. The scientist confides in Naresh that he has invented an atomic ring that when inserted in someone's mouth will turn that person invisible, and subsequently passes away. Naresh puts the ring in his mouth, takes off his clothes, turns invisible and escapes. The news of his escape creates waves in the underworld and the Boss and Mr. Verma join forces to find Naresh, kill him, and keep the ring for themselves.
