A computer hacker learns of the plot of the backwards-kneed aliens to take over the Earth using their shape-shifting talents. After Zane Ziminski is found dead five people received envelopes with details of an alien invasion. This group of five includes 3 scientists, Zane's brother Jack, and a reporter. Quickly, the group is down to three and then Jack and Bridget, the reporter. With a small piece of alien technology, they must escape from the aliens, who take human form, and try to convince others of the existence of aliens. —Tony Fontana <tony.fontana@spacebbs.com> In Montreal, the unruly computer expert Jack Addison receives an envelope with the information that his stepbrother Zane Ziminski had died of a heart attack in Alaska. Jack goes to bar after-hours where he meets Sandra Wolf and they have one night stand. When he opens the envelope, he finds photos and information about an alien invasion and a letter scheduling an encounter at a refrigerating chamber in an isolated place. Jack believes Zack is delusional but he goes to the spot where he meets the investigative reporter Bridget Riordan and the scientists Prof. Nelson Zarcoff, Trevor Aguilar and Tom Billings. Jack finds an alien device in a hidden bag and Trevor feels the cold and reveals as an alien. He activates a sphere that sucks everything around and Tom and he are sucked by the artifact. However Jack and Bridget escape together, and Zarcoff also succeeds to escape, but is killed in his hotel room by an alien weapon. Meanwhile Jack goes home to see Sandra and finds that his apartment was also sucked. Further Sandra is an alien and together with her partner Wotan, they hunt Jack and Bridget down. A housewife tries to finance her cab-driving husband's education. Henrietta Robins works out of her home and her husband Pete drives a cab to try to support her. When Pete gets a tip from one of his fellow drivers that a deal will be made by the Americans and the Soviets over pork bellies, he decides to invest in the market, but needs $3000 to invest. Henrietta goes to extreme lengths to get the money by dealing with first a loan shark, then a madam, then the mob, and finally cattle rustlers. All this in the name of love. —Brian Washington <Sargebri@att.net> Young married Brooklynites Pete and Henry Robbins are madly in love but have financial problems. Pete works as a cab driver, while Henry, the household money manager, does whatever odd part-time jobs she can, such as telephone sales. Pete learns through his dispatcher about a sure-fired investment in the commodity's market, specifically in pork belly futures, that will pay out huge dividends within a week. They need a minimum $3,000 to be able to invest, which is $2,700.38 more than they have. After trying through legal means, Henry, who would do anything for her husband, decides to borrow the money from a loan shark. Henry doesn't see the 20% weekly interest rate as a problem because the investment should pay off far more than that. Henry lies to Pete about the source of the money. Problems ensue for Henry when the investment doesn't pay off as quickly as Pete thought. So when the loan shark doesn't get his money back on time, he is after Henry unless he can "sell" Henry's contract. Even if the loan shark can sell the contract, will Henry be able to pay off the buyer any easier? And what will Pete do if he finds out either the source of the money and/or that Henry lied to him? —Huggo

At the beginning of the Civil War, seven friends embark on a cross-country journey in order to join the Confederate army. At the onset of the Civil War, seven young Texans decide to join General Hood's Texas regiment in Richmond. During their long horseback voyage from Texas to Virginia, the seven young men will witness first-hand the Southern prejudice and snobbery. They also will witness the lynching of runaway black slaves. Filled with dreams of war glory, they will nevertheless push ahead toward their destination. Their trek eastward is eventful and fraught with dangers, as the Texans will occasionally get into trouble with the townsfolk from various towns. Although they do eventually join the Confederate forces, it will happen in Shiloh, Tennessee not in Richmond, Virginia as planned. After becoming soldiers, they realize that war is not what they expected or dreamed about. The army and the war are not at all compatible with the core human values of ordinary Texans. The battle of Shiloh is the epitaph of this story. —nufs68
