LAPD Detectives Dwight "Bucky" Bleichert (Josh Hartnett) and Lee Blanchard (Aaron Eckhart) are paired as partners after engaging in a boxing match to raise funds for the department & to generate publicity for a city vote on a proposal to increase policemen salaries by 8%. After gaining the upper hand and flooring Lee, Bucky ends up losing the fight and 2 of his front teeth. Lee is well known detective in the department and introduces Bucky to Deputy District Attorney Ellis Loew (Patrick Fischler) & Chief Thad Green (Troy Evans). Lee introduces Bucky to his girlfriend Kay Lake (Scarlett Johansson), and the trio becomes inseparable. The duo arrest many known mob bosses and become famous. Lee notices the growing closeness between Kay and Bucky. Bucky is shocked when Kay tells him she isn't sleeping with Lee, and later tries to seduce him, but he refuses. He also discovers that Kay has been branded with the initials "BD", for Bobby DeWitt, the gangster whose arrest and conviction for a big bank robbery made Lee's career (Kay testified against Bobby). Bobby is scheduled to be released from Prison in late Jan 1947. Soon after, on January 15, 1947, Elizabeth Short's (Mia Kirshner) dismembered body (all her internal and reproductive organs have been removed and her mouth was carved in the manner of a smile) is found and she is dubbed "The Black Dahlia" by the press. Both detectives become obsessed with solving the case. On that day, the duo were apprehending Baxter Smith, the associate of a known sexual predator Nash in a nearby building and were involved in a shootout. Lee saved Bucky's life, and Baxter ends up dead. Nash didn't kill Elizabeth as his victims were all young black girls. Cleo A. Short (Kevin Dunn), Elizabeth Short's Father works at a local diner and has an alibi for the day and time on which Elizabeth was killed. Cleo says Elizabeth was fascinated by the military types and was a bit of a tramp. Bucky learns that Elizabeth was an aspiring actress who appeared in a pornographic film and hung out with lesbians. He goes to a lesbian nightclub and meets Madeleine Linscott (Hilary Swank), who looks very much like Elizabeth. Madeleine, who comes from a prominent family, tells Bucky that she was 'very close' with Elizabeth (They had sex once) but asks him to keep her name out of the papers in exchange for sexual favors. She introduces him to her wealthy parents (Emmett (John Kavanagh) and Ramona (Fiona Shaw), sister Martha (Rachel Miner)) almost immediately, to confirm her alibi. Ramona doesn't like Emmett and says he married her for her father's money. She calls Bucky one of Madeleine's male whores and says she wont be insulted like this, in front of a common policeman. While having sex, Madeleine tells Bucky that her dad is corrupt (using old film-sets to build firetrap housings) and that's how he made his money in LA.. It is suggested that Madeleine is very concerned about her image and that she knew Elizabeth looked like her and that she acted in Porno films. That could be a motive to kill her. Lee's obsession leads him to become erratic and abusive toward Kay. After Lee and Bucky have a nasty argument (Lee locates the sexual predator Nash and ends up killing him) about a previous case, Bucky goes to Lee and Kay's to apologize, only to learn from Kay that Lee was responding to a tip about Bobby DeWitt (Richard Brake). Bucky finds DeWitt in the atrium of a building before he is gunned down by Lee, then sees a man garrote Lee before a second figure steps out and slits Lee's throat. Lee and the man holding the garrote fall over the railing to their deaths several floors below. The grief of losing Lee propels Bucky and Kay into having sex. The next morning, Bucky finds money hidden in Lee and Kay's bathroom. Kay reveals that she had been DeWitt's girlfriend and that he abused her. Lee rescued Kay, stole DeWitt's money, and put DeWitt behind bars. When Dewitt was about to be released, his snitch, who introduced Kay to Lee, demanded $10,000. The snitch was Baxter Smith. Lee had eliminated him, in the garb of the Nash shootout. Bucky now realizes Lee was there that night to kill DeWitt and leaves, furious, to return to Madeleine, where he notices photo of Georgie, Emmett's business associate, and a painting of a leering clown. Kay follows him and she is appalled to see Madeleine's striking resemblance to the Dahlia. Bucky starts putting the pieces together and remembers props in another movie matched the set in Elizabeth's pornographic film. The end credits thanked Emmett Linscott, Madeleine's father, and Bucky digs deeper into a story Madeleine told about him using old film sets to build cheap firetrap housing. In an empty house below the Hollywoodland sign built by Emmett, Bucky recognizes the set that was used in Elizabeth's film. He finds evidence in a barn on the property that Elizabeth was killed and butchered there, as well as a drawing of a man with a Glasgow smile. The drawing matches the painting in Madeleine's home and the gruesome smile carved into Elizabeth's face. Bucky confronts Madeleine and her father in their home and Madeleine's mother, Ramona, reveals that she killed Elizabeth. She confesses that Madeleine was not fathered by Emmett but rather by his best friend, Georgie (William Finley). She says Georgie became infatuated while watching Elizabeth film the pornography. Ramona was disturbed by the idea of George having sex with someone who looked so much like his own daughter, and lured Elizabeth to the house and killed her. Before Bucky can decide what to do, Ramona shoots herself. A few days later, remembering something Lee said during the investigation, Bucky visits Madeleine's sister Martha (Rachel Miner) with some questions. He learns that Lee knew about Madeleine and Elizabeth, and blackmailed Madeleine's father to keep it secret. Bucky finds Madeleine at a seedy motel, and she admits to being the one who slit Lee's throat. Although she insists that Bucky wants to have sex with her rather than kill her, he tells her she is wrong and shoots her dead. Bucky goes to Kay's house and she invites him in and closes the door.

At mid-afternoon on Christmas Eve in Wichita, Kansas, mob lawyer Charlie Arglist (John Cusack) and crooked businessman and pornographer Vic Cavanaugh (Billy Bob Thornton) steal over $2 million from their mob boss Bill Guerrard (Randy Quaid). While it appears, there will be an easy getaway for the pair, they learn the roads out of town are too icy to drive on. Vic takes the cash for safe-keeping, and they split up and try their best to evade being captured by Guerrard and his men, who have discovered their scheme. Charlie visits Sweet Cage, a local strip-club, owned by Renata Crest (Connie Nielsen), a woman whom Charlie has long lusted for. She is upset because a new law will prevent strip clubs from operating after the first of the year. In response to Charlie's persistent efforts, she tasks him with bring her an existing compromising picture, taken of a local crusading politician, so that she can use it to blackmail him to keep her club in business. She hints that she might respond favorably to Charlie's sexual desire if he helps her with this. Before he leaves the club, Charlie sees someone looking for him. He hides in the bathroom, where "As Wichita Falls, So Falls Wichita Falls" is written on the walls. He manages to evade the hulking man because Sidney the bartender lies and tells him that Charlie already left. Once the man leaves, a panicked Charlie calls Vic to warn him, but Vic dismisses his concerns. Charlie drives to another strip club owned by Guerrard and removes the photo from the backroom safe. Before he gets there, his car skids on ice and he is stopped by Officer Tyler, who asks Charlie to remember him to his boss, Guerrard. Charlie promises to do so, but then can't remember the man's name a minute later. At the second club, he is unexpectedly nice to a stripper, and the bartender there takes note of that. While Charlie is in the back stealing the photograph, the menacing man shows up again, once again demanding to know if Charlie has been there. Once again, the bartender lies for Charlie and he's again able to evade capture. Once he leaves, a now very panicked Charlie rushes out with his phone open to call Vic again but slips on the ice and breaks his phone. Charlie drives to a restaurant to meet with Vic in person instead, and Vic assures him things will be okay. While they're talking, Vic gets a phone call from someone and tells Charlie it's his overweight wife asking when he'll be home. Vic leaves, but before Charlie can go, the bar manager asks Charlie to take care of Pete (Oliver Platt), Charlie's old and now very drunk friend. Pete is married to Charlie's beautiful ex-wife Sarabeth. Charlie takes Pete to the home of Pete's current and Charlie's ex-in-laws where his children and Sarabeth are having dinner with her parents. It's clear that Pete doesn't want to go in and is unhappy with his new marriage to Charlie's ex-wife. While still outside the house, he drunkenly confesses to Charlie that he and Sarabeth were constantly "f**king everywhere" while she was still married to Charlie. Pete asks Charlie if that makes him angry, and Charlies replies, "Actually, it makes me curious. Makes me wonder who she's f**king now." Once inside, Pete acts out, cursing and saying terrible things about both his wife and his in-laws. Charlie attempts to talk to his children but is met with open hostility from his older son for not being more involved in their lives. Finally, Sarabeth's mother tells him to leave, and take Pete with him. So, Pete and Charlie go back to the restaurant they'd left earlier, and ask the bartender for one more drink. She agrees to give them each one for free if they will drink it and then leave. Charlie calls the Sweet Cage looking for Renata while Pete makes drunken sexual comments to the bartender, despite the fact that her boyfriend is waiting there for her close. The boyfriend eventually throws him out of the restaurant and then kicks him in the scrotum. Pete vomits in Charlie's car, Officer Tyler shows up again, and Charlie drives Pete home (which was previously Charlie's house), where Pete passes out. Charlie "borrows" Sarabeth's new Mercedes (which was a gift from Pete) from the garage since Pete threw up all over Charlie's car. Charlie goes back to Sweet Cage to find Sidney the bartender beating up a guitar player. Renata has returned, so he gives her the photo. Based on Charlie's kindness to the stripper at the other club and his refusal to demand anything in return for the valuable photo, Renata deduces that Charlie is hiding something. He hints at the existence of money, and she suggests they go off together. Before they can do that, however, she tells him that Vic had called her earlier to say Charlie had been right about mob enforcer Roy Gelles (Mike Starr) looking for the two of them, and that Charlie needs to go meet with Vic at The Velvet Touch while she closes her bar. Charlie goes to The Velvet Touch and finds a severed human thumb in the back room. He drives to a bridge to be sick, and is once again spotted by Officer Tyler, whose name he still can't remember. He heads to Vic's house and sees a gun go off through the window. He breaks into the other car in Vic's driveway and finds ID belonging to Roy, so he assumes that Roy just killed Vic. He calls Renata to tell her so, and she encourages him to take Roy out and get the money from him so they can run off together. She encourages him to make this his "defining moment" to be "something more." Charlie goes into Vic's house, finds Vic's wife newly dead and is then startled by Vic himself. Vic tells him that Roy shot his wife, but that he managed to lock Roy up in a trunk. After an argument about which car would hold the two bodies best, the two of them stuff the trunk with Roy inside it into the back seat of Sarabeth's Mercedes, and the corpse of Vic's wives into the trunk, then head for a local lake. On the way, Roy continues talking to the two of them, telling Charlie Vic killed his own wife, and that he's going to kill Charlie too. Vic berates Charlie for "being nice" on Christmas Eve, saying it's a dead giveaway that he's planning to leave town, then gets annoyed with Roy's talking and shoots into the trunk, which becomes quiet. Charlie and Vic get the trunk down onto a dock at the lake, but it's shot open from the inside and Roy gets out, shooting Vic in the process. Vic shoots Roy dead, but then falls into the frozen lake. Vic begs for help, but Charlie realized that Roy was right, and Vic was planning to kill him once they got the bodies into the lake, and then take the money for himself. He dumps Vic's wife's body on Vic, telling him, "I don't want you to die alone," and leaves Vic to die, still pleading to be saved. But then Charlie discovers the carry-on bag in the car does not have the money in it, and that he doesn't know where the money actually is (and with Vic dead, has no way of figuring that out), so he gets drunk. He calls Renata and tells her what has happened, but she asks him to come to her despite not having the money. When Charlie hangs up the phone, it is revealed that someone is pointing a gun at her. First Charlie heads back to his old house and delivers some very cheap Christmas gifts to his children, leaving them under the tree. Pete is still passed out there and begs Charlie to take Pete with him when he leaves town. Returning to Sweet Cage, Charlie discovers Bill Guerrard's car in the parking lot. He goes inside just a moment when Guerrard is in the bathroom, to discover that Renata is tied to a chair. She has just enough time to tell him where a shotgun is hidden before Guerrard emerges from the bathroom, not seeing that Charlie has arrived. Charlie manages to fetch the double-barreled shotgun from behind the bar, and Guerrard discusses the situation with Renata, surmising it was really her who designed the plan, as Vic was too dumb and Charlie too cowardly to pull it off, without her encouragement. Charlie returns and points the gun at Guerrard, but Guerrard just taunts him. At Renata's urging, Charlie fires the gun, but it is loaded with bird-shot and only superficially wounds him. As Charlie starts to cut Renata loose, Charlie is stabbed in the foot by a recovered Guerrard. Officer Tyler, making his rounds, hears the gunshot and arrives but Guerrard shoots him dead. Renata frees herself and stabs Guerrard in the chest. A struggle ensues, and Charlie manages to kill Guerrard with a second shot to the back of the head at point blank range. Charlie mends his wound, while Renata cleans Guerrard's blood off of herself, and suddenly sees Vic's carry-on bag containing the money in her open closet. Flashing back, he realizes Renata is the one Vic was having dinner with earlier, and that he and Renata were planning to go off together after Vic had killed him. Renata emerges from the bathroom acting as if she is going to seduce Charlie. As they embrace, Charlie shoots Renata with Guerrad's gun just before she can kill him with a concealed razor she brought out of the bathroom. On Christmas morning, a sad Charlie drives out of town with the money. He finds Sidney with his kids on the side of the road in a camper-motor home, on their way to Six Flags. They are stalled because the camper has run out of gas. Charlie lets Sidney siphon some gas from his tank and Sidney tells him that Charlie's the nicest guy he knows. Charlie says he's "awfully sorry to hear that." They wish each other well, but as Sidney's motor won't immediately start. Before he drives off, Charlie pulls a red Sharpie from his pocket and begins to write "As Wichita Falls, So Falls Wichita Falls" on the back of the camper. Based on the handwriting and the ink color, it's implied that he was the one writing this phrase all over town the entire time. Not seeing Charlie back there, Sidney accidentally backs into him, knocking him to the ground. Charlie picks himself up and gets back in the Mercedes, where Pete is revealed to have been lying in the back seat the entire time. He has at last awoken from his stupor and wants to know where he is. Charlie tells him he's in Heaven. They wish each other "Merry Christmas" and drive off to a new and different future.

After serving three years in prison covering for her gangster boyfriend, Kevin, Gloria returns to New York City for the money she was promised. Inside Kevin's base of operations, she finds 7-year-old Nicky, whose family has been killed. Wayne 'Mad Dog' Dobie (Robert De Niro) is a shy Chicago Police Department crime scene photographer who has spent years on the job without ever drawing his gun; his colleagues jokingly call him "Mad Dog". Detective Pavletz (Anthony Cannata) is Wayne's colleague. Wayne and his partner Mike was called upon at 2 am to cover a car shooting. Wayne finds one dead body in the car and one in the trunk, and determines the shooter's hand to be covered in blood, due to blow backs. Wayne saves the life of mob boss Frank Milo (Bill Murray) during a hold-up in a convenience store (Wayne had gone there to get a Twinkie for Pavletz. it turns out the shooter from the car shooting was jacking the store and Mile happened to be in it and was taken hostage (while the owner of the store was shot), when Wayne walks in). Wayne calms the shooter down and allows him the escape through the back door, saving Milo's life. Wayne leads a lonely life and yearns for some meaningful relationship. Milo sends his guy Harold (Mike Starr) to invite Wayne to his party. Milo tells Wayne that his therapist made him realize that what Wayne did was very brave and compassionate. Milo does his own stand-up comedy act in his club and Wayne is very honest to him and says that maybe he can do a few jokes at his own expense. Milo likes his honesty and says that he always like people when they are upfront and straight with him. he doesn't like sneaky liars. Milo spends the whole night with Wayne, exchanging jokes and Milo learns that Wayne wishes that he was brave, and a real artist. He offers Wayne a gift in return: for one week, he will have the "personal services" of Glory (Uma Thurman), a young woman who works as a bartender at Milo's club. Wayne goes to work and finds that the shooter from the night before is found dead in a dumpster. Wayne sees Milo's hand in it. He comes back home and wants Glory to leave. But Glory tells him that her brother owes Milo and unless he pays up, she is the trade. So, if Wayne sends her back, Milo will add another few months to her trade with him. Wayne is next door neighbor to Lee (Kathy Baker), who is in an abusive relationship with Andrew (Tom Towles), but Wayne is too timid to help her. Mike stands up to Andrew and makes him walk away from Lee without a fight. Wayne learns that Glory is trying to pay off a personal debt (Glory's brother borrowed money from Milo and couldn't pay back. So, Milo took over the business and used it for his illegal ops, and her brother tried to commit suicide. That's when Glory went in, asked Milo to spare his life and offered to serve Milo in any way he wanted) and wants nothing to do with Milo after the debt is paid off. After an awkward start, where Wayne thinks Glory does sex jobs for Milo, but Glory says that she was sexually assaulted one time while doing a job for Milo, but otherwise she only delivers things and what happens is up to her. Wayne tries to have sex with Glory, but fails, as he hasn't had sex in many years. They get talking instead. Glory offers to pose nude for Wayne as his muse, and that's how Wayne is able to have sex with her. Wayne realizes that he is in love with Glory, but Milo comes by and reminds Frank that he has 3 days left with her. Milo also warns Glory not to take advantage of Milo's generosity. Wayne wants her to move into his apartment, but Milo has no intention of letting Glory go. Milo sends Harold to enforce the threat. Wayne's partner, Mike (David Caruso), saves Wayne from Harold and fights him off. Milo asks Wayne to serve him instead of Glory for 1 yr, and pick up his phone whenever he calls, but Wayne cannot give up his integrity either. Milo says that Wayne has to pay $40,000 (he reduces the price from $75,000 since Wayne saved his life) to give Glory her freedom. Wayne has 3 days to give the money or give up Glory. Wayne does not reveal the ask to Glory or to Mike and says that Milo backed off. Wayne empties his bank account and borrows money from his friends (telling them about an investment scheme). When Mike finds out he refuses to help out Wayne as he doesn't think buying Glory from Milo is the right approach. Glory catches Wayne counting cash in the bathroom and figures out the deal. She asks Wayne to save his money and goes back to her apartment as Milo will never let her go. Wayne does his best to get the money but falls short by $12,500. Milo had arrived with his troops to enforce the deal, but Mike shows up with a bunch of cops for the showdown. Knowing that Mike can't protect him, he courageously stands up to Milo himself (He asks Milo to fight him for Glory) and ends up brawling with Milo in the street. Glory intervenes suspecting that Milo might kill Wayne. Seeing that the two are in love with each other, Milo concedes and makes peace with Wayne and lets Glory go with no strings attached.

A couple swap city life for the country, but their picturesque new hometown turns out to be just a little bit different to what they were expecting. When Andy and Elizabeth buy a farm in Vermont, they can't imagine the trouble that awaits them. Andy has quit his job as a sports journalist and is planning to use the peace and quiet of the country to write the Great American Novel. From the moment the movers' truck gets lost with their furniture, though, there's little peace and less quiet. From a manical mailman to a dead body buried in the garden, Andy is distracted by the town and its wacky inhabitants. His effort at a novel is mediocre, at best, and he's threatened by Elizabeth's foray into writing when she attempts a children's book. Gussie is a talented photographer who wants to break free of her small Maryland seaside town and see the world. Henry wants to stay and run the the local newspaper. The two high school sweethearts go their separate ways until Gussie returns to visit her parents. Henry has married Ruth and had a son while Gussie is single. He has kept track of her career and still carries a torch for her. He invites her for dinner at his house one night and they begin an affair after Henry walks her home. Thus begins a bittersweet affair that proves you can't change the past or someone you love.

In New York City, young martial artist Bruce "Leroy" Green (Taimak) trains with his teacher, who shoots arrows at him. When Leroy catches a blue arrow in midair, the teacher says that the student has successfully completed his training and is now ready to go out into the world. Leroy disagrees because he has not yet achieved "the Glow"; which is when a warrior's body glows because he has become the best fighter in the world. The teacher gives Leroy a gold medallion and tells him to seek out Master Sum Dum Goy, who will help him achieve "the Glow." Sum Dum Goy will provide training in exchange for the medallion. Later, Leroy watches a film by his idol, Bruce Lee, but a rival marital artist, Sho'nuff (Julius J. Carry III), known as the "Shogun of Harlem", comes to the theater looking for a fight. Sho'nuff believes Leroy is his only competitor for supremacy and wants to fight one-on-one, but Leroy does not believe in fighting unless it is necessary. When Leroy ignores Sho'nuff's challenge, audience members attack Sho'nuff, but he beats them as Leroy sneaks out the emergency exit. Sho'nuff vows to destroy Leroy. Meanwhile, Eddie Arkadian (Chris Murney), a successful video game producer, wants to get into the music business by managing singer Angela Viracco (Faith Prince), and tries to get her video on the popular music show, "7th Heaven." However, the show's host and VJ, Laura Charles (Vanity), is picky about the music she plays. Arkadian sends henchmen to kidnap Laura, so he can force her to watch Angela's video. As Laura leaves the studio and steps into her limousine, Leroy walks by. Just then, Laura realizes her driver is an impostor and attempts to escape. As Arkadian's men overpower Laura, Leroy saves her. After the fight, Leroy flags down a taxicab for Laura, then leaves before she can get his name. Laura finds Leroy's gold medallion on the ground and takes it with her. Arkadian's men return, claiming that Laura's bodyguards attacked them. Later, Leroy retreats to the scene, looking for his medallion. The next day, Leroy teaches a marital arts class, where he tells his students not to fight unless necessary. Just then, Sho'nuff disrupts the class with his gang, demanding Leroy to kiss his feet and declare him "the Master." When Leroy refuses, Sho'nuff's men threaten to harm Leroy's best friend, Johnny Yu (Glen Eaton). As Leroy kneels, Sho'nuff kicks him, proclaiming they will battle one day soon. The next day, Leroy has breakfast with his family, including his younger brother, Richie (Leo O'Brien), who has a crush on Laura Charles. Richie plans on winning the "7th Heaven" dance contest because the prize is a date with the hostess. When a commercial for the show appears on the television, Leroy recognizes Laura. He assumes she has his medallion, and begs Richie to take him to the television studio. Richie believes Leroy is also infatuated with Laura, and teases his brother about his sexual inexperience. However, Richie reluctantly agrees to escort Leroy, but asks him to conceal the fact that they are brothers. Upon arriving at the studio, Richie leaves Leroy alone at the back entrance while he seeks out a secret entryway. There, Leroy witnesses one of Arkadian's henchmen, "Rock," (Mike Starr) forcing Laura into a van. While driving away, Rock accidentally drops a folder labeled "Eddie Arkadian Productions." Later, at Arkadian's studio, Laura is forced to watch Angela's video, and ordered to promote the singer on her show. When Laura refuses, Arkadian's men attack, but Leroy comes to the rescue. Arkadian vows revenge against Leroy, who then brings Laura back to her apartment, introduces himself, and asks for his medallion. Laura returns the item and attempts to flirt with Leroy, but he leaves. The next day, Leroy heads to Chinatown to track down Master Sum Dum Goy, which turns out to be a fortune cookie factory. Outside, he runs into brothers Hu, Lu, and Du Yi, who refuse Leroy entry. Meanwhile in Harlem, Sho'nuff and his men arrive at Leroy's family-owned restaurant, "Daddy Green's Pizza." When Leroy's parents refuse to divulge their son's location, Sho'nuff destroys the restaurant. Moments later, Leroy returns and Richie calls him a coward for not fighting Sho'nuff, prompting Leroy to train harder. One day, Laura shows up at Leroy's studio, asking him to be her bodyguard. Leroy declines, claiming that he must continue training to become "the Master." Back at Arkadian's studio, fighters train to get revenge against Leroy. Angela laments that they will never convince Laura to play her music, and when Arkadian promises to "get rid of" Leroy, she quits. The next day, Arkadian offers Sho'nuff money to fight Leroy, but Sho'nuff agrees to fight for free as long as Arkadian sets a trap. Meanwhile, Leroy returns to Laura's apartment and apologizes. On the way to her studio, Leroy asks her how to seduce a woman, and she offers herself as a teacher. At the studio, Laura plays Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury on the stage's video screen, thrilling Leroy. Moments later, Richie sneaks into the studio, finds Laura and Leroy kissing, and storms away. When Leroy sees a scene in which Bruce Lee disguises himself to get into the villain's lair, he abruptly leaves and Richie returns inside. There, Arkadian kidnaps both Laura and Richie. Back at the Sum Dum Goy factory, Leroy pretends to be a pizza delivery man, gets inside, and demands to see its owner, but the brothers confess to making up the person, "Sum Dum Goy," to sell cookies. When Leroy later confronts his teacher about the lie, he learns that the mastery he is looking for already resides within himself. Meanwhile, Angela tells Johnny about Arkadian's plan to kill Leroy, and Johnny later tells his friend. Leroy gathers his weapons and prepares to fight. When Johnny insists on coming with him, Leroy locks him in a closet, but one of the younger students lets him out. When Leroy walks into his studio, Arkadian's fighters attack, but Johnny and Leroy's other students arrive to join in the fight and even the odds. During the battle, Arkadian and Rock take Laura to another location, and Leroy follows. Richie breaks free of his confinement and follows. In an abandoned building, Sho'nuff finally battles Leroy and gets the upper hand, dunking Leroy's head into a vat of water and demanding that Leroy proclaim him "the Master." While underwater, Leroy realizes his own mastery, and his body glows. Leroy breaks free and defeats Sho'nuff. Unhappy with the outcome, Arkadian shoots Leroy, but Leroy catches the bullet with his teeth. Leroy ties up Arkadian and leaves him to be arrested by the police. Later that evening, Laura tapes her television show, and Leroy arrives with flowers. As they kiss, Richie proudly announces that Leroy is both his brother and "the Master."
