A former spy moves to Arizona to join a gold robbery, but when he gets there decides that it's not for him and tries to change his life. Having been a spy for Quantrill's raiders during the Civil War, Jeff Travis thinks he's a wanted man and flees to Prescott, Arizona where he runs into Jules Mourret, who knows of his past. He takes a job on the stage line from which Mourret is trying to steal gold. When Mourret's men kill a friend of his, he sets out to get Mourret and his men. Loumas, president of the Rock Island Trail company, tries to expand his rails into the Midwest but finds resistance of the steamship and stage-coach lines. The malicious Kirby Murrow tries everything to slow down Loumas' progress and doesn't even stop before sabotage. "Perfect Movie Fan" Joe Ruddy is brought to Hollywood as a publicity stunt and put in charge of a production company as a gag, but everybody isn't in on the gag, and Joe imports a notorious gangster, "Buggsy" Malone, to play "himself" in a film based on his life. "Buggsy" has gone straight, more or less, but retains some of his old habits to the extent of assuming control of the film, and the whole studio. His sister Molly comes along and falls in love with Joe. The head of the studio, R. B. A pair of hit songwriters fall in love with an ex-film star and her friend, but a blackmailer arrives to disrupt the romances. Based on William Field's short story "Temperamental Lady." Songwriter Danny (Pryor) believes that the only way to jump-start fading movie star Polly's (Bradley) career is to end his partnership with lyricist Mike (Newell). Polly's friend Mattie (Kelton) manages to comfort Mike in the interim. Then, Mike concocts a plan to separate Danny from Polly: he sends blonde seductress Blossom (Compton) to pretend to be Mike's girlfriend. But all ill feelings and misunderstandings are resolved by the climactic musical finale. —Anonymous
