A big fat ``Shaandaar`` Indian wedding, which is actually a business merger between two of the biggest business families of India, is happening at an exotic castle in Europe. Mrs. Kamla Arora, the grandmother of the Arora family, the sole owner of the billion-dollar business and the property, has planned their wedding. Kamla Arora is a shrew, and treats everyone like her servants including her three sons, Bipin, Vipul and Vinay. Mr.Fandwani, the groom`s father, is a loud Sindhi businessman who is the counter to Kamla Arora: The Fandwanis dress in gold, accessorize in gold and if it was possible, they`d drink and eat gold. Set against the backdrop of the Shaandaar wedding, is a love triangle between (our protagonists) Aliya, Jagjinder Joginder and Bipin (Aliya`s father). Bipin believes that there`s no guy who will be good enough for his daughter, while Aliya is a dreamer, but her dreams are whacked out and Jagjinder Joginder is a doer, he can make anything happen! And for obvious reasons, Bipin hates Jagjinder Joginder. The journey of Aliya, Jagjinder Joginder and Bipin in the chaotic and lavish wedding is the story of Shaandaar. It`s a fairy tale love story that everyone has always dreamt of!

Halla Bol is an inspirational story about Ashfaque (Ajay Devgan). He comes from a small town aspiring to become an actor in the Hindi movie industry. Initially,he joins a street theatre group run by an improved dacoit Sidhu (Pankaj Kapur) to make his dream come true. Sidhu uses street theatre to create mass awakening while Ashfaque struggles to give right creative direction for living his dreams. Ashfaque's hard work finally pays off as he gets a break in films. Ultimately, he changes his name from Ashfaque to Sameer Khan and then a superstar.Unfortunately,his reel life success takes toll on his real identity and he loses touch with his real self. But his new corrupt self distances him from his loved one's including his wife, Sneha (Vidya Balan). Everything takes a sudden twist as he founds himself caught amidst his original self and his newly found superstar avatar.

Ajay Kumar the newly appointed, honest SSP of Lucknow police cracks down on the nefarious cop-mafia nexus in Uttar Pradesh, but finds a cunning and ruthless adversary in Gajraj. At the tender age of 8 Ajay Kumar is traumatized with the death of his army officer dad, who kills himself with his service revolver as he was being accused of being a deserter, leaving a widowed Prabha to bring up Ajay on her own. Ajay grows up, studies, and successfully becomes an IPS officer with the title of SSP. Due to his honesty, he gets transferred to various states in India. At this new posting in Uttar Pradesh he comes to terms with criminal don and ruthless killer Gajraj Singh. Ajay would like a set up a Special Task Force to deal with Gajraj, however, he does run into problems as Gajraj is politically well-connected. Then a child, who is a close friend of the state Chief Minister's, is kidnapped by Gajraj, and this paves the way for formation of the STF, consisting of about 8 honest and dedicated men, and this does results in the rescue of the child. Gajraj continues to elude the STF, using more modern technology such as the use of cell phones. But the STF bounces back and is able to monitor Gajraj's cell phones - only to find out that Gajraj is going to contest the elections - and if he wins than no police officer of any rank, leave alone the STF, can dare to arrest him or even consider him a suspect, and which may well result in the STF being mere paper tigers. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com) Ajay Kumar (Warsi) is the newly appointed, honest SSP of Lucknow police. Of his family only his mother (Mulay) remains, and she inspires and motivates him to do the right thing. Ajay tries to crack down on the UP mafia, but more often than not is betrayed by information-leaking local police officials. His boss tries to aid him by shielding him from political pressures, and by getting sanction for Ajay's brainchild - a Special Task Force (STF), which would work across local jurisdictions, and state lines. Criminal activities in UP are dominated by Gajraj (Sushant Singh) and his gang. Aided and abetted in his nefarious activities by feudal lords and politicians, Gajraj is an intelligent and ruthless criminal. Trying to pin him down, the STF takes help from a physics professor Tiwari (Kapoor) who helps them track down cell-phone conversations, and thereby the location of the criminals. The STF then makes headway in combating crime across the state, but is still unable to get Gajraj. The final attempt to get Gajraj forms the climax of the film. —Amodini

After years of painstaking research at the cost of his domestic pleasure, Dr. Dipankar Roy discovers a vaccine for leprosy. The news is flashed over television and overnight, an insignificant junior doctor receives international recognition. Professional jealousy and abuse of power threaten Dr. Roy, even as the Secretary of Health reprimands him for breaking the news to the press. He is asked to report to the Director of Health. Professional colleagues Dr. Arijit Sen and Dr. Ramananda invite him to a lecture but it is merely a pretence to humiliate him. Dr. Roy suffers a mild heart attack but he refuses to go to the hospital. His wife and few others like Dr. Kundu stand by Dr. Roy, but the harassment continues; a letter from an American foundation is suppressed and Dr. Roy transferred to a remote village. The last straw is two American doctors receiving credit for discovering the same vaccine. Dr. Roy is shattered. —Rajesh Das The movie is one of the finest work of veteran Tapan Sinha. It revolves around the life of Dr. Dipankar Roy who has engrossed himself in researching a cure of a dreaded diseases. During the course, he has already ruined his relationship with his wife due his ignorance. After years of hard work, when he finds a breakthrough in his research, his work is publicized but it attains negative reviews and skepticism from noted doctors, bureaucrats and his peers. It leads to immense dissatisfaction and is driven to a point of insanity due to the exasperating outlook of people around him. Will the work done by the doctor ever attain any recognition or will he be flushed in the vortex of democracy? These questions are answered by the movie with some exemplary performances by Pankaj Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Anil Chatterjee and budding Irrfan Khan. —Utkarsh Srivastava

Kamla Ki Maut is a 1989 Hindi drama film directed by Basu Chatterjee. The film set in Mumbai, deals with issue of love, pre-marital sex and relationships in modern India. Sudhakar Patel meets with young Anju and both fall in love with each other. Hoping to get married soon, both get intimate, resulting in a pregnancy. Both do not have the means to look after a child and decide to abort it. After the abortion Sudhakar disappears from Anju's life. Sudhakar relocates to another town, falls in love with Chameli, and promises to marry her when confronted by her irate father and townspeople, but subsequently disappears from her life also. Sudhakar then has an affair with Laxmi, who is the wife of his friend, Prakash, and gets a sound beating from Prakash when he finds him half-naked in his house. Shortly thereafter Sudhakar marries Nirmala, a young woman who wanted to marry her tutor. Years later, Sudhakar is still married to Nirmala, he now has two daughters, Geeta and Charu, who are of marriageable age and having affairs with Ajit and Deepak respectively. Their next door neighbor is Kamla Thakur who is to get married to Bhaskar soon, but kills herself by throwing herself from the 5th floor of her apartment building. Dalit Jagseer Singh's troubles do not seem to end in this poignant portrayal of life in a small village of Punjab in newly independent India. Jasbir, the son of the sharecropper, Thola, is treated as a brother by the landlord Dharam Singh. The landlord's son, however, does not continue this family tradition. As Jasbir's mother belongs to a nomed caste, the hero's love for the bride of the impotent barber Nika is fraught with problems. Symbolically, the building of Jasbir's father's tomb and then of his own tomb hastens jasbir's physical deterioration and death.

Kapil's brother dies from drugs, prompting him to join police. His friend Albert is killed in Goa. Kapil travels there, faces local police opposition. He goes rogue, evading authorities and goons, to uncover truth behind Albert's death. Kapil's (Naseeruddin Shah) younger brother, Buntu, dies as a result of a drug overdose. Kapil vows to put an end to drugs and drug-dealers, by joining the police. He soon attains the title of C.I.D. Inspector. He lives in Bombay with his mom (Kamini Kaushal). One day his friend from Goa, Albert Pinto (Pankaj Kapoor) is killed in front of him. He vows to avenge his death, but the local police will not permit to do so, and they assign this incident to another inspector. Frustrated, Kapil decides to travel to Goa. Once in Goa, he finds out that he has no powers as a policeman, and the Goa police regard him as a nuisance. He attempts to uncover Albert's death, with the help of Jojo (Archana Puran Singh), but instead gets into brawls, is arrested, and is escorted by the local police, back to Bombay. But Kapil escapes from police custody, and soon he is on the run, not only the police, but local goons also, who will not hesitate to kill him instantly. —rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com) Bombay's C.I.D. inspector Kapil watches helplessly as his younger brother, Banto dies as a result of drug overdose. He then swears to bring all drug-dealers to justice only to witness the assassination of his friend, Albert Pinto; his aggression to locate the killers of his friends are frustrated by his seniors forcing him to go to Albert's region, Goa. He then seeks help with one of Albert's acquaintance, Jyoti alias Jojo but the Goa police do not allow him to exercise his rights as a police and thus when his investigations starts to show progress he is disregard and is taken back to Bombay. He then travels to Goa in search of these gangsters and manage to endued the police, every where he goes he kept on hearing about these deadly drugs - brown sugar and cocaine. Madhav Verma (Om Puri) is a dedicated, honest, and diligent union representative. He represents the majority of the employees in an organization, which recognizes his union. However, there is a rival in the shape and form of Rustom Patel (Naseeruddin Shah) who is attempting to break the union so as to establish his majority, through his henchman Krishnan (Gopi), and will not hesitate to stoop to any level to get what he wants. Chhotelal (Pankaj Kapoor) loses his legs in an accident, and must be hospitalized. Krishnan takes advantage of the situation and puts pressure on Chhotelal and his brothers (Achyut Potdar and Harish Patel) to enroll in his union, and he will get him a higher compensation package than his regular union.
