A doctor doing research on cancer treatment faces challenges when he first loses his wife, and then his vision. Dr. Ravi returns from abroad and takes up position as Chief Surgeon in a hospital. He then meets with Nurse Shanti, who lives an impoverished lifestyle with her ailing mother, and decides to perform surgery, but she passes away, and a guilt-ridden Ravi marries Shanti much to the chagrin of his mentor, Kaka, who had hoped that he would marry his daughter, Rajni. The couple then travel to Kashmir for their honey-moon, and then settle down to a harmonious relationship. Hoping to travel even more, their plans are interrupted by the hospital's head doctor, who wants Ravi to focus on cancer research. The couple drop all travel plans and immerse themselves in research so much so that Shanti herself becomes ill, and not wanting to become a burden, leaves. A frantic Ravi searches high and low in vain, and is subsequently devastated to learn that she has perished in a train accident. Kaka then becomes very ill and Kaki tells Ravi that the cause of his illness is Rajni's insistence that she not marry anyone except Ravi. As a result, Ravi marries her but is unable to get Shanti out of his mind. An embittered Rajni feels neglected and decides to confront him - resulting in his losing his vision - perhaps never to see again - and unable to do any further cancer research.

Professor Kumar lives a wealthy life with his wife, a son, Jyoti, and two daughters, Rekha and Chitra. His son is addicted to alcohol and stays away from home, often returning late at night or not at all. Rekha is traditional, orthodox, and is willing to marry the man of her father's choice. Chitra, on the other hand is the opposite, extrovert, outgoing, and having an affair with a Judge's son, Ramesh. Chitra soon finds out that Ramesh is an alcoholic, and a womanizer, but she would still like him to marry her, as she is expecting his child. Then a young man, Prakash, finds out that Prof. Kumar had an affair with his mother, Parvati, and abandoned her in a pregnant state, when he found out that she was going to lose her vision. Prakash now wants to expose this two-faced professor, and get some justice for his mother. Faced with a scandal over his pregnant daughter, will Kumar be able to handle Prakash's accusations?

An innocent guy who has arrived from a village to Kolkata gets himself involved into trouble in search of water after he gets thirsty in the middle of the night. In hopes of improving his lifestyle, a poor peasant re-locates to Kolkata virtually penniless. It is late at night and he is thirsty, and he is unable to find water anywhere. A singing drunk offers him money to buy some alcohol, but the money is snatched away by a taxi-driver. In desperation, the peasant attempts to drink from a fire hydrant, but is stopped by a Police Constable. Then he sneaks into a multi-storied apartment complex, and is mistaken for a thief. The entire building, which consists of over 200 units, housing nearly a 1000 people, set out to hunt him down. He first stumbles into the house of Kailash - who makes illicit alcohol, while his daughter is secretly romancing another tenant, Pradeep; the peasant then runs into another apartment - just in time to see the husband attempting to steal his wife, Meenu's valuables, so that he can get enough money to gamble on a race-horse; he hides in a drum and makes his way around the huge building and ends up as a corpse at the apartment of Ramnarayan Malik, who prints counterfeit rupee notes. Watch what happens when he earns the wrath of Ramnarayan and his men, ends up on a drain pipe several stories high - with scores of residents hurling stones at him - and Ramnarayan's men waiting on the terrace with weapons to kill him. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com) When a poor migrant peasant arrives in the city of Calcutta late at night, he is terribly thirsty but cannot find any drinking water. Their duplicity and the societal corruption he witnesses leave him disillusioned. Throughout the night, he evades capture, with the chase culminating on the rooftop. In a moment of respite, he encounters a young girl who instills in him a renewed sense of self-belief.
