A young George Jung (Johnny Depp) and his parents Fred (Ray Liotta) and Ermine (Rachel Griffiths) of Weymouth, Massachusetts. When George is ten years old, Fred files for bankruptcy and loses everything, but tries to make George realize that money is not important. As an adult, George (Johnny Depp) moves to Los Angeles with his friend "Tuna" (Ethan Suplee); they meet Barbara (Franka Potente), an airline stewardess, who introduces them to Derek Foreal (Paul Reubens), a marijuana dealer. With Derek's help, George and Tuna make a lot of money by retailing pot on the beaches. Kevin Dulli (Max Perlich), a college student back in Boston, visits them and tells them of the enormous market-and demand-for pot in Boston. With Barbara's help, they start bringing the drugs to Boston (Barbara starts by taking 25 pounds of pot to Boston per day on her flights, as her bags are not checked). The demand for the "good pot" skyrockets. As the demand grows, they decide to start buying the drugs directly from Mexico with the help of Santiago Sanchez (Tony Amendola), a Mexican drug lord. But two years later, George is caught in Chicago trying to import 660 pounds of marijuana and is sentenced to two years. After unsuccessfully trying to plead his innocence (by reciting the lyrics of Bob Dylan's "Pretty Boy Floyd (Woody Guthrie)") and insisting that he did no more than "cross an imaginary line with a bunch of plants"), George skips bail to take care of Barbara, who is suffering from, and eventually succumbs to, cancer. Her death marks the disbanding of the group of friends; even his friend, Tuna, flees their vacation home in Mexico and is never seen again. While hiding from the authorities, George visits his parents back in New England. While he is having a heart-to-heart talk with his father, George's mother calls the police, who come and arrest him. George is now sentenced to 26 months in a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut. His cellmate Diego Delgado (Jordi Molla) has contacts in the Medellín cocaine cartel and convinces George to help him go into business. Upon his release from prison, George violates his parole conditions and heads down to Cartagena, Colombia to meet up with Diego. They meet with cartel officer Cesar Rosa to negotiate the terms for smuggling 15 kilograms (33 lb) to establish "good faith". As the smuggling operation grows, Diego gets arrested, leaving George to find a way to sell 50 kg (110 pounds) and get the money in time. George reconnects with Derek in California, and the two successfully sell all 50 kg in 36 hours, amassing a $1.35 million profit. George is then whisked off to Medellín, Colombia, where he finally meets the group's leader, Pablo Escobar (Cliff Curtis), who agrees to go into business with them. With the help of main middleman Derek, the pair becomes Escobar's top US importer. At Diego's wedding, George meets Cesar's fiance Mirtha (Penélope Cruz) and marries her. However, Diego resents George for keeping Derek's identity secret and pressures George to reveal his connection. George eventually discovers that Diego has betrayed him by cutting him out of the connection with Derek. Inspired by the birth of his daughter and chastened by a subsequent drug-related heart attack, George severs his relationship with the cartel and vows to leave the drug business forever. All goes well with George's newfound civilian life for five years, until Mirtha organizes a 38th birthday party for him. Many of his former drug associates attend, including Derek, who reveals that Diego eventually cut him out as well. The FBI and DEA raid the party and arrest George. Following George's conviction, he becomes a fugitive. Meanwhile, his bank account-heretofore under Manuel Noriega's protection in Panama-is seized. One night, he and Mirtha get into a fight while driving. They are pulled over by police and Mirtha tells them Jung is a fugitive and has stashed a kilogram of cocaine in his trunk. He is sent to jail for three years, during which time Mirtha divorces him and takes custody of their nine-year-old daughter, Kristina "Sunshine" Jung (Emma Roberts). Upon his release, George finds himself struggling to keep his relationship with his daughter on good terms. George promises Kristina a vacation in California and seeks one last deal to garner enough money for the trip. George completes a deal with former accomplices but learns too late that the deal had been set up by the FBI and DEA, with Dulli and Derek having leaked the nature and location of the action in exchange for pardons for their involvement in his prior actions. George is sentenced to 60 years at Otisville Correctional Facility in upstate New York. He explains in the end that neither the sentence nor the betrayal bothered him, but that he can never forgive himself for having to break a promise to his daughter. While in prison, George requests a furlough to see his dying father, Fred. His unforgiving mother denies the request, saying a visit would only upset Fred. George is given a tape recorder to record a final message to his father. In the message, George recounts his memories of working with his father, his run-ins with the law, and finally, too late, his understanding of what Fred meant when he said that money is not "real". The film closes with George as an old man in prison, imagining that his daughter (Jaime King) finally comes to visit him. She slowly fades away as a guard calls for George. The film concludes with notes indicating that Jung's sentence will not expire until 2015, and that his daughter has yet to visit him. The film's final image is a photograph of the actual George Jung.

Young genius Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson) is regularly neglected and mistreated by her parents, Harry (Danny DeVito) (a grumpy, hateful and abusive crooked car salesman who is Matilda and Michael's father) and Zinnia (Rhea Perlman) (cheery and Bingo-obsessed parent), and her older brother, Michael (Brian Levinson) (bratty son and Matilda's older brother who bullies her and calls her "dip-face"). The Wormwoods are so caught up in their own silly lives that they never notice that Matilda is a genius. She was left unattended at home, when she would cook breakfast for herself and later even go on public transport to the public library. She is smart, independent and frequently goes to the public library where she finds solace in the fictional worlds found in the books. When Matilda's parents refuse to enroll her into school (she is six and a half years old, but her parents insist she is 4), she retaliates against them, first by adding hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent to her father's hair tonic and then by gluing his hat to his head. When Harry rips up the library's copy of Moby-Dick (which he finds offensive because of the title) and forces Matilda to watch television instead, Matilda becomes increasingly enraged until the television explodes. One of Harry's car dealership customers is Miss Agatha Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), the tyrannical principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School (Jennifer Honey's aunt, she was a former Olympian athlete who hurt the children when she uses Shotput, Hammer throw, & javelin, and later puts them in the Chokey (a tiny room with jagged edges and door with nails which don't allow a child to sit)). Harry sells her a car in exchange for her admitting Matilda as a pupil. At school, Matilda makes friends but discovers Trunchbull's harsh punishments of the students, while Matilda's teacher, Miss Jennifer Honey (Embeth Davidtz), takes a liking to Matilda due to her intelligence. Honey requests Matilda be moved up to a higher class, but Trunchbull refuses (she thinks Matilda is troublesome and Honey is trying to pass her off to another teacher). Miss Honey tells the Wormwoods about Matilda's genius-level intellect, but they ignore her (Honey implores them that with proper instruction Matilda will be ready for college in a few short years). Matilda discovers that her father is under surveillance by two undercover FBI agents (Bob (Paul Reubens) and Bill (Tracey Walter)) because of his illegal dealings (he used to buy stolen car parts to fix them to his old cars and sell them like new and was using cheap tricks like gluing parts and saw dust in the transmission to fool his customers). Her parents refuse to believe her as they assume that the agents are speedboat salesmen as Zinnia flirts with them. Trunchbull locks Matilda in the Chokey as she has now figured out that Matilda's dad sold her a lemon. When Trunchbull comes for a surprise inspection to Matilda's class, Honey goes out to rescue Matilda. As a prank, Lavender (Kiami Davael), one of Matilda's friends, puts a newt in Trunchbull's water jug to scare her. Trunchbull accuses Matilda, whose anger at the injustice leads her to Telekinetically tip the glass over, splashing the newt onto Trunchbull. However, Matilda is then unable to display her powers to Honey during a test run. Honey remarks that often one's confidence in themselves leads them to prove it to others, only to have them mess up. Honey invites Matilda over to her house for tea and reveals a secret: when she was two, her mother died from her circus accident injuries, and her father, a doctor, invited his wife's stepsister, Miss Trunchbull, to live with them and look after her, but Trunchbull abused her; when Honey was five, her father died of an alleged suicide and left everything to Trunchbull. Ms. Trunchbull actually killed Ms. Honey's father and made it appear like suicide. Honey now lives in a cottage on the other side of town but laments that Trunchbull has her precious photos of her mom & dad. When Matilda and Honey sneak inside Trunchbull's house to obtain some of the latter's belongings, Trunchbull's sudden return prompts the duo to barely escape without getting caught. Matilda trains her telekinetic power by making objects fly around the house and thwarting the FBI agents (by stealing their evidence tapes) in order to buy Harry time to come to his senses. Having practiced her ability, she returns to Trunchbull's house in an attempt to take Honey's doll which she loves very much & to scare Trunchbull by moving furniture around the house (She burns Trunchbull's portrait and hangs Honey's father's portrait in its place), but Trunchbull discovers Matilda's presence upon finding her hair ribbon. The next day, Matilda reveals her powers to Honey but Trunchbull visits the class to make Matilda confess. Matilda magically writes a message on the blackboard, pretending to be the vengeful soul of Miss Honey's deceased father, Magnus, who accuses Trunchbull of murdering him. Trunchbull attacks the students, but Matilda keeps them safe, and she and the other students force her out of the school for good, and Honey moves back into her true home. Sometime later, the Wormwoods show up at Honey's house to pick up Matilda and flee to Guam while planning to beat the "speedboat salesmen" to the airport. Matilda refuses to go with them and says she would rather be adopted by Honey. Zinnia and Harry both sign Matilda's adoption papers, with Zinnia feeling remorseful for never understanding her daughter. Matilda lives happily with Honey, who then becomes the new principal of Crunchem Hall.

Pee-wee Herman is now a small-town farmer with a fiancée, but when a traveling circus comes to town, he finds himself falling for the trapeze artist. In the sequel to "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", Pee-Wee Herman has had enough with the fame and constant media attention he received after the events of the first movie, so he's now a simple farmer living quietly in a small town. But after a big storm blows their way, a circus ends up at Pee Wee's farm. So he lets the circus stay at his farm for a while. The circus decides to put on a show with one lovable star, Pee-Wee! Also, a love triangle develops between Pee-Wee, his nice fiancée Winnie, who's the local schoolteacher, and mysterious loner Gina, the circus' attractive trapeze artist. The outcome of this subplot is somewhat unexpected. —James Preston

Pee-Wee Herman wakes from a dream in which he has won the Tour de France. After having breakfast, Pee-Wee decides to ride his bike down to the local shopping center. The bicycle itself is heavily customized, tricked out with specialized fenders, a spring-loaded ejection seat, custom wheel caps and a gold license plate declaring it's his property. Pee Wee keeps it in a hidden shed protected by a coded theft system and camouflaged by a bush. Pee Wee spends a short period of time polishing and admiring his bike before he meets up with Francis Buxton, a local and spoiled overgrown rich kid who wants to buy Pee-Wee's bike as a birthday gift for himself. Pee-Wee rebukes this offer and ridicules Francis, before cycling off, with Francis shouting after him that "he'll be sorry." Pee-Wee arrives at the shopping center, where he chains his bike to a clown statue, before stopping off at a nearby magic shop. Next, he goes to the local bicycle shop to procure a new horn. While there, an employee and friend of Pee-Wee's named Dottie, attempts to ask Pee-Wee on a date, which he refuses, telling her he's too much of a "loner" and a "rebel" for her. Pee-Wee then returns to his bike... only to find the chains destroyed and his bike gone. He returns to the bike shop and yells for Dottie and faints. Pee-Wee goes to the police, but they are unable to help him. When asked if anyone might have really wanted his bike, Pee-Wee surmises that Francis Buxton must have taken it. Pee-Wee sneaks into the Buxton's mansion, and forces Francis to confess. However, Francis' father explains that Francis couldn't have stolen the bike, since Francis and his father have been at the mansion setting up his birthday train set all morning. Pee-Wee is still determined to find his bike, and begins to post fliers and goes on the radio to alert people about it. Unknown to Pee-Wee, Francis did have a hand in the theft of his bike, hiring a shady guy to steal the bike for him. However, with Pee-Wee not giving up the search, Francis becomes nervous and pays the hired guy extra to get rid of the bicycle. Down on his luck, Pee-Wee wanders the rainy streets of town - scaring off a small gang merely by hissing at them - and visits a phony psychic, who convinces Pee-Wee that his bike is in the basement of The Alamo. Pee-Wee then sets out on his epic journey to get there. His first encounter while hitchhiking is with an escaped criminal named Mickey driving a stolen Edsel Corsair, who was arrested for cutting the tag off a mattress. Even with his criminal background, Pee-Wee still takes a shine to Mickey, and helps him get past a police roadblock. That evening, while driving, Pee-Wee almost gets them killed when he tries to swerve around a series of (impossible) turns in the road. Mickey has had enough of his eccentric travel-mate and orders Pee-Wee out of the car, before driving off into the dark night. Pee-Wee next hitches a ride from a rather strange trucker named Large Marge, who tells him a creepy story about "the worst accident I ever seen" which happened 10 years earlier on the very same road they're on. Pee Wee hangs on her every word until her face suddenly becomes horribly monstrous and he screams before she changes back. After dropping him off at a truck stop restaurant, and telling Pee-Wee "Be sure an' tell 'em Large Marge sent ya!" Pee-Wee is further shocked to find that Large Marge was killed ten years ago to the day... and that he was riding with her ghost. After the ordeal, Pee-Wee attempts to have a meal, but finds that his wallet is gone (which was stolen earlier by the phony psychic). After washing and drying dishes in the kitchen to pay for his meal, a friendly waitress named Simone asks him to watch the sunrise with her. They sit together in the mouth of a Tyrannosaurus Rex statue nearby, and while watching the sunrise, Simone and Pee-Wee discuss their dreams. Simone's dream is to one day go to Paris, but she feels her boyfriend Andy won't let her. Pee-Wee encourages her to follow her dreams. However, as they exit the statue at dawn, the hulking Andy is waiting to clobber Pee-Wee, thinking 'the worst' has happened. Pee-Wee escapes on a nearby freight train, where he runs into a hobo named Jack, who then proceeds to sing all manner of songs until Pee-Wee finally jumps from the train... which just happened to have arrived in San Antonio, Texas. Pee-Wee quickly seeks out the Alamo and takes a boring and sappy tour, only to find that it doesn't have a basement! Dejected and back to square one, Pee-Wee attempts to take a bus home, when he runs into Simone, who explains that she left Andy, and is planning to go to Paris and follow her dreams. Shortly after she leaves, her jealous boyfriend Andy appears, and on seeing Pee-Wee, gives chase. The chase leads them to a rodeo, where Pee-Wee, disguised as a cowboy, rides a bull. He stays on for a record amount of time but is thrown off. When he's spotted by Andy, the thug tries to catch him but is chased off by another bull. However, Pee-Wee suffers a slight concussion, and lapses into a temporary state of amnesia. When the small crowd that revived him asks if he can remember anything, he says he remembers the Alamo and they all cheer. Wandering the road lonely and lost, Pee-Wee finds a tavern, the private hangout of a gang named "Satan's Helpers", a loud and rowdy group of bikers. While trying to make a phone call, he shushes them. They eject him. After accidentally knocking over their bikes, the bikers are intent on killing Pee-Wee, but give into his 'last request,' and watch as he dons a pair of white platform loafers and dances to the song "Tequila". Having won them over, the bikers then give Pee-wee one of their motorcycles, and send him on his way. Unfortunately, Pee-Wee's first time on a motorcycle proves disastrous, and he crashes shortly thereafter. The gang escorts his ambulance to the hospital. After being rushed to the hospital, Pee-Wee has a strange dream about a group of clown-faced doctors trying to repair his bicycle and then having it dropped in a flaming cauldron, with Francis nearby, dressed as the Devil. Pee Wee wakes up a little later to see a television program, showing his bike had been donated to a child actor on the Warner Brothers studio lot. Immediately regaining his memory, Pee-Wee heads to Hollywood, California. After sneaking into the studio's backlot, he discovers that his bike is a prop in a movie about an orphaned kid who leaves it to the orphanage before he sets out on his own. Disguised as a nun, he steals the bicycle from the set. After leading the studio's security on a wild chase through various sound stages, including a Godzilla set, a beach party setup, one dedicated to Christmas and Santa and past the band Twisted Sister shooting a music video, Pee-Wee manages to escape from the studio, but not before finding a burning pet store nearby. Pee-Wee manages to rescue almost all the animals, but in the wake of his heroism, is arrested by the police for his transgressions on the studio lot. However, after hearing his side of the story and events, one of the studio's executives sees the potential for a movie based on Pee-Wee's 'big adventure.' Pee-Wee agrees, only to have the film made into an action film starring James Brolin as a spy and Morgan Fairchild as his love interest. Pee-Wee himself is relegated to a cameo as a hotel bellhop with a dubbed-over voice. Even so, Pee-Wee is thrilled, and invites all his friends and people he met on his trip to view the picture at the local drive-in. Mickey is there, still imprisoned and heavily guarded. Pee Wee gives him a footlong hotdog, but the guards find a hacksaw blade that Pee Wee had tried to pass Mickey. Simone is there with her new French boyfriend, Pierre. And his friends in the biker gang are there too. Francis even shows up, persuading a press junket about what "good friends" he and Pee-Wee are. Francis even attempts to sit on Pee-Wee's bike for a photo-op. Pee Wee of course wants no part of it but realizes his opportunity to have his revenge and invites Francis on. With the brat in place, Pee Wee triggers the bike's ejection seat and Francis is sent hurtling skyward. Dottie is there too, having finally gotten her date with him. Pee-Wee wants to leave early, admitting he doesn't need to see the whole film, since he already lived it.
