The story of the film revolves around a guy who falls in love with his cousin`s best friend. He goes after his love to Punjab and is confronted by the girl`s brother who challenges the guy to farm and produce more seeds on the fields.

Jailer Vishwanath Pratap Singh slaps terrorist Dr. Michael Deng one day, not knowing that he has set the stage for a complete change of course in his life. Deng`s men kill his sons and daughter-in-law, leaving his wife muted by the shock of losing her sons. To avenge his loss, he puts together a lethal gang of three notorious prisoners on death row: Baiju Thakur (Jackie Shroff), Johnny/Gyneshwar (Anil Kapoor), and a former terrorist, Khairuddin Chishti (Naseeruddin Shah). Little does he know why these three agreed to join him!

Honest police officer Surajbhan would like Rajeshwar Nath to provide all the material documents that can prove Raiszada Narsingh is a hardcore criminal. When Raiszada learns of this through his henchman Hansukh he kills Surajbhan and frames Rajeshwar Nath for this killing. Raiszada would like Ajit to take revenge on Rajeshwar Nath whose name is now Girija Shankar and he does agree to do so because he believes that Girija Shankar is the killer of his father. On the way his vehicle breaks down and he meets with beautiful Bijli (Poonam Dhillon), and both fall in love with each other subsequently. Thakur Vijay Singh's men, especially Munim Banwarilal (Asrani), and Sardari (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) clash with Ram, and retreat, beaten, to their boss. Ram helps Gopi (Raj Kiran), who is dumb, and Sharda Devi (Swapna), and assists them in their life, and encourage to marry. Thakur Vijay Singh has his eye on Sharda, and has Ram killed by his men, and frames Gopi for the killing. Gopi is arrested by the police and is jailed. The only one who witnesses the killing is Ram's dog, Moti. Bijli also passes away, leaving her father (Satyen Kappo) distraught and close to insanity. A sincere police officer is killed by a liquor dealer. Years later, his twin sons set out to avenge their father's death. Inpsector John A. Mendez is an honest and diligent Police Inspector, who lives a middle-class lifestyle with his wife, Cheryl, and a maidservant, Fatimabi. John bursts a gang that makes illicit liquor and holds them in a cell, bringing him into confrontation with their leader, Gajanand alias Gajju, who goes to threaten John, but is himself arrested and sentenced. When he is discharged he decides to avenge his humiliation by entrapping John and killing him. Cheryl gives birth to twin sons and passes away. A rich childless couple, Brijmohan and Girja Gupta adopt one of the twins and name him Janardhan, while the second is named Jani and lives with Fatimabi. Twenty five years later, Janardhan is an American-returned young man, in love with Madhu. On his birthday party he comes face to face with a man named Gopaldas, and his entire personality changes as he is taken over by the vengeful spirit of John. Subsequently, Gopaldas is killed, and Janardhan is arrested and tried in Court. Things seem to go in Janardhan's favor, when the wily Gajju brings out a new witness - none other than Jani - who is now masquerading as John. Singer Chandermohan is born in a well-off family and is the only child. Since he is of marriageable age, both he and his parents want him to get married. But since he was born with a strong & adverse influence of Mars (Mangalik) during his birth his horoscope has not been compatible with any suitable woman. On his friend's Gafoor's, who has two wives, advice he re-locates to Bombay, sings at the Tejpal Auditorium, meets and falls in love with wealthy Asha, who lives with her widower dad, ironically named Colonel Mangal Singh and her paternal grandma. Mangal would like Asha to get married to an army officer. His attempts fail and Asha and his mom convince him to let Asha, who is also Manglik, get married to Chandermohan. He reluctantly falls in line with them, but then a series of events makes everyone change their mind about Chandermohan, namely a fake astrological chart that shows he is not Manglik, and his accusations about Mangal, who he alleges is leading a double life, romancing, wooing, and having a child with wealthy Nisha, Nirmala from Jeevan Saathi matrimonial bureau and Rina respectively, apart from being an alcoholic, robbing Chandermohan, stealing from his own house, and exhibiting goon-like behavior.
