What happens when a top cop, Vinay Pathak (Irfaan Khan), the closest friend and colleague of Ajay Singh (Sunny Deol), an extremely brave and an honest cop in Mumbai police force starts investigating a case of murder of Ajay Singh`s wife (Ishaa Koppikar) and his prime suspect is no one else but Ajay Singh himself. They both cannot believe the situation because they both love each other but ironically both are the pride of Mumbai police force. Did Ajay murder his own beloved wife? Or did Ajay`s buddy and the investigating officer Vinay Pathak murder her? Or did some else murder Ajay`s wife? Ripples begin with wits and mind games..! No one could solve the mystery not even Ajay`s female friend, a top lawyer, Konkana Sen, till Ajay comes out with his own supremacy.

Businessman Rai Bahadur Laxmi Narayan lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay along with his wife, Lakshmi. Although they have been married for several years, they have no children. While on a trip to Simla, they get adopt their servant, Diler's son, re-name him Vicky, and bring him back home, much to the dismay of Diler's wife, Parvati. Aometime later, Lakshmi gets pregnant and re-visits Simla, meets with an accident and passes away, leaving behind a new-born son, Amar. Diler wants to kill Amar, but Parvati wants to return him to Laxmi Narayan, and runs away to Bombay. Diler informs his employer that both his wife and son have passed away and have been cremated. Diler re-locates to Bombay, follows her but is unable to locate Parvati. She does reach Bombay along with Amar but she, in turn, is unable to locate Laxmi Narayan. Years later Amar has grown up, lives with Parvati in Versova, works as a Police Inspector in Sion Police Station, and is in love with Priya, the Superintendent of Police's daughter, while Diler is a taxi-driver, and Vicky is an alcoholic and wants to wed Priya. On their return to Bombay they decides to name the child, Vicky. Time passes with Lakshmi becoming pregnant; the duo then returns to Simla where Lakshmi give birth to a son and passes away. Diler wants to kill Rai Bahadur son resulting in Parvati running away with the child to Bombay and in turn fails to locate Rai Bahadur. Diler then informs his boss about his wife and new-born baby's death and their cremation. Eventually years passed by with Diler following Parvati to Bombay but is unable to locate her yielding him to take up profession as a taxi driver. Parvati raises Rai Bahadur son, Amar and together they resides at Versova with Amar taking up the job of a police inspector and is in love with the Superintendent of Police daughter, Priya while Vicky grows up to be an alcoholic and amateur gambler and he too aspire to marry Priya. Thakur Shamsher Singh lives a wealthy life that is funded chiefly by criminal activities such smuggling and dealing in drugs. He has never been arrested as he has several high-ranking politicians and Police Officials on his 'payroll'. When an Editor of a newspaper exposes him, he has the entire family ruthlessly killed. Dutta Baabu is contesting elections against a corrupt politician Bishamber Prasad. Inspector Ranjit Singh is an honest officer who gets proof of Prasad`s involvement in Datta`s death. Bhagwan Shri Ram would like his param-bhakt (Chief Devotee) Shri Hanuman to tour Kalyugic (Dark-aged) Hindustan, and himself witness the regression that has taken over this once peaceful, orderly, and religious country. Upon arrival in his present heavenly form, Shri Hanuman is mistaken by Police Inspector Thakur Hanuman Singh, to be a spy from a foreign country, and he gets on the run until Shri Ram changes his appearance to a wealthy man named Pavan Kumar, thus making him elude the police. Pavan meets with a man named Dashrath, who has two sons Raman and Dhaman. While Raman is married to Sarita, Dhaman is currently wooing Nirmala, and Dashrath's wife is the fashionable Kamla, who looks more like Dashrath's daughter. Things are not well in this family, as Kamla would like her ailing mother-in-law to turn over the family jewels, deities, and diamonds in her care - in vain though. So she maliciously gets Dashrath to sign over his entire estate in her name - leaving him penniless. Pavan attempts to set things right for this family, but greed, avarice, and lust have already overcome them to such an extent that he must use his heavenly powers to control them. Master Dinanath is an ex-freedom fighter. When he gets Thakur Pratap Singh arrested for arms smuggling, he has Master's wife Bharati and young daughter Priti kidnapped and also turns his locality's public against him. Dinanath escapes with his young son Raju and they settle into a slum named Bharat Nagar. Meanwhile, Bharati contracts leprosy and escapes from her kidnappers, leaving her daughter Priti in a friend's care. Dinanath is led to presume that his wife and daughter are dead. Bharati Nagar is ruled by four underworld dons, each representing a different Indian community. Dinanath persuades them to live in harmony and once they settle their differences, the four dons use Dinanath's stay in Bharat Nagar to cover up their own illegal activities. Fast Forward to 15 years later, the year is 1962. Dinanath's now grown-up son Raju turns out to be the opposite of his father by being drawn into the underworld, committing crimes to earn money with his father unaware of what he does. Raju starts working for Thakur Pratap Singh, unaware that Thakur had once kidnapped his mother and sister many years earlier which caused their separation.
