Set in the early 1900s, Ramanujam traces the life of India`s prodigal math genius, Srinivasa Ramanujan. It showcases his entire life, beginning from his childhood to his years at Cambridge University. It also talks about his relationship with his mother Komalatammal, his wife Janaki and his professor G. H. Hardy. The film highlights how Indian society viewed a mathematician of such great stature.

Sura is an action-packed film, set in a fishermen colony. Vijay and Tammana play the lead-pair, supported by Pasupathi, Vadivelu and Riyaz Khan. Sura is a fisherman who becomes a one man army and fights injustice when goons try to swindle the simple fisherfolk.

A lover finds that his prospective father-in-law wants him dead. Based in Mumbai, Raja (Arjun) lives a violent yet poor lifestyle along with his father, Banwarilal. He meets with and comes to the rescue of Madurai/Mahendrapur-based belle, Mahalakshmi/Madhumita (Jyotika), and both fall in love with each other. When she returns home, her dad (Ashish Vidyarthi) finds that she is in love with Raja, instantly approves of him, and asks her to invite him, which she does. A hoodlum faces challenges from a rival gangster and local police after falling in love and deciding to go straight. Gemini (Vikram) is a hoodlum, who lives off extortions and petty crime. A brief love affair with the new girl on the block (Kiran), leads him on a path to reform, which ultimately pits him against the local goon Teja (Kalabhavan Mani). —Joyojeet Pal Chenni-based Gemini is a career criminal and extortionist, who often gets into violent clashes with his rival, Teja/Anees. While intervening on behalf of an auto-rickshaw drive, he meets with Marwari belle, Manisha Natwarlal, and both fall in love with each other. He conceals his background, and even enrolls himself in an evening college so they can be together. His cover is exposed when he is arrested by the new Director General of Police, Sengupermual. He manages to convince the Police as well as Manisha's extended family that he will abandon his criminal ways, but faces challenges when the past comes to re-visit in the shape and form of Ganga; Sengupermual gets transferred, and his replacement joins forces with Teja to ensure that Gemini does not survive. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

When a stuntman Pammal Kalyana Sambandham alias P.K.S and a reputed surgeon Dr. Janaki come across each other at his younger brother Anand's and her best friend Malathi's elopement, they instantly develop a dislike for each other. They both have a very low opinion of the opposite gender, and also refuse to believe in the concept of marriage. Sambandham humorously often censors his middle name "Kalyana" as it means "marriage". Janaki, in particular, hates Sambandham for his uncouth manners and language. She gets Sambandam arrested when he argues with her at the police station over Anand and Malathi's marriage. Sambandham is eventually released on bail. Anand and Malathi's marriage soon turns rocky as Malathi feels that Anand had lied to her over a job assignment in Australia before they had eloped. On the advice's of Janaki, Malathi harasses Anand at every opportunity and makes him do the household work. On hearing about Anand's plight, Sambandham decides to fix the relationship by "hooking up" Anand with a woman named Vanaja in order to make Malathi jealous and a more caring and dutiful wife to Anand. But, unfortunately for Anand, Janaki makes Malathi to believe that Anand is cheating on her and forces her to file for divorce. Meanwhile, Janaki tries to get Sambandham into trouble by barging into a movie shoot involving Sambandham and claiming that he is "involved" in animal cruelty since he is using a bull and a snake as part of the movie. In the chaos which was accidentally created by Janaki as she accidentally throws the snake on to the bull's head, the bull goes mad, the snake gets killed and the bull gores Sambandham in his stomach when he was trying save Janaki from the bull as it was trying to attack her. Janaki performs an emergency surgery on him and saves his life, but during the surgery, her prized possession (a wristwatch gifted to her by her aunt) falls into his stomach, which is detected by the X-Ray. She pretends to become close with Sambandham, with the intention to somehow sedate him and perform the surgery again to retrieve the watch. Sambandham, who is unaware that Janaki's watch is in his stomach due to a mix-up with another patient's X-Ray, mistakes Janaki's romantic overtures to be genuine, and falls in love with her. He also inadvertently foils all her plans to sedate him. Eventually, Sambandham provides another shock to Janaki; they are to be engaged at his grandfather's house. During the engagement ceremony, Janaki finally manages to sedate Sambandham and retrieve her watch. Following the surgery, Janaki reveals the truth to Sambandham and ends their engagement, leaving Sambandham heartbroken. Sambandham's troubles increase when he realizes that his grandfather had signed a legal document transferring his lodge to him once he is married. When his grandfather finds out that Janaki canceled the engagement, he suffers a massive heart attack and dies. Meanwhile, Malathi and Anand manage to reconcile and get back together, canceling their divorce. Janaki feels guilty over being responsible for Sambandham's grandfather's death. She also finds out that Sambandham had decided to transfer the ownership of the lodge to her and convert it to an orphanage if they had got married, and on this revelation, she realizes that she has fallen in love with him. She decides to confess her love to Sambandham, but instead she inadvertently convinces him to marry his relative, a weightlifter Rajeshwari alias Raji, within the next two days, as he would lose the possession of the lodge if he doesn't marry by then. However, it turns out that Raji has no interest in the marriage and is in love with a Malayali boy. In a hilarious climax, Sambandham, Janaki, Anand and Malathi help Raji in eloping with her boyfriend, and Sambandham and Janaki too elope as well, thus ensuring that the lodge remains under Sambandham's ownership.

Aravindan, Chandru and Krishnamoorthy are close friends who value friendship over everything else. They face trouble when someone tries to break them apart by spreading lies and misunderstandings.

A neurotic Sri Lankan patient crashes his psychotherapist's family vacation in Kodaikanal. Thenali (Kamal) is a traumatized Sri Lankan Tamil, who is beset by a variety of elaborate phobias. A psychiatrist Panchabhootam (Delhi Ganesh), convinced that Thenali is impossible, refers him to rival shrink Kailash (Jayaram). The doctor takes an instant dislike to his new patient, while his wife (Devyani) and sister (Jyothika) take more of a liking to him than Kailash would like. —Joyojeet Pal

Vasanth is a son of a wealthy businessman from Chennai and grows up with a possessive attitude, and is almost considered a psychopath by the audience. This is shown in one scene in a gift shop, where he breaks a gift which he likes solely as it had already been brought by someone else. He pays the owner to cover the damages but responds with a negative tagline - "If I can't get it, nobody can". He happens to visit Rajasthan, where he meets Priya and it is love at first sight for Vasanth. Priya is injured in an accident, and Vasanth's friend Vasanth Kumar rescues her by donating blood. Being unconscious, Priya does not know the face of her saviour, only the name "Vasanth Kumar". After she recovers, Priya comes to Chennai to meet Vasanth Kumar and stays in her uncle's house. However, Vasanth, who needs her at any cost, pretends to be Vasanth Kumar and makes advantage of her soft corner. He also manages to hide her from Vasanth Kumar. One day, Priya and Vasanth go to Sathyam Theater to watch a movie, but he unknowingly learns that Priya and Vasanth Kumar already know each other. He gets angry and breaks the ice creams brought for them. One day, Vasanth Kumar learns about Priya's and Vasanth's affair and greets them. Priya's father Rangarajan also learns about the affair but not about the possessive Vasanth. Vasanth and Priya go to Jaipur from Chennai to meet Rangarajan. While Priya is away from the home for a small work, Vasanth meets Rangarajan and admits the truth to him, but he refuses. Angered by his action, Vasanth kills him but later realizes his foolish mistake. CBI officers Muthukumaraswamy and Gopal begin to investigate the case. One day, Vasanth Kumar comes to Jaipur for a music audition, which he had missed when he donated blood to Priya. Vasanth arranges room for him but fears that he might find the truth. He goes to the hospital where Priya was admitted and tears the certificate of admission. Vasanth Kumar sees this, and they go to a nearby hill station. Vasanth Kumar starts arguing with Vasanth for cheating his name. Vasanth apologizes and admits the truth, but Vasanth Kumar abuses Priya. In anger, Vasanth accidentally beats Vasanth Kumar but tries to save him. Having no way, Vasanth Kumar sacrifices his life for his friend's sake. Shocked by this incident, Vasanth decides to transform himself into a good gentleman and thereby leaves his behaviour as that of a psychopath. Vasanth then sincerely starts to take care of Priya. Meanwhile, Muthukumaraswamy and Gopal come to know that the real murderer of Rangarajan and Vasanth Kumar is Vasanth. Priya also learns about this and runs from Jaipur. Vasanth searches for her and is finally beaten by Priya for cheating on her lover's name and for killing Rangarajan. After that, she notices her earring, which was taken by Vasanth when he first visited Jaipur. He tells her all the truths and the incidents. She feels sorry for him and decides to reciprocate his love. However, the police shoot Vasanth, and he dies immediately, unable to bear the pain. Priya bursts into tears. The film ends with a sad note with Vasanth advising the audience "not to live like him, because they will realize their terrific destiny". Alternative ending: When Vasanth was suffering from the pain caused by the police's gunshot, Priya realizes his love for her and reciprocates Vasanth's love. Both Vasanth and Priya hold their hands and run away from the police. Muthukumaraswamy and Gopal were about to pull out their guns, but they did not stop or shoot Vasanth from escaping. When they asked each other the reason for not stopping them, they explained to each other by saying that they know the value and pain of love. They let them go away and live together. The film ends on a happy note with Vasanth getting united with Priya and his love being successful.

Selvam and Bhaskar, two thieves with good intentions, hide with the help of Radha who is an illegitimate child living with his father's family in the guise of a maid. Radha (Roja) lives in her father's house as a maidservant as she is his illegitimate daughter and he does not have the courage to tell his wife the truth. She had been in love with her step-mother's brother Sanjay (Ajith) but on discovering her feelings he tells her he needs time to think. One day two petty thieves, Selvam (Karthik) and his friend enter the house to hide while the elders are away and she places them under 'house arrest' for three days. On releasing them she gives them some advice that convinces them to reform. Due to a misunderstanding Radha is accused of theft and thrown out of the house. Selvam finds a place for her in a hostel and makes many sacrifices in order to make her a famous singer. Finally Radha's family accept her as their daughter and Sanjay is ready to marry her, but who will she choose? —Andrea

An Inspector is assigned to track down a large sum of stolen money. His investigations lead him to a couple of small time crooks, a village belle, a murder, an absconding suspect, and an international drug dealer. Fresh printed bank notes to the value of incredible 10 billion rupies are stolen in India from a train by the henchmen of super-gangster Vikram living in London. The code card only being able to open the container with the money comes into the possession of beautiful Chandralekha. On the way to Vikram she comes across the two thieves Kadir and Azhagu who are on the run from the police - having in tow country-girl Rajathi whom they kept from committing suicide and who then ran away from her ruthless uncle. After some attempts of cheating each other Chandralekha is making friends with the thieves. When she discovers that Vikram is stopping at nothing - especially not at dead bodies - on his hunt after the loot, she informs the three others about the real value of the code card. In the following pursuit between Vikram, the four heroes and a special police brigade which has to get back the money before a state crisis comes about, not only fierce action, but also love comes to its own. —hthiess Portly CBI Inspector Laxminarayan is assigned to track down 1000 Crore Rupees worth of stolen currency from the Government Security Press in Nasik. His assignment will lead him to Ashok Tejani, and then to two burglars in Tamil Nadu, Shankar and Anand, who are on the run from the Police along with a suicidal village belle, Kajri.
