Jitendra Gupta lives a poor lifestyle in Calcutta, India, along with his elder and widowed sister, and a niece named Sushma. He works in the editorial department of a leading newspaper. He unauthorizedly exposes unscrupulous persons that are related to the newspaper's board of directors, leading to him being reprimanded by the Managing Director, Amita Sinha, and being forced to resign. Amita does have a change of heart, when she finds out that he had printed the truth, not only reinstates him but promotes him as the Chief Editor, and falls in love with him. Amita lives a wealthy lifestyle with her sister, Sunita, and is all set to tell her the good news that she finds out that Sunita has fallen in love with him also. Amita decides to give up on Jitendra in her sisters' interest. Shortly thereafter she receives a marriage proposal from wealthy Vikram Varma, the brother of a Director of the newspaper, for Sunita's hand. Will Amita seek this opportunity to wed Sunita with Vikram - and have Jitendra for herself?

A diamond thief hides his loot on an innocent child, but the child turns out to be an adult posing as a youngster to purchase a half-priced train ticket. Now, the thief will have to outwit the eccentric in a series of wacky misadventures. It is the story of a kind-hearted playful young man (Vijay). Unable to withstand his pranks his father drives him out of his home. He goes about his life doing odd jobs but never lasts longer than few days in one place. He meets a girl with dreamy eyes (Rajini) but pretends to a half-witted boy (Munna) to win her heart. Meanwhile some cops are chasing a diamond thief (Raja Babu) who hides the diamond in Munna's hip pocket. Vijay and Asha are about to get married when their lives are turned upside down by a woman named Lily, who claims she is Vijay's wife. Unable to convince Asha, Vijay is taken by Lily and Raja to a mental asylum - where he may end up spending the rest of his life. An orphan refuses to lie to further his and others' careers. Vijaykumar lives a poor lifestyle along with his honest store-owner widower father, Mohanlal, in a small town. The latter sells his merchandise at a reasonable price much to the chagrin of his competitor, Lalchand, who plants drugs in his store and has him arrested. Unable to bear the shock and humiliation, he passes away, leaving Vijaykumar in the care of his doctor. The latter grows up, becomes a graduate in Science, and re-locates to Bombay to be employed and live with wealthy Champalal and his daughter, Geeta. Pratap (Sunil Dutt) is accused of murdering the wealthy Seth Maganbhai Mehta. As a fugitive on the run, he meets Anokhi (Vyjayantimala) and her assorted group who make their living by any means, begging, stealing, or deceit. At first, Pratap is derisive of Anokhi and her friends. He soon realizes the camaraderie they share and their inherent goodness. He slowly wins them over and changes their erring ways. Anokhi and her friends then help Pratap find the real murderer.

Devdas`s childhood sweetheart is married off as his father opposes the alliance. Heartbroken, Devdas starts drinking, spending his days in the arms of Chandramukhi, a prostitute.

Young and handsome Shammi and beautiful Kishori are in love, and despite of their circumstances, marry and live in wedded bliss for a short period of time, and then start having differences. Even the birth of a baby boy does not bridge their differences, and eventually Kishori leaves to go to live with her dad, Baba. Shammi and his mom keep the baby with them. Kishori misses the baby, and eventually drives herself to serious illness, which can only be cured when she has the baby with her all the time.
