Four stoners, five vegans, three mobsters, four hunters, and a million reasons to free one junkie elephant. Roy Arnie has a dream. One day he will run his own circus and conquer the world. Today, however, he is a stable-hand working in the Circus Stromowski, a miserable Russian big top, run by a hopeless alcoholic fourth generation circus director, Igor Stromowski, and full of useless has-beens and tired animals, which will only perform under the influence of narcotics. Roy Arnie invites his old buddies Gaz and Odd, and their sidekick Flea, to come and work at the circus, and while work is an alien concept to Gaz and Odd, the appearance of an irate criminal who they are indebted to decides the issue. At the circus, Roy Arnie introduces the trio to the star attraction: Jimmy the elephant. Formerly a great sight, but after 20 years at the circus he has become addicted to every drug under the sun. He performs in a purple haze, counting down the days until someone realizes he will be more useful as a set of piano keys. Roy Arnie keeps him going with a complex regime of uppers and downers to make him energetic for performances and docile the rest of the time. If the mixture is wrong, either there would be several tons of rampaging elephant or a sleep walking act. Jimmy is the key to Roy Arnie's dreams. The elephant carries a secret, a secret of enough value to bankroll Roy Arnie's circus. All he has to do is to free Jimmy and his dreams will come true. Yet, it is not as easy as it sounds. Roy Arnie's dreams are jeopardized when the elephant is locked up for going on a drug induced rampage, then escapes and runs away to the moors. Militant animal rights activists also want to free Jimmy from the tyranny of abuse. To further complicate matters, the meanest men in the north, the Lappish Mafia, are also keen to free Jimmy so that they can get their hands on the elephant's secret. An epic farcical journey ensues where the stoners, the vegans and the mobsters, joined by an alcohol fueled hunting party all compete to capture the drugged up Jimmy. Now the only thing that can thwart their plans is a strangely compassionate moose...

In the countryside of Yorkshire, the Tweedys, a middle-aged couple, run their chicken farm in Yorkshire, England. Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson) serves as the brains and temper, while Mr. Tweedy (Tony Haygarth) is rather slow but handles the manual work. The coop is run in the style of a World War II POW camp, with the chickens accountable for the number of eggs they lay daily. They kill and eat any chicken that is no longer able to lay eggs. The coop is like a prison with fences on all sides and locked gates. The dogs patrol the coop constantly. One chicken, Ginger (Julia Sawalha), has attempted numerous plans to flee the coop, aided by contraband smuggled into the coop by two rats, Nick (Timothy Spall) and Fetcher (Phil Daniels), but is always caught by Mr. Tweedy and his dogs, and is thrown into the solitary confinement numerous times. Ginger's plans include digging under the fence, or even digging a whole tunnel from the coop to the outside jungle, or even using a combination of chickens to create a human shaped object dressed like a human. Mr Tweedy suspects the chickens are organized and plotting resistance, but his wife dismisses his theories while being frustrated with making minuscule profits. The other chicken on the farm include Babs (Jane Horrocks) a chubby chicken who loves knitting, Bunty (Imelda Staunton) the champion egg-layer and Mac (Lynn Ferguson) Ginger's Scottish second in command. Meanwhile, Mrs. Tweedy realizes that her farm is failing and reads a catalog on an ambiguous method of increasing profits at her farm. Ginger, realizing something is wrong, attempts to convince the other hens to speed up their efforts to escape. However, she soon comes to the conclusion that the only escape route is to go over the fence, something chickens cannot do. Later the same night, as a depressed Ginger sits outside, a Rhode Island Red rooster named Rocky (Mel Gibson) seemingly flies over the fence and accidentally crashes into the coop. The hens fawn over the new arrival, who introduces himself as Rocky. The chickens put his sprained wing in a cast and hide him from the Tweedys, who have been promised a handsome reward by Rocky's owner for his return. Ginger is initially suspicious, til she finds the first half of a poster with Rocky on it. Showing it to the other hens and explaining how he came in, she claims that he can fly and attempts to convince Rocky to help her and the other hens escape by teaching them how to fly. However, Rocky's wing was injured, and he cannot show them immediately. Instead, Rocky puts them through a set of exercises that seem to have no purpose while assuring them that all the chickens are making progress. Meanwhile, a large machine arrives, and Mr. Tweedy begins assembling it. The crate contained the parts for a chicken pie machine that Mrs Tweedy has ordered as part of a plan to convert the farm into a profitable pie-making factory. At the same time, Tweedys increase the chickens' food rations and ignore the decline in egg production. Ginger unwisely proclaims that her intent is to fatten them up for something, causing a panic. After Ginger and Rocky get into an argument, Rocky holds a morale-boosting dance party during which it is revealed that his wing is healed. Ginger talks Rocky into agreeing to give a flying demonstration the next day. However, the machine is now complete, and Mr. Tweedy kidnaps Ginger for its first test. Rocky follows Ginger into the machine and rescues her, sabotaging the machine and giving them more time to work on their escape. Fowler (Benjamin Whitrow), an older rooster, gives Rocky his respect for rescuing Ginger and his old Royal Air Force (RAF) badge in tribute. Rocky decides to flee the farm the next day, leaving behind Fowler's medal and the second half of the poster, showing that he was a stunt rooster, only "flying" by being shot out of a cannon. This revelation outrages the other chickens, and a fight soon breaks out as morale falls. When Fowler arrives to restore order, he begins talking of his days in the RAF, leading Ginger to realize that she and the other chickens can build a plane made from Fowler's pictures and personal recollections. The chickens race against time to assemble their plane as Mr. Tweedy works to repair the pie machine. Meanwhile, Rocky comes across a billboard advertising Mrs Tweedy's chicken pies and returns to the farm out of guilt. The chickens finally finish their plane just as Mr. Tweedy completes the repairs of the pie machine and enters the coop to grab all the chickens. The chickens launch an open revolt, tying up and gagging Mr. Tweedy and readying the "crate", which Ginger persuades Fowler to pilot. As the chickens start to take off, Mr. Tweedy gets free and knocks down the ramp. Ginger jumps down while Fowler turns the plane around, knocking Mr. Tweedy unconscious. As Ginger struggles to lift the ramp, Mrs. Tweedy arrives with an ax and attacks Ginger. However, Rocky, having had a change of heart, flies over the fence and hits Mrs. Tweedy in her face aboard a tricycle. Rocky and Ginger grab onto a string of lights caught on the plane's landing gear. Mrs. Tweedy awakens, and grabs onto the lights, weighing down the crate. Ginger heads down the string to cut it, but loses the scissors. Realizing the only way to cut the lights, Ginger tricks Mrs. Tweedy by using the hatchet to sever the string. Mrs. Tweedy falls, crashing into the pie machine and plugging her into the safety valve. This causes the machine to explode, destroying the barn and covering most of the farm with a cloud of mushroom gravy. The chickens celebrate their victory after defeating the Tweedys while Ginger and Rocky kiss, and they fly to an island bird sanctuary where they make their home. Sometime later, the chickens have settled into their new home, and Rocky and Ginger have started a romantic relationship. Nick and Fetcher, two rats that have been helping the chickens throughout the escape, decide to set up their own egg farm, but they fall into a circular debate over whether they must use a chicken or egg to start it.

Baron Charles Frankenstein (Sting), Dr. Zalhus (Quentin Crisp), and Frankenstein's assistant, Paulus (Timothy Spall), attempt to create a female mate, Eva (Jennifer Beals), for his creation (Clancy Brown). The team of scientists succeed in creating Eva, who is physically identical to a human and lacking the deformities of the monster. As such, she is disgusted by the monster and rejects him. A confrontation between the monster and Frankenstein regarding Eva lead the monster to become deadly angry and destroy the laboratory. Believing the monster has perished, Frankenstein escapes with Eva back to Castle Frankenstein. There he falls in love with her and, with the help of his friend Charles Clerval (Anthony Higgins) and housekeeper Mrs. Baumann (Geraldine Page), educates her with the goal of making her a perfect human mate. Having survived, the monster wanders into the countryside where he makes friends with a circus dwarf, Rinaldo (David Rappaport) after he stops children from physically abusing him. As they learn more about each other, Rinaldo eventually gives the monster more humanity by gracing him with a name: Viktor ("he will win"). The men travel by foot through Europe, eventually arriving in Budapest, where they became involved with a circus owner named Magar (Alexei Sayle), who hires them despite his dislike of Rinaldo. Meanwhile, as Eva acquires language and develops furtive cognizance, she begins to question her origin and, while visiting a weakened mausoleum with Baron Charles, tells him that she wishes to "go home". The Baron has Eva accompany him to a formal party held by the Countess (Veruschka von Lehndorff), where he introduces her. Eva is initially well-spoken and formal, impressing the Countess, Captain Josef Schoden (Cary Elwes), and other guests, but becomes agitated when a cat enters the room. Having no knowledge of the animal, Eva begins to scream at it, embarrassing the Baron. Several days later, while riding her horse near the castle, Eva is come near by Josef, who attempts to romance her. Josef informs Eva that the Baron was thrown out of the university while studying medicine. She eventually begins to question the Baron and his intentions. Meanwhile, during a trapeze performance with the circus, Rinaldo is injured in a deadly fall. Viktor is immediately heartbroken at the loss of his friend, a feeling that Eva apparently feels. Hinting the two share a type a psychic connection, as Viktor mourns, Eva suddenly feels a great sense of loss and cries in her room. Viktor learns the circus performer Bela (Phil Daniels) deliberately tampered with Rinaldo's harness, causing the fall, he becomes deadly angry, flipping Magar's caravan over before murdering Bela. The next morning, Viktor returns to the castle and finds Eva outside on the grounds. However, Eva mistakes him for a vagrant and does not recognize him. A mob from the circus later arrives in the village in search of Viktor, and shackle him to a wall. Meanwhile, Eva disappears from Castle Frankenstein. The Baron inquires of her whereabouts, and Mrs. Baumann reluctantly reveals that she has runaway with Josef. Soon after, the Baron locates the two lovers. Much to Eva's shock, Josef reveals he doesn't care much or ever about Eva and walks away from her not looking back. The Baron drags an extremely defiant Eva back to Castle Frankenstein. During an argument, the Baron finally reveals to Eva how he created her, using part of corpses, and bringing her to life via an electric charge. This information humiliates Eva. The Baron states he's glad the monster is dead because giving her to him would have been a waste. His possessive nature shows as he demands he will take Eva as his bride, whether she consents or not. Though Eva tries to keep him away from her, she's virtually trapped and feels powerless. Viktor eventually senses her extreme fear and desperation. He breaks free from his shackles and escapes by horse to Castle Frankenstein. Back at the castle the Baron fights Eva, a fight she loses. Before the Baron can force himself on Eva, Viktor confronts him. A fight ensues, and Viktor is chased to the top of the laboratory, where he throws the Baron to his death. In the castle, Viktor returns to a sleeping Eva, and when she awakens, he turns to leave. Eva asks him never to leave and he introduces himself to her with his name. She tells him the meaning of his name, which pleases him. She asks if he knows who made him and he reveals that it was the Baron. Reunited, they begin moving away to Venice to carry out Rinaldo's dream.

The film takes place in 1964 and follows the life of Jimmy Cooper (Phil Daniels), a young London Mod. Disillusioned by his parents and a dull job as a post room boy in an advertising firm, Jimmy finds an outlet for his teenage angst by taking amphetamines, partying, riding scooters and brawling with Rockers, accompanied by his Mod friends Dave (Mark Wingett), Chalky (Philip Davis) and Spider (Gary Shail). One of the Mods' rivals, the Rockers, is in real life Jimmy's childhood friend, Kevin Herriot (Ray Winstone). An attack by hostile Rockers on Spider leads to a retaliation attack on Kevin. Jimmy initially participates in the beating, but upon realising the victim is Kevin, he berates the other attackers but does not stop them, instead riding away on his scooter. A bank holiday weekend provides the excuse for the rivalry between Mods and Rockers to come to a head, as they both descend upon the seaside town of Brighton. Jimmy plans to be noticed as a 'face', and hints to Steph (Leslie Ash) -- a girl on whom he has a crush -- that he would like her to ride with him, but she confirms plans to ride instead with Pete (Garry Cooper), an older, well-heeled Mod. To prepare for the weekend, the friends attempt to buy some recreational drugs from London gangster Harry North (John Bindon), but are cheated with fake pills. After vandalizing the drug-dealer's car from retaliation, they desperately rob a pharmacy, finding a large quantity of their favorite "blues". After an early morning group ride from London to the south coast, the friends gather on the seafront, where Jimmy first sees a flamboyant scooter-riding Mod known as Ace Face (Sting). Later in a dance hall, Jimmy suggests that he will help Steph, whose escort is now chatting to an attractive American girl, to dance with Ace Face, whereupon Jimmy plots to gain attention by climbing up on the balcony-edge and dancing with much applause, annoying Ace Face. After diving into the audience, Jimmy is ejected by bouncers. Steph's escort leaves with the American girl, and once again Jimmy attempts to get with Steph, this time for the night, but she has arranged accommodation with a female friend. The friends spend the night sleeping rough, meet up at a cafe on the following morning, then proceed along the promenade, where a series of running battle ensue. As the police corner the rioters, Jimmy escapes down an alleyway with Steph, and they have sex. When the pair emerge, they find themselves in the middle of the melee just as police are detaining rioters. Jimmy is arrested and detained with a volatile Ace Face, and later fined the then-large sum of £50. When fined with a hefty £75, Ace Face mocks the magistrate by offering to pay on the spot with a cheque, impressing the fellow Mods. Back in London, Jimmy becomes severely depressed. His mother throws him out after she finds his stash of amphetamine pills. He then quits his job, spends his severance package on more pills, and finds out that Steph has become Dave's girlfriend. After briefly fighting with Dave, the following morning his rejection is confirmed by Steph, and his beloved Lambretta scooter is accidentally damaged in a crash involving a Royal Mail parcel van. Jimmy takes a train back to Brighton, taking increasing levels of pills and becoming emotionally unstable. In an attempt to relive the recent excitement, he revisits the scenes of the riots and his encounter with Steph. To his horror, Jimmy discovers that his idol, Ace Face, in real life has a menial job as a bellboy at the Grand Brighton Hotel. As a response, Jimmy steals Ace's Vespa scooter and heads out to Beachy Head, where he rides perilously close to the cliff edge. For a time, he appears to be having an enjoyable ride in the sunshine, but then he stops the scooter and glares miserably at the sea. Finally, he crashes the scooter over a cliff, which is where the film begins, with Jimmy walking back from the cliff top into the sunset backdrop.
