Rajeshwari orders him to leave the village on the spot but he refuses and he marries Aishwarya. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
Read more →The film starts with Angela Kathamuthu (Rohini) and her cameraman in Central Jail interviewing prisoners serving life imprisonment and awaiting the death sentence. She meets Kothala Thevar (Pasupathy) who is serving a life sentence. He tells his version of the story that led to his conviction. According to him the root cause of the problem is Virumaandi (Kamal Haasan) - the happy go lucky rogue. His support to Kothala Thevar in his clash against Nallama Naicker (Napoleon) brings about a bonding between the two. Annalakshmi (Abhirami), the niece of Thevar falls for Virumaandi. Thevar with an eye on the fertile land owned by Virumaandi does not object to the romance. According to Thevar, Annalakshmi was abducted by Virumaandi and raped. A clash between Virumaandi and Thevar takes places in which 24 innocent people are killed. Now it's Virumaandi's turn to tell his version of the story. He tells of how he fell in love with Annalakshmi and of her influence on him. She taught him to apologize and that forgiveness is a virtue. A clash at the Panchayata infuriates Annalakshmi and she asks Virumaandi to apologize to the elders whom he insulted. He goes to apologize but Thevar and his men, thinking he has gone to take revenge, come in groups and hack down innocents to death. Thevar uses his clout to get out of the murder charge but Virumaandi who was involved in the bloodbath is disturbed because he had to lie to save Thevar and his kin. As part of the penance he wills his land for the villagers. Annalakshmi asks him to marry her and leave the village. He marries her at the village temple and goes away in the night with the girl and stays with a relative. Thevar's men come and abduct Annalakshmi and forcibly get her married to Thevar's nephew. This is to ensure that Annalakshmi's property does not go to Virumaandi. Annalakshmi commits suicide. Virumaandi takes revenge by hacking to death Thevar's family. Thevar escapes. Nallama Naicker gives refuge to Virumaandi and sends him off to Chennai. Thevar and his men ask Nallama Naicker to hand over Virumaandi. A battle ensues in which Nallama Naicker is killed. The case goes to court. Virumaandi turns up in court. He finds all evidence is against him. He is convicted of having raped Annalakshmi and killing her and later on killing 26 men of Thevar who inquired into the rape. Angela Kathamuthu's cameraman discreetly shoots the deputy jailor conspiring with wardens and convicts to bump off the chief jailor (Nassar). A revolt among the jail staff leads to a jail break, the jailor being stabbed and Virumaandi saving the vital evidence and Angela from the deputy jailor and his henchmen. The story begins with the fall of Mangalasserry Neelakandan's (Mohanlal) son Karthikeyan (Mohanlal), as he ventures out to make money which ultimately makes him a liquor baron. The relationship between Neelakandan and Karthikeyan deteriorates, as the father does not approve of his son's money-making methods. Mundakkal Shekharan (Napoleon) comes into the picture again after spending a term in prison for killing one of Neelakandan's friends. He decides to finish the Mangalasserry family by confiscating the house which was kept as collateral for Bhanumathi's (Revathi) treatment. Bhanumathi passes away and Karthikeyan is now bent on taking revenge. Neelakandan loses his home and Karthikeyan ventures out in an attempt to reclaim his ancestral home. In the meantime, Karthikeyan abducts Shekharan's daughter Janaki (Vasundhara Das) in an attempt to blackmail him, during which they fall in love with each other. The remainder of the movie is about how Karthikeyan manages to get his ancestral home back while Shekharan's nephew Mundakkal Rajendran (Vijayaraghavan) makes attempts to kill Karthikeyan, but instead Neelakandan gets killed and Karthikeyan ventures out to kill Mundakkal Shekharan. —Akhil Krishnan

Misra escapes and takes one of the twins with him, hurting Geetha. Chakravarthy pursues him but is unable to find the child and shoots Misra. The child is saved by the other twins due to their reflection mentality, and a female laborer witnesses it. The child is taken by her husband, and they adopt him, while already having a daughter. One day, in an accident at a construction place, the couple is killed. As a result, the two children become orphans. As they grow up, one of the twins, Deva, becomes a thief for earning along with his friend Kasi another orphan. On the other hand, Geetha goes into a coma, and Chakravarthy takes her to America for the cure, where the other twin, Ravi Varma is brought up. He returns to India as a rock star to give performances. He is received by Chakravarthy's friend, who wishes to marry his daughter Manga to him, but Manga is in love with Deva. At the airport, Ravi Varma falls for Ooha, the daughter of Akkamamba, who is organizing his programs. Simhachalam, Akkamamba's brother, also wishes to marry Ooha. Meanwhile, at home, Manga advances with Ravi, thinking he is Deva. One day in a restaurant, they see each other and find that they are identical, which leads to humorous misunderstandings. Meanwhile, Deva's sister Kasthuri witnesses a ruthless don and flutist Mitra, the son of Misra, who murdered an inspector on the road for refusing to stay corrupt and providing evidence against him in court. Enraged, Mitra attempts to rape her, and Deva fights with him, so Mitra wants to take revenge against Deva. He sends his henchman as the groom to Kasthuri, but Deva breaks up the plan and makes his sister's marriage to another man. Deva obtains all pieces of evidence detailing Mitra's crimes and gets him jailed. Later, the court decides on the death sentence for Mitra. As months pass, Kasthuri becomes pregnant and is admitted to the hospital for delivery. Deva asks Ravi to stay at the hospital as he is going in search of money. Ravi visits his father Chakravarthy. At the same time, Mitra escapes from jail, comes to the hospital to kidnap Kasthuri, recognizes Chakravarthy as the one who killed his father, and also gets to know that Deva is his son. Mitra blackmails Deva to get Chakravarthy to release Kasthuri. Deva, who does not know that Chakravarthy is his father, goes to his house where Geetha also comes out from the coma by Deva's touch and he discovers that they are his parents. Finally, Deva and Ravi join, protect their father and sister, and bring Mitra to justice. The story ends with the duo marrying their respective love interests.
