Major General Amarjeet Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) is a dedicated officer for the Indian army. His son Lieutenant Commander Vikramjeet Singh (Bobby Deol) follows in his footsteps and joins the navy. In 1971 during the Indo-Pak war and the formation of Bangladesh, Vikramjeet has a ship in his command and was carrying a regiment of soldiers of the Indian Army, commandeered by his dad, Major General Amarjeet. Amarjeet had been ordered to enter East Pakistan to stop the slaughter of innocent civilians at the hands of the Pakistani military forces. It was Shiekh Mujibur Rehman, who had requested the Indian Government led by Indira Gandhi to intervene and help save lives. The ship comes under attack by a submarine of the Pakistani Navy and is damaged beyond salvage by torpedoes. Vikram decides to hunt for the submarine, so that it cannot target the remaining ships in their convoy. Eventually, Vikram is successful in destroying the enemy submarine with depth charges, but his ship sinks along with Vikramjeet, but not before he courageously rescues about a hundred of trapped army soldiers, who were stuck in a passage as the exits were jammed shut. Due to Vikram's sacrifice, the Indian army led by Amarjeet reaches East Pakistan and starts pushing the Pakistani army back. Due to the fast attack from Indian Army on all fronts, the Pakistani army surrenders. Amarjeet returns home where Vikram is survived by his wife and a young son. Years later, Vikramjeet's son Kunaljeet (Bobby Deol) joins the army as a Captain, but he lacks the values his dad and grandfather had in them about serving the country selflessly. He just wants to be employed with the army for a couple of years, then re-locate to the U.S., run a business, and make lots of money. In order to accomplish this, he always makes up excuses of not going to the front. Kunal also cheats to win races or other competitions with his colleagues and has no qualms about it. Dr Sakshi (Sandali Sinha) has feelings for Kunal & tries to be close to him, but he simply ignores her. Sakshi knows that Kunal cheats and is not serious about his army career but keeps quiet due to her love for him. Kunal and his unit are posted in Rajasthan. Kunal is a prankster at heart, but always gets away due to his charm and due to the forgiving nature of his friends who consider his antics as harmless fun. Amarjeet is now retired from the army, but the Government uses his services as a special security advisor in Kashmir to manage the escalating tensions on the ground. Kunal falls in love with Shweta Bhansali (Divya Khosla) and decides to stay in the army in order to be close to her. while Kunal has strong feelings for Shweta, but she does not reciprocate them for Kunal. Shweta reveals that she is the virgin widow of Major Rajeev Singh, who departed for the front on their wedding night, never to return. Rajeev was deployed to the Kargil sector and selflessly sacrificed himself to save his troops from a Pakistani assault & was presumed dead. Kunal still wants to marry Shweta & even her family advises her to do so as Kunal is from a good family. Shweta reluctantly accepts, just as Kunal leaves for Kargil. In Kargil, Kunal is ordered to fight with his company to regain occupation of an important hill. The company attacks but leads to heavy losses. Kunal sees a lot of his friends being gunned down by enemy fire as he remains hidden. He is the last man standing & carries the flag to the summit. He is awarded the Sena medal, but Kunal cannot live down the shame that he acted like a coward & several of his dead comrades were more deserving of the medal. He tells the truth to Amarjeet who is deeply disappointed at this selfish behavior of Kunal. Meanwhile, Major Rajeev Singh (Akshay Kumar), who is assumed to be dead but actually is a prisoner of war. He was captured by Pakistani Col Ashfaque Khan (Danny Denzongpa), who tortures Rajeev endlessly to get crucial information on the Kargil war. Rajeev returns back alive after he challenges Ashfaque to hand-to-hand combat & beats him & then escapes from captivity with his fellow prisoners, with the help from a Pakistani army sympathizer. Upon return, Rajeev takes Shweta home & finds out about Kunal's feelings for Shweta, through a letter that he had written to her in the past. By chance, Kunal is assigned to protect the Amarnath shrine route, under Major Rajeev Singh. In order to achieve a medal, Kunal fakes heroism, then carelessly jeopardizes a planned attack on terrorists and as a result several terrorist escape to their hideouts. Disciplined and chastised, an injured and humbled Kunaljeet awaits to meet his sweetheart - only to find out that she is in love and married to his senior Officer Major Rajeev Singh. The only thread binding Kunal to the army is broken when he finds that Shweta is with Rajeev now. Kunal is heartbroken & confines himself to the field hospital & refuses to take part in combat at the front lines. On the front Amarjeet is working with Rajeev to secure the religious pilgrimage route. It is then Kunaljeet finds out that the terrorists in collusion with rebel Pakistani officers are planning to bomb the Bhagwan Shivji's Amarnath Temple in Jammu & Kashmir in order to ferment communal strife. Due to the breakdown in communication, he is unable to get the message to Rajeev, so Kunal sets off himself to warn Rajeev & Amarjeet. Kunal finds that the terrorists are using a particular horse to get RDX inside the shrine & blow it up. Amarjeet & Rajeev, also figure this out but too late. Kunal reaches just in time to apprehend the RDX from the horse & throws it away from the crowd, where is explodes harmlessly. Kunal is about to die but is saved by his grandfather & all of them fight together to defeat the terrorists. Kunal goes with Dr Sakshi, as he has no other choice.

When Ajay Sharma, a fresh college graduate, is offered to move abroad for better work opportunities, he tries to find his birth certificate but is unable to locate it. He then asks his widowed mother for it but she denies any knowledge of it. Finding tattered pieces of his birth certificate, Ajay joins the pieces and figures that his real name is, in fact, Raj Malhotra and not Raj Sharma. Upon questioning his mother, he learns that his father, Ravi Malhotra, is alive and is serving a sentence in prison for a crime he did not commit. His college best friend Raj joins hands with Ajay, and the two set out to avenge the wrongdoings imposed on Ajay's father.

Ashok Bansal (Jackie Shroff) is a strict industrialist, inspired by the British 'stiff upper lip'. Ashok starts hating poor people & starts working hard to become rich because his mother abandoned him with his two other siblings and left for a richer man in the past. Karim (Deven Verma) is Head Servant of the house. In the process of acquiring wealth, he becomes an unbearable disciplinarian and neglects his family consisting of his younger brother Anil (Shahrukh Khan) and sister Suneeta (Nivedita Saraf). Anil has returned home after many yrs of studies. Ashok is out of town on business and Anil throws a party to celebrate. But Ashok returns unexpectedly and yells at Anil for wasting time and money on parties as he does not like it. The next day he yells at Suneeta for being few minutes late for breakfast as she was preparing the Thali for Rakhi. Anil loves Kavita, who is a poor girl. One day Ashok sees Anil with Kavita and is livid. That night Ashok confronts Anil and says that Kavita is only after Anil for Ashok's wealth. Anil tells Ashok that he or Kavita do not care for his wealth. Anil goes against his brother's highhanded ways and marries Kavita (Nagma), a poor girl and opting to leave the house. Fenni Fernando (Anu Agarwal) is Ashok's secretary in office. Ashok gets his sister Suneeta married to a man who turns out to be a gold digger Pradeep Mallik (Dalip Tahil), although she is in love with Ashok's manager Kamal (Vivek Vaswani) (neither had the courage to go against Ashok and admit their feelings for each other). Pradeep was guided by Mr. Mallik (Bharat Kapoor), Pradeep's brother and his wife (Madhu Malhotra). They send Jairam (Viju Khote), as Marriage Mediator of Sunita and Pradeep. The wedding takes place in double quick time and Anil is not invited to it. Ashok travels to Ranigarh for a new auto-parts plant. There an orphan named Munna makes fun of him and the way he walks (while he was out touring the town). Munna lives in an orphanage under the eyes of evil caretaker Shanti (Sushmita Mukherjee). Pratap (Paresh Rawal) is Shanti's boyfriend and also runs a car theft business in town. Shanti uses the orphanage money to fund her drinking binges. Ashok finds out where Munna lives and visits the orphanage to take revenge. At the time, some journalists are visiting the orphanage. Kamal suggests Ashok should donate, but Munna advises Ashok not to donate too much as Shanti will spend it on her drinks. Ashok gives her rs 50, which makes her angry. That evening Shanti thrashes Munna badly, who has no option but to escape and who decides to hide in Ashok's car and leave for town with him. Munna (Pooja Ruparel), an orphan arrives at Ashok Bansal's house. Initially the servants think Munna is a boy and are ordered to give him a bath, but they find Munna has long hair and that she is a girl. Fenni is summoned to give Munna a bath and to get her ready. Ashok has to allow her to stay for a few days as his sudden appearance at the orphanage has done wonders for his PR and sending her back will create negative press. She creates havoc in Ashok's home (She forces Ashok to spend time with her and Fenni (who is Munna's caretaker), watch movies and so on). Meanwhile Shanti figures out that Munna is living with Ashok and calls him to threaten that he has "stolen" Munna from the orphanage and she will go to the press with this. Ashok decides to take Munna back to the Orphanage, but his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Ashok, Fenni and Munna are forced to take a lift in a truck. They are dropped 20 Kms from Ranigarh. They are forced to spend the night in an abandoned cottage. Fenni manages to forage some food from the local area, but Ashok refuses to touch it. The situation leads to many amorous encounters between Fenni and Ashok (including Ashok seeing Fenni completely naked). Ashok returns Munna to the orphanage the next day. Munna says that she left on her own choice, and forces Shanti to take the lawsuit back, causing a loss of millions. Ashok is happy now but misses Munna terribly. He shares with Fenni the reason why he hates the word "love" so much in his life. On the way back, a trashed Munna again blocks his car, and this time Ashok hugs Munna and brings her back with him to his estate. Ashok is much more relaxed now and values love in his life. He trims his mustache and dresses more informally. Fenni is shocked at his transformation. At her birthday, Ashok gets drunk and openly admits her love for Fenni. Meanwhile Suneeta is in hell as Pradeep sleeps with other women in front of her. Ashok misses Anil and puts out an ad in the newspaper calling him back. as luck would have it, Anil works in an auto garage owned by Pratap. Anil tells Pratap that Ashok is not his brother. On Rakhi, Ashok goes to meet Suneeta. Ashok meets Anil there. Ashok begs for forgiveness to Anil, but Anil refuses to forgive Ashok as he has done a grave injustice to Suneeta by marrying her to Pradeep, as she is treated like a servant in the house and beaten badly. Ashok beats up Pradeep black and blue and brings Suneeta home. Ashok forces Pradeep to sign the divorce papers by threatening to reveal his tax frauds and other thefts with the Govt. Ashok unites Suneeta to Kamal. Meanwhile Anil finds out that Pratap is dealing in stolen cars. As Pratap decides to kill Anil, Ashok intervenes to save him. Pratap is defeated and escapes. Shanti finds Munna is at Ashok's house. Ashok has sent an application to adopt Munna. Anil and Kavita return home. Shanti meets Ashok at his house and says Munna parents have resurfaced and want her back. Shanti offers to buy off the parents for Rs 25 Lakhs, but Ashok now senses that Shanti wants the money for herself and refuses to pay. Ashok puts a notice out in all newspapers that he is adopting Munna. Pratap and Shanti find a piece of locket in the storeroom, that Munna carries in her neck. This would be conclusive proof that whoever carries that piece is her parents. The orphanage kids hear this plan of Pratap to kill Munna after they get the money from Ashok. Pratap and Shanti disguise themselves and reach Ashok as Munna's parents. They say Munna was lost is a carnival many years ago. The piece matches and Ashok sends Munna away with them and Rs 50 Lakhs. The orphans meanwhile go to the police and ask the inspector to call and warn Ashok. The orphans tell Ashok about Shanti and Pratap's plan. Munna escapes and hides in the carnival. She had hidden the money suitcase. Ashok reaches on time and gives Pratap the money, and he wants Munna back. Anil attacks and together they both rescue Munna, while Pratap and Shanti are killed.

Bombay's Police Commissioner Veer Bahadur Singh, lives with his wife, Sharda, and daughter, Jyoti. When DSP Vishal Khanna arrests two notorious robbers and pimps, Shera and Jaaga, and holds them in a cell, their hoodlum boss, Banarsi Das, kidnaps Jyoti, holds her for ransom, and will only release her after the release of his henchmen. Vishal takes it upon himself to rescue her with considerable success resulting in Shera and Jaaga's conviction and a two year prison sentence. After their term is over, Shera and Jaaga meet with Banarsi Das and plot a devious scheme to turn the lives of Veer Bahadur Singh and Vishal Khanna upside down. A saga of love as a man turns rebellious and goes against his family and society to protect his love, a prostitute from evil. Saajan is a college youth, enjoying his life, meets with Kajal the girl of his dreams at a brothel. Kajal is an innocent victim of Dhanraj, who runs this brothel. Saajan eventually falls in love with Kajal, but this love affair is not acceptable to the society, which includes his parents Mr. and Mrs. Sood. Saajan's dad Col. Sood wants his son to join the Indian army. On the other side, this relationship of love is also not acceptable to Dhanraj, since he doesn't want any of his brothel girls to go into normal respectable society. Trapped between both, Saajan, along with his friends, rescues his love from the brothel. Then Saajan brings home a young girl, Kaajal, and introduces her to his mom, informing her that both of them are in love with each other and want to get married. When Vandana asks Kaajal about her parentage, she is told that Kaajal is a prostitute. A shocked Vandana tells about this to Sood, who beats Saajan and asks him to leave the house. Saajan takes Kaajal's hand and they leave the house. A few days later, Police Inspector D'Souza knocks on Sood's door, informing him that a complaint has been made against his son for abducting a young prostitute, commonly known as Paro alias Kaajal, and of beating several men who tried to stop him.
