This musical comedy revolves around Harvey Miller who is skilled at golf but afraid of crowds. Unable to compete in tournaments himself, he starts coaching his friend Joe.

In order to cover up his philandering ways, a married Broadway producer sets one of his dancers up on a date with a chorus girl for whom he had bought a gift, but the two dancers fall in love for real. After his wife discovers a telltale diamond bracelet, impresario Martin Cortland tries to show he's not chasing after showgirl Sheila Winthrop. A former gangster makes it big in Hollywood, but his old life catches up with him. When a movie theater usher is fired, he takes up with criminals and finds himself quite adept at various illegal activities. Eventually though, the police catch up with him, and he runs to hide out in Los Angeles. There he stumbles into the movie business and soon rises to stardom.
