Surinder Sahni (Shahrukh Khan) is a simple, happy-go-lucky man, working for Punjab Power. He meets a bubbly, attractive girl Taani (Anushka) who paints her own love story. Together they make a formidable pair, going through life as it comes-through hardships and pains, through sweet laughter and joy- until an unforeseen event changes how they both see life.

Om, an aspiring actor in the 1970s, falls in love with Shanti, whose tragic death leaves a lasting mark on him. Reincarnated in the present day, he is haunted by memories of his past life and sets out to uncover the truth behind her death while searching for his lost love.

It is a story of two couples, Dev and Ria, and Rishi and Maya. The marriage of both the couples is hanging on tenterhooks.
