At Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a once-successful abandoned pizzeria, a scared night security guard attempts to flee from the building but is captured and strapped to a torture device, which kills him. Sometime later, mall security guard Mike Schmidt is fired for assaulting a negligent father whom he mistook for a kidnapper. Mike's career counselor, Steve Raglan, offers him a job as a night guard at the pizzeria. Though initially reluctant, Mike accepts after social services threaten to take custody of his younger sister, Abby, and pass her to their estranged aunt, Jane, who desires the custody's monthly payments. During his first night, Mike falls asleep and dreams about the kidnapping of his little brother, Garrett. He meets five children who also witnessed the crime, but they flee when he approaches them. The following day, Jane hires a gang of vandals, which includes Abby's babysitter, Max, to vandalize the pizzeria to get Mike fired and hasten Jane's custody of Abby. At Mike's shift that night, he meets police officer Vanessa Shelly, who explains that the building closed during the 1980s after five children went missing there. Once Mike's shift ends and he leaves, the vandals break in, but the pizzeria's animatronic mascots - Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and Mr. Cupcake - kill the entire group. Max's disappearance forces Mike to bring Abby along on his next shift, in which the animatronics befriend Abby and Mike discovers that they are possessed by the ghosts of the missing children, who consistently mention a "yellow rabbit". On the fourth night, Abby is accidentally injured when she, Mike, and Vanessa are bonding with the animatronics. The next morning, Mike reluctantly gets Jane to babysit a frustrated Abby as he goes back to the pizzeria and takes some sleeping pills. The children appear in his dream again and tell him that he can stay with Garrett forever in exchange for Abby. Mike initially accepts, but when he changes his mind, he is attacked. After being strapped to the torture device that killed the previous guard and narrowly escaping, Mike is cornered and injured by Foxy. Meanwhile, a damaged yellow Freddy animatronic, possessed by the leader of the children, kills Jane and takes Abby back to the pizzeria. Vanessa treats Mike's injuries and reveals that she is the daughter of William Afton, the serial killer who kidnapped and murdered Garrett and the other children. He hid their bodies in the animatronics, and now, their souls are under his control. Realizing the animatronics plan to kill Abby and have her join them in the afterlife, Mike rushes to the pizzeria. He defeats the animatronics, but Steve arrives wearing the "yellow rabbit" suit, reactivates them, and reveals himself to be Afton. Mike tries to incapacitate Afton, but is easily overpowered. Vanessa also attempts to stop Afton, but he stabs her with a knife. An injured Mike reminds Abby that the animatronics like drawings and tells her to show them what really happened. Abby draws a picture of Afton murdering the children to free them from his influence and make them realize the truth. With Mike's help, Abby shows the drawing to the animatronics, who turn on Afton. Mr. Cupcake bites off part of Afton's suit, triggering its internal spring lock mechanisms, which trap and fatally wound him. As the animatronics drag Afton away, Mike and Abby carry Vanessa out of the collapsing pizzeria. Some time later, Vanessa has fallen into a coma and is hospitalized, while Mike and Abby have reconciled and resume their normal lives. Back at the pizzeria, the leader of the children watches a dying Afton in the suit before leaving him to his fate.

As a child, shy and troubled Luke witnesses the aftermath of a mass shooting at a neighborhood coffee shop. He meets another boy among the onlookers at the scene: cool and confident Daniel, who invites him to play and quickly becomes his friend. Although adults such as Luke's mother Claire cannot see Daniel, he appears physically real to Luke. The boys become close playmates, and their connection helps Luke cope with his parents' divorce. Their friendship comes to an abrupt end when Daniel convinces Luke that blending an entire bottle of Claire's psychiatric medication into a smoothie will give her superpowers. Instead, it results in a near-fatal poisoning. Claire convinces Luke to send Daniel away by symbolically locking him in her mother's old dollhouse. Years later, the college-aged Luke is paralyzed by anxiety over his future, his social life and his responsibility to his mother, who struggles with paranoid delusions and a hatred of her own reflection. He confides to his therapist, Dr. Cornelius Braun, that he is afraid he will eventually become just like her. One night, while sleeping over at his childhood home, Luke unlocks the dollhouse. Daniel reappears as an adult. His influence initially appears benign as he helps Luke thwart Claire's suicide attempt, succeed in school, and begin a romance with an artist named Cassie. However, he quickly starts exhibiting aggressive behavior, becoming enraged when Luke doesn't obey him. When Luke won't have sex with a psychology student named Sophie on a date, Daniel forcibly takes over his body, has rough sex with Sophie and attacks Luke's roommate. Luke is banned from campus as a result and begins to question his own sanity, believing he may have schizophrenia. He attempts to banish Daniel back to the dollhouse but is unsuccessful. Luke becomes increasingly unstable, convinced that Daniel is taking over his body while he sleeps. He visits the father of John Thigpen, the shooter whose crime began the film, and learns John also had an invisible friend named Daniel. Luke begins to realize Daniel is a supernatural entity, not an imaginary friend. Dr. Braun makes a late-night house call in an attempt to separate Luke and Daniel, but only succeeds in allowing Daniel to take over Luke's body and banish Luke's consciousness to the dollhouse. Daniel then kills Braun. He decides his next target will be Cassie. Daniel reveals his true nature to Cassie, describing himself as "a traveler," before chasing her to the rooftop of her apartment building. Cassie begs Luke to come back to reality. Hearing her from inside the dollhouse, he summons the will to escape. In a final confrontation with Luke, Daniel claims he has helped people for centuries, but none of them have deserved his help. Luke calls him a parasite. Luke realizes he and Daniel can never truly be separated. After ensuring Cassie has escaped to safety, he kills himself by jumping from the roof. Cassie lies down beside his body. Daniel, surrounded by an otherworldly darkness, reverts to his true monstrous form, implying he will now seek out a new host.

The life of people frequenting The Florentine, a local bar, in the days leading up to the bartender's sister's wedding. The bar in an old Pennsylvania steel town, housed with many of life's losers and disillusioned men, is the main setting for this slice-of-life film. Michael Madsen is the bar owner, who is deep in debt to the town's book-maker and loan shark Burt Young. Chris Penn is one of the bar's main inhabitants as he hides from his failing marriage to Mary Stuart Masterson. The bartender's sister (Virginia Madsen) is about to be married, and her former fiancé (Tom Sizemore) shows up in town, after leaving her at the altar years before. Con man James Belushi runs a con on Perry to steal the money for the wedding caterer. Meg decides she wants to have a baby, which at first panics Duffy but soon becomes his top priority too. When they're unable to conceive, Meg concentrates on her career and the two drift apart and eventually separate. When Duffy later speaks at a convention of the Delta Gamma sorority, he reveals that Delta Gamma girls have always been his dream girls, then meets one of them, the uninhibited Daphne Delillo. When Daphne moves to New York City to work as a network sports reporter, their mutual attraction, and Daphne's spontaneity spark an adventurous new relationship for Duffy. Now Duffy must decide which is more valuable to him: the relationship he has given up, or the relationship he has always dreamed of having.

An upscale couple unable to conceive arrange a brokered adoption with a pregnant woman who doesn't hold up her end of the deal to give up the baby. Linda and Michael, married for 10 years, desperately want a baby and turn to an adoption agency that introduces them to pregnant teenager Lucy. The three agree that Linda and Michael will adopt Lucy's baby and that Lucy will sign away custody, but will things actually turn out that way, or will Lucy and her boyfriend decide that they want to keep their relationship and their baby?

A reincarnated man unknowingly falls in love with his own daughter from his previous life. Once he realizes this, he tries to end their relationship before angels erase his memory. Louie Jeffries is happily married to Corinne. On their first anniversary, Louie is killed crossing the road. Louie is reincarnated as Alex Finch, and twenty years later, fate brings Alex and Louie's daughter, Miranda, together. It's not until Alex is invited to Louie's home that he begins to remember his former life, wife and best friend. The movie begins with a funeral in a cemetery during the Vietnam War, with military rites. As the audience continues to see video from the funeral and hear bagpipes being played, a narrator reads a letter to "Sarge". In 1968 at Fort Myer, Specialist Jackie Willow arrives ready to serve. The Old Guard, an elite unit that participates in military funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, is based there. Sgt. Clel Hazard would rather be somewhere else, believing the soldiers at Fort Myer are "toy soldiers". But his requests for transfer have never been granted. While he would like to train troops to serve in Vietnam, he is opposed to the war and thinks the U.S. can't win. Willow, by contrast, would rather be serving in Vietnam. When there is a war, he believes that is where U.S. soldiers should be. Hazard has been assigned to "take care" of Willow because he served with Willow's father in Korea. Also welcoming Willow is Sgt. Maj. Goody Nelson. Willow meets with Capt. Thomas who explains Delta Company's prestige. Hazard shares an elevator with Samantha, a Washington Post reporter who lives in his building. He helps her with her bags and asks her to come to his place for dinner with friends. The friends are late, but they get to know each other before the others arrive. Hazard likes Persian rugs and has interesting books. Samantha admits to being opposed to the war. Nelson and his wife Betty Rae join them and they have conversations about various topics. Nelson and Betty Rae met when she was working for Sen. Sam Ervin of North Carolina and he needed her help. Sgt. Flanagan orders the soldiers out of bed early and tells them to prepare for inspection. Wildman, another soldier, takes abuse from Flanagan for his incompetence, but Willow tries to help him succeed. Over time, Wildman continues to mess up. From time to time, Willow, Hazard and Nelson socialize at a bar. On one occasion Willow disagrees with the other men who say Vietnam is different from other wars. Willow gets drunk and gets in a fight with others, and Hazard and Nelson have to take him out. Willow learns his beloved father died and he cries. He is given time off to grieve and attend the funeral. Hazard and Samantha go on several dates. One ends with them kissing at her door, and possibly preparing to do more than kiss. Samantha and Hazard tell each other that both are divorced, but Hazard has a son he has not seen in a long time. Willow is promoted to "buck sergeant" and goes through a hazing by the other sergeants. His objective, however, is to train at Officer Candidate School. Willow occasionally narrates, reading a letter. From time to time, the Old Guard participates in funerals. Samantha is part of the audience when the unit puts on a show for the public where the duties of various groups are described. For example, one group is dressed as soldiers would have during the American Revolution. A band plays in the style musicians might have at that time. As part of his group Wildman messes up several times. When the show is over, Wildman tells Willow a pretty girl keeps looking at him. Willow sees the girl, and it is his ex Rachel. Willow goes over to meet her and expresses interest in dating again. She has a date but he persuades her to break it. Willow introduces her to Hazard and later asks to borrow money from Hazard. Samantha says she got arrested for protesting but intends to continue to oppose the war. Willow arrives at the home of Rachel's parents. Her father Col. Feld is working on a secret project for the Pentagon and he and his wife have moved to the area. Rachel is just visiting, as she is living in Europe. Willow and Rachel go on their date and get in a disagreement when he wants to talk about the war and she doesn't. She reminds him they broke up because Willow got the impression he wasn't good enough for her father, who was apparently trying to get him into West Point. Rachel says he was gullible. She also said she never read his letters to her. Willow and Rachel end up at Hazard's place and is told there will be field exercises the next day. Willow and other soldiers go through training that will hopefully teach them what to do to survive in Vietnam. Hazard is missing but Nelson finds him, and they get in an argument. Hazard wants to teach soldiers what to do in order to survive. Nelson says Hazard is a platoon sergeant. Hazard's latest request for a transfer is denied. He won't get what he wants by acting crazy, but is told everyone who could approve a transfer will hear he is a fine soldier. Thomas yells at Nelson for embarrassing him and Nelson yells at Hazard, who is "arrested" as a prank. Willow completes officer training and returns to a celebration. He asks Rachel to marry him. There is a wedding and a reception. Willow and Wildman are among those who get their orders for Vietnam. Wildman, a newspaper says, serves honorably and receives the Congressional Medal of Honor. What appears to be actual video and audio from the war is shown several times. Nelson is told to come calm Hazard down. He is in a room breaking things. Willow's name is on a list of funerals. Willow was determined to earn a Combat Infantryman Badge. Hazard then visits Samantha. Willow's funeral takes place, with Hazard speaking. Some parts of the funeral are a repeat of scenes from the start of the movie, only now the audience knows Rachel is the grieving widow. "Taps" is played at the end.

When Keith goes out with Amanda, the girl of his dreams, Amanda's ex-boyfriend plans to get back at Keith. Meanwhile, Keith's best friend, tomboy Watts, realizes she has feelings for Keith. Young tomboy Watts discovers that her feelings for her best friend Keith run deeper than just friendship when he gets a date with the most popular girl in school. Unfortunately, the girl's old boyfriend, who is from the rich section of town, is unable to let go of her and plans to get back at Keith.

In spring 1978, Brad Whitewood, Jr. impresses his brother, Tommy, by hanging from the hood of a car to retrieve Tommy's stolen money from the driver. Then, he dusts himself off, and makes conversation with a pretty blonde girl named Terry, and her girlfriend, Jill, in the town square. He offers white pills to the girls. As Terry swallows one, Brad, Jr. asks when and where he can see her again. She promises to return to the square in two days. The next day, Brad, Jr. and his friend, Lucas, are home when a stranger appears and asks to see Brad's mother. When Brad, Jr. says she is not around, the stranger peels off three hundred-dollar bills and leaves them on the kitchen table. He addresses Brad, Jr. by his name, but mistakes Lucas for Tommy, then leaves. Later, Brad, Jr.'s mother pockets the money, but has no interest in seeing the stranger who is her ex-husband, Brad Whitewood, Sr. Meanwhile, Brad, Jr.'s grandma warns him to stay away from his father. At night, Brad, Jr. waits for Terry at the square, but she never appears. Later at home, Brad, Jr. and his mother's boyfriend, Ernie, have a fistfight over the sound volume on the television. When Ernie tosses Brad, Jr. in the dirt outside, Brad, Jr. calls his father to come get him. As they drive in Brad, Sr.'s car, the father denies he is a thief. At the Whitewood residence, Brad, Jr. is introduced to Uncle Dickie, Patch, Boyd, Tony Pine, who is an epileptic, and Aunt Mary Sue. Brad is left to make small talk with Mary Sue, while his father and the other men go to rob a safe. The next day, father and son go into town, and Brad, Jr. is impressed when he sees what makes his father a successful scammer. Later, Brad, Jr. sees Jill at school and asks her for Terry's address. He hitchhikes to Terry's farm. She tells him that her mother grounded her for two weeks when she tried to sneak out to meet him, and says she has heard rumors that his father is a criminal. He tells her not to believe the gossip. She gives him her telephone number, and he kisses her goodbye. Later, Whitewood gang member, Patch, suggests that he could teach Brad, Jr. a few things about crime, and they go off to brainstorm. Brad, Sr. buys his son a car, but discourages him from teaming up with Patch. When Brad, Jr. suggests that his father teach him how to be a successful criminal, Brad, Sr. refuses, and orders him to return to his mother. The next day, Brad, Sr. takes Brad, Jr. and Tommy for a ride and points out the area homes belonging to wealthy people. At a restaurant, he gives the boys a gun, and when Tommy is excited, he tells them they cannot have it until they prove themselves. Tommy is ready to put Brad, Sr.'s word to the test that night. Meanwhile, Lester, an old associate, interrupts them, and says he is looking for some action. However, Brad, Sr. accuses Lester of being a police informant and waves him away. Later, Brad, Jr. rounds up his friends to rob a farm. The owner discovers the gang on his property, and shoots Brad, Jr. in the face as the boys escape. Brad, Jr. calls his father, who refuses to help. He tells his son to ask his girlfriend for assistance. Terry cleans Brad, Jr.'s wound, and he spends the night with her. The next day, they sneak out, and spend the day on the lake with his friends. At night, Terry tells Brad, Jr. she has to return home or her mother will call the police. Brad, Jr. promises her that he will make enough money to buy a house that they can live in someday. One day, Brad, Jr. and Terry meet his father and his associates at a bar. When Brad, Jr. asks his father for work so that he can afford a house, the gang walks off. The father warns his son that in the future those kinds of conversations have to be held in private. He later agrees to show Brad, Jr. how he works to see if he likes the life. At a restaurant, Brad, Sr. and his gang see Lester talking with Detective Mosker. Outside in the parking lot, Brad, Sr. bullies Lester into joining them on a job to prove his loyalty. During the drive, Brad, Sr. gets Lester high on drugs and alcohol and interrogates him. Lester says that the FBI has been brought in to investigate the Whitewood gang's activities. Brad, Jr. watches as they stop near a lake, and Patch drowns Lester. One day, as Tommy watches Brad, Jr. work on his car, Brad, Sr. arrives with a shiny new sports car, and asks his sons for help on a job. Brad, Jr. refuses and his father drives off angry. Instead, Brad, Jr. recruits his friends to commit a robbery, but they get caught by the police, and thrown in jail. Brad, Sr. offers $12,000 to Brad, Jr.'s grandma for his bail, but she refuses it. Later, Brad, Sr. drives Lucas and Terry to jail to visit Brad, Jr. On the way, Terry becomes drunk on Brad, Sr.'s liquor. They stop at a motel where Brad, Sr. tells Terry she knows too much and has to stop seeing his son. When she refuses, he rapes her. Later, Terry tells Brad, Jr. in jail about her ordeal. He retaliates by giving the FBI information on his father. When Lucas is subpoenaed by a Grand Jury, Brad, Sr. lures him out on a job, and kills him. He also kills Tommy and another friend the same way. Brad, Jr. is released from jail after giving up more information. He plans to leave town with Terry and relocate out west near her relatives. Next, Brad, Sr. plots to kill Terry. Grandma gives $400 to help Brad, Jr. and Terry's escape. As the couple gets ready to drive off, shots ring out in the night. Terry is killed. Brad, Jr. stumbles out of the car and washes off the blood from his wounds. Later, he visits his father and pretends nothing has happened. In the bathroom, he retrieves a gun hidden on a shelf. Back in the kitchen, he confronts his father about Tommy and Terry. Brad, Sr. tries to calm him by saying he knows how the police can mess up a person's thinking. Brad, Jr. asks him if the gun he holds killed everyone, and fires a few stray shots. As Brad, Sr. tells his son that he loves him, Brad, Jr. presses the gun against his father's face, but says killing him would be too easy. He wants his father to suffer every day and die slowly. Soon, Brad, Jr. testifies against his father at a Grand Jury hearing.
